I guess Dartmouth Game is now Postponed

I don't mind being the glass-half empty one. I actually think with a legit month to prepare and with a pretty healthy team, we'd have our best chance since 2011 to beat the Terps. As many on here know in that first game at College Park, Grant Enders was injured and we couldn't complete drives in the first half against the Terps, despite playing them about even. We fell apart in the second half in heavy rain and lost 28-3. We got smoked 63-17 the last time in 2017, as we played with Stover at quarterback after Mahalak suffered a concussion in the Morgan State opener. We made the playoffs in 2018 because we had a healthy Flacco and Shane Simpson. Flacco is gone, but Simpson will be healthy to start the season and with Jake Constantine at QB, we have a chance to be pretty good again. I thought we'd be really good last season and didn't forsee six ACL injuries to key players, including Simpson along with serious-to-nagging injuries to basically every transfer we brought in. Obviously, we needed more depth at running back, considering the odd redshirt of Kobe Young last season. He's back, we have the big Talley kid and Adrian Platt behind an experienced and huge line (hopefully with Darian Bryant at right tackle, Gilmore moved to right guard). We have other options as well. Constantine is the big x-factor because you are hoping he can do what Flacco did and that's find some chemistry with his receivers in about a month's time (I know Flacco had a little more than that). He's not going to run as much as Flacco, but I think our receiving corps with Jabari Allen back healthy, another year of Darian Street, Caleb Smith, Daniel Thompson and youngsters Charles Murphy and Ty Granger (both 6-1 and fast). I think the offense can be as strong as we've had since the T-West years. But it's always about the defense. We have a lot of talent but can they mesh in time? Is the scheme right for them? Can Ronald Johnson, Jesus Gibbs, Marcus Bowman, Quashon Alexander, Tibo Debaille and Ricky DeBerry stay healthy? What about the back end? Brandon Shuman is back for another year. Is Charles Peeples ready to take over at the other corner spot? What about new safety Keyvone Bruton from Temple? If he starts, what does that mean for Jamal Gay, Robert Topps and SJ Brown? A lot of questions on D as usual. I like our potential up front, but do we have enough to put consistent pressure on the QB in a 3-4 scheme and who will be the outside linebacker this season? That was a not a very productive spot last season. Will that be Ball State transfer Michael Robinson at 6-1, 220? The Maryland game is likely a moot point because that game is already listed as canceled on the schedule. I guess there's a slight shot of the Morgan State game to be played, if there is a season. But let's face it. If all these P5 conferences are playing conference-only, my guess is the CAA will follow. Maryland isn't going to be allowed to schedule another game, even if it's just "30 minutes" away. I'm quoting the article from SI and we know it's closer to an hour away. I guess at this point, we'll take eight games, assuming they can do this as safely as possible. In this state, hopefully by late September, the overall situation will be improved tremendously.

Are any of the CAA members in those states? We’re in pretty good shape in the Mid-Atlantic region. Looks like PAC-12 is sticking with conference only for fall sports.

Not saying this doesn't hurt, losing Maryland, but at some point, if a school like Ohio State doesn't feel like playing in the fall (likely due to a lot of positive tests), maybe just move all of FBS and FCS football to April (practice in March). Make spring football real football and start winter sports a bit earlier (in October). Just play conference games in the spring. Will obviously need at least a month of prep. We've cut enough male sports. I don't see that happening as we're at the minimum. Cutting another women's sport or two would not help Title IX guidelines. Yes, our level of football is not in the greatest shape, but I think the sport has to be played this year, whether it's fall, conference-only or the spring. It will be played.

    COVID 19 and NCAA Athletics

I'm not putting a percentage on it, but I'm a lot more optimistic for the winter and spring sports. Maryland is doing its job when it comes to the pandemic and the other states are experiencing what we went through in April and May. In another month or two, assuming they follow safety guidelines, those states should be closer to where we are (and Virginia and PA). Liability is the biggest issue and I guess fall sports may end up getting the short shrift just like spring sports did in 2020.

It was $325,000. I also think that people don't realize as much money as we'll be losing on the Maryland game or the ticket revenue, we'll also be saving on travel for fall sports (assuming conference-only) and nobody is traveling for recruiting over the summer. Whether it's basketball camps or looking at recruits on the West Coast or any other sport. I assume we'll be saving hundreds of thousands in that respect. If we are going to play conference-only, I do wish we would keep the Morgan State game. No reason why we can play that game on Sept. 12 right before the Stony Brook game. Or even play two weeks before just in case, you know, you get a few positive tests.

Doubt it considering Patriot League is probably not going to play. I would just be happy to get in 10 games
  12. Good game. Those missed FTs by Paul and they seemingly lost their legs at the end. Oh well. JB played about five minutes.
  13. Four's team with the big comeback with him as the bench cheerleader. JB's team getting outrebounded without him.
  14. Thornton looks good. So does Brandon Paul, Ethan Happ and Diamond Stone. JB has basically a screen setter and passer at this point of his career. He doesn't have the quickness or the lift needed for a four-man at the top level. I remember him in Summer League play a few years ago and he was basically doing the same thing. Setting screens and passing up shots.
  15. JB starts the second quarter. Gets an assist, gives up a layup on defense and misses a lefty layup on the other end. And he sits after just playing just 2:30.

Jones is 5-10, 200 from Walter Johnson HS in Bethesda. So he'll likely be 210-215 next season. Just not sure if there will be a HS season. Pretty sure it will be a lot safer in Maryland than most places though, assuming they have classes. He might not need it, but a lot of kids who are on the bubble do. https://www.hudl.com/profile/9672014/Aaron-Jones https://www.thesentinel.com/communities/montgomery/sports/walter-johnson-s-jones-overcomes-adversity-for-explosive-season/article_0216da64-8d4a-57e6-af3b-a9f14b28c67d.html
