    TOWSON 53, DREXEL 49 - CAA CHAMPIONS

Mayo got the Tournament MVP and Jeter was named to All-Tournament team. Mayo was great but Jeter, Murray and Holder were the difference. As good as Coach Rich is, she couldn't do much with last year's team. She added those three players, a 6-5 big in Camp, a 6-3 power forward in Flynn and a few others that didn't play much. Only holdovers that played from previous coaching staff were Durjan and Lee.

    TOWSON 53, DREXEL 49 - CAA CHAMPIONS

Yeah, Coach Rich went small late in the first half and that changed the game. She started small in 2nd half and then went back go Maia Lee at center when they went back to a big. But really, it's about talent and you'r best players make plays. Mayo at the line and Jeter with the big jumper to extend the lead. I was thinking that you have to take advantage of your situations. A loss here would be tough because who knows if we get back? JMU lost two key players and was shocked by Hofstra. Now we return just about everybody and should get a lot better.

    Turnovers

I assume you mean lax. They had 24 today and went 8 of 14 on clears. That should be the easiest thing and we've made it into the most difficult thing to do. I wonder if that has something to do with the new DC. Also shows that we still have a ways to go in terms of talent to reach those top 5 teams.
  4. https://towsontigers.com/news/2019/3/15/womens-basketball-towson-faces-drexel-in-caa-championship-saturday.aspx I'm chatting for this one and for men's lax. I don't care if nobody shows up. This is special as an alum who covered the team back in the day, broadcasted the games for four years in the late nineties on WTMD. Did a few games as a college student when they were decent with Tara Rotett, Amy Green and Danielle Barry. But lately they basically were the doormat of the CAA for about 15 of the last 20 years. I remember the Maryland win but not a lot of highlights. The scary thing is that this team should be better next season with Mayo, Jeter, Q. Murray, Holder, Camp, and Flynn back. Some guards coming in that can stroke it. Did we get a break when JMU lost? Of course, but took advantage by beating Delaware at Newark and crushing Hofstra. BTW, the game is not on regular CSN or NBC Sports Washington, it's on NBCSWA+. .

He’s versatile and athletic. Just coming off a subpar shooting year. He needs to go to a place where he can start. My guess is home at DePaul

    Last word from me

Everybody is entitled to their opinion. You can throw out every fact and number, ad naseum. We all know. But until the next recruit, I'm done talking about PS. I might be a homer but I'm not a sycophant. I don't think the recruiting is where it needs to be and that's why the staff is out there trying to recruit his ass off. I would like to see them utilize their athleticism and length more. Trap, pressure the basketball. Force turnovers. It's always been an issue over the last 25 years. I don't think he underachieved or achieved this year. The fact that he played that many close games with one of his worst teams says something. You may draw conclusions that it also says something because he can't finish those close games. HE can't finish those. You can be John Wooden and even he wasn't going to win all those close games with TJ Howard and Jakigh Dottin running the team and sure, one is really a two-guard and the other is a freshman who is maybe a backup. This is a results-oriented business. Ask Shaver, Ask Maurice Joseph. At some point, PS will be on the hotseat or his assistants will if they struggle as they did in conference play last year and this season. You can take away Year 1 but you can't take away last year's poor performance in conference play. That to me was his worst moment. But he also deserves credit for taking this shitty program out of the abyss. PK had this team at the bottom of the barrel. How far could that second year team gone? To the semifinals? To the finals? Bilal Dixon at center was a better option than TJ. Jerome Hairston was the best point guard we've had thus far despite all his issues. What about the year JD got shot? How far could that team have gone? I don't think any coach at Towson has ever dealt with this kind of shit from academic issues from a previous coach to having a key player shot late in the season to his top scorer leaving last summer. Nobody is perfect and PS certainly isn't. I just don't think everything sucks and we have no shot next season. Last season was doomed from the start when 0 left the program.

I noticed on their board they were looking at JT III as a possible replacement. If you want basically the same offense and a guy who played and coached in the Ivy League, he would be a pretty good replacement. Failed at Georgetown at least the last few years and had some really good early success. As for Pierce, I don't think he's much better than a very solid mid-major player. His three-point shooting (32.6%) and free throw shooting (59%) took a huge nosedive from last season when it was 42% 3pt and 79% FT. I would think he'd end up at an A-10 team or head to a school in Illinois where he's from.

Yes, he was a monster but remember he stood out against some terrible players. Worse than what we had this year. But sure, he was CAA POY twice for a reason. Burwell stood out as well and I thought he would be nearly as good as Benimon but he couldn't shoot consistently.

Saturday, March 16 Game 9: Game 7 Winner vs. Game 8 Winner // 1:00 p.m. (NBC Sports Philadelphia, NBC Sports Washington, SNY, College Sports Live) Let's do a chat tomorrow.

He will be a solid contributor. The question is whether he will be better than Sanders, who was a disappointment. He's a lot more skilled. He's 6-8, long, athletic and up to 225 and can shoot the three. How will he fit? Can he be a star? I don't think he'll be a star like another San Diego transfer (Pusica) but solid number two scorer in the 12 and 6 range. Also heard Timberlake put on 12 pounds so that's a plus. It's always tough judging these transfers who are sitting out. They basically are playing on the scout team and they are kind of cruising knowing they won't be playing. Want to see him with the starters next season.

A 43-17 halftime lead. No time to hold back. Mayo with 15 points. Jeter just five so they were all over her and Mayo stepped up along with Murray. Good to see Coach Rich use her bench and go deep.

15-0 run. Towson up 34-12. Mayo hit at least 4 straight 3-pointers. Now 36-12 after another layup by Jeter.

    Towson football report

I'll be honest, I have a lot of work to do editing late on a Friday night and the last thing I want to do is get 4-5 hours of sleep and watch football practice in cold weather at 8am for a free website with little interest. No offense to the people that are interested, but the lack of a spring game, no Flacco and with Miller playing with the second string has me in a meh mood. So getting there at 9am instead of 8 and watching 35 minutes on Saturday because they cut it short, has me wondering if it's even worth it. No spring game due to a very thin offensive line and weather issues (who would come out in the winter for a spring game). There are concerns but they have to be addressed in the summer. So seeing Miller and Vinnie Schaffer screams out one thing. Our potential starting nose guard has a knee injury. Can Gibbs play the spot? How is Tibo? Can Marcus Bowman and Bryce Carter play 3-4 ends? I think we have to add one more big body up front on the DL and at least two on the offensive line. Haven't talked to Rob yet so hopefully I'll get over there and get an interview. It's interesting and a bit worrisome seeing him on the sidelines as the OC and still trying to run practice. I know a lot of head coaches call plays so it's not unusual. Miller is the future. He's not there yet but I his leadership and accuracy is going to make him a premier qb. He can also move well, despite having that huge frame. Stover isn't bad and is becoming more adept at managing the game and making the short throws. It's not the worst thing for Flacco to sit out and let the younger guys run the team. The other thing that is distracting is the numbers that aren't right even though I was emailed the right roster. Kobe Young is 19 but we also have a huge WR, who is 19 I believe is the big kid is Daniel Thompson (6-3, 215), who was listed as 26. Another reason it's tough to cover the spring. But seriously like D'Argo Hunter and Ja'Len Elliott at WR. Not sure where they play after Leatherbury, Jabari Allen, and Brent Richardson. Sure, Richardson could lose time if he continues to struggle with drops. It's tough to judge the defense as they are once again adjusting to a new coach and scheme. And they are playing against a rebuilt offensive line with Cheripko at right tackle, Alex Desire at right guard and Brendan Cassells at center. I doubt that all three will start. Maybe Cheripko at right guard. Who knows. Flacco makes this team go. What they really need is to improve inside the 10-yard line. Better play-calling, better blocking and use a FB. Forgot to mention Chris Greaves and Pitt transfer Darian Street at WR. I like Greaves if he can stay healthy. I don't know we have a superstar in terms of NFL potential but Allen and Leatherbury are damn good. Offense should be similar to last season. But they must get better inside the 10 and well, defense is a major question mark. Too early to tell whether new DC is going to make a difference.

Yeah, the injuries I'm sure hurt them but kudos to Hofstra. Can't look past them.

    Towson football report

Football coaches are the most paranoid and secretive people on the planet. I think what they are doing is trying to limit the injuries, esp. on both lines where they are very thin. I know they will get after it in the summer because this was a pretty fast spring. They end tomorrow so I really won't have a chance to speak with RA for a while. Just frustrated on my part that I never really got much info, interviews or evaluation out of this spring.
