JMU Game Need TU Fans to show up!

After some of the complaints about SAFE after the last game, you are going to need to give them a long-sleeve T-shirt, a free coupon to some local establishment, a mouse pad or phone accessory, a chance to win a video game or something, five free I-Pads, another chance to win a Free big-screen TV, a free slice of a pizza with free drink, a free Hat to keep them warm and hot cocoa to keep them in the second half.

    TU-JMU tale of the tape

We're playing four corners lately- Vincent, Shuman, Gillette and McCants. Not really sure who the best is right now to cover Riley Stapleton (6-5, 230) but a great way to slow down a good passing offense is to get pressure. That is the key to the defense. Stapleton is huge, I wonder if you go with Vincent, who is more physical at 5-10, 205 or McCants. Shuman and Gillette are smallish corners.

Yes it would hurt if f we lose as well. But most non-Towson people feel we are in even with a loss.

Drayton Leads Balanced Towson Past Wesley

Drayton's game definitely came out of nowhere. He shoots it much better than Jordan (when he first started) but his defense is nowhere near as good. Now if he can come on and at least be adequate and continue to get better on offense, he might develop into a sixth-man type. Not a great ballhandler but it was nice to see him score off the dribble. When Jordan comes back likely in the Bahamas, I see Betrand as seeing very little minutes if any. He just doesn't show enough awareness when bringing up the ball and trying to dribble through the entire defense. Drayton may have moved past him after that performance and improvements in practice. Howard will be fine. He threw some nice outlet passes in transition. That's where he got most of his assists. He is a score-first lead guard but can also create for others. I'd like to see him set up guys more in the halfcourt, especially Fobbs. Now let's face it. This was a smallish D3 team (guards were pretty good) and everybody they could get their stats. Too much individual stuff but you can't beat good teams that way. It's an odd start to go from a huge, and very strong UVa top 5 team (ok, more like top 15 maybe) to a D3 squad. This was part of the Bahamas Trny so I guess we had no choice but to play them. I'd rather play a team like Mt. St. Mary's or Navy than a D3 squad before going to the Bahamas. Dottin is ok. Let's not give up on him after his second game. He has to realize he's a driver and a drive and dish guy. Set guys up. He's not a great athlete but he's very strong. Have to use that. Remember, just a freshman along with Betrand and Solomon. I don't think Yagi projects to do a lot this year because he has a long ways to go. Has to overcome the quickness part and adjust to all the athletes. That and the language barrier. Solomon can rebound. The defensive part is where he might struggle. He looked lost at times against Virginia, but they had some pros up front. He practically dominated the smaller Wesley team. Hopefully he improves. Sanders is a big guy that showed some good movement. Also seemed tired at times. Again, too much dribbling but like the way he runs the court. He really should be playing center with Tunstall at power forward but Dennis keeps getting nagging injuries. Now he has a hamstring injury that limited him in the second half as he didn't play at all. That's why you saw so much Solomon and Thomas played a ton. You need big Al against good big man but when you are going up against a small team, his minutes need to be limited. That wasn't his first dunk but he may have a handful in 3+ years. Timberlake has to use those hops. I like the fact that he's driving and he's very fast so get him out on the break. Don't just rely on that odd-looking jumper. But not sure about his defense yet. He got taken of the dribble several times today, which is not a good sign. That's why you want guys like Tunstall or Thomas back there to protect the young guys from freshman defensive mistakes. Sanders can also block shots (1.1bpg at Duquesne), though he hasn't shown it yet.

Gathagan will be on that. Tonight a Flacco feature at 10:30+ on Sports Unlimited. I'm sure there will be more media blitz on local TV this week. Let's face it, the Ravens are losing, Maryland, Navy and Morgan State are bad. It's time to take advantage of the only D1 team in the state who is probably going to postseason.

    Can’t let this happen

TOWSON 41, ELON 10 (story up)

He's holding the ball too long. Most of those sacks were because he's looking for the big play and trying to extend. They aren't letting him so instead of hitting guys for short passes, he's looking for the deep ball. I think he's frustrated because he's been just a tad off in his deeper stuff over the last few weeks but he needs to hit the shorter stuff. But the defenses are not letting him out of the pocket and let's face it, he's facing better competition and better D-lines. When you are up big, you need to need to also manage the game and not take sacks to take you out of field goal position. Have to sometimes throw it away or get rid of it quicker. Even though he's 24, he's still a young starter. Going into his 11th game.

    CAA honors?

Last game for the seniors next week means a bit. Kudos to Diondre Wallace, Chris Tedder, Zain Harps-Upshur, Niquekko Cook, Monty Fenner, Matt Kauffman, Zane Ventemigilia, Joe Green, Sam Gallahan, Zach Herron, Pat Toomey, Ellis Knudson and Grant Udinski along with others. Flacco first team QB. Shane Simpson KR. Shane Leatherbury first or second team WR with nearly 800 yards, 5 TDs. Jabari Allen now over 40 catches over 535 yards in receiving. Maybe 3rd team. OL? Both tackles maybe on 2nd or third team? Andrew Garnett or Matt Kauffman. Robert Heyward with 13 tackles today means he now has 78 with 9 TFLs and 1.5 sacks and 4 pass breakups with two forced fumbles. Diondre Wallace with 77 tackles, one sack, 4 TFls, one INT, 2 forced fumbles. Keon Paye with 62 tackles, 4.5 TFLs, 2 picks, one forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery. All three deserve consideration. Monty Fenner with 54 tackles, 1.5 TFL, 1 pick, 8 pass breakups. NT Zain Harps-Upshur with 30 tackles, 2.5 sacks,4 TFL, 4 QBH. DE Bryce Carter with 44 tackles, 11.5 TFL, 4.5 sacks. Also could be considered. Aidan O'Neill as well for kicker. I know the run defense still isn't great (151.ypg) coming into this game and we allowed 208 but it's been much improved with Harps-Upshur returning from injury and the improvement of Carter and addition of Ricky Deberry at DE.

    CAA honors?

Agree that Fenner hasn't been great. Might get a nod based on reputation.
