TOWSON 41, ELON 10 (story up)

It's an AP Story. I wrote for them many years ago. That's an embarrassment. They called Elon, "Elson". I didn't realize Dan Crowley also kicked FGs for the team in 2016. That's on the writer because the editorial desk had no clue about players on Towson but no excuse for putting TOWNson in the headline or for Elson.

One of the worst written articles about the football program ever. Count the mistakes https://www.sunherald.com/sports/article221481310.html

The forecast for Orono is 34 degrees and snowing next Saturday. I highly doubt Elon wins that game. They have a great win over JMU but that was with Cheek and Summers. They are a different team now. Assuming they lose, they shouldn't get in just because they didn't get to play W&M. Sucks to lose your top running back and quarterback. Wouldn't know how that feels (oh yeah, like last season).

I doubt it but we'll never know. I don't remember what the Towson students were like at the Baltimore Arena I believe in 1994 but damn sure I rooted for the Tigers as a former Md fan.

https://www.collegesportsmadness.com/fcs-football/bracketology https://www.dratings.com/predictor/ncaa-football-predictions/fcs-playoff-projections/ Just need to beat JMU. Have to play our best game of the season. Even better than Stony Brook. Not going to be satisfied with just making it.

Also forgot to add that we did great on third downs this week on defense. Held them to 4-of-14 and had those two huge fourth down stops in Towson territory. Have to bring that D next week.

Have to give it up to the Robert Heyward today. Had 13 tackles, 1 sacks and 3.5 TFLs. Potential Defensive POW. Didn't think Diondre Wallaace had a great game with six tackles because he missed a few. But Heyward, Wallace and Paye should get considering for all-CAA. Thought Deberry was very active today even if he only had two tackles but Bryce Carter is also playing well. Had 4 tackles and one sack. Grant Udinski with another sack and a forced fumble. Tedder also had a forced fumble though I believe on the kickoff return. The corners played ok today though you would still like to see them turn around with the ball int he air. There were not many open receivers and there have been plenty in most games this season. They didn't throw a lot but when they did, the coverage was solid. We've been on the defense most of the year but you have to give them kudos for holding Elon to 10 points at home. They put up 319 rushing yards against a decent URI team last week. Sure, if Cheek played, it would be a different story but if Mahalak played the last two seasons....

I hope so. The resume' is pretty damn good and both losses were in the last second. If BR catches that pass at the Delaware game, we might be undefeated in the league because we're showing up for that Maine game in the first half.

One thing we don't think about is the human element in this whole situation. While everybody is calling for RA's job after last week, he got this team back on track. Maybe he didn't do a good enough job getting them up after the Delaware loss but last week was another devastating last minute defeat. I don't recall ever witnessing those two type of losses in back-to-back weeks since I've covered the program. And we came back to kick ass today. Ambrose was on the post game and practically in tears. Knew that game meant everything to the program, to the team and to the coaches. Maybe that means postseason. But all you can ask is that they can play meaningful games in November in most years. We're going to have that next week and probably next season, assuming most key guys return.

Stony Brook just took a 17-3 lead. So it's not looking good for the Hens.

TOWSON 41, ELON 10 (story up)

Probably not. I don't know. That win today was so impressive on the scoreboard, how could they not put us in the playoffs with one of the better QBs in FCS? I guess the point is that they would put Delaware in over us because they beat us. But then the Stony Brook win would look as good.

TOWSON 41, ELON 10 (story up)

We definitely got some breaks today but even though the offense stumbled at times inside the 35 and Flacco took too many sacks, we moved the ball at will. Had 486 yards against one of the best defenses in the CAA. Flacco threw for 326 yards with three TDs and a pick. You have to give it to these kids. Most of us had the dead and buried though I thought we had a better chance in this game due to their quarterback situation. Greene was terrible today at 5-for-19 for 30 yards and while he did run for 73 yards, we held freshman sensation Jaylen Thomas to just 73 yards on 15 carries. He had over 200 last week. So the run defense was absolutely key. It was a dominant performance even though it didn't seem like it until we scored two late rushing TDs and no, we didn't rub it in but just ran the ball and hell, we might need that 41-10 win if we lose next week. Is that going to be enough to get by. Logically yes, when you beat the No. 5/7 team on the road but we are Towson so...

Because Maryland is not the same as North Carolina or Duke. Roy can afford a few bad losses here and there because his teams almost always compete for titles. Turgeon can't so he's scared to play a D-1 team on the road. We should have beaten them a few years ago in College Park.

They have to continue to recruit for 2019 because you just never know who’s going to transfer.

  18. https://towsontigers.com/news/2018/11/6/mens-basketball-positives-highlight-towson-setback-to-no-5-virginia.aspx Ty Jerome scored 20 points on 6-of-9 from 3-point range to lead Virginia over Towson, 73-42 on opening night for both teams. The Tigers were led by juniors T.J. Howard (10pts) and Brian Fobbs (9pts). Towson was outrebounded, 35-32 and shot just 31.7 percent from the floor. The Tigers committed 14 turnovers, while forcing just five. Remarkably, the Tigers were credited with zero assists. They hurt themselves from the line, making just 12 of 27. Senior guard Jordan McNeill, the Tigers leading returning scorer, was out with an injured hand. https://www.foxsports.com/college-basketball/story/jerome-s-20-points-lead-no-5-virginia-past-towson-73-42-110618?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter https://virginiasports.com/sidearmstats/mbball/team-stats;period=F Here are some comments from head coach Pat Skerry on post game. "Virginia could win the national championship. They are that good. I didn't like the last 10 minutes. They made shots. Jerome hurt us. "We hurt ourselves from the foul line. If you are 22 of 27 (instead of 12 of 27) maybe it's a 9-10 point game. I thought Timberlake was hit on pullup that turned out to be a five-point swing. We are a work in progress It's Game 1, as John Calipari said, there's winning and there's learning. We need everybody back healthy. We can be a pretty good team later in the year. Timberlake is going to be a really good player. We're excited about a lot of our freshman. We didn't come here to lose by 9. We'll benefit from this. They wore us down at the end. All the credit to them. We have things to build off There's some things that I'm encouraged about. We got to the line and to the rim. We didn't finish, Tunstall (hamstring) wasn't supposed to play but grinded it out. He's going to have a good year. As soon as he gets healthy, he'll be good."
  19. Too early to tell about the extra pass but they were making that in the scrimmage. Last night, they took away most of the passing lanes and we basically just attacked the basket.
  20. I’m just pointing out that while people say we have no shooters and I pull out juco free throw numbers and we still suck. I give up. Watch the team and hope they improve. Bottom line is that those juco kids are the best shooters on the team. The freshmen have a lot of work to do in terms of shooting. I understand the criticisms in terms of recruiting freshmen shooters and they are valid. The good news is that they already appear better than last years dismal class. Just look at Drayton not even playing until garbage time.
