Some guys will likely change positions.

    Martin, Gorham get their release

My final thought on this is that it's time to move on. I hope for their sake, they learn from their sit-out year about improving their weakness and for both it's defense. For Zane, it's not worrying about stats as much and becoming selective and efficient as an offensive player.

Yes, they did. I forgot about that. For some reason, ESPN had their last at 2010.

Why would it be worse than last year? We had no healthy running backs save for two true freshmen and a backup quarterback that wasn't ready to play. Still finished 5-6. Beat Delaware. We lost at Elon in OT. Lost to supposedly great Stony Brook by 8 on the road. Not saying we were good but we're not that far away if we can find a decent qb from 3 new players and keep Shane Simpson healthy.

Exposure yes but do you really think they risked losing playing time to possibly get to the NCAA Tournament? New Mexico's last NCAA Tournament appearance was 2012 (it will be 7 years) and Houston was 2010. Used to be big programs but not a lot of production lately. I think this was all about trying to prove they can play at a higher (slightly) level and show scouts that they can play pro. Justin may have other reasons. I like Justin's game more than Zane and I think we could miss him more. But I do like the kids we brought in. Unfortunately you can't win at this level relying on too many freshmen. That's why you have to hope that the Jucos and Sanders can come through.

I do understand the pessimism when it comes to the transfers. But I think the issues center around the quarterback position. That's why I'm not predicting playoffs because I have no clue whether any of these three new qbs can play at the FCS level. But the good thing is that we have three so hopefully at least one pans out. I think Mahalak would have been a pretty good quarterback had he stayed healthy. I can't blame them for bringing him in. But Brennan, Peterson, Chris Hart, etc. were disasters. I think we had some pretty good pickups last season. Leatherbury, Greenwood, Ventemiglia. Unfortunately, there we also misses on OT D'Mitri Francis, TE Metise Moore (not listed on roster), and the two grad transfers in CJ Williams and Tsimis (both hurt). Also added Troy Vincent Jr. and DE John Lambert who both sat out.
  10. Not joking. Just what you guys feel this athletic department needs to do to take the next step, whether it's marketing, fundraising, facilities, parking, on the field, off the field, personnel, etc. Just curious what you guys think are the biggest needs for improvement right now, on a summer day with no sports going on.

Gotta love this article. Can you catch the two glaring mistakes in this? https://www.kob.com/sports/unm-in-the-mix-for-potential-point-guard-addition/4978680/?cat=500&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Kobcom-Home+(KOB.com+-+Top+Stories)

Yup, it's interesting how he ended up there instead of other more high major programs. I could say good riddance but it's interesting how he and JG got as far away from the East Coast. Maybe that's the best thing for them.

Oh yeah, forgot about Mark Shetletski, from Urbana, who was supposed to go to Charlotte. Good size at 6-4, 300. Not sure if he ever got to the school, redshirted or went prep. I believe he's a guard so not sure if he's technically a transfer. Or if he's going to compete for a rotation spot on the line. But he was an FBS commit so must have some talent.

If everything was perfect. he wouldn't be coming here. Like I said, massive talent. . I'm sure if you look into every player who is transferring in, there's something up.

I believe Clark has two years. I don't get the pessimism on every pick up. So Mahalak was hurt for two years? What does that have to do with a guy who comes from Pitt and was recruited by UCLA? I don't guarantee anything when it comes to transfers. They transfer for a reason and they are 50-50 but we have not had a lot of guys that at 6-6, 265 and can run as a 4* athlete. I think James Oboh was a two* coming from FAU and turned out pretty well. This kid has all the tools and has played some at Pitt. Had 16 catches for 122 yards with a TD last year, so he has some experience. We also added two pretty good corners. We might be able to move Troy Vincent Jr. to safety or play all three. Still need a pass rusher, maybe one more interior offensive lineman and of course, another back.

I really like the additions of Shuman, Gillette, Rose and Flacco. But the key guy could be Chris Clark. If this kid lives up to his size and potential, we have something we've never really had and that's a complete tight end. I mean a stud one and we have a pretty good young one in Myles Wright. From UCLA to Pitt. One of top tight ends to come out of HS in the country in 2015. Had to step away due to some issues last year. https://247sports.com/Player/Chris-Clark-16169/high-school-53992 http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/Pitt/2017/03/24/Expected-to-take-over-at-tight-end-Chris-Clark-finally-settles-in-at-Pitt/stories/201703240094

He's fun to watch. I almost think if he doesn't win the starting job, you need to get him on the field either at RB/WR/PR. Flacco isn't slow so at least we have to very athletic options to go with Miller and Stover.

I know we added two kickers, a couple of preferred walk-ons and late additions ot freshman list. Also a transfer WR Ja'Len Elliott from Waldorf. I mentioned him in the spring as #82 and he looked pretty good. Has good size (6-2, 182) and speed. 4.41. https://www.hudl.com/profile/4201934/JALEN-ELLIOTT

Another big pickup at cornerback is Brandon Shuman from Purdue and played HS ball in Miami-Fla. He's 5-11 ,180 and a 3* guy. https://purduesports.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=1013 I believe he has two years left. Was a track guy in HS who supposedly ran a 4.38 40.

As mentioned, Daniel Rose is a newcomer and a quarterback, like fighting for the starting job with Stover and Flacco. Love his athletic ability, though strange delivery. Terrill Gillette is a needed-cornerback at 5-10, 185-pounder from Philly, who played juco ball in California.
