    NBA draft combine invites

Yup. No surprise. It's a catch-22 but now guys will say, well, if I want to get to the combine, I have to go to a big-time school. But I believe Benimon was at the combine. You have to prove you deserve it, not just put up 20ppg.
  2. Avg. 13 points and 8.5 rebounds last season at 6-8, 237.

    Isabell leaving Drexel

I didn't want to flood Yagi's thread with transfer crap. Drexel guard Tramaine Isabell told ESPN that he's transfering again. This dude just left Missouri for Drexel, sat out and averaged 21ppg, 7.5rpg and 3.4 assists. From what I heard, he wasn't getting along with a certain player though maybe it's something else.

Yeah, I guess Pusica will be the top guy returning and let's face it, he really is the league's best player.

I assume Yagi might be more of a Enes Kanter fan based on talent though maybe not considering the political hotwater he's been in. Just wish all the newcomers luck and sure, kids are leaving early all the time. Even if they are not ready for the NBA, I can't admonish a kid for wanting to better his situation by making money overseas playing hoops. I would have loved to have the talent to have that opportunity. But there's also nothing wrong with staying four years, having fun and getting a good education while travelling the country and sometimes out of the country. As mentioned previously, the grass is not always greener. In fact, it usually is not unless you are a Gary Neal or Jerrelle Benimon-type of talent.

BTW, how the hell did this thread about the commit of Yagi turn into the talk of Zane and Justin potentially leaving the program and of course, 2012 knowing that it would happen because we're all naive. There have been hundreds of unhappy players over the years throughout the nation and many that have left here. They just happen to stick out for a reason because they were productive. Sorry if I'm glass half full too often, but maybe this will be a good thing at least in the near future. But I guarantee they won't be the last to go. I'll now be immune to the ones I assume would leave like Prophete and the ones who are looking to further their career elsewhere.

The techs are on him. He's the best player on the team and maybe he couldn't handle it as a sophomore. Leaders don't act like that and I guess he wasn't a leader. If you want to blame it on Skerry, fine. Blame it all on Skerry. Maybe they shouldn't have gone to N. Ireland and Florida within two weeks. And then Canada over the summer. Maybe they shouldn't have won 10 games against mediocre competition. Their heads got too big? It's certainly disconcerting here and all over the country.

I have no problem with athletes getting some stipend or getting paid for ads or whatever, if teams are using their likeness to promote school events That wouldn't really happen at this level. Even getting a $2,000 stipend for the year is tough for us to afford because every scholarship athlete has to get paid. When the P5 separates from the NCAA, they'll probably start with stipends for all athletes and go from there.

Huh? First, you said you assumed Gorham would leave because he had a frown on his face all year and now Zane? Nobody was living under a rock and sure, the season sucked. Nobody was happy the way it ended and though you'd think he was to stuff stats. He basically took every shot on offense or maybe he was upset that Pat forced him to play defense or occasionally pass the ball. The one player who was allowed to make mistakes and wasn't given a short leash was Zane. That's also a bit of a stretch as far as the leash goes. I think that leash was longer with this team because they made so many mistakes. Hell, on net year's team, everybody is so new, there might not be much of a leash. But you also can't let a player make mistake-after-mistake without replacing him.

Great post and while winning does cure some things, it doesn’t cure everything. Some coaches are trying to win while doing things the right way while others are PK. Not saying PS is a perfect coach but there’s more to this story that I can share that will make some sense. Look at what Nadelen is doing with Mazza. Some coaches would have lifted that suspension just to win. He won’t. Not saying this is a similar situation but winning isn’t the only thing. You also go to school to learn about life, not just how to win in sports.
  12. Matt Sovero's goal in overtime gave Towson the 9-8 win over Delaware tonight to send them to the CAA Finals to face #1 seed UMass on Saturday at 1pm (Lax Sports Network). The Tigers blew a four-goal lead in the fourth quarter with the Blue Hens scoring four straight, including two on extra-man goals. Chad Patterson also threw a misguided pass on a clear that the Hens took advantage of with Shane Brennan out of the night. After all that, the Tigers found a way to win in OT despite Alex Woodall not winning the face-of (Shawn Nadelen said his stick was being held after the game). But Sovero found a way with his first goal of the game to give the Tigers the sudden death winner. I'll be blogging and chatting on Saturday for those interested.

Zane is in complete denial if he thinks that we are holding him back by letting him take every shot. Now not having a solid point guard put more pressure on him to become more of a combo guard. So if we improve in that spot, it takes more pressure off of him. But if he wants to go and takes care of things then bye. Writing is now on wall for Gorham.

Kind of ridiculous to compare Yagi to Alex Gavrilovic just because both are Euros. Alex was a grad student who never played a lot at Dayton and struggled with nagging injuries in 2014-15. Certainly not the toughest player physically even though he was 6-9, 245. Was kind of allergic to the paint. This kid looks like he wants to bang some. Let's give him a chance first and it's actually nice to have a skilled frontcourt player for a change instead of a guy who is just going to rebound and/or defend. I do think we're underrating Sanders as well. He's improved in his sit-out season. Nothing against Alex Thomas or Tunstall, but he's not a role player. Losing Gorham is not a good thing but life moves on and you have to adapt.

Towson heading back to CAA Finals

Thought you were a Flyers fan. Had to watch LSN on my big laptop, while Caps/Pens was on regular TV. Figured Caps would do nothing on offense so I didn't miss much.

Towson heading back to CAA Finals

UMass beat Hofstra in the first game 10-6. Deluca was unreal in net this game. He made 14 saves, while Brennan made nine. But Brennan had a couple he probably should have saved tonight on long shots. Should have won this game going away with 10 turnovers and with Woodall winning 16 of 21 face-offs. Two bad penalties in the fourth quarter allowed the Blue Hens to come back. Great game by Brendan Sunday with three goals, while Johnny G. had three assists. Grant Maloof also added two goals. I think Maloof should have two more years left even though he's listed as a junior because he was injured last season. Same with Sunday, who they moved from the crease attack and let him roam on offense. He's much better when he's dodging where he can let loose his long arms. Also great game from junior middie Jimmie Wilkerson with three ground balls. I think we can win Sunday though it's going to be tough. Woodall is going to have to win at least 50% against one of the best face-off guys in the country and then Brennan has to be better in the cage. Offense was dreadful last time we played them (8-4 loss), but their goalie is not Deluca. Do think the future is bright if Mazza comes back next season and we add some offensive punch. Desperately need more athletes on midfield on offense who can create and dodge.

From what I hear, he was recruited by Detroit, before they had a coaching change. So that's a pretty strong mid-major. Also Northeastern, American, Montana, Richmond, Loyola-Marymount. Was expected to visit Montana before committing. Sounds like a smart kid, who can use both hands. Possibly play some center as well. Good passer. Good skill. Average athlete. But with Tunstall, Sanders, and Solomon can make that up. Nothing wrong with a skilled big man.

He does resemble a typical W&M player in that he's fairly big, somewhat athletic and should become more of a shooter from deep as he gets older.

Yeah, would like to see his three-point shooting numbers. Most of his post moves quite honestly would get blocked in college unless he takes on smaller fours. His face-up game looks a little raw. Looks like he couldn't shoot threes as a junior but not sure of his senior stats. Good news is that he can get better. Look at the kid from Drexel, Demir. He's a juco transfer so maybe that's a bad comparison but could have a similar game. About same size though he's a little bigger. http://www.drexeldragons.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5809&path=mbball

Look at it this way. Is it out of desperation? Sort of, but it looks like the young man can play. Has a decent shot and floater with some post moves. Can he defend more athletic fours at this level? Can he play inside against guys like Knight and Cacok? Can he be a rotation player right away? Will likely compete with Solomon O. for the starting or backup power forward spot or we could go with Sanders and Thomas or Sanders and Tunstall up front with Fobbs, Betrand and T.J. Obviously, we desperately need a 2-guard to replace Zane, assuming he's gone. Still not 100% sure both are gone but we can't wait forever. But likely will know more in next couple of weeks if JG and ZM are gone. There are other options as well if Timberlake doesn't commit. The good news is that at least we have more options at the post this season. Bad news is that Gorham could have been a 16/8 guy next to Sanders, who could be at least a 12/8 guy.
