MBB picked fourth in the CAA by Lindy's

    Athlon's has: 1)CofC 2)Towson 3)Elon 4)UNCW 5)Hofstra 6)NE Morsell second team All-CAA in both mags.
  2. I picked up the first college hoops mag and it has us fourth. That's about right I guess with four returning starters but two of the top three scorers gone (JD, Moto). Terrible write-up though has Morman and as nice one-two punch at the point? Also has Morman as a sophomore in write up but a senior below. Interesting stat has Morsell at 51.7 percent inside the arc should maybe show he should not settle for as many threes. The top three from Lindy's are Charleston, UNCW and Elon.

St. Francis Red Flash Game Notes

That's a very big team on both lines. If we don't get more aggressive in our defensive scheme, we will lose and lose big. We can't just sit back and rush four and expect to get pressure against a huge Oline like that. We can't play soft Cover 2 or play bend but not break defense and beat anybody from now on. It's time to play aggressive football. Bleep or get off the pot. Tired of this preseason talk about being the aggressor on D. Stop talking and start playing. And tackle.

    Quotes from MD game

Ryan Stover Watched a lot of film. We got them out of the man with some play-action. Did well up front with their pressure. We came out pretty slow but I think in the 2nd or 3rd drive we were cool. They were doing some stuff up front, they would trick offensive lines. We were changing protections. We moved the ball pretty well on some long drives. When you're in a hole like that, to get on the board, it was a fairly long drive, to put that together it got the whole team going at least for the first half. Monty Fenner We missed too many tackles throughout the game. We need to wrap up. They were bigger. We just have to make the play. They were scoring on arm tackles. Stover on missed TD to Joe Green I just felt it was coming in around me. The last second he was running wide open. I thought he was going to sit. Just missed communication on our part. Rob on Stover (We knew he would start by)Thursday and we figured that we couldn't get Morgan ready to play. He didn't play badly. It's tough for a redshirt freshman to make his first start against a team that will probably ranked in the top 25 very soon. He's a heady kid and did some really good stuff today. He also did some bonehead stuff. You guys covered us last year...I'm feeling a bit better. On Stover's pick six For us to beat them or any BCS money five school, we are going to need to play damn-near perfect. We did stuff that Texas couldn't do and Texas has 50 billion dollars and we have 15 cents. But we're going to be alright. I have to get these guys healthy. When you take offensive guys that are working very hard, they are not built to tackle DBs. Ryan knew he screwed up. On freshmen I know our guys. I know how good they can be as individuals and groups. But what I know about them doesn't mean squat until they believe it themselves. Their confidence level is going to go up as soon as they watch film. On running game They are better than we are. For us to be successful. I have five offensive linemen that are good enough to compete against them. They have 13 defensive linemen that are better than us. So we're going to struggle unless we are perfect. We ran with some authority and tempo against a real good football team. I'm not all banged up about that. We gave up over 300 yards rushing. We have guys wrapped up and don't finish the play. When everything is right and people are in the right spot and still don't make the plays, that annoys the hell out of me. That's how you grow and learn. Everybody is so afraid to make a mistake and then won't admit it. The offense is growing, learning from adversity. On offense It's really hard to do when pieces start breaking and you don't have a rhythm yet. Losing Morgan (Mahalak) took us out of our rhythm completely. We had a nice gameplan and Shane Leatherbury had a lot do with it. He was gone and it's not like I have three of those. The true freshmen did great but also did some dumb stuff. He'll be 10 times the players he was next week. I just don't have enough of them. Need to get them healthy. We made plays on the ball when it was in the air this week. Didn't last week. Imagine what you will do when we get in the league if we can do that against Maryland. Pat Toomey did a much better job this week. Our offensive line couldn't block last week against Morgan State and they showed some improvement this week. We're not where we need to be... There are some dudes on that team. They are exceptional players. I live in the state of Maryland. For one day of the year, I don't like them very much. After this game is over, I'm thrilled to death that is the team that represents the state of Maryland extremely well. They are going to get better, we're going to get better.

    Watching the first half....

So many missed tackles. I get a guy like Diondre Wallace missing tackles on Tye Johnson or Turner. Though that's not excusable. He's just not in the same zipcode when it comes to speed. But a guy like Mitch Boals runs a 4.4 or something to that effect and he's just not getting off blocks and missing tackles. A safety has to show a lot more toughness. Not sure Scroggins is ready for more time yet and at this point, they might as well redshirt Tippett. Don't want to just mention Boles or Wallace, the entire secondary struggled to tackle and the LBs. Also, one tackle from Bryce Carter and no tackles from Malik Tyne. Have to get more from OLBs/Rush ends. D.J. Moore is 5-11, 215. That's pretty big for a receiver but you would have thought he was Calvin Johnson against our team. Again, when you compare him to Greenwood, physically they are just so different. Same with Leatherbury (5-10, 165) and Jabari Allen (6-3, 180). All thin. That's why I'd like to see Richardson (6-1, 210) to work underneath more because he's physical. Also just obvious that when we play new guys or even transfers like Greenwood or Leatherbury, if they haven't been through the strength program, they look tiny compared to Maryland's players. They'll be bigger next season, but that's not helping us now. Watching that goal line stand in the second quarter was impressive. Nice seeing Christian Johnson finally make plays. Love seeing Tibo D. getting some time in the 2nd quarter and again, another true freshman playing. Also nice to see J. Veii get shut down. I think Lyrics covered him the whole way. One thing that is a bit obvious is that JPD, though doing the best he could against Moore, doesn't have the speed to be an elite corner. Just doesn't have that catchup speed. Five in the backfield. What a BS call on that long Dorsey reception. Stover also threw some nice deep balls. That one to Richardson down the sideline was inches away from being caught and they got the Terps for a PI. I've been saying Richardson should get the ball as a runner because he's like a RB. I'd rather him get the ball on those end arounds than Leatherbury. Watching that pick six from Stover, he just panicked on the blitz up the middle, Shane just missed a block and Stover under duresss, threw it up for grabs. Bad play. Sometimes, you just have to take the sack or try and avoid it. I think he'll learn from that. If we could just bottle the second quarter and throw away the first where Stover was nervous, we have something there. Of course, I haven't watched the third quarter yet. I taped the late replay and they edited out the first Md TD and the Towson drive late where we could have kicked a FG. Oh well. Still not as down as I'd thought I'd be but I'll watch 3rd quarter tomorrow or whatever they have on that replay.

    Watching the first half....

I don't get using Adrian Platt at 5-7, 185 pounds as your short yardage back. Bryant is 230 and even if he's basically a walk-on, there's no reason why not to use him on 3rd and 1. I guess they are just waiting for C.J. Williams to come back from injury and he's about 220. But it is what it is. They didn't have to use a big back when they had T-West and Vito. Now they have Shane and he's just not a pile mover. Not his fault at 200 or less. However, Maryland has a monster line and they used Lorenzo Harrison on Saturday at the goal line. Do you know how big he is? He's 5-8, 195 and he's more of a power back than Tye Johnson, who's about 210 at 5-10. So even Md OC Walt Bell uses a guy that he feels comfortable with, though he's nowhere close to being a big back.

MBB picked fourth in the CAA by Lindy's

It's not a big deal replacing points; it's a big deal trying to find a point guard again. Hopefully Prophete is the guy next season but I'm sure they are bringing in another point guard. Assuming Martin starts this season (he may not), we are going to need four new starters. I think Sanders starts in the middle with Gorham at the 4, Martin at the 2 and then who knows at the 3 and 1. It's way too early to think that next season is the one because we are adding five new players including Sanders, another point guard, another two (Bertrand), another big and and another wing. Ultimately, you need Prophete to step up and probably another guy like Drayton or Ingram. I think we add another transfer (maybe juco) to play right away.

MBB picked fourth in the CAA by Lindy's

Prophete is likely the backup point guard behind Starr. But I know they like Van Rolle, who played well in Canada. Have to see more of practice in October but that five-game stretch has to really help the freshmen get acclimated. I don't know if they are a year away because lose Morsell, Keith, Starr, and Morman. I do wish we had one more shooter and another big but I think top four is doable. Whether Zane can be the big-time scorer we've been missing is a big question.

    Glass half full?

Johnny Holiday is an institution and a great guy. That's one of the reasons he's lasted so long. Is he a good broadcaster or play-by-play guy anymore? Not really. He probably never was (still has the voice though) but he certainly slipped over the last decade. Most guys are homers that have been broadcasting one school for nearly 40 years. Not my style though if I was still doing play-by-play, I'm sure I'd be one and Spiro certainly has his homer moments. Both of us went to the school and Johnny probably feels like an alum.

    Tigers in the NFL/CFL/UFL thread

Good game for T-West against the Bengals with 80 yards on 19 carries and a TD in 20-0 win. Finally some decent Towson news outside red-hot volleyball team.

    Glass half full?

Top-tier 1-AA programs don't beat Morgan State 10-0 or go 4-7 the year before. We're just average and we're giving too much respect to every opponent we play by sitting back five yards off of receivers and never blitzing. We're sitting back and watching on D instead of attacking. I have some hopes about the offense this season and I think we have some potential on D. Good news is we won't have to face Moore and Johnson again. Bad news is that we won't have to face Morgan State's offense again.

Yup, I'm afraid of watching it again. Rob thought his kids would gain confidence from watching the film from all the good things they did yesterday. Maybe they can just edit out the 25-30 missed tackles.

    Glass half full?

That ship has sailed after 2014. We're not a top tier FCS program, not even close. I thought we'd be back in 2015 and were close to being that team until the Elon disaster. Last year was a huge setback but as we have seen, it's not just about Ellis making mistakes at qb. However, I don't think we can just throw out this season after a fast Maryland team put up 56 offensive points against us after nearly doing the same last week against Texas. That offense is freaking explosive and would do the same to most average to below average defenses in FBS and elite FCS programs.

    Glass half full?

We shouldn't be using St. Francis as a measuring stick but that's where we are as a program right now. We're playing some true freshmen not because we want to because we have to due to injuries. Platt shouldn't be playing this much and certainly not in short yardage (WTF?). But with C.J. Williams down, he's getting time. Same with Rodney Dorsey with Leatherbury hurt, he's got to be a rotation receiver. Same with Tsimis. I guess we should have known taking two grad transfers with injury histories in Tsimis and Williams, not to really depend on them. That's why Jabari Allen and Dorsey become such key players along with Greenwood and Kilgore. Add Stover, Carnesale, Rusolillo, Ventemiglia, and some new FBs and TEs and there are so many new parts on offense. I'm not down on the offense though the running game is definitely a concern. I think they'll figure that out. You're not going to run all over Maryland with Shane and Platt, two small backs with very few holes. Defense is the concern. Supposedly they are learning a new scheme but it seems like same old, same old crap to me.

    Glass half full?

Can't believe we're focusing on the running game, which should be fine if they start the right players up front. The focus should be on the defense, which was completely humiliated today. I didn't get why we didn't have 3 cornerbacks in almost every down against 4 wide receivers. We never blitzed a freshman qb, basically took no chances and still gave up big play after big play mainly on the ground. The tackling was pathetic, especially against D.J. Moore, who is a tremendous receiver. Give Md credit but I'm incredibly concerned about the defense and wondering what the **** we are doing in terms of scheme and recruiting.

I believe its on the non-HD channels which is 331-334 on Verizon. Should be streamed somewhere.
  22. Considered "very under the weather". Is this deja vu? Six years ago, Grant Enders didn't play against the Terps due to a migraine. Peter Athens started in a rain-soaked game and while he had several crucial drops, also struggled with turnovers in the second half in a 28-3 loss. That would mean r-freshman Ryan Stover could be starting.

Mahalak is "uncertain" for Md game

What football coach ever gives the truth about injuries unless they are season-ending? In college sports, you can be as vague as possible. Lacrosse is now doing it with upper and lower body injuries. I'm surprised that they even sent out a press release to mention he was out.
