For whoever it is we decide to go after, let's hope that the proper amount of funds are appropriated for it.  Our pool for assistant coaches isn't all that great and a lead guy may be pretty hesitant to come here if he can't pay his assistants the right amount, whatever that is.  Madam President is going to have to start caring about athletics enough to open up the purse strings if she doesn't want to be angry like the rest of us in future football seasons.

to give you a clue about how little she cares about athletics, Madame President did not even show up....or any of her staff.... at the Towson Hall of Fame Banquet. This honors the best of the best of Towson Athletic.......not even there!

Good for Skerry.  He's right.  We should invest heavily in hoops between TV rights, attendance, the $ associated with making the tournament, etc., this is the sport that needs to be prioritized within the university.  While it is probably not popular wihtin this board, I'd be fine with investing less in football & dropping baseball if it meant creating a sustainable hoops program.  I recall PK stating how underfunded the program was, making it nearly impossible for any coach to succeed.  I assume we invest more these days, but am not sure.  I think Skerry should have a ton of leverage- we were literally the worst D1 basketball program in the country for years (how many losing seasons in a row did we have?  shitty APR rates, scant attendance) and we ended the year close to top 50/60 in Net rankings.

Are you kidding....A coach who has won NOTHING....NOTHING, whining about not getting the respect he is due. Let him move on. I really have never gotten past the idea that Skerry gets a pass after failing every year in the tournament, which (and I know that most of you will disagree) is the only way Towson will get the "return on investment". Surprised his right arm does not hurt from patting himself on the back.

5 bucks seats now to the home opener. No reason to not get a good crowd!

The reason is the folks do not care. It has nothing to do with price. I do hope it changes....perhaps the new AD can make the magic happen. I do think with all the hype, these guys better produce or it really sets the program backwards.

I think he just wants the school to invest in the basketball program because yes, basketball can make more money than football and sure football is going to get more people because it's outdoors, tailgating, better weather, etc. Was hoping maybe we try something at the Towson Center before hoops games. Kind of a mini-tailgate. Kind of tough to to do that during mid-weeks games, but maybe just on weekends.

Do we think that winning the CAA Tournament is all of a sudden going to be a magic elixir for all the fans to come to SECU? I thought so 32 years ago and then 31 years ago and attendance didn't go up much despite winning two tournament titles and going to two straight NCAA trnys. Now there wasn't the internet, social media, etc. There's no excuse not to market the shit out of this basketball team and I think it's a solid move to shoot for the moon and try and get a sellout against Albany. It's not likely to happen so maybe we 3,500 instead of 2,000? Why could we not get 1,000 students in there or more? Let them see the banner ceremony. Maybe pick a few students and have them help raise the banner.

Whining from a coach who has won nothing in over a decade is incredible. Talk about ROI.....not Towson Hoops1

Pat Skerry is able to retain top talent which is worth its weight in gold in the transfer portal era we play in now. He’s got his guys loyal to him and that speaks volumes

Enough top talent to bomb out in the CAA tournament....for over a decade....the only real games that matter.....I know I will get bashed for saying that, but the truth is the truth....Winning in the regular season is feel good, but that and 10 cents gets you a cup of coffee.

3 playoff appearances, National runner up and 2CAA championships…..If you watched any of those games during the West era… you would have seen a physical team that was built to run the football.

OK....not sure what point you are making. and btw, I watched all of those games. Some times recruits work out...sometimes they don't....sometimes transfers work out sometimes they don't.....the world of recruiting

RA needs to go but I also have a lack of confidence in the administration and athletic department to make a good choice for a replacement.  Football has to be important to the President and she needs to get into the issue or really nothing is going to change.  You can get lucky because someone named West is sitting at the locked front gate pleading to try out.  But that is about it.  What would be RA's legacy if West never happened?

Your question is totally irrelevant. What would Indiana State's legacy be if they did not have Larry Bird transfer from Bobby Knight's squad? You play the players you have and they determine your legacy. The what if is a silly question. Some coaches get good breaks with players that appear at their door. It happens. Sometimes you have kids you think are studs and they fail miserably. It happens. You have every right to discuss the product on the field and the coach that leads them, but the What If Player A was not here is ridiculous.

Until Towson puts more emphasis ($$$) into these Olympic sports, they are going to struggle. It's not just about facilities. Some of these programs need to fully funded.

Certainly the school has to put more into the program. However, the coaches should also be required to raise a certain amount of money for their program. While this may not be true in Power 5 schools, in schools where funding is a challenge, the fund raising should be part of a head coaching job for the Olympic sports. Either that or don't worry if they win, lose or draw.

  9. Wondering the thoughts of regarding the future of college football at this level....how long will it last. In my opinion, with the portal being what it is....the kids that play well think they are ready for "Bama and therefore enter the portal. The kids who play poorly think the coach hates them and enter the portal. The final result is 50 new kids on a team every year, which makes building a program nearly impossible. How long will universities pour large sums of money into these programs. Even if you win a national championship.....next to no one knows about it.

Football is a sport that can bring excitement and camaraderie to a campus, but at this level and with the competition you are looking t within this conference., especially with the teams that have been recently added.....it becomes a little tougher to sell.

Just wondering what others thoughts are.

    Just an opinion.

Rob - uses transfer portal to bring in a whole new defense

also Rob - “transfer portal is terrible, people are buying my players away from me!”

These are not inconsistent statements. The fact is the situation requires use of the portal, since these are the new rules. While you have to use it, that does not mean you don't think it is terrible for the game.

Agreed. Never understood the amount of people here who get upset when we say coaches here should use this as a springboard. Win big, do a good job and move on.  Spending long period of time at a school breeds complacency.

Not sure I agree. There is something to be said for planting a seed and watching it grow. If you are in the coaching business, complacency is not a part of your vocabulary, no matter how long you are at one place. Even those who are at one place for extended periods of time and do not have tremendous success, it rarely (I would like to say never, but that would likely be inaccurate) is due to complacency. Maybe, just not good at what you do!

There's a lot of stuff that I can't talk about here. I'm not saying that he was necessarily a cancer, but some guys fit and some guys don't. We didn't have many chemistry issues last season. I thought AB had a great stretch in 2019-20 for about 7 or 8 games and then the body language was an issue. That's all I can say.

Lets just say he was very good friends with TJ somebody who Skerry threw off the team. Birds of a feather......

That's pretty much all sports, both college and pro, nowadays.  Think of your favorite pro teams -- over the last 25 years, how many on your favorites have played their entire career for that one team?  Outside of generational talents like Rodgers, Ovechkin, Crosby, Giannis (TBA), or Trout (also TBA), the days of guys playing their entire careers for one team are pretty much gone.  If you can accept that as a fan and accept that it's happening in college sports too, then it makes it easier to overlook.  Players are going to listen to the advice from the people who think the most positively for them and while if you're good enough, the League will find you, your chances of making it won't magically skyrocket because you go to a different team.

I understand that we are stuck with what we have in order to support teams. I love the O's and Ravens....but it gets harder. many of my friends who were incredible fans are losing interest year by year. Just saying it is getting tough.
