  1. After watching the game last night and seeing the totally stupid technical for unnecessary and dumb push by #55, I was left with the same thought as every year. Skerry teams always find some dumb play that cost them the game. Without that tech, they likely would not have won, but at least had a chance. Total loss of poise. History repeating itself.

Yeah the campus would moan and complain about a $2 increase to the athletics fees. The city of towson is getting billion dollar upgrades. Investments in New luxury apartments, Whole Foods, LA fitness, and restaurants uptown. Need some juice in the athletic dept to draw attention to them and away from all the other options towson students have uptown at the mall, bars, and stumpys hatchet house etc. They need to go big or go home

Again, I don't disagree with you regarding the likely uproar of a fee increase as there are jut not many folks who really care. It would take a 100 dollar per student increase to raise two million, which likely is the minimum needed to really make a difference. If games are there, they might go...if not..so be it. Waddell was able to change that culture...and a Waddell without the reckless spending would be good. But the one who really has to make a statement and identify the GOALS of athletics is the president. I keep going back to my basic point. You need to know what is expected and what you are willing to fund. Without a public statement from the president on that matter, all of this conversation does not have much meaning.

Yes. The second should be “will I be able to can the unsuccessful football coach?”  If yes continue. If no, Leave

The real question is do enough people care about the success of Towson Athletics that every student would be required to pay more in their student fee to fund such a journey. Those that care about the success care a great deal......but are there enough of them. I still believe there should be a public statement from the President as to what is the "real" goal of Towson Athletics. Address the funding...Address the Competitive Goals. Address the Community Service. Until we get a real picture as to what she (and the university system) wants out of Towson Athletics....it is the blind leading the blind.

It's not political stating facts as long we stay neutral and there is a possibility we could have our first female AD. I think the stereotype of the women's administrator is that she won't care about men's sports is pretty much gone out the window. Not to say there aren't administrators and assoc. ADs like that. I know I had a professor back in the day that I won't name that may have fit that profile (that some on this board may have had) but that was 30 years ago. There are five female ADs in Power Five conferences. It's going to happen at some point and we all seem to fear the unknown. It may be a good thing or it may not. Just like our male ADs. We've had some good ones and some not so good ones. I think a lot depends on what the committee is looking for and we assume she will direct them towards her goal, yet it's IMPOSSIBLE to not think that a donor that gave the school over $5 million won't have a lot of influence on this selection.

I still hope that a "random" season ticket holder, that has not been privy to the internal Towson politics, should be on the committee representing the regular folks who Towson hopes to attract to games. I do understand that the 5 million dollar guy has lots of pull and that type of person has had that influence over the years. We have heard talk by the previous ADs of Tiger Nation. Lets let one of those folks have input in a major decision. .....Plus it would be an awesome PR move

  5. What, I think, would be very helpful and give the fans a better understanding of what this is all about.....is a statement from the President stating what her goal is for Athletics. Just saying "we want to win in football and basketball" would be insufficient. A thorough statement regarding both the competitive and financial aspects of athletics is important. A statement regarding how athletics is to be a part of the entire university experience....as opposed to just being an independent section. A statement clearly defining what is expected of coaches in regard to competition, graduation, fundraising and behavior are all terribly significant. I hope we don't get a "behind closed doors" selection.

We also have to realize the world we live in. In the world of sports in media, you notice the announcers/analysts/broadcasters.....there is always representatives of both genders, of all racial backgrounds and total diversity. I know we are not supposed to be talking politics here....and I hope this is not viewed in that light. Without saying if it is good, bad or indifferent, the trend is now toward female ADs, i.e. Delaware----William and Mary, etc. Facts are facts...so nothing should surprise us.......My only hope is that this is an open process, with the President making clear the ultimate goal.

  6. Lets not take our eye off the ball and start talking compensation. Lets talk about accomplishments. I only used Elon as one example. We need to find the right fit for Towson. BTW, longevity does not equal mediocrity. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. That is the talk of those finding the new AD.......find the one that does not. If it was easy, it would have been done already. It is a tough job. That is why Schatzel's choice of "searchers" is as important as any part of the process. I know nothing of the two mentioned, so I cant speak to that. I think it would be great if she had a "regular" fan.....not big donor...not someone who is beholding to anyone other than those who want to come and watch competitive sports.....JUST A FAN.........as part of the committee.

  7. I really think we need someone who "knows who Towson is". We should not be worried about keeping up with the Joneses. We need to be the best we can be for who we are. That does not mean accepting mediocrity. We need to get folks in places who know how to maximize the resources we have. We also need someone who the name "Towson", means something to, beyond just a step toward their next job. I know many of you like Waddell, but the financial position he put Towson in (and he was gone by the time the S*** hit the fan) made the next persons job more than difficult. While Waddell had many positives, he clearly was going to be gone and what he did here was more superficial than anything else. We should use the change that has been made at WElson as an example. Their AD has done an amazing job, and from my understanding, the only reason he is not at Towson is because we would not meet his price tag. Had we done so, we would have made up the difference several times over.

That person is hard to find, but clearly worth the time and money in the search. Go with the interim until you find the right person...it may take longer than you would hope and cause some minor difficulties along the way, but we need a long term answer.

Being the NC State to UNC or Michigan State to Michigan as Dr. Caret proposed will never happen. Being Baltimore's College Team is a great slogan, but in reality makes little difference. Baltimore is a city where people are more proud of the high school they went to rather than Towson University. I don't know how to do it, which is why I am not an AD......., but there is a mixture of fiscal responsibility, student athlete experience and pubic relations that no one has found yet....and when you find that person who understands what it takes, be ready to pay.

  8. We need to hope Sorem is never anywhere near the AD chair. I know firsthand how sexist she is toward men's sports. I also know firsthand her willingness to let women's sports be unaccountable for poor decision making. She would be a total disaster!!!!!!!!!!!!

Really??  You think that. 134-128 regular season is not the pretty good.

The point I am making is that regular season records are, in a one bid conference, meaningless. If all you want is a pat in the back, you can refer to regular season records. If you want something that matters, refer to post season....that's where you earn your money.

  10. Actually, sort of a silly point. It would be similar to saying, what is Bill Belicheck's record without Tom Brady. Maybe he should be fired. Coaching records are obviously better when they have exceptional players. Regular season records of our basketball coach are pretty good....extension after extension, but has the men's b-ball program been a success? I would venture to say not. There are many ways to evaluate success. People tend to use the ones that serve their preconceived notion.

What do you expect him to say, “the guys I brought in are stiffs & I think we’re going to stink”? I mean, don’t most coaches engage in “coach speak”?

As for me, I’m going to reserve judgment. Not printing tickets to the big dance but not automatically assuming we’re going to be lousy either. Having said that, I think 3 of the 4 transfers (Holden, Nolan & Rizzuto) could be pretty good; not so sure about the 4th (Paar).

I am sorry. I did leave the last sentence out of my original post. The last sentence should read "Though I am sorry that we only once got past the first game of the conference tournament". You are what your record says you are, and PS record in games that mean something is atrocious.

    21-22’ roster listed.
Very happy our freshman are returning.
    New class coming in.
    Holland & Gray back.
Sophomore Trio that loves Towson too + Nolan & AR.

On paper we are good and with a full offseason etc.   I like our chances for the upcoming season.

    Not sure, but isn't this the same quote I saw in 2020 &2019 & 2018 & 2017, etc?

Pat owes us a zoom show with Spiro this off season with a map of what the hell he has planned for this program.  I want specifics.  10 seasons and $$$

    He owes us.  More transparency.

What do you want him to say? There is nothing he can say that will make any difference. Let his results do the talking for him. In one of the posts above, some kid is coming because PS laid out his path to a conference championship. I fell bad for the kid as he likely will be very disappointed. Talk is cheap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ultimately and I’ve given this a lot of thought since Thursday..  all the blame for us not dancing falls on us Alumni.
We haven’t done enough for his program to succeed.

I like the idea of dumping your season tickets!

I welcome PS to comment on this board and tell us honestly how we can all help!!

We are all disgusted and down in the dumps right now..

I’m not trying to be a smart ass...   we need a state of the program discussion ASAP.  We need more transparency..  why certain guys left the program and what is the plan for 21’-22’... rebuild!!??

I think PS is a great guy but seriously...  his next deal with Spiro should address alumni questions etc.

I’m sick and tired of being a laughing stock.

We built an arena for what reason!?

Why take a player back unless you know without a doubt there will be no issues!?

Oral Roberts/Abilene Christian/Loyola Chicago/Gonzaga...  how do they do it!?

    We all deserve some answers!

Funny how everybody says "PS is a great guy, but blah, blah, blah"

Maybe he is and maybe he isn't. you only know him from afar, but that is neither here nor there. You don't get an extension for being a great guy, just like you don't get an extension for having a team get a 3.0 GPS. maybe you should....but you don't.....So talk about the stuff that matters. The teams have failed to perform at the moments that matter. That is all that matters. It is all that mattered when he got extensions based on numbers of wins....nothing to do with being a "great guy". Keep your eye on the ball......what's good for the goose is good for the gander. You don't need to soften the blow....other coaches have been fired for not winning and they have far less resources that PS. We don't need reasons...we don't need explanations...we need a new coach....period.

This transfer stuff is getting out of control. If this culture existed in the glory days of the CAA we never would of had the Gary Neal, Eric Maynor, and JJ Barea’s for more than a season. It makes it almost impossible for a mid major to make a run like Mason and VCU did because as soon as a player has one good season they bolt for a bigger name school.

You are correct.....but that is the intention of the Power 5. If you believe that any of the Power 5 schools  worry about being "fair" to mid majors, you are sadly mistaken. Do you think they really want to share the NCAA tournament money with Drexel or Mason or Towson. The mid majors are just a fly in the ointment for them. The best thing that could happen is to have the Power 5 break off...make their own rules and let the others make rules that benefit the vast majority of universities and student athletes.

  16. Why does Skerry get a pass for this year? Was Towson the only school that had to deal with Covid. Loyola...a # 9 seed (and they had covid as well) beat # 1 seed Navy in the patriot League tournament. Regardless of obstacles, you have to get the job done, especially with that salary!

He deserves NO PASSES. He used all of the ones folks should be inclined to give.
