First off, they are probably limited on how many scholarships they can bring in. Secondly, if you in your last year of your contract, why would you want to rely on just freshmen in what could be your last recruiting class? You would want to bring in guys that can help you right away.

At this point you are correct.  However,  if growing talent from within was the MO perhaps you wouldn't need to patch together a competitive team in the last year of your contract.  My post was not designed to criticize.  Just a statement of fact. I think most people would agree growing talent from within is a better strategy. But I am happy to agree to disagree.

His hudl reel looks like Stefon Diggs in high school! He was making some big catches on the same field at Good Counsel just like the nfl star. Big pickup for the big cats

Not sure I would go that far but he looks really good with a big upside. Fits the big receiver mold it looks like the coaches like.  A QB, RB and now a WR. All look good and I think will do well...probably early for the RB and WR. Now bring on the big guys! Especially on defense.

JMU can pull in an entire class of 3* and some 4* guys. Delaware used to be able to recruit almost as well as JMU and they still get really good classes, based on their history. We're lucky if we get two or three 3* guys as freshmen. But all those schools also grab numerous transfers every year. JMU does it at quarterback ever two years. They did it with Vad Lee from Georgia Tech and DiNucci from Pitt. They get guys, usually athletic spread type of quarterbacks, that fit their system. I have an issue that some of the transfer quarterbacks were all over the place in terms of style. We should be adding similar-type of quarterbacks like Flacco or even Grant Enders, every season or every two seasons. I think it's tough to win at this level without a quarterback that can run some. Amendola is not Flacco in terms of speed and athleticism, but does appear to have some Enders in him.

I really don't care how we get there, but Towson needs to make the playoffs in 2020 or 2021. If you play in the spring, you have 19 seniors (most are redshirts or have graduated) that will use up their eligibility. I believe all are on scholarship, though one or two might be partials. If you don't play, a lot of those guys won't be coming back, because they probably have jobs lined up. But some might. Then it puts more emphasis on making the playoffs with an eight-game schedule. If we play, we will have nearly a brand new team next season, especially on the offensive line, where we have four senior starters. The only returning guy would be center Cole Cheripko and in fact, we'd likely have to go with some talented by inexperienced replacements at every other position. That's a case where you have to bring in 2-3 juco/FBS transfers at a minimum just to add bodies. You can't just recruit five freshmen OL and have them as your depth.

Doesn't everyone get an extra year of eligibility whether they play in the spring or not? In other words...if they play in the spring it doesn't count as a year of eligibility used.

Again, there will be more than 2 commits.  This year especially,  smart FCS coaches aren’t running around and encouraging their commits to splash the social media world.  A committ ain’t  committed until they sign.  Reality,  most FCS recruits don’t verbal until the fall, as the are waiting on FBS offers.

Of course I understand that there will be more than 2 recruits eventually.  I will respectfully disagree that "smart coaches" are influencing whether a kid posts his commitment on social media.  Smart coaches are getting the best kids they can...any way they can.  Posting the commitment does nothing to hurt the kid or school.  That said TU currently has more transfers than 2021 commits. By the way...the way the transfers were announced is via social media...lol. IMO strong programs are built through high school recruiting and developing those players.  It's okay to mix in a transfer or two in positions of need. I'm a fan and I am rooting for a strong finish to the recruiting season.  I like the two kids they have a lot. But would love to see some big guys and linebackers.

  5. Transfers are great to plug in areas of need.  I just believe you build a program through recruiting.  Not a knock on this guy.  I'm sure he will do well.  However,  I hope they are putting at least as much emphasis on recruiting as they are landing the big transfer.  Again..nothing against this QB. Just a comment on what appears to be a philosophy.  It's now September and ALL of the offseason personnel news has been about transfers in and out as TU currently has 2 commits for 2021.

Lacrosse has to deal with this and they only have 12.5 scholarships. They’ll figure it out. In lax, seniors had obs lined up, so many didn’t return this fall. In football, I can see the same thing. A lot of guys will graduate and not return. They’ll spread some ships out. It will sort itself out.

I trust that it will sort itself out...but at what cost? I would imagine the football team demographic is a bit different from the lax demographic as far as ability to pay. May not be as simple as spreading out some ships.  Not necessarily disagreeing with you.....but don't believe it will be that simple and likely impact some of the guys significantly

  7. Everyone gets another year.  Seniors do not count against scholarships limits.....but they still have to be paid. What does that mean for Towson football? I'm sure post COVID budgets won't allow for a full signing class in 2021. Do they only sign 6-8 kids? Does it impact transfers because transfers get scholarships? Will be interesting to see how it all unfolds.

  8. IMO he is a very solid player.  Agree with comment above.  Good at everything but not necessarily great at anything.  He will get an opportunity.  Guys just don't emerge into stars their 5th and now 6th year but who knows.  There is a big freshman this year and another kid that looks explosive coming next fall. Should be competitive for playing time and likely RB by committee the next couple years.

Just because you don't want it to happen, doesn't mean it's not going to happen. But that's par for the course. The CAA has been working on a plan. Maybe it's a shitty plan, maybe it's a decent one. Personally, I'm ok either way because spring sports will be playing. There should be a vaccine by then and if they can play, why not play for a limited schedule? Forget the playoffs and just play a CAA title game or play another conference in some sort of special FCS bowl game. A lot of schools who don't play football this season will end up cutting non-revenue sports. Right or wrong.

Correct..limited is better than none. I'm hoping for the best.  If we are still unable to play sports by the spring that will mean the entire country will have been on at least partial shut down for over a year.  The implications of that will be far reaching and the last thing on our minds will be sports.

Most pro prospects in the CAA who are seniors won't play. Unless there's a long shot that the NFL moves everything up like the draft and Combine. That could happen if the FBS can't play in the fall. But those kids can't wait. If they want to get a pro look, they need to go to another program, even if it's a short one.

How many "pro prospects" are there in the CAA? Especially if they don't play in the spring.  Maybe a handful? I'm more interested in knowing how much it impacts college sports if they don't play at all.  Scholarships? Do current seniors get another year of eligibility? How does it impact the 2021 incoming class? Etc.

The "we are good at recruiting and need to keep it quiet" line is pretty damn funny.  We are pretty good at landing transfers that fall through the cracks.

Lol...I'm not qualified to judge recruiting.  I think that takes care of itself with wins and losses.  My intention is not to criticize.  Yet I know that recruiting is very different this year.  That said I can't help but notice the almost daily commitments to other CAA schools Ivies and Pioneer schools. I really like the first two and if this class is quality over quantity I am good with that.

  12. Okay I will be more patient.  Must admit though...the question that begs to be asked is if Towson has to keep commitments quiet why don't other schools in the CAA do the same? Blasting it all over Twitter seems to be okay for JMU, Villanova,  etc. Also that wouldn't explain the two commits....did they go against Towson's requests not to publicize? I like the RB and the QB and I hope you are right and there are 3-5 already committed that are on the down low.

They may have more commits in 2021, but it’s not publicized. This is par for the course in terms of commits at this point. Maybe we’d have a couple more, but kind of tough in a pandemic.

Constantine is a West Coast guy and made the right move for him since it appears the PAC-12 will attempt to play conference games in the fall. I hear he’s walking on, so he may not play at all. Also had some cryptic Tweet last week that appeared to show he was moving on.

As for replacing him, I don’t know how you can get anybody to play here until the CAA comes out with a legitimate plan that doesn’t have kids playing in snowstorms. They are working on it with all the athletic directors, so I think there will be some kind of condensed season in the spring.

Yeah...makes sense for him IF he plays.  Hard to crack the lineup at a PAC 10 school when you show up on August 1st.....especially at QB. That said I wish the young man well and hope he isn't overthinking this.  Yep....tough to get someone with no plan. Recruiting seems to be moving more quickly recently rather than more slowly due to COVID 19. I'm sure they have a plan..will be interesting to see how things unfold with so many unknowns.
