Keys to the second half of the season

EVERYONE can be and needs to do better. I feel like this team a little like the Browns, in the fact that we were hyped up this season and play has been stagnant at times this year. Feels like we aren't getting into second and third gear much. Injuries are a part of the game and we have them every year. Hopefully the bye week helped and that we can get a decent crowd (not hopefully, looking at tickets available) on another beautiful night.

    Preseason CAA

Not sure how to edit my post but below is the official preseason order. 1. Hofstra (14) 331 2. Charleston (18) 323 3. Northeastern (4) 291 4. James Madison (3) 253 5. Delaware (2) 241 6. Towson 194 7. William & Mary 131 8. Drexel 125 9. UNCW 118 10. Elon 48 I would have went: Good coaching> non 1. Northeastern 2. Charleston 3. Hofstra 4. Delaware 5. JMU 6. Towson 7. Drexel 8. William & Mary 9. UNCW 10. Elon Good coaching>>> Not sold on Pemberton carrying Hofstra. He always came up small in big games and moments (sounds like a TU player). Honestly think 12-6 will win the conference and separation from 1-8 will be non existent. Knight is still the best all around player in the league.

    Albany at TOWSON

Palpable buzz around this one... Wonder if Albany needs directions on how to get down here.

    CAA Basketball preview

The caa is wide open this year. It just Depends on what wins depth (hopefully), coaching, talent or the best player. This season with the tourney being in dc (sorry wm fans) should be really good and intense.

    First practice update

Would like those are regular season games but both are going to be pretty good this year. Solid teams to get some good work in

    CAA Basketball preview

Was just going to post the Mid Major Madness one. Good write up and a solid site that is knowledgeable about mids

    First practice update

We would all take that last statement. We, unlike UNCW, have enough other players to help pick it up on defense if one isn't so strong. As good as Toews was offensively, he gave up a lot defensively (but expected from a little freshman, coming to the US). Depth can be great, hopefully everyone can accept their roles, which is a big problem in college hoops. It would be good for the young guys to see two R-SRs in Tusntall and Harris, to come off the bench, bring energy and do their job.

Vball off to a hot start

We are a mid-major in Maryland. The only sports that "count", (sorry, its true and needs to be said) are the "money" programs, Basketball, Football, Lax and Womens Lax. Is it fair? No, but those are the big sports and the ones where the coaches make the most. Sorry Griggey, but every program/job if they don't reach their pinnacle after a while becomes stagnant. The ones that are in the spotlight (see above) are the ones where the pressure is. Building a program/foundation like Pat did is great, but with the mixed results recently, it is fair to ask the question is he the right person to take us on the next step? Matt Brady, Monte Ross, Todd Bozeman, all took over "doormats" made the NCAA's and were later let go. Sorry for calling you an ass hat as well. However, I am fairly optimistic on the hoops team this year, the CAA is down, we have so many returning veteran players, and an OOC schedule that will hopefully challenge us for later on in March.

No. 9 Florida shuts out Tigers, 38-0

The soft coverage against FCS teams with average quarterback play is maddening. I would love to see teams try and beat us deep, as the chances for that are likely less than them completing 8 yard passes with another 4-5 yards of cushion. I mean we have a very good QB, and Villanova played with 1 safety out of the box most of the game and we had trouble connecting on the deep ball, and we tried numerous times. Their qb was short and did not have the arm strength to chuck in 25+ yards down the field. Giving such a soft cushion with little to no pass rush does not equate into a good defense. I AM NOT SAYING TO FIRE ROB. But everyone assumes we wouldn't get a good coach here, if he were to leave and I disagree with that. Towson is in a competitive conference, with above average stadium/facilities, a competitive/but not out of this world admission standards, average level fan support for an FCS program (not compared to the university size, but still), that has almost unlimited job security (4 coaches in 50+ years), outside of a major metro area, good recruiting area, nice place to level (who wants to raise a family in Fargo, Missoula, Bozeman, Jacksonville AL, etc) and average to above average salary in comparison to other FCS programs.

Vball off to a hot start

Probably not, as he has something like a .700 win % at Towson, and its Volleyball. They just always (and not just under him) choke in the CAA's. Really good question though ass hat. A legitimate question though, do teams pay to host the conference tournament? If so, wouldn't be a bad idea for us. Can give them a nice home court advantage and are centrally located in the conference, not to mention an arena in the better half.

Coincidentally enough, Florida dropped one spot for 9 to 10 in the AP poll.

We are. There are some that are just happy with a team. Not expecting us to be JMU or NDSU, but when 25% of teams at the FCS level make the playoffs, we should be in more than we aren't.

Very nice to see. Seems like season after season they churn out lots of wins. Hoping they can finally get over the hump in the CAA Tournament!

Win 5 more games they make the playoffs If not they aren’t in the playoffs. Might be good for another context extension. But need to beat the chickens,sb, and elon consistently to be a contender.

No. 9 Florida shuts out Tigers, 38-0

Hopefully the check cashes. this is an angry sec team that’s one win away from playing for the playoff (uga game). Take a week off and win some games after this. Defense is suspect but if they can be ok we will be a back end playoff team. Del elon sb games are huge

    Florida scouting report on Towson

Not disagreeing. It is more important to have a consistent winner and making the playoffs and all of us would like that. But as far as exposure and notoriety go, its not even close, Beating a Top 25 team or anyone like that is bigger and creates more of a buzz. We can play 5 straight first round games in a row the rain against Duquesne on the app known as ESPN +-*/ o, but I feel it won't push the needle like the other would. Unless you are in the middle of nowhere (NDSU, JMU, EWU, Jacksonville State, Montana) FCS football does not have a big following outside of loyal alums. To which we do not have, I mean there's a thread to try and make a Towson Bar in Baltimore, for the fans that don't want to go the homes games... Towson is 8 freaking miles from Baltimore. On a nice Saturday there is no reason not to show up to a few a year. One of my tops in person moment was when Athens hit Brian Dowling on a 3-15 for 50 yards or so, leading to a 4th down Terrance TD to go up 26-10 on UCONN

Those teams (except Liberty) don't pay as well. We have played those G5 teams before and still have gotten smoked (WVU, MD, USF, WAKE). If we are going to lose, we might as well make what we can off of it. I don't understand SDSU in 2021. Whatever we make, will be spent in travel to get out there. I don't think a game against SDSU pushed the needle for a Cali recruit to come to Towson, but who knows. I would like a local FBS/FCS Double Header. Towson, JMU, UMD/WVU/UVA/Vtech/NAVY, at a neutral site, M&T or FedEx. But along with the bigger schools not agreeing, can't play two games in a day on those grass fields.

No Clark or Allen listed on depth chart, hopefully they will be good to go later in the season..

    Florida scouting report on Towson

Playing top 10 teams helps get exposure too. Seeing the school name up there on the scoreboard and or on ESPN is a big deal, especially now a days. Playing on ESPN, ESPNU, ESPN2, SEC Network is legit and a place recruits, alum and casual fans can see the Towson name without tyring to sign up and stream a Flo-sports subscription. I'm not advocating moving up to FBS, but Citadels win over a bad Georgia Tech team probably gave them more exposure nationwide than they would get by winning an FCS championship game that starts at the host stadium 11 AM local time and on ESPN2 a week after "Bowl Season" ends.

No. 18 Villanova upends No. 5 Tigers in OT, 52-45

Yes, I will give credit. Considering how the offense hasn't been great (Tom's passing #'s, our inability to run at times), we have still scored a lot of points. The defense and special teams have a lot to do with that. That still does not take away that we were out-coached once again in a big game. I'm not expecting a national championship, or even the CAA tittle (both NDSU and JMU are and will continue to be WAY better than we will), but I along with everyone else did have high expectations for this team. This maybe is it for a few years, as we have so many veterans, R-SR's and SR's on the team, it's disappointing to lay yet another egg at home in a big game. The defense has been phenomenal in forcing turnovers, especially with interceptions! They deserve a ton of credit for this, especially since they are turning some around for scores or very good field position. But when you have 8,800 people there, most being parents/very causal fans/students, and you see the other team run the same couple of short plays all day for 52 points and 500+ yards, it may make them think "wow this team is bad," and can have an impact on if they return (Yes, the offense scored a lot which could counteract the previous statement)
