All of Hampton’s wins this season.

An absolutely UNACCEPTABLE loss. No way to spin it. No credit for clawing back into the game. Unacceptable.

But but. They are “talented” we weren’t healthy. Two road games in a row.  Whatever excuses the pat crew will ramble off

the opponent played 5 states away on Thursday and then lost their best player half way through and still won.  STOP with the damn excuses

Yeah, we thought the Monmouth loss was bad, but they are decent this season. I'm not excusing this loss, but I'm not entirely shocked because we're not that talented and not good enough to show up against any team. Yes, that's on Pat and the Watson injury was devastating but he's not Michael Jordan. Pat's not going anywhere, but he may need to clean house again with a few players and while the transfer portal is not kind to teams with little $$$, have to find a way to get players from somewhere whether it NAIA, D2, juco. low D1 on the cheap.

Things that should not happen late in the season and happened today

*May stepping out of bounds twice

*Charles continuing to throw the ball away late in games or losing the ball

*Tarke throwing up short floaters that hit nothing

*Williamson coming up empty offensively consistently

*Free throw bricks from Lowery and Thompson. I get it with Lowery, you have to play him for his D

*Coming out another game with no energy. It's not the lineup. Coach has to get these guys up for the game. Maybe start with a legit press or a zone press. Start in a zone or do something funky. Start or play Jaiden Cole for 2 minutes since his redshirt is nearly burned.

Monmouth is pretty good and has 3/4 guys who would start on our team.  Hampton was 3-23 going into today. THERE SHOULD BE NO FUCKING EXCUSES

Year 13 and still losing games like this.

Hampton does have talent. Ask Hofstra. But we came out there just going to Charles a few times, going through the motions, didn't guard the three, got killed on the hedge early and they got confidence as the game went on. They could have folded as they usually do but we were the team that folded in the end. That's unacceptable.

    3-23.  But has talent. Yup

I will also say that I thought this season was over before it started. these games happen. Need to finish the year strong.

Hampton was 3-23 and hadn’t won at home all year.  Their best player didn’t play half the game.  So what are you saying? This can’t happen. Sorry

3rd right now considering, our “coaching”, offensive output and schedule, is pretty good. It’s frustrating that we allowed~58 a game in 3 road losses. Those coils have been huge. Was a total no show against Delaware on both ends but that was the only full stinker in league play

make a run again in DC?! Is there a marathon or 5k that they are participating in?

Unfortunately every past and current (minus the newbies from last year) has won back to back more in the CAAT in the last 14 years except… us

The last time we did that was 09 when we came the “closest” to a final. Cam Long’s step back three put a dagger in us.

PS I missed you!! It’s been a while

Whatever. We held them to 30%, so it should have been 40%? WTF are you watching? They aren't very good but our defense was good. Yeah, that's the end result to hold teams under 60 points and under 40% from the field. Nobody is f-ing perfect. We gave up a few layups on miscommunication.

I watched a game where the team in white/grey allowed a ton of open shots, both from deep and at the rim. The team in black also got 17 offensive rebounds (some were late helter skeleter) but regardless that is too many to allow to WM. luckily they couldn’t shoot and missed countless wide open looks including 50% from the FT line. Very fortunate to come out with a win.
But again you’ll tell Me that today isn’t Friday February 16th and that there currently isn’t a blue sky in Baltimore so..

Gotta make road foul shots in future games.
Shark and May 9-15 and 4-6 from 3 combined 👏

Ugly win but take it and move on. 1 more win till an over .500 season!!!

Here is the Good, Bad, and Ugly. This game was unwatchable at times. Both teams were bad and the Tribe played Charleston tight. We either played down to their level or we're just not as good as we showed against Charleston on the road or UNCW at home.

    Good

*May finally caught fire in the second half, hitting a few threes from his favorite corner and nailing a nice mid-range pull up. Maybe putting him back in the lineup helped, though it took him awhile to get going.

*Back to the old starting lineup of Tarke, Thompson, Jones, May and Tejada. Started out 12-0 and then went into a very long drought.

*Thompson passed the ball very well (5 assists). Had 11 points and 12 rebs.

*Defense was strong and as Pat mentioned that they changed the ball-screen coverage

*Delaware and Hofstra lost tonight to Towson moves into 3rd place in the CAA.

    Bad

*May had five turnovers. When he tries to put the ball in traffic, he's in trouble. When he moves without the ball and cuts to the basket without it, he can score.

*Charles had 11 points, but should have had around 16 as he went 3 of 7 from the line and 4 of 9 from the field, missing numerous bunnies. Also, nearly picked up another flagrant foul.

*Offense was pathetic at times. Very sloppy which is normally not us (13 turnovers). We miss shots, but normally don't turn it over that much. But we shot well (49%). The turnovers and free throw shooting (10-of-19) with several missed one-and-ones down the stretch were troubling.

*Tejada? Hello? I know he's not a great defender or rebounder. But he's a decent FT shooter at 80.4%

    Ugly

*The game. It was painful to watch at times.

You’reToo kind. Defense good?  End result yes but we allowed too many open shots both close and far, didn’t rebound and fouled too much. Luckily it was wm and not a top 10 team In the league.

I didn’t realize Skerry had any critics. Would any Skerry critics please stand up

Well, a W is a W is a W. No style points, but it beats losing. For whatever the reason, we simply can’t score in conference road games. Only 1 game over 67 points, which was ironically vs C of C.

Given the conspicuous limitations this team has in terms of talent, it’s actually quite remarkable we’re currently in 3rd place.

On to Hampton Saturday, to play the 0-13 Pirates. Talk about your potential trap games.

Critics?! Lmfao Exactly. Free pass after free pass. One of, If not the best job in the country.
15-10 and 1 win away for. A winning season aka the ultimate goal for most.

Burn the tape. Zero effort tonight. Couldn’t defend or rebound. Thank god tribe missed pretty much every wide open shot. If we can grind out a win Saturday. It makes for a big final home stand.

good: Charles passing and no injuries?

This game scares me. William & Mary has only won at home once in conference play, but they came close to picking off Charleston. Of course, similar to the way our lack of offense can keep opponents in a game at times Charleston's porous defense makes teams look better too. Case in point, our strong offensive performance against them.

I believe taking a quick count Skerry is 12-14 against William & Mary, and I put the loss to them when we had Benimon in the conference tourney semifinals as a top five most painful (probably No. 3 for me) loss as a Towson fan since the 1993-94 season.

They beat us down there last year without two of their best players… need to hit the boards hard as I don’t believe we will shoot well. You would think they’d play a zone.

    as 88 says. Must win

  11. 24 minutes ago, mat1992 said:

That's your opinion. They should be praised when things turn out well as much as we hammer them.

Mhmm. That’s an opinion shared by 98% on here. So.
AGAIN they have done a VERY GOOD job this year.
Next, they need to work on the gameday experience , which has gotten a bit better this year but there’s a ton of work to do

BTW, we piss on marketing all the time but kudos to Steve, Mike and all the marketing people for getting people out there last night, especially the students with the free pancakes. I know 2,100 isn't huge and that was probably paid, but the environment was really good despite a terrible start. More students means more excitement. I understand that people have to get up early the next day and so the non-student crowd for a 9:10 tip wasn't great to be kind.

Criticism for marketing in the past was 100% warranted. They have done a very good job this year.

A necessary win. I thought CT dominated inside against a team with little or no inside presence. Sulaiman had a good game as well, as did Tejada, who provided much needed scoring. The good Tarke showed up last night, so maybe benching him sent a message that got through. The same can’t be said for the benching of May, who responded with mere 8 points, on 2-8 shooting I believe.

Third straight slow start at home, which is alarming. We had what, 12-14 points at the halfway point of the first half. You can get away with that against the Elon’s of the world, but not against good teams (see Delaware game).

Can’t complain about 8-4 in the conference, but we’ve got to sweep this upcoming 2 game road swing (W&M & Hampton) to stay in contention for a top 4 finish

Exactly. Only thing I’ll say about tarke is, I enjoy him driving to the hoop to score or pass much more than the flat footed threes. These are the type of games we need from Charles against smaller teams. I have a feeling we are going to get Tejada or May or Williamson in a game not two or all three.

If we start off slow at home in either of the last two games we will get boat-raced.  Im Sure Pat will run out the same lineup until we lose a game. I just would like a lowery, tarke, Suliman/May/Tejada pair and Charles lineup. Think that to start could set the tone defensively.

Both games this week are big, and of course we are coming off short rest for Thursday. Good news is they can stay in their hotel wed night through Saturday with no travel in between. Road is tough..

Adjustments need to be made mid-game...not only at halftime. Watching the Delaware game and seeing the poor rotation for 3 point shots, it seemed as though there were no mid game adjustments to force Delaware to make changes.  As much as it sounds repetitive....it all comes down to coaching. Especially MID-GAME, without predetermined substitutions.

Exactly.  Scheduling your subs is just ridiculous.
Adjustments in game is one of Pats major flaws, and he has PLENTY of flaws. Brining in Coleman and playing him for an extended period (not just as a message) is not good coaching.

Realistically an average three point shooting team should have its way with our defense. They just need to drive a bit and pass it 3 to 4 times. We switch, chase and over rotate like crazy.

I don’t like when he brings in Paar & Lowery at the same time. Just puts too many guys on the court who are essentially non-factors on offense on the court at the same time.

I hate to agree, but even though we beat them up there, DE appears to just be a more talented team than we are. Unfortunately, they’re not the only team in the conference who can make that claim. We’re very limited in terms of athleticism and shooting ability. We all know the formula for this team to win is defense & rebounding. As far as that goes, it appeared to me that DE had little difficulty beating our hedge defense, with good passing, last night.

It is infuriating to me that we steadfastly refuse to go uptempo, and play to the strengths of DWill and Tarke. The marching order for them should be to push the ball, penetrate the lane and either take it to the rim or kick it out to someone like May or Tejada, for an open 3.

May: might score 20 one night, and 2 the next

DWill: see May. Our laborious half court offense often results in him doing too much dribbling

CT: super high motor/try hard guy, who might occasionally score in  the teens, but is going to miss his fair share of close shots

Tejada: Erratic on offense; might get you in the low teens; might get you 2 points

    Jones: forget it

Suliman: ceiling is probably around 7-8 ppg

Lowery: great on D; a major liability in our ponderous half court offense

Paar: might occasionally get you 6 points. More like 2-4 ppg

Tarke: dreadful 3 point shooter. In 2 games vs DE he shot 7-32 from the field. Needs to abandon the 3 point shot and stick exclusively with driving to the basket

When you add all this up, it’s simply not encouraging. We can still salvage a top four finish if we run off 3-4 straight W’s, but beyond that, it’s exceedingly difficult to imagine any sustained success in the conference tournament

We don’t play to our strengths it seems.  Williamson and tarke can and should get into the paint anytime they want. Lowery too to some extent. Tejada can shoot. Charles is good off pick and roll. Honestly until last night jones was pretty good the last 5 or so games against smaller guys, going into the post.  He can rebound but not finish off those.

yes we need to go faster but it’ll never happen. Again, a decade plus of different style players, skills, attitudes etc and still we can’t put it all together.  Players come and go but yet the constant is still the same…. Longest tenured coach in d1 without a trip to the dance or conf tourney final

Let's start with the Good, Bad, and Ugly

    Good

    *The Crowd (3,500)

    Bad

*Another crappy start. I asked Pat about that and the NE start at home, where they got behind 15. Sounds like there could be changes on Monday night in the lineup. Can't start flat, especially on defense.

*Nendah Tarke is taking way too many shots for a point guard/combo guard//shooting guard. It's fine if most of those shots are within five feet, but those long 3s should not happen. In fact, I'd be looking to start Dylan Williamson in the next game. May was 1 for 6 and 0-3 from 3pt with 2pts and 2 rebounds. Can't have that from supposedly your best all-around player.

*I give Chase P. credit for getting out there, but they needed to go small tonight. He was unable to keep up with them in the halfcourt, especially Davis who just exploded past him off the dribble.

    Ugly

*Three-point defense. It's one thing to give up some huge threes (some contested) to Tyler Thomas and Hofstra. It's another to ignore the scouting report (according to PS) and allow Cavan Reilly and Gereald Drumgoole Jr. to make 7 of 11 threes combined. Delaware made 11 of 19 overall and 5-7 in the second half. If that is not fixed, this season is over. Maybe time for another lineup change.

Bottom line is that, I hate saying this cliche', but there is little margin for error. If this team doesn't come out, play hard and especially on the defensive end, they are not going to beat quality teams. Defense and rebounding. That's what Pat mentioned tonight because he knows there is no Timberlake, Benimon or even Moto on this team to take over. Listen to some of his quotes when the video goes up.

This team wasn’t ready to play from the jump. Simple as that. Delaware is a good team And their starting 5 is MUCH better than ours.  Inglesby is a questionable coach but looked like John Wooden out there compared to Pat.

Good- the crowd (though most won’t be back after watching that). Charles’ offensive play. Need to do that against smaller teams.

Bad- disappearing act of most of our players.  Trying to get into parking lots, arena and lines. You know you are Doing to have 3k+. Prepare for it!   free throw shooting

Ugly- the play of 24. Can’t guard and jacks up deep threes. Hasn’t made the extra pass or any pass really in the last few games. I could say more but I’ll be nice.
The defense.  We are slightly above average on defense on a good day. If we don’t play that way theres next to no chance to win.  Over rotating. Losing people. Not even moving at a game pace. All unacceptable.

Delaware had a plan and changed things up from last game. We did not and tried to run out the same role players who did step up last time, but couldn’t last night. It was clear early on but we kept doing it.
FOR AS BAD AS WE ARE AT TIMES AND SOME FRUSTRATED WITH THE COACH, WE CAN ALL AGREE THE NONSTOP QUICK SUBS DO MORR HARM THAN GOOD
