I didn't say one year. Flacco was a two-year grad transfer. They are looking at guys with two years left, but if they get a tremendous QB with one left, great. Then next season (if they are back), they have to do the transfer route again. Not like JMU doesn't do that. This is FCS where FBS transfers are how you build programs along with freshmen. Especially when you still don't pay COA like JMU and Delaware.

When grad transfer is mentioned, its assumed that they have 1 year left. Sorry. Some have 2 but most have 1.

  2. Sad thing is, for how bad we played for a lot of the game, if we played a lick of defense for 2 minutes or so we would have won. 47.4% 46.2% from 3 and 80% from the line, with 11 turnover (a lot were dead-ball ones) is usually good enough to win on the road. Unfortunately they got 17 more FT's and our leading assist man was our starting center. If you aren't getting anything from the 4 spot, please go smaller and more athletic with Timberlake/Dottin in the game.

Pass rusher is an urgent need, IMO.

Also, Pigrome has put his name in the transfer portal. Any chance he'd want to play at FCS level?

It’s been needed for 6 years now.

I think I mentioned Pigrome somewhere. He's a great athlete and runner, but he's a bad passer. I would consider him, but to me, he's a slasher/Taysom Hill type, even at this level. He's a great athlete. I just don't think we have any interest. He's from Alabama, so maybe he goes to Troy or even a triple-option team like Georgia Southern. If he still wants to play quarterback. If he doesn't, I'd love to have him as a WR/RB/Running QB.

I think you have to be patient with finding a QB. Not reaching for a guy who's a poor passer and waiting for the next Flacco-type coming after the spring. There will be dozens of guys available after the spring from FBS schools looking for a chance to play.

From what I heard, we're looking at a bunch of grad transfers, not just QBs but another CB, OLB, and maybe a TE. I think they want to see what they have in the big TE from Maryland, who never really played there.

So one year band aids? No way to build a program

Please ask him about pressing at a press conference.  You can tell him that board keeps asking about it.  He recruits athletes, but he doesn't leverage their talents.  It's like buying a Ferrari and then putting a 55 mph speed governor on it.

I do agree the team is doing much better than when they started 0-3.  Something has changed on offense.  Much more pick and rolls, off-ball movement, give and go's.  This team is sharper on offense than they were a month ago.  Now if they could only run more and press from time to time, we've got a good chance to make a run this year.

I thought we played a good game.  Delaware seemed to get every loose ball, they got some long rebounds, they were red hot from 3, but we were in this game.  I had thought we would only win 4-5 conference games after we started 0-3, but think we have showed improvement throughout the year (that's a bit unusual for Skerry teams).  Lastly, props to Betrand.  He has been outstanding all year.  Tough as nails.  Great game - can drive, can create his own shot and can shoot it.  I'm really excited with him and Gibson together for at least 2 more years after this year.

You must be new here. We always suck to start caa play. Always get better. Shot improvement.  Peak and then suck at the end. But welcome!

we didn’t play hard. If we did we would get lose balls and rebound. Instead of 4 guys staring at a ball bounce 3 times in the paint out to the 3 point line. 3 seniors and a 4th year junior. But yet ZERO leadership and accountability. A hell of a lot of sulking, bad body language and finger pointing. “The Skerry Years”

  5. Also 67-64 game with 3 left Brian takes an awful 3 pointer on a 3 on 3. Had momentum instead of driving it or getting a good look we settle for that garbage early in the shot clock. The basketball IQ from pat down to the players on this team is poor. And that’s me being nice.

10 years of players and they all are the same?! Hmm 🤔

I would like three wins. If we can't beat JMU and Elon, well, we belong in the play-in game unless we steal a win up North or get a win Saturday, which is certainly possible. I like the fight that this team has, but what I don't like is the awful start.

I give up on the "P" Word. It's not his style. He just won't press, but I agree, you can do other things in the halfcourt to force turnovers like trap. Even Delaware forced some turnovers by double-teaming Fobbs and Sanders a few times. We double on the hedge, but that doesn't really do much. Why did we shoot 14 threes in the first half? We settled. Gray started the season off strong from three and the more minutes he's played, the worse he's looked from beyond the arc. To be honest, he's been another disappointing transfer, just like Sanders was last year. But if we played more uptempo and pressured the ball some, Gray would thrive. He's not a low-post bruiser. He's a finesse, face-the-basket combo forward. But he has to play because Tunstall doesn't give you anything on offense and isn't do much on the other end of the floor. Not consistently anyway. He's had some good games lately, but not tonight.

No against threes but it needs to be the right people taking them. Gray shuffled his feet on corner threes every time and looks hesitant. One could be causing the other but what’s the staff doing and a great 3 shooter doing to correct that?

i like the smaller lineup and even Bertrand handling it and make plays.

Helping off of Allen and darling is just idiotic. I’ll blame the players for that because I can’t believe the staff is dumb enough to tell them to help on a driver and leave shooters.

Tigers +2.5.    or the right play (me thinks) is to take Tigers to win  +125; go LARGE.  (also - both coaches are mic'd up ?....curious to odds on an F-bomb from the sidelines...especially Towson side . lol) .  train back on track....

    Tigers 74

    Blue Hens 69

    Lol

This is a pivotal game for the season for both teams. This team needs to push the pace tonight and play tough defense. Fast breaks after rebounds is the key to this game imo. As for the crowd, wish we could sell 95% of the tickets to our arena for a game.... oh well! Get it Tigers!!!

Hahah. This team won’t push on the road. It makes it much sense and it’s the their style. 95% full without students. We can barely get 2k on a Saturday autism game against a good team with students on campus

  8. Until we have a coach that plays to his personnel. More of the same. We are to athletic and deep to play passive on defense with no pressure. And to not press and spread it out.

When they spread it out and play loose we score.  Running nothing for 20 seconds and then running horns has not worked since Benimon and won’t work.  Why did we shoot 14 threes in the first half?! Against an average and lose footed Delaware team. And most of them were Tunstall and gray threes (man that dude couldn’t shoot his way out of a paper bag) Bay Area I thought you said he was good?!

Need 2 wins against d1 teams to avoid the play in game. Will it happen?

UDEL board stated they sold out about 95% of their tickets for the game tonight. Crowd may be a factor but im confident they are going to get back into the groove here. Look for Sanders to come back relevant

Was just about to say... is this thing on?!  Crickets before a HUGE game.

Saw this too.  Good for the CAA to show a packed house on a weeknight TV game.  They are definitely going to be looking for revenge after the game earlier this year and last year at the BOB. Dislike the travel partners for these 2 games as if they are a weekend, I go to both Del and Drexel. Will need to settle for just Saturdays.

Regardless of of what you think the future holds, gotta admit this team has improved dramatically from start of year. Question is have we seen them peak? I hope not! But it’s been fun to watch as of late!

Agree as well.  Going off the past years under this regime, we are in the downturn of the Skerry Cycle.

Hopefully we get one more shot at him in March to go to the NCAA tournament....

Dude can flat out score. Will end his career top 1-2 in CAA history. Surprised he didn't transfer after last, if he graduated. Was only only recruited by Charleston, Cleve State, FIU and Hofstra. Averaged 30 a game as a senior. Didn't we have a kid like that here...?

Maybe we can recruit this guys?

Extinguished?  Ummm, we're only 1 out of the logjam for first and who's to say that another 4 or 5-game streak isn't on the horizon?  Yeah, it's not helpful that we haven't beaten Hofstra and got swept by Charleston but there's way too much basketball left to be counting ourselves out.

I'll be very happy to never have to play against Riller again.  Probably a good thing I couldn't see or hear anything about that game today other than following score updates from the course.

5 of 7 on the road. Tiebreaker with Charleston gone. Prolly Hofstra too. Come on. Be realistic

  12. Didn’t get into a flow offensively in this one. A bad three point shooting team shot lights out. That along with the best scorer in the conference doing whatever he wanted hurt.

Thought pat went to the bench to quickly in the first half (before the first media). Starters were playing good at that point.

Refs didn’t help with awful Ticky tack calls on us all day and nothing on Charleston. Miller and Riller extend their arms and hook on lots of drives and post ups. Can’t foul 3 point shooters something we haven’t done recently. The last from dottin on Riller wasn’t close. But can’t put the refs in the position to call that.

Jailbirds 3, with 4 left on the shot clock, after we cut it to 2 and they ran nothing for the entire possession was the back breaker. If that doesn’t bounce around all over and go in we would have won that game.

Expect for the fact that UNCW hasn’t invested in the resources needed to compete for titles. No practice facilities or nutrition station.   Are they paying  COA? Their 12 fans on the message boards are passionate, but is the administration?

It’s a lot more than 12 fans. They had a good student section back in the day when they weren’t good and we certainly weren’t either.

I don’t know about the other two but they obviously do as they have fired coaches mid season before.. that’s not cheap to do. They have the benefit of it being their sport. No football to mess with.

Bigger problem is the caa. Vcu mason odu ncaa money has dried up. Only getting 1 unit each year hurts. Looking at a 14-15 this year doesn’t help. Lack of tv deal hurts too. It’s been downhill since Yeager left (shocking to say that!)

Good win, some will call it ugly.  But to get contributions from others when Betrand struggled and Fobbs had a slow first half--3 points--yet they still managed a comfortable margin most of the way.

I think Burke is great not only for UNCW but for the league.  He is possibly the most animated and positive coach I've seen on the sideline in a long time.  We got to speak to the UNCW AD for a few minutes before the game, and he seems to be a big fan of what he's done so far and the changes he's made in the practice routines and culture.  I hope they keep him.

The early onslaught of threes was unexpected but played a huge role in allowing them to keep the energy up on defense as well.   Really like the season Sanders is turning in, he can hold his own underneath with just about anyone in the league.  And has been mentioned the play of both Gibson and Timberlake if it can continue on the upside, could really spell some good things over the next few years.

I hope they don't! He seems like a real good players coach. Recruiting for him is a ?  But the players have responded to him 2-2 against the upper teams, is a good sign for him.

Bench played well yesterday  Dottin with 7 points on 2 threes! and 3 assists 0 turnovers in 11 minutes is good.  His defense will be needed tomorrow
