  1. Another extended coach, underachieving...I kid, I kid (sort of).  I was going to ask the question the other day, but don't know much about situation. The top players are back, and lost to 2 of the "bottom teams" at home over the weekend.  I knew we were going to repeat, JMU is really good, but damn.

Totally agreed with his inability to let 3 point shooters work within his program.  We have a guy like Four who was unable to get open shots.  We bring in a guy like Gray who is a stretch 4 that should be able to get and make open shots to stretch the floor and its just not happening.  I am hoping these guys are starting to gel a bit more.

I've always thought PS has done a good job developing players year over year.  Looking at Bennimon from his year sitting out to his next year, Morsell, Zane, Sanders (this year) and now Betrand.

That is his "offensive system" though. No one is moving or cutting with a purpose. It's lots of standing around and ball screens. We rarely screen for the screener or screen away from the ball.

Playing devils advocate, more don't develop than do.  Benimon was a beast in his sit out year. Morsell and Zane took steps forward from fresh to soph years, but they were brought along slowly and don't play many minutes as a freshman, where then the stats look better the next year when they play more. We're still looking for someone to develop into an alpha and big time scorer. It seems like they hit a ceiling after 2 years.  Now, obviously you cant judge zane and gorham because they left but.

    20 - 80 is 25% for clarification.

Crickets when we win verification- 45 replies on the loss, 14 on the win....

Could it be possible that there is more to say and dissect after some losses/blown leads against quality teams, rather than a close ugly win against one of the worst teams in all of college hoops? I didn't get to watch this game, had to track it on my phone, which was nerve racking at the end. Following along on Twitter is easy as you know what is happening. No recent updates= something bad is happening. HAHA.

I am definitely someone who has been posting more on losses than wins, atleast this season. Just not excited from what I see vs. earlier in non conference. Hoorah for a win against a now 0-4 team.. Ill be back if we beat Del.

Again, to both, people, myself included, complain more than celebrate. It's the way it is.  Now if we go 3-1 in the next 4, (could happen, but not likely), that'll show us something

And TUTigers2012, don't you dare try to loop me into that line of thinking you have about old guard people here bowing down to Skerry and Ambrose.  They're certainly not above criticism and if you cycle back to after the Hofstra game when I wrote out that long post (that you agreed with btw), that's my version of criticism.  I see zero need like some to flat out call for firings.  No decisionmakers are reading this and taking our opinions under consideration in regards to that.  So why waste the bandwidth?  I'll stick to commenting about what I see/hear on the field/court and if strategy/personnel moves need to be critiqued negatively, I'll still be jumping in to do that.  But to label me as one of those who in your mind finds those two coaches beyond reproach is wrong.

I call it like I see it. Just like you do. Just like 88. Just like Mat. Just like sr16. Criticism from fans, is just that, Criticism. There are always going to be fans and fan-bases that want changes and ones  that are happy. I know you can tell which ones are winning and which are not. We have been on the later too many times before.

On another note, I like Betrand's recent aggressiveness taking it to the hoop. We need more of that. Yes, we don't finish well through contact or get many calls anymore. But our odds are obviously much higher there than jacking up 3's.

A concern has been the amount of 3's taken recently. Since DC tournament we have been, 6-20, 9-31 1-11 6-19, 7-28, 5-14: 34-123= 27.6% made

2's we are 103/213 which is a decent 48.4%    37% of our shots should not be 3's.  Need better quality of 3's not the quantity.

i get the negativity of getting rolled by N'Eastern (awful game)....and losing to HOF & COC; sucks to start 0-3.  BUT - they DID just win a league game on the road, thought there might be a few more positive notes on the game; yikes!  (like  - I  agree with this board and wished they pressed and ran more; but - pounding the opp on the boards by a dozen aint a bad thing, nor is Betrand startin to show some consistency ).    i'm starting to realize the negative-nancys aint going away til the coach (and AD) are fired or a BigDance tix gets punched; but until then (and that might be awhile as has been discussed, a lot), dont blink cause they might actually have a chance to win a few games in a row here.....  maybe someone will crack a smile or clap their hands then?                                 Bring on the Dragons ..........

A win is a win. Nothing has changed with this team or program so there’s not much to say

it was great that we pounded a small and bad rebounding team on the boards. It’s what we are supposed to do. It probably should have lead to a wider margin.

The Skerry regime has brought us a number of good players, but rarely those who can lead. PG’s are usually your leaders, and he’s been abominable at recruiting them. His best PG was 6-8 and had a cup of coffee in the league. His juco PGs have been a failure. Without a good leader (PG), we’ll continue to underachieve. We’re just 5 guys on the court, not a TEAM. He’s either not recruiting the right guys and/or not coaching them. I must admit that for all his struggles, Gibson at least has the look of potential.

    This is all true

not sure what is more depressing... the current state of this program or that it won’t get better for atleast 8 more years. No end in sight

I know this isnt the same.. But just saw Miss St fired their football coach after 14-12 (2 seasons) w/ 2 bowl appearances. If only

Just think, if the Ole Miss kid didn't fake piss in the endzone, Ole Miss maybe wins the game and goes to a bowl. Matt Luke isn't fired and thus not at UGA. Lane Kiffin doesn't get the Ole Miss job. If he doesn't fake piss Miss State doesnt make a bowl game and thus doesn't lose the bowl game and maybe just maybe keep Joe around.. wild

TUTigers2012, you’re absolutely spot on about your “who would want to coach here” thoughts. I’d be happy to be a lily pad for a coach to move onto a bigger program, after making us a success. If that means we were used, than in the immortal lyrics of Bill Withers “I want to spread the news that if it feels this good getting used, you just keep on using me until you use me up.”

I'd much rather be a springboard than giving 8 year long extensions to a coach with a .500 career record, that isn't being poached by bigger programs...

-Decent academics on both ends of the spectrum CHECK

    -Newer arena CHECK

    -Pays competitively CHECK

-East coast city, 3 hours from NYC and Richmond with Philly DC and NJ sandwiched in between for recruiting CHECK

-Currently no other local teams to compete with CHECK (Not counting the twerps)

-Close enough for most players families to come to a good amount of games CHECK

-Decent conference that should allow for opportunity to make dance and play as a 12-14 seed CHECK

-No real job pressure except from 10-15 posters on TowsonFans.com CHECK

Another poster has stated it but you should want your coach to leave for a better program. That means you've had success and its proven to be a launching pad job for another hungry young coach to come in. If that coach fails you can get rid of them after the initial shorter contract or better yet they could succeed and move on too. That ridiculous extension by Tim has to be one of the worst in the history of the NCAA. By the time it is over will have 15 years of ineptitude under one regime (30+ years total), no public interest, and no more new attractive arena.

That's called being a successful mid major, and I've been saying that for a while. Your'e a farm system. Look at JMU football, VCU hoops, UNCW (not Moss and current regime, but with Cheatin' Keatts and Brownell), NDSU football. Yes we aren't at their level but they continue the success with the next young hungry coach.  The lame excuse of "who else would want to coach there/who would we even get?"  That's bullshit, we aren't a 1-31 program playing in the towson center, or a program in the middle of bum-fuck. If you think that people wouldn't come to Towson now, what do you think of the "messiah" Skerry, when he walked into that mess?  Crazy right?

There are always crickets when the team is winning because you're 100% right in the fact that people in today's world would rather be negative/pessimistic about things to make themselves feel better/smarter.  I hate coming on this board when we lose because everyone is a know it all and makes it incredibly personal.  I feel like the majority of the posters would rather be right than the programs being successful.

I disagree. We all want them to win. If they go on a 22-0 run and make the NCAA's, I'd be happy to eat my words and would be the first on line to buy tickets to the NCAA's. Shit give Pat another a year or two. The problem is we have scene little to no progress for 5+ years now. Everything is the same, and moral among fans is low.

Personally, I’d love to be optimistic and upbeat, but when the basketball team has a winning percentage just a little above 33% for over two years now, it’s virtually impossible to be so. Doesn’t make me feel one bit smarter or better about myself when we lose. All it makes me feel is frustrated.

I’d be happy to be wrong and the programs successful.

Come on don't live in the past. We have a 35.7% winning percentage this year.!🤣

And truth be told, as a football & basketball season ticket holder, and a donor to the TAF, I believe I’ve paid for the right to be critical, in view of the performance of the basketball team over the last 2+ years. So, forgive me for being disappointed in mediocrity and wanting better

You have every right to. After 2 good years with Benimon and Co, we have been at best mediocre. Same for the football program. It is UNACCEPTABLE, especially with coaches on their 2nd and 3rd contract extensions with a decade + tenure.

Historically this is where skerry teams might win 6 of 8 or so. We'll hear on the post game that we're right in the thick of things, have a shot. Then stumble down the stretch and a first round exit. Next year they'll be so-so in the out of conference schedule, some reason for optimism. Then fall face flat again at the start of conference play.

Ok, we’ll lose them all so everyone will be excited and we’ll have more threads about the last 2+ years. Or we’ll go 2-1 and there will be crickets.

I'm going to say this and you'll disagree, but, like it or not, people in today's world typically have a negative/pessimistic attitude towards things. Losing brings out the passion and anger in fans, especially for ones who rarely if ever have a winning team.  I can assured you if we would have gone 2-1 in the first 3 games, there wouldn't be crickets. Those teams are solid/good but they aren't the old ODU/Mason/VCU teams of the past. If we go 2-1 against the next 3, there may be crickets, depending on how the games are played and won. If we blow them out I think people here would be impressed, as that is a rarity.  Chances are we are up in 1 or so late, and yack up the lead. Maybe we win, maybe we don't. But that isn't pessimism, that's using a large sample size, as a fact, from this year, and years past.

I wasn't criticizing you I was just making my opinion on the next three based on how this team has played recently.  I know you were speaking in general terms but please do not include me in the "everyone" as I have not spoken or mentioned the last 2+ years.  I'm sure I am like others who visit the site often in that I read the post but always hesitate to respond or post because I do not want my opinions to be ripped or responded with sarcasm.   Being grouped with some on here that you can basically predict their responses reaffirms my hesitations.

Nothing against you Blazer or to the others who have gotten their feelings bent out of shape on here, IT'S AN ONLINE FAN MESSAGE BOARD. People are going to bitch, complain, name call, etc. Its not unique to just us here. Our football and mens hoops programs have underachieved for so long, it's extremely frustrating. If it was just the content crowd of fans here, it would be boring. If it was just the angry and bitching crowd of fans here, it would also be boring.

Some positives in the first 3 conference games. Overall we are +1 in rebounding, 37/48 from the line (77%), have held teams to 42.4% from the field and 34.3% from 3. In the last 5 games we have held teams to 70.8 points in regulation.

Bay Area Tiger, if I were piling on, I’d point out that since 12/20/27, a span of 68 games, we are 24 W’s vs 44 L’s. I would further point out that in his last 68 games, PK, (when the CAA still had ODU, JMU, GMU & Georgia State as members) was 17-51. Thus, Skerry’s record the last 2+ seasons is marginally better than the dumpster fire coach who he took over from.

I would also point out we’ve lost 8 conference games in a row.

Come on 88. 22-44 over 66. Those d3/naia games aka “the skerry specials” don’t count

Great job by the new W&M coach. Nice pick up in Van Vliet from Wisconsin and Knight is still Knight. But guess what? Unlike Shaver, he actually has the team playing defense and rebounding more so maybe they did the right thing.

I don't what you mean by three already. The brothers went home (either Florida or Africa for the break). It's not time to fold the ship yet after losing to three very good teams. Now lose to UNCW, Drexel and Delaware (should at least go 2-1), then as Michael Ray Richardson once said, "The ship be sinking."

Tony didn’t win the big one and they axed him. Laycock was old and stale too. We need a Samantha Huge at Towson. An AD with a vision who wants to win.

the ship is sunk. Every year we suck to start go 2-5 or something. Win a couple in the middle then “peak” and stumble across the finish line. It’s the pat skerry circle that we’ve been stuck in for 6 years now.

I think it’s very odd that players on the team aren’t present. Sure give them a week or so off for the holidays. They are redshirting and should be practicing every day. Pat has been strict with players like this in the past, and when they weren’t there... well you know. I find it very fishy

  16. “Same stuff”. Great, way to inspire them Pat! Now 5-9 on the season and 22-44 since the extension.  Pks last 66 games was 17-49. Let that sink in...

Who wants to take bets on who the next player is the quits/gets booted? We lost 1 possibly 3 already. Winner gets a beer at the Arena. Another game holding a team below 42 and 34 shooting. Another double digit loss.

someone look at the Wm Hofstra box score. Yikes. Wm has a rookie head coach and just beat them by 27. Twenty freaking seven on the road.
