Again, as so many have stated before, it is the job of the administration to come up with ways to get folks in the stands. That is why we have so many administrators making 6 figure salaries. They just have not done their job. The fact is that it is a hard thing to do at Towson, that is getting folks in the stands. Maybe that tells you where the student body wants to prioritize or in fact deprioritize sports. Instead, we just keep paying administrators more and more to not improve the situation. Don't blame the coaches for the extensions and salaries. If an adminstrator is willing to throw these numbers out, all the coach is doing is taking it.

Based on our funding and fund raising, the America East is a better fit.

    Agree with your first point.

But America East would increase travel costs. Some of those schools are a haul.

Attendance at Morgan last night was 3,789; capacity is 4,200. This on a Wednesday night, where the home team came in with a record of 3-6.

SECU is in its 7th year. In the 1st season, 2013-14, we had 4 crowds that exceeded the attendance at Morgan last night. Since then, only 1 time, in 2/15, vs Delaware, have we had a home attendance higher than what Morgan had last night

"announced" attendance.  I was there and there was no way in hell that there were only 400 empty seats... And 1/3 of people didn't show up until HT

Better get used to seeing more pressure. That’s how they beat us last year at the Baltimore Arena.

They handled it pretty well. Pat's moved the 4 and 5 all the way down the court as to not bring any other defenders up near the half court line.  Our guys are still running to sharp of a line to the corner on the catch though. They need to flatten it out a little.

Play of the game was the roll play from Fobbs to Sanders that got the and-1 to move the lead from 5 to 8.  Up to that point, we hadn’t been doing anything right on offense and Morgan looked like they were going to get all the way back.  After that, we got back to more of an open floor on offense and we locked them down defensively.  Morgan isn’t the highest caliber but they still provide an element that gives us trouble and it exhibited to Gibson and Thompson that there are gonna be struggles out there.

For those who watched the Morgan feed, did it feel like we were listening to announcers from the And 1 Summer Tour?  Their confusion over the flop warning was especially entertaining.

I was there and the fans were equally confused and upset about it. There was no announcement made over the PA, but it was one of their better calls of the night.

The Sanders And-1 was huge. A really nice move by him. He actually looked under control for the most of the night.

I thought Sanders was the key to the W; when he was on the floor, the offense was just better. Tunstall had a “quiet” 13 points & 10 boards, & Betrand continues to impress. Meanwhile, Fobbs had a highlight reel posterization dunk.

On the other hand, for the 1st time, I thought Gibson looked a little overmatched.

Agree with all you said. Loved them playing through Fobbs, he made some good passes and decisions with the ball. Also liked them posting up Betrand on the smaller defenders, has a Mike Morsell-ish lanky-ness to him and finished pretty well down low and in the mid range. But the key was, that he was confident.  Tunstall had a great game, I could have sworn he had more than 10 boards. He blocked more shots than what was in the official box score. Had to play big minutes with the other 3 bigs in foul trouble. It helps that Morgan doesn't have a big bruiser and their only serviceable big was in sanders like foul trouble.

Towson was tied 32-all with Morgan State with 2:21 left in the first half and went on a 7-0 run to close the half. They took a 7-point lead in the second half and extended it to 18 at 50-32 with 15:57 left. That's when the Bears went on a 13-0 run of their own, but the Tigers staved off the comeback attempt and won the local rivalry, 76-69.

First to the quotes from Skerry on postgame on 1300am

"We did a pretty good job to go zone. Our man to man was better in the second half. Wasn't good earlier. We got out in transition. Nice plays. Our seniors played very well. "

"Our guys remember we gave one away last year (against Morgan in Baltimore). Good crowd. I liked our poise in stretches. We had a bit of a lull."

"We've seen some flashes of high-level play when the ball is really moving. We need to continue to do that." "Sanders was good. Dennis played really well. Fobbs was really good. Six assists to two turnovers. The shot will fall. Allen has made a jump."

    The Good

Defense forced 18 turnovers. We don't press. We haven't really used a zone press much this season. But when Gray and Tunstall were in during a brief time in the first half in the zone defense, we were forcing turnovers and getting out on transition. The Brian Fobbs' dunk in transition was a thing of beauty. Fobbs had six assists. We outrebounded the Bears by 10 and shot 7 of 17 from three-point range. Betrand went 3 of 4 from three-point and scored 17 points. Sanders was big with 5 of 6 from the field, 13 points and six rebounds. Tunstall had 13 pts, 10 rebs and 2 blocks.

    The Bad

Gibson just 0 for 3 from the field and 0 for 3 from 3pt in 21 minutes with 2 turnovers and 1 assist. Look a bit scared to drive against a pretty good shotblocker and quicker defenders. Even Dottin couldn't get to the rim or at least didn't try. The 13-0 run by Morgan State was Towson at it's worst. Bad shot selection, bad fouls, not taking it to the basket. Settling for bad shots. Once they started getting it inside to Sanders, the offense calmed down. Our halfcourt offense still has a ways to go.

    The ugly

Bench had just 16 points. Thompson played 17 minutes but went 1 for 4 from the field. Did have three boards and two offensive but still struggles at times to finish underneath. When Sanders stays out of foul trouble, Thompson won't see as much time but he's going to be good once he learns how to finish better. It wasn't a great night for him and Gibson as freshmen. Gray played just 10 minutes because he picked up two very quick fouls in the second half. Once was a bad foul and another was as ticky tack as you can get. He had 7 points in 10 minutes. No reason why he shouldn't play 20 minutes with that soft touch from 3-point and he is shooting 50% from beyond the arc. Timberlake looked good in the first half and then in the second half, struggled with a bad turnover on a double-clutch in the air. Missed some open looks. Had one decent drive and was fouled. Then proceeded to miss two FTs. When he and Betrand are playing well on both ends, this team will be tough to beat in the CAA, but they have to be more consistent. Nick is just coming back off an injury this year and last year. He's basically a freshmen with about 14 games of action and it showed tonight.

But enough of the bitching. It was a quality win on the road with nearly 4,000 people at Hill Field House. I've seen a lot of good wins and bad losses there. Decided not to go. Should have but stream was fine. Actually a solid production from Morgan State. Much tougher game coming up at Vermont on Saturday night and then I'll certainly be there against UMBC on Tuesday.

nearly 4,000?!? ESPN lists that place as holding 4,250. I would say 2,500-3,000. No way it was that close to capacity.

Nick's 2 FT's looked and came off very badly. But would like to see a defensive lineup of Him, Dennis, Betrand, Dottin and Thompson. Best D Lineup when a stop is needed.

  7. Nice win. Morgan can't shoot but did run some nice cuts and backdoor plays. We typically always play down to their level and its a very close game. There was definitely some suspicious officiating which lead to a long game with all of the FT's, at least they didn't have any real long review. Was sitting right across from Sanders when he got mugged. How that was a jump ball might be the worst call I've seen in person.  No play made on the ball and just chucked him.

As critical as I am with Pat, he did a very good job tonight switching defenses, into a little zone and lead to our big runs. They got their hands in passing lanes and got out on the break. Damn Timberlake can run!  Also liked that he put Gibson in at the end and went small when they were going to press.  Gibson, Dottin, Fobbs, Betrand and Sanders.

I'm in the minority but will say again, HATE playing these local teams.  It's big if they win and crappy if we lose. There's nothing to gain IMO on playing Morgan, especially there. Yes, we save on travel, and it's nice for me to go to some road games, but I just don't see the benefit.

Should be a good crowd I see some buzz on Twitter. You would think we would have a bus to transport students to and from a close game like this. I guess the city bus circulator is an option for students too.

Sorry, but someone has to say it... our students don't show up to a game on campus, they aren't going to go a few miles down the road.

I was baiting you and you took it.

Just think what an average coach could do with Tom. Any other program in the caa would be back to back playoffs. Rob can’t. He gets a pass from The 80s and 90s crew

If we are in this same situation next season and he's available (not likely), I would consider him. However, his record over the last three seasons is 10-26. The Virginia Beach area is one of the most fruitful recruiting areas in the nation. He couldn't get the job done at a lower-level FBS program (outside of the Virginia Tech win). Not sure he's much of an upgrade other than maybe he could bring in players from that area. He also had Taylor Heinicke when he had most of their success.

Or if you favor the hire, you could say he had great success in FCS and might not have been the right guy at the right time.

Meh. I'd look for a young and hungry assistant or successful coach from a smaller school.  ODU expects to win and doesn't accept mediocrity. Good for them.

Rob also had Terrance West when he had most of his success.

Going 5-3 in the CAA and 7-4 overall is likely to make the playoffs next season . Assuming they lose to Maryland, I would say Dartmouth is a must-win and they need to split with Richmond and Delaware. But Villanova is not an automatic loss. Let’s see what happens at the quarterback position before we throw out predictions about the schedule.

Maybe if the caa does something in the playoffs this year. Besides jmu, I don’t see that happening. Regardless a 7-4 and first round exit shouldn’t be what we are hoping for. If that’s the ceiling under the savior? Pass go 6-5 move on and get someone whose hungry and can recruit and develop players. And more importantly win big games. Or atleast beat partially scholly teams

There are people here who have been very noticeable by their absence in this thread that have an agenda that the coaches must go.  Doesn't matter how a loss happens, it's on the respective sport's coach.  It's the same BS every game and frankly, it's getting to the point where I'm beginning to re-evaluate my amount of participation on here.  It's tough to talk actual basketball when you have to tiptoe thru the minefield of 'fire coach x' and 'fire coach y'.  Was the Buffalo loss a choke job?  No doubt it was.  Is that on the coaching staff?  Not entirely.  They can't control a senior trying to play too fast instead of taking care of the ball and instead, he turns it over (Tunstall in a 7-point game).  They can't pass and move the ball against the press for the players.  At some point, the actual players on the floor have to execute.  But good on them for regrouping on Saturday and coming out and putting together a winning performance on Sunday nite.  I was on the road during the game so I didn't see or hear any of it but it does mean a little something when you hold down a team that put 90+ on the board against UCONN.

One other thing about the negativity -- I'm wondering if those same people stuck around to watch the Xavier-UCONN game that followed us on Friday night.  If they had, they would have seen BOTH teams make the exact mistakes at the end of regulation and both overtimes that we did in yakking the late lead.  Does that make Hurley and Steele awful coaches?

The next few games will serve as another progress report as we get ready to head to conference play.  Cornell just lost to Coppin but going to upstate NY is never easy.  Morgan always gives us a rock fight, especially at their place and they took Evansville (remember they beat Kentucky two weeks ago?) to triple OT on Sunday.  And then there's Vermont...that'll be a very tall test at their place.  If we can build off Sunday nite's win, I don't see any reason why we can get 2 out of 3 minimum in this next stretch.

I'm not going to comment on a game that I didn't see and been out of town.  Sounds like some changes were made and they played different groups of players, got their best shooter more than one shot, and pushed the tempo a little. That's good and changes  that we all would like to see to put them in better shape to win. Kudos to them bouncing back after what was probably a long 36+ hours of sitting around with the stench of the last 2 minutes of Friday.  I'm not going to hide when they win because it "doesn't fit my agenda." I'd rather be wrong then right, because that means they are winning.

It is Skerrys way or the highway, so the blame on him for the same mistakes for close a decade are absolutely reasonable.  We hardly if ever, come out of a time out with a good play or frankly any clue what we are doing.  Chris, your'e a basketball person, you know that it is true.  If it was 1 cycle of players, sure it could be more of a player problem than coaching. But we are 9 years in with 80+ different players with the same issues?? That's not just a random coincidence.

Bottom line is they won a game (after a tough defeat) against another lower level A10 team. A game that we should probably win and did. That is great. Now lets stop yaking up late game leads and win the 50/50 games and a few 40/60 ones.

It’s my fervent wish that there is a well heeled TU donor (or donors) out there, who is as fed up as I am, and buys him out. Now, back to reality-this ain’t LSU & he ain’t getting bought out. Belly up to the bar for another round (indefinitely) of the same mediocre, 7 win ceiling, dreck

I can’t afford much but will be willing to put in 10k to buy one of those jokers out.  These kids who complain about student fees, bitch about your money going to rob pat and a dumb lax program

that was a sh_tty way to lose.  but - did anyone expect to beat Buffalo ? (5pt dogs)  or Florida, or Xavier? (big Udogs in each)?  I'd assume will be a Udog again v St Joe, right?   it'd be nice to get one?; hell yeah.  but the negative-nancies plse back away from the cliff, lol.  take the pts (cha-ching!)

My problem with Tim Leonard is the following:

1, No increase in football and basketball attendance since he's been at Towson and enrollment has increased. In fact, student football attendance has really declined the last 3-4 years.

    2. We pay $450k to $500k for Pat Skerry and we get a middle of the pack CAA team with no post season appearances. At some point, we need to aim better. My hope is when is contract is up we do not renew it. East Coast/ Balto/DC is known for B-Ball not football. Should we spend more money to get better?

    1 he’s a pawn and Doesn’t do anything!
