  1. Mat I and others understand that. I’m not giving up on the players. Any team that can defend has a punchers chance. But like you said 1 on 5. It’s been this way since he took over.  It’s a culture problem. Stop recruiting  selfish and undisciplined players while running shit on offense. It’s so predictable that even bad and lazy coaches know what’s coming

Why is it that every other team can recruit atleast one player who can get his own (and a halfway decent shot), except us? Fobbs is pressing both inside and outside the arc.

Even if we had a team full of lebron James’ why are we waiting until 12 or less on the clock to have a big come out and catch a pass, with their back to the hoop, 4 feet beyond the 3 point line, from dottin?!?  That worked with Benimon but not now. WE CANT GET INTO OFFENSE THAT LATE  especially with our players

  2. Why is every skerry coached team out of control (taking wild and awful shots), out of position, and just plain awkward? The falling down, slipping, rushing shots, stepping out of bounds on long pivots, awkward fade aways, and driving  in to deep and getting blocked with ease is infuriating.  This team like every other of pats teams is selfish as all can be. You can get away with that with a riller, Roland, Knight, foreman, type of player but not with 8 role players.

They tried on defense and gave effort. Xavier was more physical the entire game. They also shot lights out which they haven’t done all year but was expected as they were due.

But it’s college hoops and our coach can’t run a good offense and can’t teach zone defense...

As I watch this game, I’m reminded of what a poor recruiter and in-game coach Pat Skerry is.  Our guys cannot create separation for decent shots and can’t finish at the rim.  Too many turnovers.  Fobbs is a huge fan of Fobbs.  He’s convinced he’s the only guy in the floor for Towson.

An ugly showing through the first 15 minutes.

That was awful. The offensive development and sets run has been awful for a decade now. They are a soft team and not good offensively. With those characteristics they will be eaten alive in the caa. But hey we still have the ncaa leader in assist to turnover ratio!

Well, it's early but it's not a bad thing if the league is better than expected. Every year, we hear about how great Delaware is and then they have a key injury or a transfer or a suspension. If they could avoid all the drama, they could be really good. You just wonder how good they could have been had Ryan Daly stayed. Maybe he made the right move to transfer to St. Joe's since he put up 30 on UConn about a week ago. Unlike Zane and Justin G., he stayed in his lane and (he actually passes the ball). Of course, he also has to stay in shape.

Eh, they usually aren't THIS good. The UAB transfer can freaking shoot it.   Daly left to go to St. Joes because his grandfather played and coached there, his dad played there (for Martelli) and his cousin is the DBO.  Kind of sucks for him that they fired Martelli. But Daly has the ultimate green light to chuck up shots this year. Averaging close to 20 a game!

JMU a good win at a very good ODU team last night. To bad the CAA just couldn't get one of those wins against Florida, OU, OSU, UVA, UNC.

  5. Our other transfer friends:

    Zane- 20.8 MPG   11.2 PPG   2.8 Rebounds 2.2 Assists  2.2 TO  1.4 Steals  Shooting 40.9% and 29.4%  UNM is 4-1

    Gorham- 11.7 MPG   4.7 PPG  2.3 Rebounds  .3 Assists 1.0 TO  0 Blocks   Shooting 55.6% and 50%.  Houston is 2-1

My worry (re Solly redshirting) is what happens if others go down with injuries? Obviously, he was going to be restricted whether he chose surgery or not, but I'm crossing my fingers that the injury bug leaves us alone for the rest of the year.

On another topic: Did anyone else notice that W&M hung with Oklahoma the entire game (in fact, they led for most of it) and that Knight was unstoppable? If he repeats that performance throughout the season he'll be the POY and the Tribe may finally get to the dance.

The CAA looks very good this year. Skerry and the team better learn to win close games sooner rather than later. It is going to be very competitive and each game and possession is going to be extremely important.

Delaware is 6-0 (5-0 against D1) And all of those D1 games were either road or neutral sites. Their two transfers are combining for 39 PPG 12.5 rebounds while shooting over 53%. Oh, they also have a 6'10 Nova transfer eligible after the Fall semester. Add those 3 to Allen and Anderson and they are one scary team.

WM 4-1 with a close road loss to OU. 3-0 on the road. Knight 21 & 11 tagging up with the 7' transfer from Wisconsin whose averaging 17 & 10, WM has a huge 1-2 punch. They have played very well with such high player turnover (they really return 1 player) and a brand new coach.

Charleston- 3-1 only loss was home to Oklahoma State (yes CAA teams can get good teams to travel them, they also have one against VCU later this year) Win at Marshall last night was nice. They still have Riller who seems like hes been there forever. He can reach 2,500 career points.

NE- 3-2 They have played a solid scehdule so far (BU, Harvard, Umass, ODU) and demolished poor Holy Cross 101-44 on the road in Worcester last night. That's a D3 game score... Jordan Roland is averaging 30.5 a game while shooting 62.8% 55.3% and 92%.  NO ONE can keep that up!  They are a veteran team with a great coach and most likely the ROTY in Tyson Walker

JMU- Has been solid but played some bad teams and some really good teams. They have a lot back and play a tough physical rebounding style like we do.

UNCW- looks better than I thought. Had a ton of roster turnover too.

Probably good for both the player and the team. We’re fairly deep up front, with Sanders, Thompson, Gray & Tunstall & this gives Solomon time to rehab and have 3 years of eligibility left.

We need Timberlake to come back so we can have depth in the backcourt

Hopefully 3 years of Thompson and little U and 2 of big U together make our front court dominant

Interesting to note that Xavier is shooting about as well from 3 to start the season as Florida was before they played against us.  They should have lost at home to Missouri State last week but the Bears couldn't get over the hump.  I can definitely see us getting 2 wins this weekend.  Where those 2 wins come from...well that'll be the fun part.

I'd take 2 wins and run to the bank...

Again, folks here continue to miss the point that our playoff resume is as good as anyone in the CAA or the country .

LOL. If we did, we would be a lock to be in.  Resume is suspect to say the least.  There are ways, granted very unlikely, that EWU and Chattanooga win their conferences with less than 7 wins shrinking the at large pool by 2.

How many times do I have to say this? It’s not a question of needing to win in a dominant fashion & then “hope” we get in. Let me try this one more time...Win Saturday (regardless of the score) and I Joe Willie Namath GUARANTEE we’re in.

And we haven’t had “playoff history”???? What the ham sandwich was the 2013 National Championship game???

    ENOUGH SAID ON THIS NON-ISSUE

One year with a win. One.   If we beat Elon, and Maine and Citadel lose, we would have beaten a grand total of 0 teams with a winning record. Yes, our losses have been to good teams.

There are 14 at larges. Take away 3 from MVFC and Big Sky, your'e down to 8. Nova and SEMO/Austin Peay, 6. Furman and SELA/Nicholls Loser, 4.  So yeah you would think a win and we would be in, but you never know...

18 minutes ago, FBS OR BUST said:

Attendance at playoff games have nothing to do with whether you get in or not.  Teams bid for home games, and whether you draw 50 or 50,000, the NCAA is getting whatever you bid.  My guess, Towson does not bid for a home game.  We will be on the road.

I would agree. We also play better on the road.

  11. 56 minutes ago, mat1992 said:

Funny, because that team was a lot better than this one. But they penalized us for playing two FBS teams and winning 7 games in a 12-game schedule despite going 5-3 in the league. That apparently wasn't enough, even though we annihilated UNH on the road without Dangerfield at the end of the season. Was in the locker room watching the selection show with the reactions and will never forget that as long as I live.

Again, there were only 20 teams in the playoffs in 2012. The MEAC also still sent their champ to the tournament then. So there were only 10 at larges instead of the 14 now. Not saying we didn't deserve it, because we did.  We were also 6-2 in Conference that year with two close losses.

Look at the coaches poll today, moved up just 1 again and got jumped by Austin Peay. (It also matters where your start, as poor Albany cant crack the top 25, coming in at 28.  Our logo doesn't say JMU, UNH, Blue Hens, or Richmond on it. We haven't had playoff history and laid an egg last year in the playoffs. All of this along with the last 2 home playoffs games with 2k in attendance, doesnt help. We need to dominant on Saturday and hope to jump in

  12. Obviously we need to win, and convincingly, to get in and good spot. Other games of interest:

Stony Brook over Albany- knocks Albany down to 7-5

Southern Utah over North Dakota- Knocks ND to 6-5

NDSU over SIU- Knocks SIU to 7-5 (FBS Win)

Kentucky over UT-Martin- Knocks UTM to 7-5 (2 FBS/SEC losses)

SELa over Nicholls St- Knocks Nicholls to 7-5 (2 FBS losses)

Murray State over SEMO- SEMO would go to 7-4 (8-4 but 1 Non D1 Win)

Eastern KY and J'State play each other, both are 6-5. J'State at 7-5 would be close to getting in off name recognition

Gardner Webb over Kennesaw -- Kennesaw is the team I see as stealing a bid from a CAA team. They play no one and with a win would be 8-2 (2 non D1 wins). Coaches poll loves them and have been ranked all year.

Citadel and Maine winning to go 7-5 would also help us if we win.

I'm not sure just stacking your schedule with the easiest games, avoiding an FBS game if you can, is still not the best strategy.  Who doesn't have sour feelings over the way we were treated by being left out of the 2012 playoffs.  Anyone who has been watching this program knows that that 2012 team was a special team.  Many believe it was better than the 2013 team, and that is not in any way an exaggeration.  Better than the team that went to the National Championship and the selection committee left that team out of the field of 24.  That 2012 team placed a 60 burger on New Hampshire at their place in the last game of the season and yet the committee put NH in the tournament and left us out.  Just a scandal.  They have the ability to make bad decisions.

I mention this because I do not think it is a lock by any means.  Even with a win, from what I read, there are only a few spots we can fit into when you take into consideration what teams most, analysts believe are in and/or who have easy last games.  There are not a lot of spots left barring some major upset.

If you look at the above site, it has us as the 6th best team in the country (that is what power rankings are supposed to do in terms of a measure that is equalizing everything).  This site explains its calculations at arriving at these rankings.  And yet if you go to their bracketology, they have us out of the playoffs.  Also take into consideration they have the Colonial as the best conference in the FCS.

    https://www.collegesportsmadness.com/article/17989

Believe me, the committee is more than capable of leaving us out and this wouldn't even be as an unfair as 2012.

Only 20 teams made it in 2012. Yeah..I'm starting to feel the same. The CAA was not good last year in the playoffs and that, along with our huge laid egg, can hurt us.  The fact that the bubble teams in the conference are Towson and Albany, makes it easier for the "committee" to leave out. If the same schedule, record and results were attached to the Blue Hen, UNH, or Richmond logo, those teams would already be in.

The fact that we have played Maine, Albany and Nova, hurts as well, due to the unwritten "no rematch in the first round."

What? I thought he never won a close game? I guess those 53 wins were insignificant.

Never said we don't, just that we lose/choke away more than we win. And again, I said that after going through the games, I was very surprised we won so many of those.

I really think it's about the players. Not saying it has nothing to do with x's and o's but it's not 100%. Basketball is about recruiting. Even Bill Coen needs a Pusica to win a title. He also gets long bigs to help his defense and rebounding. His teams are well-coached but it helps to have a really good point guard run the show. In this league, it's all about GUARDS.

But Skerry has had rough recruiting years and it showed. Jeff Prophete? Disaster. J.J. Mathews? Didn't work out. Zane leaves. Gorham leaves. McNeill? Thomas? The last two years? Timberlake, Betrand, Dottin, Gibson, Solomon and Thompson. Also add Gray, Mims, Sanders and Victor as transfers. (Obviously, too soon to tell on Nick and Solomon due to injuries, but they have some talent). You can see the improvements Betrand made from Year 1 to Year 2 and Dottin, who is taking care of the ball and dishing out more dimes. Gibson couldn't finish last night but was getting in the lane against Florida and not just settling for long jumpers. Now, he has to drive and kick out. Remember, the kid also missed nearly two weeks of practice after banging heads with Betrand in practice.

Most on here know PS is not perfect. Who is? Coen is not available. A lot of people on here love Tony Shaver. I like his offense. Won a lot of games. Didn't win the big one. Now gone. We're actually beginning to play more like W&M than early Towson. More ball movement, bigs that can shoot (Gray), decent shooting point guard. Ok, not there yet, but it seems as though we're finally adapting to today's game and not playing like Pitt when Jamie Dixon was there.

I don't think anyone disagrees with you. But good, or adequate coaching is needed. And recruiting at this level? EH, it's about finding the diamonds in the rough and developing them. Something we have not been able to do to well, and gone the JUCO route a lot. THANK GOD! IVE BEEN SAYING FOR YEARS THE CAA IS ABOUT GUARDS. Not bludgeoning people to death on the boards. Since JJ Barea wont the POTY in 05-06 every POTY was a guard besides Benimon and Ryan Pearson.

That was a fun watch yesterday.  Last time I saw that kind of effort against a power school was the Oregon State game on the road.

Look..  we are Towson...  always something seems to come..  no Howard this season.  That being said I thought our defense looked so much better from past 2 seasons.  I love seeing Neal on the bench and rubbing off some of his Spurs experience.

Crazy that Gibson is Crowley’s nephew...  Dan was a freshman same time as me and a winner.

Charles Thompson is gonna be a good one.

End of first half getting 3 stops and then no points on the offensive end really hurt us.  30-30 instead of maybe 34-30.

And then the last minutes of game..  just didn’t run the right plays for Fobbs to get closer to the basket.

We are way past moral victories as it is 2019 and we’ve been waiting since 1991.

I’ve always loved Pat on the sidelines and the energy he brings.  This is a solid 2019-20 team that better win 18 games or else.

Again I enjoy all the comments.  We are such a small group of fans that actually cares about Towson Basketball.

I liked what I saw yesterday so I expect us to make a deep run in the CAA or else this season...

    Go Tigers!

    Is Jason really? Ugh.

Some may be past moral victories, but more are not, including the AD, department and others.
