Great opening night win, no doubt about it.

Apologies if this has already been discussed in recent postings leading up to the season, but are in agreement that it's a make-or-break season for Skerry?  Make "The Big Dance" or find a new HC?

    Go Tigers!!

HAHAHAHA. Yes, except we have no money to buy him out.  Some here won't mind yet another underachieving team at 16-15 and a first round exit in the CAA tournament.

Agree or disagree with me, these are the facts:

-He has underachieved with too much talent

-The CAA has been down and still have not made it the the Championship

-Had a brand new arena to recruit with

-No "signature win"  Oregon state turned it around, but who have we beaten that we "shouldn't have"?

-115-106 career record if you take out the 1st year

    -2-6 in CAA tournaments (again without his first year)  9 vs 8 L,  5 vs 4 L,  3 vs 6 W,  3 vs 2 L,  3 vs 6 L,  9 vs 8 L,  2 vs 7 W,  2 vs 3 L.    It isn't like the are 1-8 matchups.  Some of those were in Baltimore too.

Lots of positives tonight. I thought the PG play was really good-think they had 7 assists combined, with few if any TO’s. Gibson was Mr. outside, draining three 3’s, Dottin was Mr. inside, scoring on a couple of drives to the basket. The game was not too big for Gibson at all, & I think he held his own on D. Loved Gray’s game. Nice combo of athleticism and ability to hit the 3. He seemed to have a really good court sense.

Betrand was impressive. When I saw the team practice back during the summer, my takeaway was that Betrand might be poised to make a big improvement from his freshman to sophomore year. For 1 night at least, I was right.

Typical Tunstall game-7 boards and a couple baskets for good measure, including 2 dunks. Thompson missed some good close looks at the rim, but will only get better. 6 boards & 6 points is fine with me.

Nice to have the luxury of a double digit W when Fobbs only scores 12 points, though I think he had 5 assists & 5 boards.  Was surprised Solomon U. was a non-factor tonight.

When Sanders & Timberlake come back, we’ll have a nice 10-man rotation. Neither were on crutches or in a walking boot, so hopefully they’ll both be back sooner than later. Overall, an intriguing combination of size, athleticism (4 dunks tonight, that I recall) and a few guys (Gray, Fobbs, Gibson, Betrand & hopefully Timberlake) who can shoot the 3.

Howard was not in uniform or on the bench in street clothes = more minutes & opportunities for Betrand & Howard going forward

It was nice to spread the floor, shoot pretty well, and have guys drive without the paint being clogged!  Jamion Christian brings his "Havoc" defense, and while it was game 1 and they showed it a decent amount, they were still raw with it and a lot of new faces out there. Really liked how we handled the pressure for the most part.

Gray looked good, he hasn't played a D1 game in a year+. A guy like we haven't had before, who can stretch the floor and go inside a bit if need be.

Freshmen looked good. As did Betrand who played with confidence. I bet not having Howard and Timberlake on the bench, helped his game as he knew Skerry wouldn't take him out with one mistake.

Did we only take 1 TO the entire game?! And that was due to Gibson cramping up late in the game.

Winning against an A10 team (no matter how bad) by double digits without 3 key players is great!  Add on Fobbs had a pedestrian offensive game, makes it even better.  GW fans were upset they had to play a lowly CAA team on the road the start the season. And they were 6.5 point underdogs.

Guys, I can't be too specific about TJ. That's why you should join the chat during each game. I can say things that I can't say here because it will be deleted as soon as the game ends. Maybe I'll even have one for Friday's game. But he was on the roster in the game notes and not on the bench. So sure, no injury. No illness. I think you can guess the deal. Will he be back? Time will tell but as Bill Belichick might say, "we're on to Bryn Athyn".

Some were saying addition by subtraction with TJ, whatever the situation is, he was a decent shooter.  Him, Gibson, Fobbs, Gray all on the court in tight games for FT shooting would have been nice.

Here are the same ones that I keep saying, mostly in regards to game-day/facilities:

I know some are not feasible, but they are a dream.

-Better food options (especially at SECU)  Coming from work and the only options are hot dogs and cold pizza? Come on!

-Bring back the lounge with food and beers at SECU

-Better music, graphics, and PA at events. Please update! They are old, corny and not good.

-Play highlights on the big screens before the game, from the previous game(s), instead of the stupid "whose who at TU?!"  Play recordings of the players/coaches practicing and or speaking so we get to know them better.

-Stop the outdated "ITS TIME TO HEAR THE ROAR IN BALTIMORE!" In front of 4K at Unitas and 900 at SECU

-Move the students back to the visitors side at SECU.  Why are the few that are there on the home side?! (I know why, but...)

    -Give out of town scores

-Better giveaways for students and regular fans

-"Family deals"  4 tickets, 4 hot dogs, 4 drinks and 4 Towson hats, $50

-Do what the Orioles do, Kids Cheer Free.  The money off of the parents tickets, plus food and drink and a souvenir is worth it.

-Paint the seats Black. The gold looks awful in the lower level, this was the biggest blunder of SECU design/construction

-Remove the track and move the scoreboard closer.

-Sell Premium tailgate parking on the open side of the stadium. Around 20-25 cars, where they can pull up behind the endzone (where the scoreboard is) and park and tailgate all game.

-Easier in and out of Auburn Drive, especially for football games/tailgating.

-Besides the first home game of the football season, try and schedule them all for 3:30.

SECU did bring beer upstairs. Cowboys and Rednecks Bar downtown had Coors $3, Blue Moon $4 and Spiked Arnold Palmers $4 (Cash only, no food).

Like Unitas Stadium, they are selling Chick Fil A sandwiches and chips at a concession stand in the arena.

Music and graphic were much better last night than in years past.

Obviously, a key is to get more students involved - there's been a number of comments about that  ….. but I've always thought they should be giving away a lot of tickets , to all games, throughout the community. Rec leagues, high schools, churches. scout troops, etc. Let the parents see what a great value TU sports can be, and hopefully cultivate some fans ….. young and old.

This. Hence my "Kids Cheer Free" and family pack idea.

I’m interested to hear why he got asked to leave the team. Could be anything at Towson. Anyone on here a current student? What’s the reason he got the boot?

Back in my day, a TU basketball player pointed a gun at someone(also on the team) over $25 he was owed.

You are to young for Ric Brown

Stay away.  Stay farrrrrr away.  Gotta give it a couple of games to really get the feel of anyone.  However, 2nd half plays aren't necessarily a bad idea if you've been able to watch the first half and can make an impression of what you've seen versus what the line is.

I meant this is a hopefully a good/evenly matched opening game for Towson.  It isn't Duke where we get steamrolled nor is it Brynn Anthe who we will steamroll.

Hell I'll take the under every time under Skerry, even without knowing what it is.

Why the hell is GW opening AT Towson?

Unlike last year where McNeil was the only returning player of significance, Towson brings back virtually everyone on their team (29th nationally in minutes continuity), and while McNeil was a rotation player, he might have been the worst shooter they had so it might help them that his eligibility has expired.

LOL Both of those made me laugh.

We've benefited from our high early ranking. Stony Brook, with a win over Nova and an OT loss to JMU, is barely receiving votes. Albany doesn't even merit that status even though they beat us thoroughly. This may be the year where so many CAA teams knock each other off that -- if it continues -- only Madison gets in to the playoffs.

It matters where you start. caa will get 4 in. And a caa team (one up north that we hate) will get in with 7 wins, because they only play 11.

There are just so many average and bad teams in the fcs. So many 5 to 7 team wins who have tough games left. If we would have beaten Albany and won out 9-3 would have probably gotten us 7 or 8 seed.

I agree you need to turn the students into fans and then hope they come back as alums and purchase season tickets. It’s a fun game day atmosphere when the students show out, but it needs to be a consistently big deal every week to go to the games. In my years at Towson, the Greek Life dominated the social scene so I would start by going to all of the fraternities and sororities and giving them a case of beer and asking them to come to the games and ask for their feedback as to what they would like to see at the tailgate...what they think of the game day promotions and in-game music/giveaways. One issue I see with the student tailgate is that most college students are broke and don’t have a car, grill, or funds for a parking pass every weekend. I think the school should have food trucks and brewery craft beer stands in the parking lots. Then all they need to ask is that people show up because the party’s already there. no tailgate prep required. The Towson students go uptown to the bars every single weekend. Partying is on their agenda so we need to make the pre game festivities a fun atmosphere and really just leave them be to drink and have a good time.

Obviously this will require funds, but there should be a T-shirt or some type of giveaway incentive at every home game. Like i said before, most college students are broke so as an 18-22 year old with no job you will definitely make the trip to the stadium for a free t-shirt.

From reading these forums, it seems as though the ticket office isn’t particularly great at their jobs. They could probably use Business/Sports Management majors as interns to have an inside sales job calling all season ticket holders and thanking them and asking to renew for the next year as well as cold calling alums and any one who expresses interest for tickets.

As far as marketing goes, I would continue to pump as much money into Facebook and Instagram ads as possible. Also, maybe give out as much Towson football swag as possible to freshman on move-in day at the dorms: T-shirt’s, hoody’s, flags, hats, posters, and a ticket to the first home game.

The food truck idea is a really good one.  They used to have a batemans tent in the parking lot before the game with beer and food.

There should be giveaways each week for students. Make the better ones (maybe a hoodie for the first 500), an end of the 3rd Q giveaway.  Voucher upon arrival and then need to stay at-least until that point to receive.

LOL to the free beer. That will not and should not happen. In regards to the money aspect, you contradict yourself, "college kids have no money," but the game, and parking are free and they can use meal swipes inside the stadium.  Bars are not free.

I like your though about the car/grill etc.  I have all of those and used to bring them every week and set up a full spread and making it into an event with 15-20 people.  Now that I live in the city, I don't feel like dragging it all up and back, with parking on the street, before and after the game. Maybe they can set up a tailgate package for like $200 for a tent, table, chairs and grill.  Could even set up a catering/food package with black and gold catering (yuck, but still food!) for sub platters, burgers, etc.

Nova can pick their score in that game. Hopefully, it won’t carry much weight with the selection committee, especially if Richmond & Delaware can manage to beat them

Nova, assuming they beat LIU, will need just to win 1 of the other 2. If not, they will be out.
