I’m at a college football showcase in Mesa Arizona and missed the entire game only to have a fellow alum who follows the team text me…. “this team simply isn’t tough enough, mentally and physically, and that falls on the coaches”

Haven’t been. For a guy who preaches toughness, his teams never  have it.
I did hear if we each 17* straight home wins he gets another half decade for his career 500 record!

What a kooky conundrum. These guy are BAD at scoring (on the road) yet somehow we are good enough to win 15 in a row at home and beat a team that beat #6 Kentucky

are we an elite mid major?

    are we frauds?

We never beat CofC so i have no confidence we go down there and get a win Thursday. Sheesh! Glad that one isn’t televised

Elite mid major?!  We have been a 5 to 7 team in a low/mid major league that is dieing, for a decade

You’re not alone in your frustration. Disclaimer: I didn’t watch the game today, as I knew it would be another depressing outcome. I did glance at the score occasionally online, and wasn’t surprised to see we had 17 points at the end of the first half. Two conference road games & 2 losses, with 102 points scored (for an average of 51 points per game). Needless to say, conference road wins will be at a premium. And you’re right, the ceiling for this team is around 16 wins, a middle of the pack finish in the conference, and a quick exit from the conference tournament. I wish I could say there’s light at the end of the tunnel, but sadly I don’t think there is. No matter how many potentially promising freshmen and/or portal players he brings in, history has shown something will go off the rails. This may be harsh, but he’s not a winner. 3 more years of this (at least). The thought of this unentertaining and unsuccessful brand of ball 🏀 is tough to fathom, but that’s the reality.  Sad that I’ve reconciled myself to this. I guess it’s one of the stages of grief

Unfortunately the same. Knew this would be an ugly loss. We likely won’t win on the road this year.
Decade plus and this has been the breaking point for me. Not just the play on the court and the “coaching”,  but the constant blind support and rah rah attitude on here. Just nauseating.  Not you, you’re a good in the middle.

With our last couple of games, we have passed Virginia for the second-slowest tempo in nation and our closed to passing North Texas for third-slowed (360). Northeastern is slow at 265th, but still averages almost five possessions more per game.

We are tied for fifth in the nation in offensive rebounding. As has been stated here, you can see how our pace pushes up our defensive numbers. We are 33rd in the nation in scoring defense (64.4 ppg), while sitting at 171st in field goal percentage defense. Like UNC-W, Northeastern is a good free-throw shooting team (60th in the nation at 74.8%) and does not foul much (14.9 fouls per game, we are at 16.4 for a comparison). Even thought they have slow pace, they are still 239th in the nation scoring defense (73.8 ppg), and have the 331st-ranked field goal defense (339th in 3pt FG defense). They are in the upper third nationally in field percentage offensively.

I don't know what to make out of the fact that we have been outscored in all three conference games in points in the paint by a total of 92-66 so far. There is probably some combination of good defense and luck (I would have to see a chart of quality vs. contested shots), but we are holding opponents to 9-41 from 3pt-FGs in our three conference games, which a little under 22%.

I’ll give you a good one. They shot 20-28 from inside the arc last night.  Yes it’s Hofstra and they don’t defend well but still.

Yeah, I neglected to mention in my previous post about the ridiculous 30-minute delay. Not acceptable & makes us look like a Mickey Mouse outfit.

Also agree that CT has no business handling the ball like he did tonight at the end of the game. And May disappointed again on offense, though he gets credit for his D tonight.

Last thing is an observation I made tonight. Early in the first half DWill did (or failed to do) something that pissed Skerry off. Then on the defensive end, Tarke picked up a foul. Skerry immediately yanked both from the game. Just seems to me that he’s putting unnecessary pressure on some of these guys to basically play perfect or be benched. I wonder if that doesn’t tend to make guys tentative, for fear of making a mistake and being benched

That’s been his way. Quick hooks. I agree with you there’s a time and place for those. Basketball is a rhythm sport and that makes it difficult to do

Let's go with good, bad and ugly. Let me start with ugly.

Ugly: 30-minute delay for a shot clock issue. That is unacceptable. First delay of the year is when Cole Paar broke the basket in warm ups. That took about 1/2 that long to change baskets and start the game about 15 minutes late. If there are equipment issues it's on the athletic department along with facilities to get this fixed. Shit happens sometimes, but you have to be prepared for it. And I didn't even mention the roof leaking in the women's game against UMES that has been re-scheduled. That money received from the next bank that sponsors TU Arena should go towards some renovations and fixes over the summer. New shot clocks, baskets, roofing, etc. PS did apologize in the press conference for that 30-minute delay, but I'm guessing that even his harshest critics can't' blame him for the issues with the building.

Bad: The last 45 seconds of regulation. Why is Charles Thompson handing the ball against pressure late in the game? Where is Williamson? I knew he was guarded tightly by Clarke. Almost too tightly.

The last play at the end of regulation. .Everything was right until the shot. Williamson had 6-10 Chris Maidoh on him and you either drive past him or drive to set up somebody. Ends up taking a tough fadeaway that missed.

May's offense. He played 41 minutes and you'd like to see him score more than 8 points. He didn't even get to the line, which can be a bad thing, but also had four turnovers. Dropped one great pass down low.

    Good:

May's defense on Tyler Stephenson-Moore was exceptional. He held him to just nine points on 3-of-12 shooting (1-4 3pt). Stephenon-Moore is one of the best pure scorers in the conference.

Big-shot Tyler Tejada did it again. Hits the big three in overtime and Stony Brook never recovered. Had 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting. Just one rebound but I like that they are playing him more at the 4. With Sulaiman and Jones struggling, he's going to need to play probably at least 10 minutes there.

Charles Thompson is playing better. He's not back. That jump hook is still not pure yet, but he had 12 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 blocks. That's all you can expect every night. Now he faces old foe Chris Dougherty for the 50th time on Saturday.

Some zone struggles that I'm sure Towson will see plenty of in the CAA. Towson shot 52% from the field in the first half, but around 35% in the second half. Some missed bunnies but mostly missed jumpers.

Nendah Tarke's defense and FT shooting. Tarke didn't shoot well tonight (3-7 FG, 1-4 3pt), but he had 13 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. He ran the point a lot because of defense and Williamson's second half struggles. But his FT shooting was huge in the overtime. CT and May were in the press room and they both mentioned how much they've been practicing FTs. You can see Tarke has and it's paying off. Would like to see him drive a little more but it still seems like he's in the feeling-out process on offense.

Hell may freeze over because I agree word for word.

may Williamson tarke and Tejada need to be if a team is going to zone us. Need drivers and some shooters.  It confused us in the first half.
We did a very good job defensively on their best player. Let the role players try and get theirs and lock up the best guy. Can’t have players like white and rice go for 20+ and win often. That white guy with the leg brace  was killing us early on, but like most role players (as we all know) has limitations.

4 spot is still very concerning. Jones played better than Suliman last night but that isn’t saying anything.  Getting 10 and 9 combined from them is probably the ceiling.

facilities needs to fix their shit. Embarrassing that in less than 2 years we have had 2 hoop issues (last nights took way to long to rectify) a wet court and a leaky roof. Arena is a decade old. This isn’t the motor burning out on seats at the Towson Center. Luckily it was against stony Brook and their coach was a good sport about it

Just watched the preview show.  “5” grad transfers start and two of them are 7ft bigs.  Assuming will see some more Paar this contest.

The other 7 footer averages 3 minutes a game so idk about that. They do have a few other 6’10 guys. The 7 footer from Stanford, who plays averages 4.5 rebounds

Any bars in Towson show FloHoops? Away game on Saturday that’s not televised. Maybe the new Greene turtle?

If you buy now you get 8 road games and 1 (maybe 2 if we are really lucky) games in the  tournament, for 30 bucks. And that’s assuming you don’t go to All home games. Not a bad deal.
flo is a bad app, and streaming service but watching road games on it is refreshing. Most are much better productions than we put out.  Cameras aren’t from the early 2000s too haha

I would probably agree, but my point is I think the extension is meaningless like a lot of one-year extensions in college sports. The main question for everyone here is what standard will Skerry be held to. I don't think that one extra year is going to stop Eigonbrot from getting rid of Skerry if he isn't meeting the goals they are looking to achieve. Similarly, if he is meeting those goals Eigonbrot will probably keep him. The more relevant question is what is the standard, and what would make Eigonbort act if he feels we need to improve.

As others have said on here the lack of sharing it publicly also isn't a great look. Multi-year extensions are worth freaking out about, but I think even Towson wouldn't let one extra year get in the way of needed change. That being said, because of the previous multi-year extension it seems like we are couple of years away from sorting out if the one year matters or not.

I don't really care right now, but it will be worth talking about in March when the season is over. For now, I find what goes on the court more interesting to discuss.

Not sure it’s “meaningless”. An extra year is one further away from the end. Because we all know they won’t eat two years let alone one

    1. can’t say I’m gonna make the trip to the fun tourist destination of Cincinnati, Ohio to watch us lose

    2. love playing Morgan state at home. They usually bring 5,000 students. Put this heavyweight matchup on MD Public Television!

    3. At Villanova (yawn)

    4. I forgot we still have a game AT North Dakota State. The Fargodome looks like a cool experience (for a bison fan). Hopefully we can hold our own with the perennial powerhouse

    5. William & Mary was all hype last year, will they be better this year? Idk Goh Tigers!

    6. at Norfolk State (revenge game unfortunately)

    7. Stony Brook at home should be a W

    8. at new rival Monmouth, gotta get our revenge

    9. at Richmond haven’t played them there in a long time

    10. Hampton at home should be a win

    11. at NC A&T for the greatest homecoming on earth! This will be the best gameday  atmosphere next to North Dakota.

12.at newby Campbell Camels. I think they will be bruised and limping to the end of the season after year one in the CAA. Towson tigers gonna whoop em!

should be an interesting season to see what Pete shinnick has up his sleeve!

hope Steve Eigenbrot and the marketing team can keep putting our creative promotions to drive fans

    Lol 5,000. Yeah right.
    Played Richmond 2 seasons ago.
What happened to the pod scheduling? Why isn’t Delaware on there??

Counting wins and losses here is a bad practice, we typically lose the ones we should win and vice versa. Though 8-2 to make playoffs is going to be tough.

I never said I didn’t! 😂.  There’s a good bit of negative thoughts that I have, comes with being a pessimist by nature, but unfortunately there’s a lot of truth with those as well. Sometimes the truth hurts. Life ain’t always sunshine and rainbows!

Why do you conflate two issues? Not a single, solitary post on this board has even remotely tried to rationalize the ridiculous extension he got. That being said, is it the player’s fault that he got it? Should we take no pleasure in beating UNCW? Nobody, I repeat nobody, has any false allusions about this team. I grudgingly defend your right to express your opinions, but you really do at times sap the energy from this forum and I suspect you’ve so worn down some folks that they no longer post, or worse, no longer even read posts on here. We get it, Skerry can’t win close games; can’t win in the conference tournament; can’t recruit a PG; plays a desultory style of basketball and certainly didn’t deserve the 8-year extension, or the last secretive one. I mean, nobody’s disputing any of these things-you’re arguing with phantoms. You’ve made your points, ad nauseum. ENOUGH!!!

Disagree. Sorry there are A LOT of people on here (not you) with false allusions about this team and program.  Way more than there should be and I’m obviously on the differing opinion on that, but I’m much closer to the truth than those. Blazer was commenting on the fact that another undeserved extension was given. I responded that some on here are giddy as hell after Saturday to climb back to 500. My point to him was, again, they are good with it.

Give us something to talk about then. Everyone on here repeats the same shit and their opinions. Mine doesn’t align with yours, so what?!  Not playing like hot garbage against Monmouth with 2 weeks to prepare for that one.  Uncw was a nice win. I thought an injured and tired team coming off a loss in Philly would come in and assert themselves they didn’t.  This was probably a top 5-7 win all time for Pat, which really says something. Players showed up when it counted Saturday. kudos to them.

Criticism of skerry is warranted and directed that way. I’m a lot more vocal about the players but try to keep a good amount out. The older guys can take it, ie charles. So that goes to the coach. We all (the ones who want to win) think there should be changes made to the gameplan/strategy to help play to our strengths.  I don’t mind playing at a snails pace, if we win (like uva).

Again we will be solid at home. So Thursday at 9:15pm some will be ready to start on the statue but then go silent when we sit 2-3 after an ugly game in Charleston. It’s a message board everyone, don’t get too upset…

Now we're fighting for the best Towson fan on this board. We know who isn't. It has nothing to do with mediocrity or lack of titles or how much money you've given a program or whether you worked for them. Chris D. has been on the board and the CAAZone board for a long ass time. Probably close to 20 years since I started doing this in 2001. Everyone has the right to critique the coach and the system, which Chris was doing the other night after the Monmouth debacle. Most here want to win every game but we know it's impossible. Well some do.

I'll say this as a personal note. I take every loss and every win personally. I've covered the program since 1989, but I've never felt worse than I have the last 10 or so years after losses. I wonder why. I'm emotionally done with this program in March because of this board and it's not just about wins or losses. Nobody is f-ing satisfied with 24 wins or 20 wins or 17 wins without a title nor should they be. But it's ok to applaud these kids after wins instead of reading the same nauseating things over and over and over. Honestly, I can't take it anymore and at some point, I seriously need a break from this board. Maybe it's after the next loss.

I stuck by this program through the 16 straight losing seasons and for some reason, this is worse. Getting close to my breaking point.

Doors swing both ways don’t forget that. Not saying you particularly in every case, but some of us are tired with the same old things said and praised on the other aisle.

  14. 7 hours ago, Blazer49 said:

Stunned.  This is reprehensible.  Unless there are some things listed in that extension that we do not know about there was no reason or need to extend this contract.  13 years with 4 or 5 conference tournament finals appearances and maybe 1 or 2 NCAA tournament bids is too long to stay with one coach.  As we all know this coach has ZERO conference tournament finals appearances and ZERO NCAA tournament bids.  That's ZERO (let me check to make sure) CAA conference appearances, I just wanted to make sure we somehow ended up in the ACC for a few years during that 13 year run.

By the way.  When you want to release information but do not want to make big waves about it what do you do?  You release it or let it slip out on a Friday.  Towson doubled down on this by having this information "leak", "slip" however you want to say it by giving it to the school newspaper.  Kudos to Jake Shindel, who I think does a phenomenal job and probably is Towson's best prospect to go work in "professional sports", but if the athletic department was truly excited about the extension news a huge press release is sent out with media availability to all tv stations and the Sun.

This is an admission by the department and probably a realization we all need to recognize that for what we have to pay a basketball coach we ain't getting one better than Pat and if we were to let him go the replacement would probably also becoming from a West Florida type level school.

All on point. It is quite sad. BUT WE DID BEAT A TEAM (not entirely the same but won’t get into that) WHO BEAT KENTUCKY!  LIKE WE ARE GOOD. DONT BE A DEBBIE DOWNER. SHEESH

Jake is among the CAA's finest! My guy. And on those lines, I sorta doubt it was "given" to the Towerlight. Probably nitpicking your statement but as a practical matter, more credit goes to Jake for obtaining the record, which takes hoops to jump etc. TU definitely did not want it out and wasn't handing the TL any favors.

Apples and oranges scenario in all likelihood, but it reminded me to compare with Delaware's Ingelsby extension announcement: Ingelsby Extended Through 2028-29 Season

So, since UNCW beat Kentucky, does this mean we’re better than UK?🤔😆

Realistically, I think most would have been satisfied with a 1-1 split to start conference play. Of course, I don’t think many would have predicted the W would be over UNCW. Their guy White was a scoring machine today, but I found his continual exaggerated body flailing on offense, anytime one of our guys breathed on him, really annoying and worthy of a call against him for flopping.

After the uber depressing Monmouth game, this was a pleasant surprise. (And no, it doesn’t mean he should get another extension. He should have never gotten the last one).

This was the kind of game we need from CT. Tarke too. Obvious kudos to Tejada, who, after a miserable game vs Monmouth, drained 3 3 balls today, including the game winner. I also liked how Williamson was able to break their D down on a couple of occasions, and drive for baskets. How refreshing was it to actually win a game at the buzzer, rather than throwing up a ridiculous shot, or not getting a shot off at all.

Now, OTOH, why can’t May shoot foul shots anymore? He literally almost shot an air ball today. Also, Jones needs to be taken out of the rotation. I’m sorry but he’s inept at every facet of the game. He’s so bad, I’d rather see Coleman play over him.

We disagree and agree from time to time and I know you’re joking with that first statement but there’s a lot of people on here who will take that as gospel 😆

1-1 is what we expected but not the way we thought. White was good and is good. He was under control with his body so got calls. Our guys are clumsy and out of control and get hit but don’t the get the calls. If only we had the best poster who’s a little ref, call our games!  Lmfao.

the extensions are handed out for no reason and some here just quietly take and accept it

May on the line is a concern  like you said as is the 4 spot

tarke can drive but lacks direction on what his plan is  Williamson can drive and dish and finish some. Wish he would take less 3s and penetrate and run a pick and roll more

Gosh that win had to kill ya !   (“Act like you’ve been there before” ; nice quote on the live chat ; Captain Miserable)

congrats to rest ; WHAT A WIN !!!

It didn’t. Bleed black and gold more than anyone. Take those losses harder than most because of my personal connection to the program. I don’t accept mediocrity when I know this program and school can and should be doing better.  I am miserable. Been to more games than probably anyone on here (minus Mat and spiro if he’s lurking here), since 2008. I’ve seen us first hand get out teeth kicked in by a dominant caa. I’ve seen us embarrass ourselves nationally. I’ve seen our coach use his trench coach to try and get a bus off a snow covered exit ramp, where we missed a game 50 miles away. I have personally witnesses every of those 41 straight losses. Coincidentally they had that game against uncw where we finally won, On TVs in’s the lounge and suite today.  Shout out Keith Rendleman.  I’ve seen every loss in every possible way.

I have also saw them program grow under skerry. I’ve seen them get better on and off the court, where they all graduate. Those couple of 20 win seasons should be commended. But the ceiling has been hit. There’s nothing wrong with waning more and better. Trust me.

Beating a top “team in da conference” to get to “da magic” 7-7 mark, is great. There was some grit and resolve that hasn’t been seen in close to a month.  This team will be solid at home and atrocious away. Don’t expect them score 100 but they need to play better than the Thursday.
Winning a share of league is cause for celebration, like what happened today. But a game in early March to get to the 500 mark? The reeks of small time. Which unfortunately this program and fan base is.  I’ve come to grips with that.

Appreciate you and everyone else who posts on here. Love the rare times I’m proven wrong but would love even more for the ones who only come out after a “dub”,post after losses. I assume I’ll only hear from you and my friend mentioned below after the couple more wins we have this season. I’m here win or loss and ain’t hard to find. Truly wish I hear from y’all another 21 more Times this season!

Our resident v zebra, who thinks he’s a basketball guru, 😂 has ruled. WE ARE BACK. everything is great!  He’s always  the smartest person in the room, because he’s the only person in the room.

  17. Playing at home is much different than on the road. Gonna have to steal 1-2 road games to finish .500 in league play. A team full of role players, playing well at home isn’t surprising.
Great drive and find by tarke after his defender fell down and even better shot by Tejada.
White was an animal and our defense on him wasn’t awful but not great either. Phillips hurt helped us. So did the fact they’ve been on the road forever.

Shorten the rotation a bit which helps. Can’t finish down low still and 4 spot is a major concern.

nice bounce back from Charles. Just wish we didn’t give one away on Thursday.

think we will be a solid home team And a very poor road team (0-7 and counting)

C’mon man. Stop. There’s a time and place for everything & this ain’t the time and place to be bitching about that. We just won a thrilling buzzer beater vs a team that beat UK.

I was being serious, that might be grounds for an extension… we are acting like it’s the game against Delaware. regular season wins like that should be enjoyed. Was a bit much for me (I know you all will kill me and that’s fine)

looking like a 6-3 home 1-8 road team in the league.  Winning on thr road is hard. It’s worse when you score upper 30s.

that said, better offensive effort tonight. I’ll give more comments on the post game thread.  Enjoy this win. 🖕 to the uncw fans out there
