  1. This is going to be a huge test. Maine has only won 1 game outside of New England and that was an FBS win. Their defense is legit and good to face before JMU, who is just as good.

They have the top 2 sack guys in the CAA and those two combined have as many as our entire team.  They lead the CAA in sacks and tackles for loss as well as best defense for yards against. Only 1987 yards in 8 games! with just 480 on the ground.  This is also against two FBS G5 teams.

Luckily its in MD, as they give up 28.6 PPG and 317 YPG on the road vs a stifling 8.7 and 136.7 at home in Siberia.

They have lucked out, playing all 5 of the bottom dwellers, UNH, UR, UNH, Albany, and NOVA but a loss for us on Saturday might be the nail in the coffin for our playoff hopes, especially with the other teams remaining schedules.

Earlier, some people were wondering why Shane wasn’t getting the ball enough. Yeedee has not been consistent as a runner but he needs to get the ball in the red zone more.

is young hurt or was he out for other reasons?  the more waives of weapons you put in the better.

Maine has a great defense and this is a must win if we want to play in decemeber. Hopefully theres a decent crowd, even if for only the first hals

  3. The defense again wasn’t good. It hasnt been better than serviceable in the last decade. Players have come and gone (some to the nfl) but we have a scheme/coaching issue

how many times do we give 15 yard cushion to play zone and have the dbs still retreat?! Especially inside the 25, get up close.

How many times do we let tight ends go open down the middle?

Can we ever get any pressure without bringing extra men on a blitz? Being up most games should make this easy as the line can pin their ears back and go after the qb.

  4. Hard to win on the road.  Even more difficult when the refs were bad and you didn’t play near your best game.

Defense needs to step up and get some pressure (not getting held and tackled on every play would help)

also I see the chicken fans are upset “Towson players walked off without shaking hands”. I left shortly after the last play but the entire Delaware team stormed the field and swarmed the end zone... their fans were also extremely inhospitbilie to say the least. But I guess we  can’t blame them this was that programs biggest win in a decade

Before I get to the quotes, the one big one I remember Rob saying after the game is that "I got outcoached". Not sure I've ever heard him say that or at least not in a very long time. I won't completely agree with it because Rocco had some issues of his own, like why do you kick to Shane Simpson with a 4-point lead? Why not squib it? I guess we squibbed it and our coverage was terrible. It cost us the game amongst many other plays.

Atleast he admitted to this.  Maybe rob is maturing. He did get outcoached. The play calling on both sides of the ball was questionable. As somehow who goes for it on 4th down a lot I’m surprised he didn’t today inside the 15 and settled for fgs

  6. Our classy friends over at gohens.net are talking about ways to stop Flacco:

"There are 2 theories on a QB like this..Pick your poison...Blitz frequently apply heavy pressure and risk him breaking containment
and the other is front him and guard the edge keeping him in pocket
    ..."

and someone added: "there is a third option but it will cost 15 yards."😒

Absolutely can't look past Delaware..............Buuuuut, assuming we take care of business the next few weeks, any chance ESPN College GameDay comes to town for the JMU game?  We know how much ESPN loves JMU, as they've done GameDay from their campus multiple times now.  If that game has big conference/playoff implications, perhaps they can be lured to Baltimore?

Now THAT would get Towson students excited and involved.......I think (hope?).

Taking a look at the FBS matchups for that weekend (11/17) there isn't one "heavyweight" game on the schedule right now that ESPN should think is a "no-brainer" for GameDay.  In fact, there are a lot of snoozers that weekend.

Get that bump-on-a-log AD of ours on the phone with Bristol, right now!!

As strange as that sounds, it wouldn't be a bad choice, if everything holds.  The week before rivalry week in FBS is pretty bad.

If the game was being played off I-81, I think there would a be a good change.

Top candidates now would be Cincinnati at UCF,  Wisconsin at Purdue (possibly the for the Big 10 West)

True. I see the Delaware win over Elon the same way. Elon was without their starting QB & RB. Finishing 7-4 won't work for us. (See 2012 & 2015). The 2012 TU team really could have advanced in the playoffs. The 4 2012 losses were to LSU, Kent St, JMU & ODU. Just like every year we just need to win. Another reason other teams/conf are favored over TU is their fans. Southern & Big Sky teams bring more fans, fill stadiums, spend $, energize games. NDSU filled 90% of the stadium in Frisco vs TU. Apparently, nothing else to do in Fargo. NDSU is like the NFL to Fargo. Had a blast. If we make it again, I'm there!! All the NDSU fans I met were good sports, and welcomed me other TU alum to their backwoods drinking games.. Lol.

agreed. I mean we couldn't get more than 4k for the fordham game. if students dont come now for free, they wont pay $10 or whatever it is.

They were extremely nice. Our hotel was a ways a way from the stadium and still 75% there for the game and all NDSU fans.  They even invited our group out to a local bar that they go to every year after game.

Unfortunately poll & playoffs are biased against Towson. Where do I begin?

    FCS Coaches poll;

    https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/football/fcs/fcs-coaches-poll

Wofford (5-2) ranked #7 in FCS coaches poll & TU ranked # 10. Wofford lost to Furman (2-4), Wyoming (FBS). We both beat the Citadel. We won by 17. They one by 7.

Another issue is how other CAA teams are ranked. I.E. Maine (4-3) dropped out of top 25, but seems to be better than other 4-3 teams in top 25. Maine did beat W Carolina (FBS). TU beating a ranked Maine team would mean more than beating non-ranked.

Why is Kennesaw St (6-1) ranked so high? No wins over a ranked FCS team, & 1 of their 6 wins was over DII Clark-Atlanta. Playing in Big South,  lightweight competition, they'll probably finish high. In past years DII wins were counted if from a preferred conf.

Big Sky is another favored Conf.  Eastern Washington (5-2) is ranked above TU in several polls, with 1 of its 5 wins over a DII team. Didn't see any big wins over a team that made them stand out. They recently lost to Weber St ranked above us.

Playing favorites in polls is why TU. seemingly shocked teams like E Illinois, E. Washington on the road to Frisco  back in 2013.

If I could go back in time, the $1600 $1800 for a round trip ticket would have been worth it.

    Excellent post.

I know people want to say the Nova win isn't that great now... but when we beat them they had their QB, who is one of the best players in the FCS, and was on the road. They also handled Temple, who is having a great season.  Temple offense had 250 yards and scored only 10 points on them.

8-3 & we’re a stone lock. Take that to the bank. But we’ve gotta get there. Beat UD then come home & hold serve against Maine. Lose this Saturday & we may very well have to beat Elon or JMU to go dancing.

This is where that whole rankings matters.

It also depends on what other teams do. Need an upset in the Mvfc to help. Ndsu SDSU uni  ill st at 7-4 would all get in over us

nightmare situation would be if we beat elon and both finish same record.. Phoenix would get in over us
