Important W, as I think the only team in the 7-10 positions that can possibly catch us is UNCW. OTOH, the W still gives us the possibility of moving up to as high as 3rd.

100% true.  Delaware, Drexel and JMU even if they all win out (they play eachother)  cannot pass us.  UNCW can, they are 6-9 with C of C, @WM and @Drexel left. If we finished with the same record tiebreak goes to:

    -Head to Head 1-1--nothing

-Record vs best team TU 1-1 vs C of C   0-1 vs NE   2-0 vs WM   0-1 Hoft       UNCW 0-1 C of C,  0-2 vs NE 0-1 vs WM  1-1 vs Hof.

With that being said, a UNCW loss to C of C sat, or any towson win & UNCW loss clinches a top 6 spot

Alex gets his fair share of bashing here, including by me, but he hustled tonight, grabbed boards & didn’t get in foul trouble. I hope next year that he’ll be a useful role player.

the rest of the team didnt. no excuse to get beat in transition like we did in the first half, especially by daly who, well isnt the fastest in the world and has a bad ankle. hated the no hustle when mosely missed a bunny dunk in the second half and no one in white crossed half court.  atleast mike, starr, and eddie played with some senior urgency at time on the offensive end.

eddie deserved to bark at jg during the game. justin, yes we know is undersized, cannot play post defense, he gets abused because of his awful positioning.  alex played great post d in the second half.

Before I get to the quotes, I guess other than winning, the positive was that Zane Martin could go 3-16 from the field and 0-4 from 3pt and we still win. He scored nine points to break a 21-game streak of double-digit games. What I didn't get how we didn't get the ball to Morsell when he was red-hot. He didn't shoot the ball for what seemed about 8 minutes and then he launches a bad 3 early in the shot clock up 2. Hard to figure this team out. But what does it in the end is defense. We just played well enough to win despite the five straight missed free throws. Unreal.

This. we can also survive Mike, Eddie, and Zane all putting up 3 AWFUL shots with under 4 minutes to go in a tight game  as well as some of the best FT shooters in the CAA totally whiff late and win.  Alex had a big save at the end and rebounded well to help the team.  Dennis also had a good spurt of rebounding and pressing.

New question... 4 games left with 17 wins... Would be amazing to get to 20

month and half ago? it was expected.  now, yes it would, because that would mean we win atleast 1 down in charleston.   with the minimized depth, distractions, awful execution and play calling, along with the numerous blown leads.. yes

  5. Just some stats on a Thursday:

Since Skerry's second year, we are 2-4 in CAA Tournament games, with 4 of them (1-3) being in Baltimore.  2-2 as the higher seed and 0-2 lower.

Most have been close, with all but 1 (Elon) having us leading at the half.  1 OT game, again against Elon.

Wins we average 81 a game

Losses we average 64.8** a game including the 1 OT game

3 of the losses we shot 26.9% or worse from 3 and 42.9% or worse from the field

In losses we average 6.5 missed FT per game and out rebound teams by 8.5 a game and turn the ball over just 1.25 times a game more.

Ironically enough we have only been out-rebounded once, and it was by 14 and we won!  Also in 6 games we only have one player to score over 19 in a game..  Four McGlynn.

Other news, big game tonight and around the league. Tonight if all breaks perfectly, could clinch a top 6 spot

P5 schools aren't coming here. Cant afford the loss.   Why would mid-majors want to risk a 20 win season by playing  more than 1 or. 2 peers per year ? CAA administration has let the league down.  No TV deal and  no marketing package

    this.

i know a10 thinks they are too good for us but a10/caa challenge  or socon or maac would be nice.  solid teams and add alittle more to it

Matt respectfully don’t just put it on the recruiting class from 2013-2014.coaching got a hand in it also.a lot of the impact players on the team that went to the championship were guys that were only at Towson because they were dismissed from the schools were they were at. I am pulling for Towson to get better but we can be realist about things.

how do you talk about the great rob and jared ambrose like that??!!!   Runda, I think he meant transfers and castoffs from other programs.

Clark, Gaddis, Sheppard, Love, Kinnard, Dowling, Pfeiffer, Enders, Dangerfield, and oh some guy named West.  All from 12/13 teams that were real good players and they all werent recruited out of HS by the "brothers"

Even if it means we never get a home game in the deal, I still think it's better for us to go on the road and get our teeth kicked in by the likes of Wake Forest, Butler, Georgia Tech, etc., than to play a bunch of tomato cans and get ZERO benefit.  I'd rather go 3-7 in non-conference play if it means it's going to get us better prepared for the CAA schedule.

we wouldnt get our teeth kicked in against those type of teams.  mostly because those teams would NEVER play us.  the mediocre power 5 teams like maryland, wake, gt, vt, gtown etc will not play us, as we are to risky to put their at large change at risk.  so we are stuck with novas, kansas, of the world which are games we shouldnt really play (maybe 1 for the money guarantee crowd) as they do nothing to prepare us for CAA.

I am all for 2 for 1's with any a10 league or higher. Even their bottom level teams. Temple, ODU, Mason were some nice teams that we have had. I just hate playing the crappy local teams, does nothing for me.  add navy and mount and you got something.

There is no reason we cannot schedule 4-5 games a year with a10, maac, nec schools.  They are all for the most part close to us where a plane would not be needed.  We could also get away from the meac schools and try for horizon and MAC.  Spreading your recruiting footprint to the midwest doesnt hurt.  Tough kids, and chicago, cleveland, indy, detroit have some solid players

  10. I was there from 08/09 season- 11/12 and worked for the team for all 4 years (3 with PK and 1 with Skerry)  27-100 was the overall record in my time.  So obviously we are way better off now then before.

I do not understand those sentiments at all.  minus the first year, he is 112-78 over 5 3/4 seasons.  that is great and no one is taking that away from him.  he has done wonders in building a program here.  This is what has plagued towson forever; "oh I'm just happy being competitive." what is wrong with wanting more??

With his x and o capability and style of play (not conducive to winning in the CAA), I along with others just believe he has taken as far as he can.

After the first two years, he had.. the greatest turnaround in NCAA history, a brand new arena, successful transfers, and better academic and support staff, but can anyone say he and the program have capitalized on it?  Marketing and the AD have a ton to do with the awful attendance.  Why dont they put on a promotion/giveaway to get some butts in the seats. Why dont they enhance the game-day experience at SECU?

Lets settle for mediocrity/slightly above and continue to underachieve..

  11. while yes we had some crazy comebacks, you can look at it this way..

    second half blown leads

    10 with 4:46 left  Hofstra

    12 with 9:33 left  @UNCW

    11 with 12:21 left @JMU

    6 with 8:12 left @ ELon

    9 with 6:22 @Pitt

The first three were real bad.. difference between 20-7 (10-4) tied for second 1 game out of first.

Good stats. I don't care if we have only two players that are in double digits, Eddie doesn't need to be shooting that much. He and Mike rarely make the extra pass or even the smarter pass. That to me is better than shooting 50-60 shots a game is finding an open teammate. Justin should, he just needs to finish around the basket better. McNeill has been horrific since coming back that knee injury.

agree, eddie should only shoot when hes down low.  he was effective in the post against drexel with the little hooks.  Seems like we always have eddie in the high post when facing a zone. would like to see justin there, as he has shown that he has decent vision for a big and can shoot the mid range.  maybe having sanders in the low post next year will help that.

lets not sugar coat it, mcneil has been horrific since hes gotten to towson.  39 points in 13 caa games while averaging about 16 minutes a game.  3.8 PPG against D1 opponents -- 56 of his 340 career points have been against Non D1's.  Not picking on the kid, he seems like a good teammate and student, but he is clearly over his head at this level.

  13. The last 5 games:

    Starr: 8-29= 27.6%   from 3 2-9= 22.2%  4 PPG   2.8 Assists  1.6 rebounds   6 turnovers      and just 2 FT attempts total

    Zane: 45-107= 42.1%    from 3 13-29= 44.8%  24.2 PPG  5.2 rebounds  3.2 assist  19 turnovers! 25 FT attempts

    Mike: 39-80= 48.8%      from 3 10-26= 38.4%   20.4 PPG  5.2 rebounds  .6 assists  1.4 steals   7 turnovers only 18 FT attempts

    Eddie: 17-37= 46%     from 3 0-2    9.8 PPG 5.2 rebounds   1.6 assists   7 turnovers   15-29 from the line

    Justin:  16-34=  47%   from 3 0-1  9.8 PPG   10.4 rebounds   1.6 assists  8 turnovers    17-23 from the line

    Mcneil:   4-17= 23.5%   from 3  1-9= 11.1%  1.8 PPG  2 rebounds .5 assists 2 turnovers   0-1 from the line

These are our big minute guys and its not good looking.

    Good-                                                                        Bad-

Starr- Taking care of the ball                                        Shooting and not getting to the line

Zane- scoring and shooting well from 3, rebounding       turnovers

Mike- scoring and rebounding                                      Not getting others involved and not enough FT's

Eddie: rebounding and doing a bit of everything            FT's  missing a ton and he is our leader in attempts

JG- Rebounding and passing                                       Shooting %, cleaning up glass but not finishing

Mcneil-  he isnt turning it over?                                   almost everything else

I for one don't mind seeing mike and zane chuck up 50-60 shots a night between them.  we have no depth now and have a grand total of 3 20+ point career scoring games on our roster.

I thought it was low-class for Coen to have his starters n the last minute esp. Pusica when we waved the white flag and had our walk-on and third-string point guard in.

Odd. I always thought he was a high class coach. Certainly the best x and o coach in the caa. And it’s not even close

he was barking at refs right at half and had a member of his staff yell at the scorers table and ref about the balls?
