Impossible to watch Oakland take down Kentucky and not realize why some of us so desperately want new leadership for Towson’s program to possibly improve our chances for a similar shot at glory.

But hey, I should just be grateful we get our coveted 20 wins a year. 😉

Dis ain’t kEnTucky or duKe lmfaO what else can you want?! Be grateful for DA 19 wins. ‘MemBer where we used to be?! (15 fucking years ago).

  2. Conference tournaments only help the power conferences.  Their #1 team is always going to be in.  A team or two on the bubble? Make a little run and improve your resume (Colorado, Texas A&M), or get in with the automatic (NC State, Oregon).  It also helps by keeping out the better mid major teams.  Imagine how many more upsets there would be if the mid-majors sent their best team?!

If you were a betting man, which is more likely to happen first?….

Pat Skerry takes Towson to the NCAA Tournament or Pete Shinnick gets Towson back to the FCS National Championship Game?

Neither.  Although skerrys is easier. Just need 3 or 4 wins.  Football needs 7 (8 for our name) to make playoffs and then 3/4 additional wins in the playoffs.  Do like 35% of teams still make that?

I watched most of that game last night.  We are lucky that it took 8 innings before the mercy rule took effect.  At the on set it looked like the game would only last 5 innings.

Look we were not beating Duke, but watching that game I kind of wonder how they won 4 games.

Beginning of the game the starting Duke pitcher got 6 outs on 12 pitches, where it took our guy 30 pitches to get 3 outs.

We had 5 total errors, 3 by the third baseman in the same inning which TuTigers2012 eluded to.  I think it should have been 6 errors but generous home scoring on one.

8 total walks, 3 hit batters, 4 wild pitches.

On to another issue.  First pitch last night was around 7:00 PM in Durham, NC.  Game ended around 9:30 PM.  It takes about 5 hours and 20 minutes according to Google Maps to go from Duke to Towson.  Assuming they were on the road at say 10:15 PM they probably got back to Towson at around 3:45 AM and back into their dorms/apartments at around 4:15 AM.  Plenty of time for these "student athletes" to get some rest, go to class (hahahaha) and then get ready for their 3:00 PM home game against GW today.  Who set up this schedule?

Sheesh didn’t even see that.  I know most Midweek games in conf season are on Wednesday’s and close but that’s wild

If you watch all of Skerry's press conferences after losses, he starts out with "I love the effort of these guys". To quote the Stony Brook coach after the loss in the finals.....I try hard at golf, but don't get invited to the Masters.......effort is nice, but that is a minimum expectation of a scholarship NIL athlete.

Don't be so mean! This is Towson athletics, trying is as good as winning here!

Towson vs. Duke on the ACC Network tonight at 7:00 PM if anyone is interested.  Hope they can keep it "close"

Learned today that I get ACCN now. Just turned it on and saw back to back bad errors by 3rd basemen, sandwiched between a double steal to make it 6-0 Duke.   4 errors already..  wonder if baseball has a mercy rule

update. 3 errors by the same guy in the inning

I was on vacation last week and didn't get a chance to post much in the aftermath of our loss. Great job collecting all of this in one place! I find it interested that 16 of these came in what has been a pretty good regular-season run for the program the last three years, and it leads to my biggest criticism even more than not making the tournament which is the struggle to meet the moment with so many opportunity for big program wins in the regular-season (where the pressure should be less).

I know we mostly focus on the tournament, but wins at Hofstra and vs. Wake Forest this year, too many to count last year (Navy, at Wake, at Hofstra, at Drexel, at Charleston) and at Pitt, at Drexel and USF in 2021-22 could have done a lot for the program or conference results in all of those years and we weren't able to close it out. Honestly, I would have to imagine even Skerry would admit fault to the amount of times we just haven't gotten over the hump (although I don't now what that would accomplish.

Like most stats, I would have to see the other end of this with some of the comebacks, good performances, and how this stacks up with the Hofstras, Drexels and Wilmingtons of the world who have pulled their number of choke jobs during this stretch too. However, all of those teams definitely have more breakthrough (quality non-conference wins) than us. As you said, it is up to the people who care to defend Skerry to come up with the other end of the argument. I am somewhere in the middle so I may or may not take the bait to do that.

TGCP, thanks for bringing up the Maryland game. That has definitely been lost in time, but there were some good moments in that game. I think what has been so frustrating during the Skerry era is there are so many moments during the game where he makes you proud of the team/program, but not nearly as many actual results that do the same.

It is impossible not to be hugely disappointed in the way the Charleston game ended last week. Playing not to lose is an understatement. I know I will get panned for this opinion, but I do see a little progress in the way this team has played effort-wise the last two tournaments as opposed to some of the complete no-shows that happened previously.

It still isn't good enough, but I do think there is ever so-slight progress. What it amounts to I have no idea (I am sure most on here have a more definitive opinion that I can't really argue).

The really frustrating part to me is this was not a great Charleston team (maybe I will be proven wrong in the NCAA Tournament and the conference can finally win a game), but Towson was better on the day and once again that was not represented in the final score. To your original point, and you will get no argument from me, even though we have been good we haven't closed the door against good teams when it matters very much under Skerry.

I stated that these are just the blown leads/close games where we totally just shit the bed at the end. I’m sure there a few nice comebacks here and there and may on a slow day dig through and find them. But the losses outweigh the wins. The uncw game this year. Morsell had a few clutch shots but otherwise?

Just showing the wasted opportunities that we had over the years.  It’s mind numbing. We weee 2-11 this year trailing at half and two of those were the first two games in dc.  I will give credit to skerry, we don’t blow as many halftime leads as others (or so it seems) and have a good amount of halftime leads. Which is more amazing considering we usually come out slow.  To be honest the last 12-15 minutes of the first half and first 12-15 minutes of the second half we are probably one of the best teams in the country. It’s those other 8-10 minutes where we do absolutely nothing, that hurts.

hope you had a nice trip!

Will Wade was the guy from LSU and the recruiting scandal.  Just catching up on McNeese State.  He’s pretty crazy but a serious competitor.  He got Wells from TCU and a bunch of other transfers.
    More depressed 😔 now

He's been to the dance now with 3 different schools in 7 years!  "That's a strong ass offer" and impressive, even if he's a scumbag.  Hey there a bunch of scumbag coaches in the tournament, Hurley, Scheyer, Gard, Becker, Byington, Izzo, Wade...

    net doesn’t matter.  KenPom too.
I watched a ton of Pac 12 games.  Weak conference.
    College selection is broken.

No one said the PAC12 wasn't weak. Outside of the Top 3 in BE, that was weak as well. Colorado had better numbers than St Johns and Slick & Quick Rick

Sun article on Timberlake from Jake. Even though he’s having a bad season, he’s going to the tournament for the first time in six years. Might be a short trip if McCullar and/or Dickinson don’t play

Nice story. Cool for him to finally make it. For most college players, playing it March is the goal. (For some fans of program too!).
Yes without McCullar and Dickinson at full health, it’ll be very difficult for them To win

Mark my words now with NIL coffers. St John’s will load up this off season and be a top 10 team next year.  Really surprised Pitino not in the Big Dance considering TV money and ratings.
We are all old and have seen year after year certain teams slighted but yesterday was true insanity.  Virginia in with a net of 58.
PS- NCAA, NIT and..  any other tournament available for our Tigers to decline??  CBI CIT?  Yeah our young core of players doesn’t need the extra games cause of the Canada trip..  Think it but why say it Coach 🫣

Besides UVA, who would you replace St Johns with.  They didn't have a great OOC schedule and beat up on the weak Big East teams. They weren't good enough

All I’ve got to say is Roll Tide!!!

No way. A run for Charleston may lead to Kelsey moving on and or cougars moving to a10. That, and the money can help the conference.  Do you know Joey D can do with another unit?! The possibilities are endless with that great innovative mind. It’s been a decade since a caa win, which was a PIG.

Also love that they sent 3 of the 4 Alabama schools to Spokane. And the other to SLC

Well, Army is a service academy; Citadel is a quasi service academy and Rice probably is hamstrung by high academic standards. So you could say that from 1991 (when we last made the tournament) to now, a span of 33 years, we, along with UMES, UMKC and UNH, are the most inept programs in D1, of those who have been in D1 since 1991 or longer. (Inept in terms of getting to their conference championship game)

It also bears noting that at least 20 (give or take) of the programs you listed, who have never been to the tournament, were not even in D1 in 1991.

Additionally, your list doesn’t account for the converse-schools that have been to the tournament more recently than us, who weren’t D1 members in 1991

No issues with that! Back to back to back 19+ win seasons! 🥳🥳. Can’t expect to win them all!
