Skerry has always had “try hard “ guys, which has gotten us over a decade of early exits from postseason play, and a trophy case full of participation trophies

Try hard guys are needed on every team but when you have a limited number of scholarships, that should be 2-3 at most not an entire team

but “skerry grAduTez da plaYers and winS dA gameS what else can ya Wantt?!”

Tarke has a lot of negative plays.  Just too many.  Turnovers killed us in this one but Tarke just needs to not put up senseless shots.  0 for 10, wow.  There a lot of guys that played hard today.  Rebounding was great, inside game was great.  Turnovers and Tarke just making too many negative plays.  This can be cleaned up.

Then why after 30 and 20 games hasn’t it?  Rebounding is always great. Defense is average.  Offense and coaching are pitiful. Game in game out.

Coaches style doesn’t fit for a player to score 14 or more a game. (Which every other team in the league has except us). Lack of composure in late games is ridiculous.  Not making shots fine. But the boneheaded plays  and actions? Simply un-fucking acceptable. Sorry. Year 13 and a player in his 5th year?!

Not a terribly surprising result, which is the problem. Tarke 0-10. You would think he would have made 1 by accident. Any chance Nicholls State wants him back?

Look, we desperately need a PG & some guys who can score next season. Needing these things and getting them are 2 completely different stories though.

CT with a headbutt? Is this the WWF? He’s got his name all over the TU record books, in no small part due to the volume of games he played, but it’s time to close the book on the CT era.

Honestly, is anyone excited/optimistic about our chances in the tournament? Maybe we win 1 game, though I certainly wouldn’t be shocked if we’re 1 & done

Need just 7-8 players and we are right there!

The lack of discipline in this program is ridiculous. New voice and leadership needed.. yesterday!

Feels like a game we can ugly up and win, but hard to imagine us doing something like what we did against Charleston. It would be nice to get a good offensive performance and a win heading into the tournament, but that seems like it will be really tough so I will take a win in whatever form it comes in tomorrow.

I knew 2-2 was a given in our final four games, but 3-1 will be tough to get to.

UNC-W -5.5 seems 1-2 points too high, but hard to know what to expect offensively on the road. We won’t be able to get away with Trazerien White lighting us up like he did in the first meeting.

It’s 3.5 as of this morning, which I feel as though is a fair line. Can lowery/tarke/May do a good enough job guarding white? Dude is good and would be my pick for Poty (slightly) over Thomas

  5. Not sure if I like our chances more or less now that uncw has hit a major bump recently. I don’t see how they lose 3 straight at home, but the fact that they lost 2 is something.

Sell out crowd, hoping to knock them out of a double bye and senior day. Hopefully can ruin Phillips day. Feels like he was a freshman when Nick was.  Also would be nice for their insufferable fan base to lose their minds

it certainly appears that whether or not we win Saturday, in round 3 of the tournament, we will play UNCW. The only question is whether UNCW or Towson will have the bye in the second round, providing one more opportunity to lose to a poor team.

Yup. It’s pretty likely that our path is 12/13, uncw, Charleston, final. Or uncw/12-13 winner, Charleston, final.

  7. Beat a bad team, something that wasn’t don’t enough this year. A game where our “bigs” could dominate their small front court. Charles played volleyball on the glass which is much needed. Running actual offense and passing helps (novel concept to this crew).  Atleast we are consistent now in no post game on the road!
Aggies had a few guys out so that certainly helped.
Move to 17-12 with uncw who, we very well may play again in 4-5 game

That seems like a good combo for Towson to actually look like a team that can score for a night. I expect a knock-down-drag it out affair on Saturday at UNC-W much like last year, but this game might be similar to Monmouth last week in the sense that we look better for one night before going back to the mean of what our offense has generally been for most of the year.

Good call.  I’m told by some giddy tiger fans that this was such a great win against a very good team (quad 4) it’ll count as two wins!  Thus pushing us into a double bye

Maybe this is just hearsay but I was told that International Players have a cap on the amount of NIL money they can receive and hence would be a better pursuit for mid major schools that lack funds..  again don’t know if this is indeed fact.
What I do know is we are gonna sink or swim in the next few seasons depending on what NIL funds we come up with.
The University of San Francisco has a ton of NIL support and hence have landed Mongo Mike and Johnathan Mogbo simply by outbidding other mid majors and more importantly providing housing for family members.

Are programs like Hofstra, Monmouth, Hampton, uncw, Delaware (hoops), dolling out Tons of money? No probably not. This NIL crap is new and it seems like one team is doing a lot in our league.  They likely will be gone or their coach, or both very soon.

So what the hell is the excuse for the 12 years prior?!  (I know you particularly aren’t per say, but it’s been said)

No ostracism here. You’re right, given what he has to work with, Skerry has done a good job getting this offensively challenged team to the cusp of a top 4 finish. But there in lies part of the problem…while he can’t be blamed for Conway and Watson, he is responsible for the two portal swing and misses, in the form of Jones and Sulaiman (I mean, the latter is a decent role player, but nothing more).

You’re also right that his postseason record has been brought up 8 million times. But that’s because it’s so glaringly awful. It’s the elephant 🐘 in the room.

You’re also right that for the most part, he can’t land that stud player. Really, in 13 years, it’s Benimon only. Timberlake’s 1st 3 years, he never averaged more than 12ppg. It wasn’t until years 4-5 that he finally got into the 15-17ppg range, solely on his outside shooting. Let’s be honest, he wasn’t a complete offensive threat when he was here.

I won’t even bring up his failure to bring in a PG, other than Holden.

His offensive “philosophy,” if you can call it that, is antiquated and has proven not to be ultimately successful. I mean, it is what it is. I hope we crack the top 4, but to be honest, I’m pretty much at the point of looking towards next season already

We aren’t asking for a sweet 16 appearance or even a conference championship at this point. We just want to make the f’ing final once. Something every other team in our league has done, including a few others who have already left.   2 wins in a row. That’s it.

Benimon was also an absolutely animal in the gym during his sit out year. Not trying to take credit away from Skerry and his staff but he was in the gym or weightroom non stop.

Of course those wins matter....but it is when you win those that also matter. Folks will remember the Namath Jets Super Bowl win and the '69 Mets over the Orioles  more than a Carolina Panther win over the Chiefs in a week 3 game. (I picked that one out of the sky). I continue to say....win a game that will be remembered.

Stop moving the goalposts!! Haha. Just be happy Wit Da 17 winz a yer

I know I'm going to be ostracized for defending PS, but I don't give a f-ck. Yes, the 18-win season or whatever isn't a big deal anymore. Neither is 20 wins. Beating Drexel, UNCW at home and Charleston on the road doesn't count apparently. Those are good wins. Delaware on the road. Not bad. And yes, the Hampton loss was beyond terrible, I'm not into the regular season doesn't count bullshit. It does. Seedings and double-byes matter in this league. Tournament performances have been bad. No defense for that other than the first Benimon season because they were ineligible. Who knows what the team could have accomplished? After that, it's been one or two and done as has been mentioned 8 million times.

The offense has been atrocious this season and the player they missed the most was Holden, because he ran the offense and helped Timberlake get good looks. Is that on the coach and his staff that the offense has been so stagnant this season? I criticize the offense basically in every loss so of course I think it is. Next off-season, something needs to change and I say it every season. It starts with pace, but when you watch the great ball movement of Charleston, the ball never sticks. I don't care how good your defense is, when you move the ball that quickly and that well, you can beat a good or average defense.

Every coach in the CAA gets criticized. It's part of the job. The UNCW fans after the Campbell game were not thrilled. Siddle should win Saturday against us, but he's 1-5 against Trowson.

My biggest problem is when I watch the CAA this season and last and see a player I'd love to have in a Towson uniform: Trazerian White, Shakeim Phillips, Tyler Thomas, Jameer Nelson Jr., Darlinstone Dubar, Aaron Estrada, Kobe Rodgers, Justin Moore, etc. It's a guard league and a wings league. Can Tejada, Lowery, Williamson or Cole become one of those guys? I'm not seeing it, but I can see one or two of those guys becoming very productive players in the future. We just need that freakin' star and we probably can't get that guy in the portal due to our NIL situation. So we have to develop it. Staff change? Recruiting more shooters? Recruiting less bullies and more athletic and lengthy players in the portal as well?

If you told me during the summer after the legal situation with Conway and the ACL injury to Watson, they'd we'd have a longshot of getting a top four seed in the final weekend, I'd probably be ecstatic, not thinking that we'd lose to Hampton on the road and beat Charleston on the road in the same season. Not trying to make this season half-full, but also trying to put things in perspective.

No one said those wins don’t count. But there have been more bad losses than good wins.  The uncw and Charleston wins were probably 2 of the 5 best in skerrys tenure. That just goes to show how few there have been.

We all would love for a player like that to come here but guess what, they will likely end up middling around 12-13 ppg and not be as good.  I’ve been clamoring for guards since he got here. Guard play is how you win this league. Why is Hofstra always near the top? Fantastic guard play. We need to recruit those northern nj and nyc kids.

besides Charleston are other schools NIL better than ours? Seriously, it’s year 2 of this and we are using this a reason that we can’t get players…

Conways legal situation lead to tarke so again that’s a wash, not like we lost our best player and couldn’t replace him. We were very fortunate to have a quick replacement. Again, another excuse

The long and short of it is Skerry is not a good basketball coach. He ahs had 13 years to win something, even if it is by accident. His offense is dribble for 20 seconds, throw up a bomb and send everyone to get the rebound. His defense is mediocre, but it is a story of keep telling everyone it is good and sooner or later they will believe it.  His teams are good enough to beat bottom feeders and every now and then another mediocre team.  Fundamentals are lacking and basketball IQ has not improved once the talented kids arrive. These are all responsibilities of a coach. These kids have potential, but it needs to be developed. During 13 years, the TU coach is overpaid and under productive. It is sad to see. When the hallmark of the 13 years is good coaching PR....you are in trouble.

Bingo. We have been hanging out hats on the “playing hard” (most of the time) mantra for 13 years.  That’s fine for The first few but after a while there needs to be a better strategy and philosophy.

I’m perfectly fine in California.  I’m the ultimate optimist and I do like PS but I watched the preview and our coach is reaching for loose branches right now.
I don’t want to hear about past accomplishments.  Win now!

Just wanted to make sure 😂. Welcome to the dark side BAT!

NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!! No ifs, ands or buts.

4-11 record in conference tournament; never has won more than 1 game in 11 years of tournament play; never has even made it to the tournament championship game

NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!! No ifs, ands or buts.

No credible, unbiased observer could conclude otherwise. Anyone who does, lacks credibility in my estimation.

It’s stunning to me how anyone, with a straight face, could say an 18-12 regular season, over 13 years, with the postseason futility cited above, is acceptable. It’s NOT GOOD ENOUGH, end of story, full stop

He’s just happy to have a program lol. He forgot to mention that pat wins .54% of his games AND graduates players. Not many others can claim that!
16-12 right now. Can we get to 18 and 12?! That would be nice. But 4-11 and never winning multiple games in March is the deal breaker.

  15. 12 hours ago, Bay Area Tiger said:

Just watched..  I appreciate his efforts but no one cares we’ve won 18 games or more 9 of the past 11 seasons if we win tomorrow night.  Sustainability of a program is great if you know bigger things are ahead but we don’t know that.  Have some nice parts but nothing indicates we will win the CAA anytime soon.

Are you ok? Do we need to send someone to check in on you?

exactly what I was thinking. the MAC will be looking at least for another school to make it 14. the A10 will look for more (mostly) private schools that focus on basketball  - they want to be the big east 2.0. Hofstra, Drexel, Northeastern would all love to go to the A10. (also 2/3 are only in the CAA because of football then dropped the sport)

we continue to get left out because we have no plan.

the CAA is dead - i'd love for us to break away with the other northeast state schools that play FCS and maybe look to move up as a conference to FBS.

    Towson
URI - they don't fit with the private school/basketball only A10
    Stony Brook
    W&M
Albany - upgrade from American East
Maine - upgrade from American East
UNH - upgrade from American East

One to Three of the following
Force Vermont or UNCW to start football to stay relevant
VMI and maybe the The Citadel  (military rivalry)
    Chattanooga
Youngstown State (doubt they leave the MVFC and trash school)

We have no plan and continue to get left in the dust. There’s no good conference for us to join or teams to join ours because we don’t know what we want to be.
URI and Richmond aren’t going anywhere. Hofstra will not be invited, they have nyc market and will be blocked by Fordham. Drexel, see Hofstra. NE probably won’t go, hockey and baseball drive that school.

Uncw and Vermont won’t add football. they can join better conferences based off basketball.  We bring next to nothing, so we are stuck
