Seems like the last scholarship has a good chance to be a D2/JUCO player. Still feels like a lot of options, but more unknowns when it comes to those players. I still wish we would make a place for Maletic, but that doesn't seem to be in the cards. Any specific player thoughts on where we go from here?

Back to the list, which I know has had a few more D-2 guys added to it in the last week or so. I haven't made those updates at this point. I may go back and do that later with the full list I have stored on my computer. Sucks that we could not land Watson. Blakney stands out as the mostly likely on this list. I will still continue to ask what is going on with Marko Maletic, who may not be our type of player but could help open up the offensive a little by filling it up behind the arc. There was some tough competition on the list, but I have heard nothing about him since the initial May 5 tweet saying he had heard from Towson (which I know means pretty little in this process). No big shock. What is our next move? There are some options left, but they are dwindling.

For some reason a lot of the non-conference road games fell just right for me to go to last year. I feel like the UMass game and Penn game might have been the high water marks when everyone was healthy and the team looked like it could seamlessly build off the previous year. I was at the Penn game, and for about 25 minutes we looked really good. The Gibson injury toward the end of that game was obviously somewhat of a turning point in the season. I was also at the Northern Iowa and Bryant games, and man were those ugly. Those both felt like three losses rolled into one, and I was about as negative as I can be in-season about a team I knew had talent after those games. Of course, that is why it is good that they don't listen to us. I like getting in as part of doubleheaders. I know no one ever cares to watch our games in those neutral sites, and thank goodness for the decent amount of Northern Iowa fans or we might have been playing in front of security and about 15-20 other people in that game. However, it is fun to be rolled into those events and often results in solid competition. Bryant is a good regular opponent as a solid America East team that should always be sniffing around the title below Vermont (although they were pretty disappointing last year), and Skerry seems to be well-connected with them from his Rhode Island ties. I do hope they actually come to Towson at some point. Obviously, there are better teams to schedule but they are a solid foundational program to be part of a regular rotation for us to play in non-conference play.

That seems random. Is that part of a bigger day of multiple basketball games like our trip to Chicago was last year? Also, do we get a return game with Bryant at Towson from last year? I was at that game last year and it felt like one of the low points of the season. Bryant was a solid team, but that game, Northern Iowa and probably the second half of the Navy game were the most disjointed performances of the year and made me think the wheels were going to come off. Credit to the players and Skerry that they regrouped and have a relatively successful season.

Yeah, I was concerned about the last part too. About all that we have going for us is that he has played against us twice in conference games where we looked pretty solid and demonstrated why we were a top 3 team in the league. He has familiarity with our team and probably saw what looked like a pretty solid program. Admittedly, I don't think that can do much for us compared to getting more NIL money, playing for a Big East team or being closer to home. Probably not a whole lot, but I am a glass half-full type of guy so I will hold out hope since Temple took away the other two players I was somewhat excited about getting. I was getting annoyed that we lost out on some of our possible targets to Delaware, Stony Brook and Bryant, but I do have to say since that time the guys I thought we might have a shot at in O'Boyle (went to Penn State), Settle (Temple), Riley (Temple) and now Watson have gone to some pretty good programs. That really won't matter if we can't get a solid to good player with this last transfer scholarship.

I actually don't mind the roller coaster of guys that I think might come here and those that don't. What really drives me nuts is that there are certain players that there is just no visit information or updates around ever. I realize there is small handful of people that care about mid-to-low major college basketball transfers, but guys like Tarke and Maletic seem like they could be solid players for us. They are listed as possible visits, then you don't hear anything for months. Then all of a sudden Tarke is going to Nicholls State and Maletic is still MIA. Watson has no updates for about month, then we are listed with him High Point and Richmond. Then all of a sudden Seton Hall comes out of nowhere. By the way, High Point has reeled a pretty solid transfer class of five guys this year so I am not sure I would completely count them out either (although Seton Hall seems like a slam dunk). The moral of the story as usual, don't get to invested in 18-22 year old kids moves and actions, because they don't even know what they are going to do when they wake up tomorrow. I certainly didn't. Still, I love this program too much not to get invested in the ways we have discussed.

It is amazing that just when you think you have tracked all of the options new ones pop up and old ones are still out there from many months ago that seem like they should be gone. TSU88, I think I remember you mentioning Voyles like two months ago. There is a tweet from schools that were after him from April 14th, and I don't think we have heard much since that point. I know we are stuck with the absurdity of the process, but they need to do something to make this timeline a little more concise if legally possible. I wish they would have two months to declare, a month after that to list their top 5-10 choices and then a hard date that everyone had to make a decision by (I know that this exists to some extent). The one upside of all of this transfer craziness is that it makes the college basketball offseason more fun for fans to track. Why not at least attach some dates to it that would make it easier to follow for the diehards out here and not make everyone have to be Twitter and Instagram detectives. This is probably the old man in me talking, but it feels like there is a way to still do right by the programs and student athletes, while making this process more fan-friendly in general. Then again, maybe I am the only one who cares enough to regularly try to track all of this crap.

I listened to this the other day as well. Not sure how much he will or won't be ready to do the job at a high level coming directly form being a student manager, but good for him to get the opportunity. It will be interesting to follow since Northern Arizona will all of a sudden be Chris Russo's favorite team. He was locked in on UConn the last year-plus. Of course, I think people mostly in our age range listen to him and I can't imagine it doing much for anyone under the age of 25. Even when he is on TV I think it only has a limited effect.

I still find it surprising that there is little to no information on Marko Maletic and his visits. Back on May 5 it was reported that he had heard from us, San Jose State, George Washington, IUPUI and San Diego. It seems like we are all-in on the Watson pursuit, which is fine by me. However, with Seton Hall entering the mix there are still a couple of decent back-up plans out there and Maletic is one. He is not really a Skerry-type player, but with all of these grinders and athletes, it would be nice to have a proven (also bigger at 6'6) three-point shooter/scorer (outside of Conway and May) to open up the offense. San Diego, San Jose State and GW feel like they could be hard to beat out, but I agree with those that think since Seton Hall entered the mix for Watson that it makes it incredibly difficult to see him select Towson.

Looks like Henry, Blakney and who knows else might be (might have been) backup plans to Watson. Henry got taken off the board by Louisiana Tech before he could visit Towson today. Weird to see Richmond fall off Watson's list. Sounds like some of the Seton Hall fans were complaining about where they are in NIL, but I am guessing that is relative to be in a top conference where the money is really flying around. Hard to see us beat out Seton Hall for Watson. Only thing I can think of is Watson viewing it from being more a focal point of the offense and seeing quality efforts from Towson playing against them and envisioning himself with the team (clearly this is somewhat of a reach). Guys like Maletic, Williams (although it seemed like he was getting higher interest) and Stulic still on the board, but hard to find any information on who is going after them or where they are considering.

The Skerry extension was excessive, but that type of decision-making was exactly why I didn't want to entrust a football or basketball coaching hire to Tim Leonard as many were demanding. I actually have a decent amount of faith in Steve Eigenbrot's decision-making process and resume he brought to Towson. I think if the men's basketball program is not going in a direction he wants it to he will pull the trigger on Pat Skerry and hire a new coach. However, the conversation about getting rid of Skerry doesn't make sense with what Eigonbrot has seen since he arrived on-campus. The program is 46-21 overall, 27-9 in conference play and won a regular-season conference title in the last two years (I know he caught the tail end of that first year). I get that Skerry has not done what he has needed to in the conference tournament for a prolonged amount of time, and I was pretty close to being with the group that wanted him out a few years ago. However, if you are Eigenbrot (who got here in February 2022) why would you be doing anything else but trying to get him more resources to try to get the program over the hump.

Can't argue too much, especially because any argument I would come up with would be based on information I don't know. This probably helps our depth, but I agree neither is really a go-to player. The reality like Matt said is that anyone that is going to be a go-to player would probably have to emerge from within the existing guys on the roster. Also, any additional depth would have to come from the freshmen surprising us along with whoever the third transfer would be. I will admit there are more questions than answers, but I do think it sounds like there is some depth in talent and athleticism. My main worry is Conway feels like the only proven shooter and I don't know if he will ever be able to get his own shot. May has the highest upside and I feel pretty good about what he can be, but there are a lot of unknowns as to where that journey goes this year.

I have no idea if this is true, but just looking at what we have gotten so far it seems like this team could be more athletic than last year, but probably won't be able to shoot as well. Seems tailored for the banging and physical play Skerry likes, but might be challenged offensively even more often than last year. I also am trying to figure out who the playmaker is right now, because Holden is gone and I don't love our point guards from that perspective. Hicks is the most proven we have in terms of running an offense, and he would need to make a big jump for us to feel confident about him being in that role. Your posts on Watson definitely have me intrigued, but based on what I have seen so far this offseason he still feels like a tough get. The only good part is it feels like we have been in on him for a while, and coming from NC A&T he might have good impressions of what he saw from our program last year playing against us. Blakney feels more likely, but I have no clue what I am talking about.

I won't pretend to be an expert on this, but I have been trying to track these process closely. I think "breadcrumbs" is an inaccurate term to associate with the two guys they have signed so far. I have seen a list where Jones is ranked in the top 125 transfers, and Sulaiman seems like one of the higher quality D-2 transfers (of course we thought Sylla was too) in this year's group from the little I can tell. I would say somewhere in the middle of "breadcrumbs" and "game-changer" would be fair. Maybe I am being too optimistic, but the two guys they have signed seem pretty solid. I won't try to pretend that we are immediate contenders with these players. It seems like a fair amount incoming (and outgoing) talent from transfers and freshmen will be coming to this roster and remains to be seen what it will all look like.

Seems like he would be a good get, but out of the schools listed in the most recent post about him (on May 20) it feels like beating out Richmond (if they are going after him hard) will be very tough to do. I get the sense that we are being aggressive and prioritizing him, but like some of the guys who we got beat out for by Temple sometimes you just get beat out by better programs. I would be annoyed if Northwestern State or High Point beat us out for him. Even though Northwestern State is coming off a pretty good year and I think has been pretty good at landing good transfers, and it sounds like High Point made a pretty good head coach hire this offseason. This sounds realistic but difficult, and it seems like it would be a solid pull if Skerry is able to get Watson to come here.

Agreed. My initial point is those are teams I expect to be able to recruit against and win more often than not (I don't know if I am being realistic or not in that assumption). I know NIL is a consideration and it is hard to figure out where we stand when it comes to other schools that are similar to us in conference and success. I always feel like we are all playing catch up, but I don't know how accurate that is. When we are mentioned in recruiting the same players as those schools I am always interested in knowing what might have tipped the scales, or how hard we (or the other teams) were going after the player. I will never really know that answer, but I am just trying to make as much sense out of the craziness as I can. I do know of the list of D-2 kids remaining that I have seen us mentioned with, Sulaiman seemed like he had the best combo of being an all-conference player and playing for a highly accomplished program. Of course, that didn't do much for us last year when we recruited the National Player of the Year for a highly accomplished team. Seems like with Jones and Sulaiman we will have pretty physical athletes who can play the switching defense that Skerry loves (and drive me crazy at times) employ. As usually, this is crapshoot so I am looking for as many data points as possible, but you don't know until they step on the court. The two transfer so far feel like solid gets. Would love to get someone who can shoot it from behind the arc and play some decent defense with the last spot.

Will be interesting to dig in more on him. TSU88, this was one of the signings (with Bryant) that annoyed me when it happened because there were solid players out there (like him) that we seemed to be losing out to schools like Bryant, Delaware, Hampton, Stony Brook and others. It is one thing to lose NIL battles to College of Charleston, but those schools are either at our level or below us and we need to be able to beat them to players we want. I wonder what changed his mind, and if there is anything that can e read into further about this.

I will be the first one to admit I have no idea who is good or not when it comes to a lot of these guys, but the research helps me to track realistic options. It feels like if we get to D-2 or juco it is a complete crapshoot as was evidenced by the lower level quality we got from a D-2 National Player of the Year compared to some of the other D-2 transfers whose skills were better suited for their new programs.

Didn't event put Mushila, Traylor and Martinez on the list because they seem so far out of our range. Also moved up the guys off the board and bolded the newest ones. I also added some straggles from before. I am actually surprised the Marko Maletic kid from LIU was still out there. Anyways, I don't know why I still do this, but someday we will sign our second and third transfer. I know I have beaten a dead horse, but I was really excited to see what Riley's athleticism could do in this conference. Plus, I think when I look at these guys (especially the high major players) I look to see what situation they have come from at their previous school. I liked that Settle was part of a Howard team that made history and got the the program back to the tournament. I liked Riley, because I saw flashes of what he could do and he was so poorly used by Ewing I thought he could do big things in a system where a coach let him be a featured player. I still feel like someone like Riley can benefit by showcasing his abilities a lot more here at this level than being another player at a little higher of a level, but Temple seems to be a doing a good job in the portal and I am sure he will get a good shot with them.
