    Pros of ESA DC:

    -new arena

    -right size arena

    -centrally located in league footprint

    -very close metro stop

    Cons of ESA DC:

    -awful location within DC

-literally nothing around arena, hotels, bars etc

    -centrally located in league footprint

    -closest school does not travel

-poor concession selection and high prices

    -we play poorly there

We played a lot worse at the Baltimore Arena, and I did actually see a decent amount of fans from different schools hanging out the Navy Yard area when I was down there in 2022. Not sure any of the schools in the conference have the right fanbases to pack a tournament venue. That could probably only happen in North Carolina in the right place.

They used to. It’s been 3 years in each Baltimore, Charleston then dc. Usually make an announcement at the tourney before. This league is so short sighted and awfully ran, we kind of deserve it.
If it isn’t in a truly neural site with no horn court advantage like Baltimore, move it back to Charleston or somewhere in NC. it’ll draw atleast

I remember that they used to do it, but we are going on the fifth season in a row of year-to-year decisions on the tournament. If they aren't going to give an area multiple year commitments and try to build it they may as well just do campus sites like a lot of the other mid-tier mid-major conferences do. I wouldn't like that, but it would make more sense than what they are current doing. Also, you are absolutely correct that if they just want to draw they should just move it back to Charleston.

It may take time, but Shinnick wasn’t hired to go 6-5 every year. I think it might take 2-3 years, but we will be a playoff contender again.

Hopefully we can time being good again with next big shift at our level. I trust the hire, but being successful for a period of time is going to be our best way to be on the right side of any of these conference realignments. I actually do trust the people we have in charge at this point (which was not always true in the past). The list just isn't that long of what we bring to the table. However, our football program did who its potential in early 2010s. We just need to sustain some version of that.

Betting we won’t be in it. Has nothing to do with the name change but the league has gone from one of the top mid majors in football and basketball to a “meh” league with a less than “meh” tv or streaming deal. The only advantage we have over other leagues is the CBS Sports Network deal for about 2-3 regular season games for each school and another if you’re really good in basketball. Hopefully, we also still have the relationship with another entity going through a name change and that’s Monumental Sports, formerly NBC Sports Washington, formerly Comcast Sports Nets, formerly Home Team Sports.

I hope you are right, but the big question what will be what are our options. We don't bring a huge fanbase, so if we are going to make any moves in football in the next 2-3 years we need to put a quality product on the field and be a good program by results standards since unfortunately we don't bring a lot of other tangibles to the table.

  5. I get the reasoning behind this, but if all they are going to do is say the name changed and not change anything else I don't know if it will be all that effective. By not changing the logo and changing the name I feel like they are basically saying "We are changing to Coastal Athletic Association, but call us whatever is convenient for you". I usually just say CAA. None of this really matters that much. I am sure when football season starts I will probably call it the old name a lot by accident.

I’m pretty sure you can get it for 15 a month? Unless they’ve raised their prices that was what I paid jan-march for two months of road hoops games

I have done the same as you, but I think you have to do it through a FloSports link on the CAA website or something like that. I have done it the last two years for hoops, but it wasn't straightforward from what I can remember (but I might be remembering wrong).

Play basketball and watch soccer = heaven

I was wondering what country/league that team was when I first saw it. Good for Cam! I will always root for good things to happen to him. He was a strange player to follow and frustrating at times, but our regular-season record the two years he was here was about as good as any of the D-1 years this program has had, and he definitely played at a pretty high level in the Charleston semifinal game last year where we fell short. His skillset was very unique while he was here. Best of luck to him.

I mean it’s probably the best we’ve had in a while.  Again the local games do nothing for us.  Overall it looks to be pretty good schedule but then Again last years did and it turned out to be dookie

We don’t schedule well. Exude is “we we good and can’t get 1-1 or 2-1”. Ask the other teams around our stature and conference..

I would assume we do ask other teams around our stature and conference, and I am guessing that is how Nicholls State, Bryant and probably Robert Morris came about. We obviously fill in part of the schedule with local games (Coppin State, UMBC and Morgan State) which probably should be one game less, or preferably Navy over Coppin or Morgan (we should really only play one at this point). UMass is a good home game, and I do think Colorado, the Charleston Classic field and South Dakota State are all good matchups.

The last 4-5 years, I feel like Skerry has worked hard to get challenging schedules that give us a chance to have a solid NET if we win them and to try to either play at home against decent competition or play challenging competition on the road. Two years ago it worked pretty welly, last year the teams we played didn't live up to expectations and neither did we. I think this schedule is set up fairly well to do much of the same. I think all of us appreciate that we no longer play crappy D-2 schools, and I think we are all equally impatient as we wait for the first time we get a big win against high quality opposition (UMass was as close as we got last year, but would have been nice to beat Clemson). We get our shot against Colorado, the Charleston field and possibly a really good mid-major win against South Dakota State if they are having a good year. I am just happy the Tigers come to region I live for the second year in a row.

Robert Morris; Morgan; UMass and Nicholls State & a TBD. Not the most scintillating OOC home schedule

Yeah, not too exciting of a home slate. I do think there are some pretty good road/neutral games.

Getting what could be a solid A-10 team in UMass isn't bad, and I think Nicholls State is a fairly respectable program. However, I do agree that none of those are overly exciting. I don't think it is from lack of trying. There just aren't many options out there, and I do think the fact that we have been pretty good the last two years probably makes it even tougher to get those teams to come to Towson. Still, at some point we have to get a some sort of high major team to come to SECU even if we just take a bath on a 2-for-1 (or even a 3-for-1) type deal. I don't advocate doing this regularly, but would be nice to have some sort of big matchup to getting casual fans excited about.

Not exactly a neutral site but still a pretty strong non-con game.  Tweet not embedding correctly -- it's a negotiation to play South Dakota State at the Pentagon in Sioux Falls.

Excellent to have another Towson game find its way to my part of the country. Not exactly around the corner from me, but I should be able to find a way to get there. Pretty similar in magnitude to the Baylor-Gonzaga game that was played there around the same time in 2022.

Ian Martinez was never in play. Has nothing to do with NIL since he’s from Costa Rica.

Agreed. I think we all knew that, but I was always hoping somehow we would magically end up the mix. Still, I think all of us on here knew that wasn't really a possibility.

  12. There might have been a time early on where we thought we had a shot at Kam Woods, but it became pretty apparent a while ago that he was going to a high mid-major or big conference program. As was posted on her about a week ago, there are a lot of CAA Players going to big time programs this offseason. Obviously we know that College of Charleston did fine with incoming transfers, but it will be interesting to see how that all shakes out for the rest of the conference. I am waiting for us to fill our last scholarship before digging around to see what everyone else did this offseason.

Maletic put up 18 against us and Timberlake probably defended or kind of defended him early. Russell slowed him down in the second half. There’s no doubt, Nick is a much better athlete but wasn’t a good defender. I assume Maletic is similar but we survived with two subpar defenders last season.

At this point, you aren’t going to get the perfect player. We couldn’t get that without a boatload NIL money. If someone can find the next D2 Dalton Bolon, Ante Brzovic or Jaylon Scott, be my guest.

The guy hit a threes in 21 of their 24 games last year and scored in double figures in 20 of 24 games. He is definitely someone we can use offensively. I have felt all along that him, Tarke, at one point Watson and a few others were our most realistic options. He played a lot of non-competitive garbage time last year, but as much as I hate highlight reels when you watch it the two things that stick out are he has range and can hit some tough shots. Both of these seem like helpful attributes to our offense. He would be a solid get for Towson.

Maletic could be in the cards.

I hate highlight reels because anyone can look good, but looks like Maletic can hit a lot of the shots Nick hit for us last year, and that he has pretty good range. He is a couple of inches taller than Nick, but doesn't seem nearly as athletic. There is also no evidence of defense in this highlights. Also, with all the hand-wringing of getting D-2 guys, Maletic played on what is probably the equivalent of a mediocre D-2 team. Still, as evidenced in these clips LIU did play some good teams. How seriously those teams guarded Maletic is debatable, but he hit some pretty deep shots in these clips.

I still feel like Maletic would be a good get for us offensively. I just don't know how good we could be defensively if him and Conway were on the court at the same time (event though they are both good shooters). The last mention him associated with Towson or anyone else that I can find is May 5. As you can tell, I am trying to talk this into existence because I feel like he might be the best option remaining.

Seems like the last scholarship has a good chance to be a D2/JUCO player. Still feels like a lot of options, but more unknowns when it comes to those players. I still wish we would make a place for Maletic, but that doesn't seem to be in the cards. Any specific player thoughts on where we go from here?
