That is a tough one. That felt like a solid fit for us. Still feels like Voyles, Tarkes, some of the D2 guys might be the most likely options of what is left out of the list. Here is what I can tell in terms of who is left that we have been linked to (many very loosely:

    Kevon Voyles (UMES) 6-3, 180
    De'Sean Allen-Eikens (CSNU) 6-6, 215
Justin Amadi (James Madison) 6-7, 225
Myles Foster (Monmouth) 6-7, 240 - saw Temple mentioned as one of the teams, but that was from a few weeks ago (I am sure Datres can confirm if this is still going or just an old bad rumor)
    John Korte (Wheeling D2) 6-6, 215
    Kuany Kuany (Cal) 6-9, 200
Josh LeBlanc (many schools) 6-7, 230
Khalid Gates (Slippery Rock) 6-7, 215

    Zayon Marsh (D2 Goldey Beacom) 6-6, 195
    Owen McGashen (D2 Saint Anselm) 6-7, 205
    Kaine McColley (D2 Nova SE) 6-5, 212
    Anthony Morales (Boston U.) 6-8, 195
Bo Montgomery (Holy Cross) 6-5, 193
    Daniel Nixon (GW) 6-7, 225
Pavo Pavlidis (Hartford) 6-8, 220 transfer

Ray Quawndis Mitchell (UMKC) 6-5, 200 - Oklahoma and Penn State mentioned
    Joshua Rivera (Lafayette) 6-2
    Jasmine Sangha (Texas A&M CC) 6-8, 225
    Richie Springs (UConn) 6-9,235
    Brandon Suggs (UCF) 6-6, 185
Nendah Tarke (Coppin) 6-4, 205 - Outdated info, but I see Rutgers mentioned which would make it tough for us
LaTrell Tate (West Florida) 6-0, 165
Josh Uduje (Coastal Carolina) 6-5, 175
Tedrick Wildcox Jr. (St. Francis-NY) 6-6, 185 - sounds like Temple has reached out

    Jordan Wood (Howard ) 6-9, 200
    Kam Woods (NC A&T) 6-2, 185

    Off the Board
    Leo O’Boyle (Lafayette) 6-7, 210 PF/SF 40% 3pt - Penn State
    Joel Brown (Cal) 6-2, 190  - Iona
Clarence Daniels (UNH) 6-6, 225 - Staying at UNH
Javonte Johnson (New Mexico) 6-6 - Colorado State
    Mike Meadows (Portland) 6-2, 175 - Cal

Frankie Policelli (Stony Brook) 6-7, 215 - Charleston
Charles Pride (Bryant) 6-4, 200 - St. Bonaventure
Joshua Rivera (Lafayette) 6-2 - Fordham I believe
TJ Weeks Jr. (UMass) 6-4, 185 - Rider I think

That is a great link! I wish it sorted who was transferring into each team instead of who is leaving, but I get why it is set up the way it is. It really illustrates how many guys are still out there, even though a lot of the top players are gone. I tried to scour all of the guys transferring into each CAA team to put together a full conference list, which also reminded me that Campbell joins next years as well. Here is what I have. It looks like Delaware and Monmouth have the best hauls so far, although Delaware lost a top guy too.

So with two ships still available and Paar likely coming back along with 6-9 freshman Tyler Tejada, do we add a backup big or do we take two wings instead of one?

We need someone who can shoot, but as far as the other scholarship I would take the best player we can get at whatever position and figure out the rest later. Although, with what Jones' game looks like and Thompson's game I do worry we may already have two guys who could take away the fluidity of an offense when they are trying to score. It would also be nice to have some athleticism that can defend. The rotation of Hicks and Conway drove me crazy at times last, because both are really one-sided at what they do well in opposite ways.

With the advent of NIL, the landscape has absolutely changed. I don’t know this for a fact, but I’m guessing that we have very little to offer in that regard, at this point. Absent some corporate benefactors, I don’t see that changing much. As such, it might be necessary to include D2 and JUCO’s in our search.

As for the list you posted, I’m intrigued by Voyles, the UMES guy. There’s also another UMES guy in the portal named Styles, who has interesting numbers. That being said, I wouldn’t be surprised if O’Boyle lands here. He can shoot the 3, but doesn’t appear to be a guy who’s going to be able to put the ball on the floor and create his own shot, and I don’t think he would help much on the glass.

O'Boyle sounds like what we got with Rizzuto. Only I believe Rizzuto came with all-conference credentials of some sort. It worries me that he probably peeked with his 3-pt shooting percentage last year, but maybe something clicked.

I guess I would be interested in knowing what our NIL looks like compared to Delaware, Youngstown State, Stony Brook, Bryant, Vermont and others. I know we are way behind the likes of Charleston (and likely Delaware), but when you see the NIL values of a lot of the low major kids it doesn't look any more out of our league than it does what they have to offer. I mostly understand NIL and all there is to do, but what I don't have a good grasp on outside of the obvious candidates is who is good at it, who is alright at it, and who is terrible at it. We seem to fall in the middle with enough success to get some decent players. However, I have no idea.

Like I said earlier, as a Georgetown fan I loved LeBlanc his freshman year but he only seems to be getting worse since he transferred out of that program. Charles Pride would be a good get, but the names I am seeding reaching out to him are way out of our league. Tarke had some good numbers against us and seems to have some size and athleticism, but don't know enough about him.

After barely playing last season, I would assume (though I could be wrong) that he will have some rust to knock off initially. His minutes will also depend on who comes in via the portal, as with 2 open spots, it’s possible one will go to a big. IMHO, if he avg’s more than say 10ppg next year, we’ve got a problem

I don't think it would be huge problem if he plays a similar amount of time that he did in 2021-22 if he can knock the rust off. Like I said, he probably could have averaged 13-15 minutes per game in 2021-22 if he could have cut down on the fouls. I don't want to make him sound like he is the key to us doing well, but we can be fine with him playing as a back up center and coming in when Thompson gets in foul trouble, needs a breather, or if we want to go big.

I am more concerned about getting shooter/scorer (on this team, O'Boyle from Lafayette jumps out) and an overall athlete that can help us out. To me, when Coleman plays too many minutes that is when I know we are in trouble with our interior players.

Looks like another potential transfer off the board. Props to Jake Shindel, who seems to be one of the more active Towerlight reporters in recent memory. He seems to have developed some sources, which is usually something college newspaper reporters are still figuring out during their development.

Feels like a disappointment to lose out to someone who chooses Hampton (possibly instead of us). I am always fairy optimistic about getting quality out of the transfer process, but some of the school's we have lost out to makes me feel like the climate has drastically changed since our 2021 transfer haul.

Shamir Bogues (Tarleton St.) - I thought we might have a shot, but Vermont is a better destination in terms of program history
Gerald Drumgoole (Albany) commits to Delaware - if we tried to get him and Delaware beat us that is blow. It is somewhat unclear.
Ziggy Reid (Merrimack) commits to Youngstown State - This seemed like a realistic get. Not sure how high he was on our list, but feels like we should be able to compete with Youngstown State.
Andre Snoddy (CCSU) commits to Stony Brook - We should be able to beat out Stony Brook, but again hard to tell. I do believe Stony Brook will be good in this conference in the next couple of years.
Tomiwa Suliamon (IUP) commits to Bryant - Another program it fees like we should be on even footing against in these recruiting battles.

Feels like out of some of the remaining targets these feel like the most realistic and best (who am I missing?).

Josh LeBlanc (many schools) 6-7, 230

    Leo O’Boyle (Lafayette) 6-7, 210 PF/SF 40% 3pt
Frankie Policelli (Stony Brook) 6-7, 215
    Charles Pride (Bryant) 6-4, 200
    Joshua Rivera (Lafayette) 6-2
    Nendah Tarke (Coppin) 6-4, 205
    Kevon Voyles (UMES) 6-3, 180
TJ Weeks Jr. (UMass) 6-4, 185

This now makes Paar & Coleman returning easier to digest, as someone has to be the 12th and 13th players off the bench.

If healthy, I do think Paar is a little more than a 12th or 13th player off the bench. He averaged 3.4 ppg, 2.7 rpg, shot 52.5% from the field, and was ninth on the team in minutes. I am not saying he will be a starter or anything, but he is probably the only true big man we have outside of Charles (who isn't really one himself). Paar's biggest issue was committing 66 fouls in 377 minutes, but he was a decent complementary piece on what was probably our greatest regular-season team in D-1 school history.

  8. I know PER is not the greatest stat in the world to completely judge players from, but it is one measure. When you go the link below they have an adjusted efficiency ranking based on PER (they even admit PER has a high bias for high FG pct. big men) and level of competition. Jones is ranked 86th on this list.

Also, when you look at PER numbers on their list of 300 players only seven players are ranked higher than Johnson. Those players are:

Keegan Records, Colgate (30.6 PER, 13 ppg, 6 rpg, 67.5% FG)
Josh Cohen, St. Francis to UMass (30.6 PER, 21.8 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 58.5% FG)
Dame Adelekun, Dartmouth to Loyola (Chi.) (30.6 PER, 13.8 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 56.3% FG)
Hunter Dickinson, Michigan (28.4 PER, 18.5 ppg, 9.0 rpg, 56.0%FG)
Jordan Minor, Merrimack to Virginia (28.0 PER, 17.4 ppg, 9.4 rpg, 51.5% FG)
Jesse Edwards, Syracuse to West Virginia (27.5 PER, 14.5 ppg, 10.3 rpg, 59.2% FG)
    BJ Mack, Wofford (27.1 PER, 16.6 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 49.2 %)
Messiah Jones, Wofford to Towson (26.8 PER, 9.8 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 57.2%)

Very meh get. But I guess he’s replacing sekou so he can’t be worse (God, or should I messiah, I hope not).

Still have to much dead weight on this roster.

Do like that we are moving out to Chicago.  Now let’s go after the hotbed in nyc

I could see the comparison in style of game to Sylla, but Jones looks more athletic and seems to be a better finisher. Admittedly, I am only judging that from seven minutes of curated YouTube clips but also the fact that he shot 57.2 pct from the field against similar competition last year compared to 48.8% for Sylla. I do agree there needs to be at least two more impact players, and one hopefully at first or second-team all-conference level (in a comparable conference) for us to have realistic aspirations of being similar to the last couple of years. There is still plenty of time to do that. Of course, that doesn't guarantee it will happen, but I will wait until at least mid-May before having too much judgement since there are still a boatload of players out there.

The other concert I have with Jones and Thompson in the same lineup is that is two guys who are mostly playing 10 feet and in from the basket, and similar to Thompson, Jones looks he has very deliberate and lengthy post moves. Does seem like a solid finisher at the basket, which we sorely needed on a lot of occasions last year.

Good start to the transfer signings, but still a lot or work to do.

Have we landed any transfers yet?

    Not that I can tell.

Even as we prepared for the 2021-22 season, we landed a couple in early April, one in late April and one in early May. I am not worried about the timing, but am worried if we miss out on a lot of our targets.

I was scanning the list that Mat put together a couple of weeks ago and only handful of those guys have made a decision. Several of those made decisions to go schools that were in better conferences than the CAA. I am not trying to optimistic or pessimistic here, it just feels like it will be hard to sort most of this out until mid-to-late May and we are not even close to the only teams in this circumstance.

  12. I know the program usually posts these at least couple of days if not a week later than when they actually happen, but here is chronological order of when our transfers signed going into the 2021-22 season. Hopefully we will get someone within the next week. I don't necessarily care about the timing as I do the quality and fits. Hopefully some of that will fall into place. The double-edged sword is there are still a lot of players out there, which means a lot of studs and duds. Hopefully, we can come close to duplicating 2021-22 efforts. It still out there to be done, but man there is also a lot of fools gold lying around too.

I really liked Josh Leblanc as a Georgetown fan when he was there, and we have had decent success with past Georgetown transfers. He was athletic, active, and had a decent shot. However, I am cautious on him because it looks like he hasn't been all the productive since transferring from Georgetown.

Seems somewhat intriguing and realistic. Averaged 14.2 ppg and 4.1 rpg last year, was Second-Team All-Conference, made the NEC All-Tournament team (which Merrimack won against Farleigh Dickinson, and he averaged 23.7 ppg and shot 65.8% from the field and 66.7%). I worry a little bit about him being a high volume three-point shooter with not-so-great percentages, but he seems like a guy who is transferring mostly to move up a level and obviously because he has an extra year.

He was a solid mid major who did a lot of things well. Defending was not one. He will make a great overseas player and will make good money doing sp

That is a fair assessment. I feel like he is similar to a lot of modern players in that he is fairly solid at one-and-one defense and defensive instincts when it comes to gambling to get steals (this was his main strength, and we will likely miss some of these momentum changing plays next year). I think he really struggled at team defense principles and often was late or at times non-existent at rotating out to guard perimeter players. This was not ideal for our defense when it was heavily predicated on switching.

Just because Cam is not an NBA talent, doesn’t mean he wasn’t a very productive player for us. He did lead the league in assists and I can’t remember the last time a Towson player did that. Needs to work on handle, left hand, body, jumper, free throw shooting and defense.

His defense is interesting. I think he actually has te potential to be a very good defender on the perimeter. He has great anticipation, and is excellent at jumping in passing lanes to get steals. I also think he does a solid job at using his size against players quicker than him to keep up. When he was locked in he did this pretty well.

I feel like more physical players who have a good post game can back him down fairly easily and score, but if they are just backing him down to be physical I think he was pretty solid. You need good post moves in general to score on him. All this can be canceled out when isn't motivated, which did happen during chunks of both seasons. However, I do think overall when he is locked in his defense is above average. That "when" part is big key.

The other struggle towards the end of the season as the games were getting a little chippy is he went a little bit over the edge and did some weird things in games. I am sure he can figure that out, but he just needs to turn the page when he gets beat and not let it get to him. Like you said, none of this really adds up to anything close to an NBA Player, but if he wants to there is definitely a solid overseas career that he could carve out to make some money.

I always found it interesting that Skerry thought he could be a coach someday. I don't know if I saw that. There are very few players that could go back and forth from play to play with some of the dumbest and smartest decisions I have seen paired so closely together. That stretch right before conference play was so beneath his talent level it was depressing to watch, but I give him a lot of credit for digging out of it and finshing strong.

Ok I also declared for NBA Draft

A lot of players do this knowing they have no shot at getting drafted. I think he knows that too, but he has to put it out there. At least he can possibly get invited to a camp testing himself against NBA caliber players. I don't think any of us can do that. Best wishes to Cam. I don't know where his journey will take him, but I hope we finds a good next stop to build on some of what we he did here at Towson.

I'd rather take a very productive mid-major because when you have two ships available and I'm not taking that risk unless they think he's a HR. I'm taking the risk if we have 3 ships or more available. Maryland had no bench this season and I get if he's maybe too slow or doesn't defend well enough for that level. It's not like Carey and Martinez were All-Americans ahead of him. He's not small at 6-6, 190 though it looks like he could add a few pounds of muscle.

I definitely trust those who watch Maryland more than I do, but at least in Carey's case I know Willard saw him up close for a couple of years as one of the few consistently productive and experienced players at Georgetown and probably played it safe in his first year at Maryland by bringing him in to be a stabilizer. Even Martinez seemed to have a lot more experience. This is a tough environment now for freshmen who are not elite right away because there is such a backlog of experienced players that coaches tend to prefer. Not saying Cornish is anything special, but I think these are some of the inefficiencies of the transfer portal we can cash in on if we like the players and/or having previous connections.

Well, there’s some logic to looking at him. Local guy, big time recruit out of HS, and he played in HS with a guy currently on our team. If you get a guy like this though, I think it makes it even more of an imperative that any other guys we bring in from the portal be proven. A kid like Cornish might be high reward, but he’s damn sure high risk

Agreed, someone like this could work if you can also land a first or second team All-Conference guy from a mid-major (easier said then done). People act like that is a heavy lift for Skerry to accomplish, but as much as I stick up for him this is the current climate of college hoops and a big part of his job now is working the portal to land talent. If you can't do that off two of our most successful seasons in the conference when can you do it.

I think Cornish seems like a risk, but a decent target. The portal is such a weird mix of waiting for the right player, but making sure you strike before everyone gets to the targets you want. A lot of these players seem like they have higher end options than us, and we will just have to wait for the pool to shrink a little or for the absolute perfect connection to pop up. This definitely makes mid-major recruiting a heckuva a lot more interesting than it used to be.

I probably wouldn't take any bench players from Maryland, but here is one we offered and he's from Baltimore

He might be worth considering. High-end top 100 kid who seems to have some size and athleticism. This is where the conversation potential high-end/high risk guys vs. proven mid-major guys comes into play. Of course, I defer to those who are local and probably know more than I do about Cornish.

I think you also need to remember that when Pete Carrill started his offense, there was no three point line and actually there was no shot clock. It has evolved to take advantage of his principles and yet adapt to today's rules. I agree with a previous poster....Layups and Free Throws win basketball games....more often than not.

I agree, it has evolved quite a bit over the years, to the point where calling it the Princeton offense is almost inaccurate (except for referring to the evolutions). That was my point in bringing up Georgetown because that was the first time that I recall that a program with high-major talent mostly ran that offense. For the most part it had good results.

I agree on the layups and free throws, but if you don't have good spacing you want get those or any of the other shots you want. One thing that drives me crazy about modern college basketball is the insistent of leaning into the glamor of hitting the tough three-point. That being said, an offense that consistently gets good shooters open looks from efficient three-point spots can be highly effective. To me the offense is more about dictating to the defense what shots you want and get, and giving yourself space. The Princeton Offense can definitely be an effective tool to get this done, but is obviously not for every team.
