Definitely intrigued! Go Tigers!
-
Admittedly, I've not been paying full attention to our incoming transfer situation. Yet, I get the impression, that in all reality, we may just end up with some transfer portal "crumbs" when all is said & done? No game-changing players coming to Towson via the portal. Is this a fair or accurate assessment?
-
I thought I laid out some of the specifics within the post itself i.e. expanding our recruiting geography, aggressive activity in the portal, qualified/experienced coaches.
-
Obviously, I have no idea how the things will go under this new coaching regime but I can't help but feel that for the first time, in a very long time, there's some positive momentum about this program.....that there's a sound strategy in place to improve recruiting and build some buzz about the program.....that we're finally doing some of the things that other programs have been doing for years to help generate awareness and interest among players from all over the map. I feel like we've finally busted out of the isolated bubble of recruiting that we had been trapped in for so many years. I feel good about the future of Towson football.

Do we pull for Delaware in the Tournament in solidarity & pride in the CAA or hope they get steamrolled sooner than later?
-
Speaking of the last coach, do we think he will be on college football sidelines come this fall in some capacity?
-
Have we landed any transfers yet?
-
Well, looks like my concerns (hopes) that Holy Cross would take Pat off our hands have been put to rest (dashed) with the hiring of Dave Paulsen. Guess it really is full steam ahead with Skerry in 2023. Go Tigers!

Anything noteworthy happening in spring ball?

Taking a look at our most recent/current roster it’s overwhelmingly local/regional. I don’t know what our (i.e. Pat’s) chances are of convincing kids from Milwaukee, Dallas, Los Angeles, etc. to come to Towson. I’m not sure a lot of talented kids are clamoring to transfer to Towson. That’s why it’s hard for me to get too excited by some of the posts on this thread about a portal player that’s “heard from Towson”…..along with 14 other schools including the likes of Vanderbilt, Clemson, Butler, etc….

St. Francis College in Brooklyn is dissolving their athletic department. They currently play in the NEC (with FDU). Looked at their roster and they have a couple of local/regional kids....a 6'8" Forward from Wilmington Delaware and a 6'3" guard from Baltimore. Not sure if they're any good but they're available. 2022-2023 Men's Basketball Roster - St. Francis Brooklyn Athletics (sfcathletics.com) St. Francis (Brooklyn) to drop NCAA D-I athletic program (espn.com)

Sorry to beat a dead horse but does anyone know for a fact that Holy Cross and Pat Skerry aren't feeling each other out even a little? No exploratory conversations at all? I can't help but feel like HC would at least lob in a call to Pat to take his temperature on the opportunity. They have deeper pockets than Towson and could possibly make him an offer he can't refuse if they really wanted him. Has anyone even heard from Pat recently?
-
Skerry is definitely on the radar of Holy Cross fans to some degree.....his name shows up several times on their fan chat board in the thread "New Coach?" The second page of the thread has a lot of fan banter about Pat. Seems like he's mostly a popular choice for HC fans. Coaching Candidates - Short List | Crossports (freeforums.net)

Holy Cross is looking for a new men's head basketball coach. I wonder if any native New England coaches would be interested......just thinking out loud here.
-
I don't use them simply as examples. Wofford has been to the NCAA Tourney FIVE times in the last 12 years.......Manhattan FOUR times in the last 20 years. Significantly better than our beloved Tigers. If the path to the NCAA Tourney is easier in those conferences why wouldn't Pat consider it? Yes, the overall conferences may not be as high-profile as the CAA (which even that is debatable at this point) but those individual programs have had more exposure and success than Towson has in relation to the big dance.
-
Apologies in advance if this scenario has already been addressed in a different thread but have we considered a situation where Pat Skerry is poached by another school in this upcoming coaching carousel? Take a look at the list that has already started to grow of programs that are in the market for a new coach.....is it impossible to think that a Manhattan or a Wofford wouldn't consider Pat as a viable option.....that they could get fixated on his "great run of 20 win seasons".... Take a look at the teams in the "Other Openings" .....the list will continue to grow.....maybe one of them can take Pat off our hands. What's left to be said at this point? This is exactly how I knew this season would end all the way back in October. Under Pat Skerry this program has gone from abysmal to competitive to now stale and stuck-in-neutral. It's not unreasonable to think it could start going in reverse soon. Bit of a bell-curve model. Some people want to believe that we're just one key playmaker away from getting over the hump. Pat's had 10 years to find that true difference making player and it hasn't happened yet, why would we think Pat's going to get this guy for the 2023-24 season? And even if he does land a transformational player, I'm not convinced he would know what to do with him or how to use him. The player's change from year-to-year, occasionally there's a new assistant coach.....the one constant has been Pat Skerry. This program is in desperate need of a radical shift in mindset, a different leadership voice and a different way of doing things, cause the Pat Skerry way ain't working. Pat's definitely elevated the image and credibility of the program and I would think we could compete for some pretty impressive up & coming head coaches. Time to capitalize on our respectability and get a solid new coach before we start to go in reverse and find ourselves back where we started when Pat first arrived. -
Make no mistake though, CAA leadership is pulling hard for CofC….certainly not publicly but the Commish believes a better $$$$ opportunity for the league with a deeper tourney run with Charleston than with Towson/UNCW.

A very valid point.

I will be wearing my Tiger throwback #14 Gary Neal jersey this evening. Pat Skerry, make me regret everything I’ve said about your coaching acumen over the last 6 years tonight.

Unraveling over a 4-5 game stretch is a given with all Pat Skerry teams. This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone who follow Towson hoops. Let's all pray this team somehow defies the odds and finds a way to put together their best run of the season in D.C. I desperately want to eat crow about Pat Skerry. -

Just thinking back to the Clemson game and how some people were fuming over that loss because they felt as though that could factor for a potential At-large bid for Towson to the NCAA Tournament. At-large....that's cute. 🤣 #PatSkerrySquads -

Death, taxes and underperforming Skerry teams. Amazing that Skerry acknowledged that "not finishing" is the team's "M.O.".....that perfectly summarizes not just this team's season but Skerry's entire Towson career.
