    2023 Offers/Commits/Transfers

A random & fairly irrelevant observation but looking at the most current TU roster I think I only count 6 guys from the great state of New Jersey. It felt like close to 1/3 of the team were Jersey dudes in my era of late 90's early 2000's. Some amazing football talent in Jersey, hope those high school relationships are still intact. Go Tigers!

I can't wait for the season to start! There's something exciting about not knowing exactly what we have as a team. Could year one under Shinnick be a complete roll of the dice and/or train wreck? Sure, and he gets an understandable free pass if it is. However, could there be a little bit of first-year magic where this collection of transfers, vets, walk-ons and unknowns catches some teams sleeping and manages to win a lot more games than most would expect? I wouldn't be surprised if that's also the case. On a completely unrelated note, I may be most excited for Towson's switch from being a Pepsi school to a COCA-COLA school!! That in itself is a BIG win!!

In this wild age of "big-boy" conference realignment why not look to grow the CAA too. SoCon programs like Chattanooga, Mercer and Furman would be solid additions to the CAA.....respectable football and/or basketball programs that would help expand the geographic footprint of our conference.

    Mark Ginsberg named new President

I think it matters to a degree. A president who is either or indifferent, or even worse, unsupportive of athletics (read: football) can present hurdles for progress. Generally speaking, successful sports programs have Presidents that are in lockstep with the AD and the vision that they have. On a scale from 1-10, what is Dr. Ginsberg's interest and appetite for Towson having championship programs? Some "esteemed" members of academia and university leadership look down their nose at the athletic programs. I just want to know that he's not one of them.

    Mark Ginsberg named new President

A very interesting choice. Seems like he's more than qualified on the academic leadership side. I wish him nothing but the best and unprecedented success in leading our beloved university. As it relates to this forum, what are we getting as far as an NCAA athletics-supportive and competent president? Mason, if it is anything, is a "basketball school", but even they have been a bit up & down over recent years. With no football at Mason what will President Ginsberg's perspective be on fielding a competitive football program? I would love to learn more about his relationship and experience in collegiate athletics and how he views their importance and relevancy.

    2023-24 Transfer Thread

(WARNING: I'm about to beat a dead horse) While I don't disagree with the premise that a couple of key new players can carry a program and get hot in the tournament, you cannot lose sight of the fact that our coach remains the same. So while it's fun to keep tabs on the comings & goings of players from program to program and it's theoretically a reason for optimism, it's all for naught if the coach consistently comes up short regardless of the roster talent. If you have a chance to chat with Coach Skerry this summer can you please ask him, in all sincerity and with the greatest degree of respect, what he and his staff do in the off season to get better at their craft? Do they attend coaching clinics? Does he spend time visiting other coaches/programs to compare notes, study film, discuss philosophies? What is he doing to evolve as a head coach? You can give him Kentucky's starting 5 but if he doesn't know how to use them or put them in the best position to win, at critical moments in a game, they won't realize their ultimate potential. Go Tigers!

    2023 General Football News

At the gym today I spotted a guy wearing a West Florida Football t-shirt. He looked to be in his mid/late 40s so I knew he wasn't a former player there but maybe had a kid on the team. I asked him what his connection was to the program and he said he was a former baseball player at UWF and a current booster to the athletic program. He spoke glowingly about Pete Shinnick and said we got "an absolute steal" by landing him. He knew UWF wasn't going to be able to keep him and that it was inevitable that he was going to get poached by a larger program. This guy is convinced Towson has the right guy.

Top 10 players in the Skerry era

Were there two different John Davis' that played under Skerry? You have John Davis at 6 and at 9. Guessing you meant Gibson?

    2023-24 Transfer Thread

Admittedly, I've not been paying full attention to our incoming transfer situation. Yet, I get the impression, that in all reality, we may just end up with some transfer portal "crumbs" when all is said & done? No game-changing players coming to Towson via the portal. Is this a fair or accurate assessment?

    2024 Football offers/commits

I thought I laid out some of the specifics within the post itself i.e. expanding our recruiting geography, aggressive activity in the portal, qualified/experienced coaches.

    2024 Football offers/commits

Obviously, I have no idea how the things will go under this new coaching regime but I can't help but feel that for the first time, in a very long time, there's some positive momentum about this program.....that there's a sound strategy in place to improve recruiting and build some buzz about the program.....that we're finally doing some of the things that other programs have been doing for years to help generate awareness and interest among players from all over the map. I feel like we've finally busted out of the isolated bubble of recruiting that we had been trapped in for so many years. I feel good about the future of Towson football.

Well, looks like my concerns (hopes) that Holy Cross would take Pat off our hands have been put to rest (dashed) with the hiring of Dave Paulsen. Guess it really is full steam ahead with Skerry in 2023. Go Tigers!

    2023-24 Transfer Thread

Taking a look at our most recent/current roster it’s overwhelmingly local/regional. I don’t know what our (i.e. Pat’s) chances are of convincing kids from Milwaukee, Dallas, Los Angeles, etc. to come to Towson. I’m not sure a lot of talented kids are clamoring to transfer to Towson. That’s why it’s hard for me to get too excited by some of the posts on this thread about a portal player that’s “heard from Towson”…..along with 14 other schools including the likes of Vanderbilt, Clemson, Butler, etc….

St. Francis College in Brooklyn is dissolving their athletic department. They currently play in the NEC (with FDU). Looked at their roster and they have a couple of local/regional kids....a 6'8" Forward from Wilmington Delaware and a 6'3" guard from Baltimore. Not sure if they're any good but they're available. 2022-2023 Men's Basketball Roster - St. Francis Brooklyn Athletics (sfcathletics.com) St. Francis (Brooklyn) to drop NCAA D-I athletic program (espn.com)

    General MBB Thread 2022-23

Sorry to beat a dead horse but does anyone know for a fact that Holy Cross and Pat Skerry aren't feeling each other out even a little? No exploratory conversations at all? I can't help but feel like HC would at least lob in a call to Pat to take his temperature on the opportunity. They have deeper pockets than Towson and could possibly make him an offer he can't refuse if they really wanted him. Has anyone even heard from Pat recently?

    General MBB Thread 2022-23

Skerry is definitely on the radar of Holy Cross fans to some degree.....his name shows up several times on their fan chat board in the thread "New Coach?" The second page of the thread has a lot of fan banter about Pat. Seems like he's mostly a popular choice for HC fans. Coaching Candidates - Short List | Crossports (freeforums.net)

    General MBB Thread 2022-23

I don't use them simply as examples. Wofford has been to the NCAA Tourney FIVE times in the last 12 years.......Manhattan FOUR times in the last 20 years. Significantly better than our beloved Tigers. If the path to the NCAA Tourney is easier in those conferences why wouldn't Pat consider it? Yes, the overall conferences may not be as high-profile as the CAA (which even that is debatable at this point) but those individual programs have had more exposure and success than Towson has in relation to the big dance.

    General MBB Thread 2022-23

Apologies in advance if this scenario has already been addressed in a different thread but have we considered a situation where Pat Skerry is poached by another school in this upcoming coaching carousel? Take a look at the list that has already started to grow of programs that are in the market for a new coach.....is it impossible to think that a Manhattan or a Wofford wouldn't consider Pat as a viable option.....that they could get fixated on his "great run of 20 win seasons".... Take a look at the teams in the "Other Openings" .....the list will continue to grow.....maybe one of them can take Pat off our hands.
