    New Coach Thread

I make this suggestion based on a hunch that he’s not going to be with UT much longer. I don’t think Flood is the OC that UT is banking on to take them back to national championship relevance. I think his days are numbered at Texas but he’d be a great get for a program like Towson.

    New Coach Thread

If we’re now accepting of the idea that FBS/P5 coordinators are a legitimate option, I would like to submit Kyle Flood as a candidate. He’s currently OC at Texas which just feels like a short-lived stint and an odd fit to begin with. UT isn’t setting the world on fire (no fault of his honestly) and they change coaches there at the drop of a hat. He’s an east coast/northeast guy with good coaching chops having been at Rutgers and an official “graduate” of the Nick Saban School of Coaching Reformation. At 51 he’s hardly over the hill and I don’t see him being a hot candidate for many P5 head coaching gigs. Maybe he gets a shot at a mid-major FBS program in the MAC, C-USA or American but why not give the guy a call and let him tell you “no”.

    Ambrose let go

Rob was/is a tremendous position coach and offensive coordinator. Not every great coordinator makes for a great head coach. I believe his time at Towson prior to being HC and his time at UConn are indicative of his value as a coordinator. He can easily transition to an OC at a Group 5 school and even a lesser Power 5 school. Just don’t think his demeanor and personality are well suited for a head coaching gig. He’s a Tiger for life and his success should not be discounted. Just wasn’t able to sustain any momentum. Onward & upward, Tigers!

Timberlake leads MBB to 67-55 win over UMass

I'm not sure attributing TOs to bad passing, not being on the same page and slippery hands makes me feel better.

Timberlake leads MBB to 67-55 win over UMass

Great win with some very impressive performances. We look as athletic across the board as we ever have. However, the turnovers are brutal and concerning. I don't know how Skerry gets it under control but we can't expect to have almost 20 TOs and continue to win. I feel like this has been a nagging issue with most Towson teams in recent years. Can we please keep the TOs to single digits??

    New Coach Thread

Fair enough, certainly a long-shot but not an altogether crazy idea that the guy might want a crack at a HC gig somewhere he's familiar with both geographically/competitively. With that being said, here's my last entry into my pro bono head coach head-hunting service for Towson.... Justin Roper, OC at Furman. A young guy but some good experience. Interestingly, has spent time on staffs run by two guys who have already been suggested as possible replacements for RA on this thread: Holy Cross (Bob Chesney) and Slippery Rock (Shawn Lutz). Admittedly he might not have the strongest ties to the mid-Atlantic recruiting scene but I wouldn't necessarily say that should be a deal breaker for anyone. I want to throw another name into my very unofficial wish-list of hypothetical head coaching candidates... Warren Ruggiero, current OC at Wake Forest. A former QB and 1998 grad of Delaware. He's coached at Elon, William & Mary and Hofstra....more recently Kansas State and Bowling Green. He's a native north Jersey guy, so in addition to his CAA roots, he knows our recruiting area and conference well. Warren Ruggiero - Football Coach - Wake Forest University Athletics (godeacs.com)

    New Coach Thread

Came across this guy's profile and thought there was enough interesting & relevant experience that he might be worth a look. Most notably, he was OC for JMU for a few seasons within the last few years and was the HC of Miami of Ohio during the Big Ben years. Maybe he'd like another shot at running a program as a HC? Maybe not a very "sexy" prospect but seems to have good coaching "chops". Shane Montgomery - Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks - Football Coaches - University at Buffalo (ubbulls.com)

    2022 General Football News

So Kennesaw State, a football program that is only 7 years in its existence, is likely to join Conference USA. Let that sink in. KSU, as an overall university, is an excellent comp to Towson. A suburban school in a major metropolitan area that has a long-standing reputation as a "commuter school"......largely overlooked by the Atlanta news & social channels......not even in the same stratosphere as UGA football and a distant second in Atlanta behind Georgia Tech football. Obviously, pro sports teams in Atlanta also clobber KSU in terms of local cheering interest. I don't think KSU has a full stadium for their home games. Maybe better than Towson, but their stadium is of comparable size to Johnny U. I can't imagine their financial resources are substantially deeper than those of Towson's. Heck, they even wear the same colors as Towson. And yet, here they are, on the verge of a massive promotion only SEVEN years after launching the football team. I wonder what it could be that separates the two programs??? Perhaps consistent on-field success as a result of competent coaching and strong recruiting? Maybe ambitious and driven leadership in the athletic department and at the highest levels of university leadership? Amazing what can happen when a mid-tier school doesn't just sleep-walk through its obligations to its student athletes. KSU & JMU football have blown past Towson. Other schools are/will as well until we get serious about making meaningful changes.

    2022 General Football News

I guess that’s my point. Who the hell cares how many fans show up to the games. I would rather go 12-0 in an empty Johnny U. than go 2-10 with an average of 8,000 fans in attendance. Villanova finds a way to be competitive most years despite a much smaller student enrollment than TU.

I've got a new name to throw in the mix for future HC consideration. Tyler Bowen, OC at Virginia Tech. Played his college ball at Maryland and evidently had a cup of coffee with Towson in 2013 as our TE coach. Appears to have a good mix of coaching experience at all levels, FCS, FBS and NFL. Maybe worth a look?? Tyler Bowen - Football Coach - Virginia Tech Athletics (hokiesports.com)

Meanwhile, James Madison is about to be ranked a Top 25 team in FBS. Good for them! I respect a well-run, well-coached, strongly supported program.

    The Early List

All fair points. For the record, Bob Chesney himself came to Holy Cross from where?.......DII Assumption. We should explore ALL options regardless of level. Let's just be sure to get ourselves someone who knows how to win football games.

    The Early List

Totally understand that Towson AD can lean on his connections at South Carolina but to your previous point, I think it would be a tough sell for an assistant coach in the SEC to make the move to Towson. SEC money is really, really good, even for assistants and SEC assistants generally hold out for better opportunities than what they would most likely consider Towson to be. The more I think about it, the more I believe Towson MUST secure a coach with a proven track record of winning. Can't take a chance on an unproven head coach. TU is at a crossroads with its program and needs to get the closest thing to a sure thing. That's why I'm intrigued by the Slippery Rock head coach, Shawn Lutz, as a prospect......or someone with a similar resume as his. We can't expect a coaching staff to teach our players how to win if they haven't won themselves as coaches.

I guess the Pat Skerry sample size isn't quite big enough for you? How many more seasons should he get to finally get over the hump? Honest question.

    New Coach Thread

I'm sure we could collectively come up with a pretty extensive list of coaching names that we'd like to see at Towson, in the event the Ambrose era comes to an end......eventually. Some of those names will be wishful thinking as I don't know that our recent history or our budget will allow for a well-established/accomplished veteran coach to come in and save the day. I found two names that could be interesting. One, a very young guy with ties to some successful programs and the other, a proven veteran coach at the DII level. The first is Rick Bowie, OC at DII powerhouse Valdosta State. Young guy with experience on Dana Holgerson's staffs at WVU & Houston and maybe more importantly, connections with Baltimore prep school football (St. Frances & Gilman). Obviously, he's still very young and maybe not quite enough experience but sometimes you need to roll the dice and take a chance. Rick Bowie - Offensive Coordinator / Quarterbacks - Football Coaches - Valdosta State University Athletics (vstateblazers.com) My second candidate and perhaps a longshot is Slippery Rock HC Shawn Lutz. Dude has a .774 winning percentage as a HC in seven years. He knows the MD/DC, PA, NJ recruiting area very well. I would like to think Towson could find the $$ to make it enticing for him to leave Slippery Rock. Shawn Lutz - Football Coach - Slippery Rock University Athletics (rockathletics.com) I'm sure I'll come across some other names in the weeks ahead that could be worth considering. Go Tigers!

    2022 Summer Camp Thread

Been a minute for me....hope everyone on here is doing well. I know he's probably a long shot to contribute this season but any word on if Lukkas Londono is getting any meaningful reps in camp at WR? The kid is from around my way in NJ and would love to see a local kid make some noise for the Tigers. Supposed to be a speedster.....maybe some kick return opportunities this year? Looking forward to the upcoming season.....GO TIGERS!!

    2022 Spring Football

Selfishly, I would love to see TU schedule more OOC games with schools down south to make it easier to get to a game. Why not look at getting games with Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Furman, Chattanooga, Kennesaw St., etc......could help expand the brand and our recruiting base.

    General MBB thread 2021-22

Is there any "bracketology" scenario that has us playing in Greenville in the first round?? Would LOVE to make the quick 2 hour drive up to G'ville to see the Tigers play......while sporting my #14 Neal Towson jersey. Please close the deal, Tigers. For the love of God, please.

MBB dominates No. 1 UNCW 79-55

While I am critical of Coach Skerry, I don't think I'm unfair and so he deserves credit when credit is due. That was a great, confidence-inspiring win. Great job from top to bottom. Keep it going, boys! Do NOT take your feet off the gas. Go Tigers!
