I have a more optimistic view for next year...no worse than 7-4.  A lot of young players got experience this year and that will pay off.  Stover has a year under his belt and will make huge strides this off season.  Goes without saying, but as with all teams,  staying healthy will be key.  I would like to see more up-tempo, no-huddle offense.

Agreed. No reason couldn't have gone 6-5 this year... I see improvements... Still would like to see an OC change.

I agree to some extent that tailgating contributes to the overall college football experience. The kids out there on the field would love to play in front of a packed house routing them on. What's the point of home field advantage if no one sits in the stands. Yes, the policies did negatively affect attendance regardless of what anyone says and was a factor in attendance. Couple that with a mediocre team placed on the field and you have what we have now. So it is time for solutions. First, take care of the issues regarding the team to field a better product. Followed by good marketing and changes in the tailgating policies to bring students back to the games.

agreed it has to be in that order. Need to get the product corrected. Win mentality. I know RA is thru 2020, which I am not upset about, as he did lead us to a natty game. What about the brother ambrose contract?

So then do something about it. This is the topic everybody cares about Towson, not our football team. We can go on and on and on and on about tailgating for 15 threads but get a few people that really care about what's on the field. How do we get better? What holes do we need to fill? If you want the coach fired, who is the best fit in 2020? This topic was supposed to be about the team, not about the f-ing student tailgates. If we are losing, of course there's going to be less people at tailgates. If Dr. Schaetzel, TL or Rob want to fix it, they have the ability to do so. These kids that just got to campus have nothing to do with what happened 4-5 years ago.

Also to your last point in being a student from 4-5 years ago have no bearing now.. the upperclassman now are only doing what they were taught from those students.. And if they are not going.. do you think underclassman go to more than their first game? you are very strongly under playing how important tailgates are. That can be the difference between a horrible turn out compared to a mediocre or big turn out. Which in turn over 4-5 years leads to a culture of going to tailgates/games.. and the game presence growing in the community. and then those alumni such as now myself, continuing to go back to games throughout my life time. And I spoke with numerous players from 2-4 years ago. to even players now. They understand the policies the school had which negatively affects turn out. and one can say affects their performance on the field. Or atleast lack of enthusiasm even in the slightest bit. JUST MY OPINION.

Time to get over it, that was five years ago.

I agree, as im new to the forums, wanted to set the record straight. They did a poor job of communicating that it was back to normal as well.

Never banned tailgating. Just went overboard with rules and police presence

They actually did effectively ban tailgating. THEN after they quickly released they f**ked up BADLY. they reversed course and said they never did but they were reforming.. By then it was already too late. I was very active on the tailgating front first hand over the previous 4 years as a student and organizing them.

True there was never interest or support until the T West days

I was happy with the attendance numbers during that time but I think there are a few things that occurred that knocked us backwards heading in the wrong direction again

first when we played Lehigh in the playoffs the place was packed there was a buzz, there was excitement, people were trying to get tickets. Fast forward to when we played Fordham in the playoffs - no excitement no buzz not even close to a sellout

and then you have the debacle that chased students away forever - when the university put the clamps down on the tailgating.  I know it is their job to protect the students but they went way over the top and guess what - the students have never returned

as far as basketball attendance back in the 90's when we christened our new hardwood floor there were ticket giveaways excitement being pumped up, they made it an event!  They brought in Michigan!  Open up a new arena - no buzz and you play Navy, I think this was a huge mistake and a very big reason why there is no excitement. We should have come out of the gate on fire, making it a destination where everyone would want to come check out.

as far as the future, I'm sick and tired of talking about the future while we are still in season. This athletic department has made mistakes that I don't think will ever get us back to where we want to be

Wow how bad was that decision to ban tailgating during crucial momentum upwards years...

Here the thing you can fire who ever th culture has to change games should be sold out every week that Towson is home.nothing against other sports but basketball and football should be standing room only.you can't win  fans over by being stubborn and arrogant again develope a program that will at least put you in the playoffs every year

School does not do a good job of spreading pro - sports culture to students as well..

I don’t want to be a gloomy Gus all the time. I want to see the glass half full, but it seems to me this offense doesn’t need to be tweaked, it needs to be completely overhauled. We should assume Mahalak won’t be back next year-if he is, it’s a bonus. If he’s not, that leaves Stover, who’s become a turnover machine, Harris, who’s a 3rd-stringer pressed into play because the starter got injured & the backup is ineffectual, or Miller, who will be a raw freshman.  At RB, we’ll have Simpson, who is very talented, but has now been lost to injury 2 of his 3 years here. Who knows if Wethington is coming back, or what the JUCO who’s sitting out this year can do. We never seem to utilize our TE’s, at least since Oboh (maybe it’s been a lack of talent) so who knows what production we’ll get out of Wright next year. At WR, there will be some talent, but questionable if there will be a true playmaker/Home run hitter. Then there’s the OL. I don’t even know where to start with that unit.

Maybe we’ll get some great freshman who are ready to play right away, and/or some great FCS transfers. Seems like an awful lot to hope for.

This still leaves the question of coaching. I know we’ve been snakebit with injuries, but can anyone objectively argue that our OC shouldn’t be replaced after this dreadful season of offensive ineptitude?

OC needs to go no question.

I know I'm likely in the minority on this, but I'd prefer us being a school with MBb as our flagship sport, not football; a' la UConn, UMass, Temple, Drexel, Kentucky, etc..

I was right there pulling for and enjoying that championship year w TW and the few years preceding it, as well as much further back with Crowley, Hollingsworth, Lee, Orlando, Meggett & Landetta, et al..

But so much $$ has been spent on football and such emphasis placed on that sport; and if only a fraction of those resources were given over to MBb, I think we'd be into the Dance by now. We spread our re$ource$ so thin that we're not making much headway in ANY of the men's sports...

On a side note, I miss Men's Soccer a lot! Just sad to think they are no more :(

Agreed. Think it is more realistic to go from mid major in bball to growth and continued success. But if we're gunna be real. We ARE a lacrosse school.
