Hmmm.... possibly not on a scholarship?
-
I assume you mean men’s basketball.
-
CAA football is a desired landing spot for FBS transfers. Location and access to quality institutions and resources have caused this.
-
Again, there will be more than 2 commits. This year especially, smart FCS coaches aren’t running around and encouraging their commits to splash the social media world. A committ ain’t committed until they sign. Reality, most FCS recruits don’t verbal until the fall, as the are waiting on FBS offers.
-
As Mat said, Towson usually try’s to keep commitments quite. Remember, until a kid signs the LOI, they are free to talk to any school. Kent State swooped in and stole a LB commit a couple of years ago.

Struggling in what capacity?
-
2012...Why? Why is every post that you make, negative? It’s very easy to criticize. What are your solutions?
-
...and those schools have no interest in sharing what little tv money is out there, with another rising school. JMU won’t be able to move until there is a new conference formed.
-
The JMU boards think they should be playing in the ACC! They are spending upwards of $43MM for a one bid/FCS conference. That’s about to end.......
-
Uh, of course. However, conference USA etc are going to implode. When ODU sends it’s women’s Tennis team to North Texas.... it doesn’t work. ODU athletics is in huge financial trouble. JMU brings nothing to the G5 world. Those schools don’t want to have to split more of what’s left of their TV deals with a backwater VA school. JMU brings no media market to help boost any future TV deal. NOBODY IN THOSE CONFERENCES CARES THAT JMU CAN FILL THEIR STADIUM! Attendance is not enough to change the dynamic for the G5’s. It’s all about cost containment (in an arms race) with must have-P5 paydays- and the best TV deal they can get.
-
CAA is not going to drop football. There will be new regional conferences and quite possibly an new level of CFB developing from all of this.
-
what if the NFL changes the draft timeline in order to accommodate a spring NCAA season?
-
JMU ain’t getting an invite to the ACC, B10 or SEC. Outside of a supposed cursory offer the Sunbelt 8 years ago, they offer no value to FBS football conferences.
-
Scholarship waivers will have to be implemented. However, I don’t know how each school will be able to work out the finances. Does the NCAA pay for them? Lol
-
Again, a (P5)$325k games lost versus two (G5)$1MM each, payout games is a big difference. The percentage loss ofn$325k to our budget is much smaller than a Kent state losing $2+MM. the $325k at Towson pays for the extras. Our FB Bugdet is $325kx25. BGSU FB budget is $2.2Mx5! You see the difference?
-
Not so fast. Bigger hit is for the G5. I expect the G5 and top tier FCS (see CAA) combine into a new D1 , regionalized , level of football. I think money games with P5 would be guaranteed at $800k+ to fund the 72 scholarships. 2x games per year and a 16 team National Championship tournament.
-
Yep, Dartmouth will have to be rescheduled for another year. Ivy may not have any sports until the fall of 2021. P5 May be refunding it’s season ticket holders!
-
No, just bringing in a group of 70+ for the summer session. All 100+ will be in camp in August.

State of Towson Athletics Briefing Set for June 18

When Rob returned to take the HC job, having a paid summer session was one of the foundational blocks that he insisted upon. This is what the FBS schools and top tier FCS teams do! A huge recruiting tool, it allows these kids to graduate in 4 and use a redshirt year to pursue a Masters. Years ago, kids paid their own way during the summer. Today, it’s part of the whole scholarship package. However, we also include the walk-ons, giving them the opportunity to achieve the same academic matriculation the the scholarship kids get. Typically, you’ll have all 98 on campus (including freshmen) by 7/6. Edit: with the loss of Spring ball, it’s imperative to have everyone on campus by 7/6 -
Much better arm than Daniels.

Great pick up!

Never thought he was effective against us.

And there you have it...a spot has opened up

Our funding in NOT at the bottom of the league. Towson is spending on the top 3 of the CAA. The program has every resource that the other teams do. Remember, Towson was the first program to offer COA in the CAA. -
JHU is a D3 school. $ 5.8 MM athletic budget competing in a league full of $100MM budgets. Exposed
-
Wonder how the scholarship limit will be calculated? What about schools with budgets that won’t allow for an extra year of scholarships?
