ThanksMat. I like the fact that the majority team (90%) has been practicing together since January. Remember, Rob brought them back for both summer sessions. So, aside from a few weeks off, this team has been together since the beginning of the second semester.

Youth? Youth at WR? Obviously Jamie is in a Purple Haze and didn’t do any homework for this piece.

No, I probably wasn’t clear. They were both considered counters at the timewhich means that their programs offered the equivalent of at least scholarships for a minimum 3 years prior to an FBS matchup. In fact, Duquesne is able to put more kids on money than the 85. They just have to find the need based athletes. Lehigh and the PL is now suffering on the field because the scholarships that were implemented in 2013have actually led to less available aid for the program . Prior to yearshad130 +kids on some kind of money and a JV program.

True. however, Towson elected not to play this Spring and make an investment in the players . They took advantage of the new NCAA rule that allows coaches access to the players over the summer. They also had a full Spring period. So, 95% of the team has been together since the end of January. Most of the late additions arrived in Maryland have been there all summer.

Having good players is the biggest piece of the puzzle! Ask anyone that has ever played or coached a sport. It’s not the only part of the equationbut it’s certainly the most important. Players execute the schemes. Well, in those first 5 games we will have played San Diego State, #2 NDSU and #18 UNH. So yeah, we’ll know what we are by the 5th game.

Wrong, both Lehigh and Duquesne were counters. Lehigh wasn’t awarding “athletic scholarships in 2011. However, they had enough kids on money (85) to be an instant counter in 2013 (when “athletic scholarships were added in the PL). Colgate was also an instant counter for the 2013 season. Duquesne was ginving the full 45 and grant in aid for the balance to equal 63. They played UMass 8/25/18 and Hawaii 9/22/18.

So this doesn’t count?
-
Both Duquesne and Lehigh are/were counters.
-
That includes two CAA championships, 3 playoff appearances and a trip to Frisco!
-
Also, remember that Towson languished as a hamstrung member of the PL between 1997-2004. Go Tigers!

Again, conjecture to fit your narrative! Please give us some insight in to your rationale of a6-5 season. BTWremember that this program started playing D1AAfootball in 1987 as an independent. Never gave more than 45 scholarships annually in the period between 1987-1991. The administration decided to move toward 1AAA football by 1995. The move back to full scholarship football did not begin until 2004 with a transition period until 2007. That’s why we were not a counter until 2009 (Navy) Again, At the time, the administration did not provide all of the ancillary resources needed to compete in the A-10 (led to the demise of Gordy Combs). Not until Dr Caret and the hiring of RA did the program begin to add those necessary resources. Towson played football at a competitive disadvantage for far too many years. Remember, we won the 2011 CAA championship and played for a National Championshipjust under two decades removed from 1AAA football (glorified D3). 2012... you continue to post baseless conjecture. Do some research! Oh, I have have just done that for you.......
-
Based on what? What observations/research have you made of a 6-5 season? Have you looked at the roster?
-
Thanks, Mat. Has anyone on the board bought season tix? Will there be a contingent of Towson fans at the opener? I wonder what color helmets and uniforms the team will wear against Morgan? Hmmmm... looks like the Tigers have added some new players since the last scrimmage. Hmmm... a RB from Maine? Hmmm... looks like he was listed in their 2deep. Stayed tuned. Rob, I’m ready for the “unveiling “. Oh, and 2012 ..... you lurking ? It’s called sarcasm... not arrogance.
-
Well, just look at what’s happening at BYU. It’s a perfect example of senseless legislation by the NCAA. Bilt Bar is now sponsoring all 36 walk-ons for the football program. Is that fair? Should Alabama now be allowed to scholarship 300 football players? When you allow unfettered access to money, corruption will soon follow.
-
Mat, thanks for the terrific update. The roster is full of experienced players at every position. I expect a lot of combinations in camp to come up with a depth chart. However, I suspect that chart will be fluid at the beginning of the season. Lumor could very well be the best defensive player in the CAA.
-
Hah! Pot calling kettle .... ie”criticizing someone for a fault you also possess “.

I think Rob said that there are just “a few” that haven’t been vaccinated. However, there will be positive tests for vaccinated players that are asymptomatic. Games will be jeopardized.

CAA and FLOSPORTS ANNOUNCE EXPANSION OF STREAMING RIGHTS PARTNERSHIP
RundaPower replied to mat1992's topic in Football Talk
Ok, I’m in too. But what about the 2021 FB season ? Any ideas of who will be starting? I’ve heard that we have a couple of starters returning from the 2019 team and a few newcomers. Gee, I wonder if these newcomers will play special teams? -
I’m just an old Tiger...like you!
-
Take a look at the roster. Get informed.
-
Yep, they have no ideawhats about to happen!
-
Doubt it. Maybe againt HMans 4-3, but not against this 3-4 defense! You gotta take the time to study the roster.
-
No fly zone! They have no idea....
