  1. All valid points.  Look, Kehoe hasn’t impressed me thus far.  Kane and Lee are both good backs and their receivers can get open some.  But, their OL has been suspect all season.  It’s imperative that our  DL wins the battle and allows our LB’s to run downhill and make tackles in the box.  Our Safety’s must be on the same page  as I would run a lot of zone if the weather is bad.

Their DL has not been good most of the year. UD runs a 3-4 , which could be a problem for them in rough weather. I expect them to roll the OLB’s up . They have played a lot of zone so far this season (read & react).   I think we spread them out a bit and let Tom wiggle around for some plays.  Also, we have that full house package that gives Tom an RPO.  Again,  gotta win the battle up front to keep their LB’s off balance all game.

  2. 24 total teams, 8 seeds (highest seeds host throughout the playoffs).  That’s why it’s important to have as high a seed as possible.  The NCAA tries tonregionalize the first and second rounds. The FCS poll is being built to help justify the selection committee field next month.

Actually, though he’s only averaging about 190 ypg passing, the UD QB has 13 TD’s to 4 INT’s. Their top 2 RB’s average on total a little over 100 ypg.

Yes, COMBINEDKane and Lee are averaging about 100 yds pergame (3.2 yds per carry). They are averaging about 325 of total offense per game and giving up 328 per game.  You have to take into account that they played a horrible Lafayette team and Bad New Hampshire and Cornell clubs.

Oooooh, so you're telling me that they were grossly overrated to begin with, for no good reason.  Still doesn't explain it.  Oh well.

The pollsters do each other favors.  The NCAA wants to create regional interest with 1AA FB.  A team from the Big South cannot create a strong enough resume during the course of a season. Kennesaw is benefiting from the influence the committee has over the polls.  If you rank em high enough early on and they lose 1 game then at 10-1 they look good for a seed and home games  with the SoCon.

We are exactly where we should be. Our caliber of work isn't worthy of a top 5 team (not even 10 at this point but close). We have 1-2 good wins against good competition. Nova is tanking like Matt said so that doesn't help. Let's not get ahead of ourselves and just keep winning...

I don’t think you have done your research. If we aren’t worthy of a top 10 ranking, example, how could Jax State or Kennesaw State be? Kennesaw has 6-1 with a D2 win. None of the teams they played have been ranked or Even have a winning record.  Jax State has a similar resume. Our resume is as good or better than anyone else in the top 10.

  6. Let’s also have Deb M personally invite all students to the game this week.  She can also send a broadcast email (video message) assuring the students will not be harassed bu SAFE and that tailgating is a go!  Have her department fund a large prize( $1000) to be given away at the end of the game. RA can deliver the check to the student in the stands following the playing of the fight song with the team.

But the questions we need to be asking are:

    • How did we allow one person to yield so much power by turning into the no fun police? And how do we stop it as alumni?
    • How do we have an AD that seemingly has no concept to what marketing is and has no power at all in university affairs.
    • What is our forum to voice these concerns other than complaining here?
      • Do they send out a season ticket holder survey? Not to my knowledge but a basic thing to start.
      • How about an open feedback session.

Correct on all these points.  How can a rogue VP go directly to the media without consulting the Council?  All marketing should be focused on the students for the remainder of this season.  Students first, alumni and then community.  Take the marketing dollars that are being used for the Baltimore community and use that for student $ giveaways.

    • Thanks 1

This.  Hence why it does matter if/where we are ranked.  I know you risk injury and everything, but when you're Towson and have the chance to blow opponents out and run it up, you better go for the jugular. JMU and NDSU rarely let their foot off the gas.

    Unfortunately, you are correct

    Two problems with your statement:

    1. Besides NDSU no FCS teams regularly beat FBS teams and that includes bottom tier FBS programs.

    2. There is ZERO incentive for any FCS team to schedule good Home and Home's with other good FCS programs. NONE. The name of the game is to get 8 wins (7 if you are in a strong conference and have name recognition, Delaware, UNH, Richmond, Nova, UNI, Montana, SHSU, etc.) By scheduling tougher games it only makes the road to the playoffs more difficult.

    100% correct!

  10. Fake poll. Back room phone calls from AD’s to one another to influence the polls.   This is an absolute sham and really a disgrace.  STATS and NCAA coaches polls are both being influenced by the AD,s.  What quality wins does Colgate have?  How many top 15 wins does URI have?  How many wins over teams with winning records do both teams have.?  CAA leaugue office is behind this.

Never forget 2012: “Your. losses to FBS  top 25 Kent State and #3 LSU cancelled out your 65-35 win (700 yds) against UNH” the day before the selections were made.

  11. True 88,if the AD can’t come up with $6k out of a $27mm budget    Wehave bigger problems .

Deb Moriarty is to blame here.  Single handily has worked to bring down tailgating AtTowson. She made those statements to the press in the middle of the night. Didn’t consult with AD or executive board.  Total power grab. Maybe she should be made to fund a student scholarship or $ giveaway out of  her budget .

The fact that JMU is in the middle of nowhere supports, rather than refutes, my thesis. Being in the middle of nowhere increases the likelihood that attendance at the local college sporting events will be higher, given that there is little if any competition for the hearts & minds of the students & locals. This also generates loyalty. TU is right smack in the middle of a metropolitan area, which, by its very nature, has more tugs on the attention of students & locals.

I actually broached your idea of a $500-$1,000 a game giveaway to a student in attendance at the football game that week, with the drawing for the winner being held in the 4th quarter of the game, with a requirement that the winning student actually have to still be there in the 4th Q. The response was basically “are you going to pay for it, because we don’t have the money for that in the budget.”

Sorry, I didn’t make myself clear.  I was referring to the percentage and overall number of students living on campus.  Caret made sure that our profile is as good or better than our peer institutions in terms of on campus student housing.

  13. Actually TU has about 29% (over 6,300) for 2018/19 .  In reality, Your same source shows only 30 percent of JMU students live on campus!  With a slightly smaller UG enrollment, JMU has less students on campus than Towson!  You do understand JMU is in the middle of nowhere right? Ok, let’s take a look at the granddaddy of them all - Penn State is at 35%.  This is not the same old Towson!

Many reasons. I’ll touch on a few:

At it’s core, TU has been, is, & likely will always be, a commuter school. US News & World Report notes that 26% of TU students live in university provided housing. So that amounts to about 5K students. The rest, the vast majority, are commuters & just don’t care about TU sports. And not every student who lives on campus is automatically imbued with interest in TU athletics. For some it’s probably not “cool,” for others it interferes with quality drinking time, & for others it cuts into their time staring like zombies into their smartphones. The argument that TU is a sleeping giant when it comes to an increase in students living on campus is, imho, a canard, at least when it comes to attendance at TU sporting events.

Along this line, Towson never has been, & never will be, a true “college town,” in the mold of W&M, JMU & others. Locals who live in the area are much more likely to identify with the Ravens, or even U of MD, than TU.

Add in unimaginative marketing & only 2 playoff appearances in recent history, and you have the ingredients for the kind of attendance we saw this past Saturday.

If we pay for it...  we are not respected or ranked well enough for a seed

Seeded teams don’t pay.  That’s why it’s important to get a high seed and host as many as possible. Again, way far away.It starts on Saturday at 4pm.  Every snap counts !

I feel compelled to address an earlier post which reads that penciling us in as a top 15 team is getting way ahead of things. Prior to that post, I posted that IF (in all caps) we beat SB this Saturday (which is currently ranked 13th) that we might move into the top 15. I stand by this theory. Having said that, I’ve been preaching all along not to get bent out of shape about where we are currently in the polls because if we finish 8-3 in the CAA we’re getting into the playoffs. Nuff said

Agreed that 8-3 will get us in.  It’s not about getting in, it’s about getting a high seed.  I traveled to those playoff games in 2013, not an easy task.  Minimizing travel equates to a better chance at victory.  See NDSU

One game at a time. One snap at a time.

We only have one good win over nova. The other comes from mediocre competition. Plenty of time to accumulate better quality wins and move up...

Based on what?  I mean how are you basing the statement you made?  If you really look at the weekly polls and results you will see we have a body of work as good as any top 10-15 team.  Morgan beat NC A&T , Nova beat Temple, Wake took Ranked BC squad to the end...etc.  These polls are fake! Head to head competition is not part of the equation. Also, The Citadel beat Mercer.
