We’re a state funded institution, in arguably the most progressive state in the country. Under these circumstances, it’s not a stretch to think that the path of least resistance for the university President (who has a vested interest in appeasing as many people as possible, in order to maintain her position) will be to make a hire that avoids the ire of certain noisy factions. We can only hope that the selectee is truly qualified, though if that’s the case it may be nothing more than a happy coincidence

    100% agree

Agree with a lot what you’re saying. Elon AD made some bad hires early on but his last couple in hoops and football have paid off. New arena too. Their old gym was literally a church with pews lol.
I don’t mind people using Towson as a stepping stone. That means they accomplished something (hopefully) here. Would rather that than stagnant mediocrity(if that). Looking at you Pat and Rob

In 2018 Elon AD made 285k. In 2019 Tim Leonard made 280k

Where did your  salary information come from? Remember,  the state is reporting base salaries.  $12k auto, etc.

I really think we need someone who "knows who Towson is". We should not be worried about keeping up with the Joneses. We need to be the best we can be for who we are. That does not mean accepting mediocrity. We need to get folks in places who know how to maximize the resources we have. We also need someone who the name "Towson", means something to, beyond just a step toward their next job. I know many of you like Waddell, but the financial position he put Towson in (and he was gone by the time the S*** hit the fan) made the next persons job more than difficult. While Waddell had many positives, he clearly was going to be gone and what he did here was more superficial than anything else. We should use the change that has been made at WElson as an example. Their AD has done an amazing job, and from my understanding, the only reason he is not at Towson is because we would not meet his price tag. Had we done so, we would have made up the difference several times over.

That person is hard to find, but clearly worth the time and money in the search. Go with the interim until you find the right person...it may take longer than you would hope and cause some minor difficulties along the way, but we need a long term answer.

Being the NC State to UNC or Michigan State to Michigan as Dr. Caret proposed will never happen. Being Baltimore's College Team is a great slogan, but in reality makes little difference. Baltimore is a city where people are more proud of the high school they went to rather than Towson University. I don't know how to do it, which is why I am not an AD......., but there is a mixture of fiscal responsibility, student athlete experience and pubic relations that no one has found yet....and when you find that person who understands what it takes, be ready to pay.

    What’s a WEIson?

What is the point of fielding a football team anymore? Does it make sense?

Fewer kids are playing football as youth, limiting the amount and skills of players. FCS football has been watered down and a bad product for a few years now. 3 of the good FCS programs are leaving the ranks. Besides a few Midwest and northwest schools, fcs football is an afterthought.

The Towson program is at best stuck in neutral. A coach whose been at the helm for 12+ years and is a career one game over 500 overall and under 500 in a conference that has gotten worse and worse over the year. Fan interest and attendance keeps dropping lower and lower. Would a change in coaching staff even be worthwhile? Would we see the slight bump when rob took over?  Not being able to watch games or other conference teams on tv or on espn streaming is just awful . Getting passed by Elon, Wm, and now URI is just unacceptable.

63 men’s scholarships is a lot. Could those be used elsewhere for other sports? yes. Football is expensive endeavor with such large rosters, equipment, insurance, staff etc. not to mention the numerous uniforms and helmets that this team goes through. They have more helmets than wins this year.  Not that the 4000 people who pack the stands of Unitas even notice.

Where are we going?  I’d like to honestly hear from some of the old players, Ed, etc what you really think about this program.  You cannot be proud or happy the direction it’s gone in the past 5 years. What do you want us to do to change? Clearly what is being done is not working. Some think we should add seats and enhance the stadium(LOL). That’s not the answer. We would NEVER be able to compete, draw, or have the allowable infrastructure to move up and expand.

Besides Delaware we are the only other program that plays football basketball and lacrosse. It’s tough at this level financially to be successful on the field and court. Especially when others have just 2 main sports to focus on.

Uh huh…..aren’t you ahead of schedule with this?

Why do we need more seats?  We aren’t moving up to fbs.

G5 football won’t be what it is right now.  I think what Matt is referring to, is the addition of a club section to an expanded field house.

Well, to be honest, do any of you, including Matt, know as much as RA or any other coach?  As far as what you know from watching on TV or playing Madden?  Because there is a sh!tload more to it.

    Response coming soon.  :)

....and dealing with young men and the issuesthat go along with overcoming life’s hurdles. Could the “smirks” and “smug” appearance by RA bereflective of watching this team overcome those issues?

  7. No one has done more for Towson football than Rob Ambrose, Gordy Combs and Phil Albert. Rob has poured his heart and sole into this program and has led his teams with integrity and professionalism. He has fought for this program from day one of his tenure as head coach and has earned the my respect.  There have been many “old guard admins “ that have tried to “submarine “ his efforts.
