  1. I'm for starting Smith. I think someone like Smith is the future. I was not disappointed in Smith and wanted him to play more. Give him some time. However I don't think RA will do it which is why I don't think we have any chance to be a threat with big play pass plays this season once again.
  2. Morgan just needs to take their best shot and stack the line of scrimmage, spy Piggy and just do their best to shut down our run. Don't worry about any pass over 6 yards and make the tackle after a rare completion. I'm not saying they will win, but they will be in the game until the end and then it is anyone's game. If this bad offensive Towson team loses to Morgan we are in for record setting losses. An opener like this is just so disappointing because it never seems to improve. Dink and dunk Chris Ferguson was just painful to watch the entire season. I believe we are in for that again, with Matthews in the role of Howard. What you saw is what is real. What is the probability of developing a big play passing game based on what you witnessed yesterday? It is only game one and any rational spectator would have to believe there will be very few big play passes the rest of season. Even if we have one, we probably won't have many more in a particular game. RA is going to go with Piggy until he concludes he is getting fired no matter what. At that point he may do anything.
  3. This is one bad offense Playing WVU is not even going to be funny. Rob has had 5 good passing years his entire career (two with Enders, one with Athens and 2 with Flacco). There are no mediocre years. This will probably be the eighth terrible passing year. Conference teams will stack the line to stop Matthews without any fear of a big play and then we will have to hit a longer pass (15 yards) consistently to sustain a drive at some point. If Piggy starts, other teams will also have a fast enough player to stop his runs where we don't pick up a 3rd down conversion at some point. You just need to stop our offense on one conversion and then we punt. With no big play threat, we can't sustain drives. The story is repeating. We got lucky as Bucknell was playing better at the end of that game. Their number 3 and number 11 were better than anyone we had on the field at the end of the game. Piggy made the throw on 4th down and we made the catch on 4th down I'll give them credit, however that compared to Bucknell's overtime effort. You could see, as bad as Bucknell was, they were playing better on offense at the end of the game. I think that game goes to two overtimes and I don't see how we win. Scott Smith may have been reluctant to throw at times but it wasn't any less productive than RA's dink and dunk Ferguson game plan. You need to be able to hit ten 15 yard passes a game to be competitive. not just one or two.

    Fire rob part 12

missed out on the Frostburg coach. That guy looks like a gamer and he now moved up to FCS. We could have gotten him within Towson's budget. I have heard his interviews and I can see why kids like to play for him. He was in our own back yard.

    Final Scrimmage update

Start Smith, especially against Bucknell. Should be able to do more against Buckenll and Morgan than the rest of the schedule. Start Smith all 4 quarters both games and get him some experience going into conference play. You can work things out against bad opponents. Stop gimmicks and just the stupid playing of 2 QB's. You have to commit to 1 QB. We have been through this before. Who doesn't like a QB that can pass. Imagine that. Regardless of the Schaefer teams records, it was exciting to watch. A great offensive product. You could not just blitz every play. You had to play pass defense or there was a real chance you would get burned. You can't do that if you don't have someone that can get the ball down field accurately. This in combination with the best potential running game we have had in a while. I know Matthews is a tough back that will play hard and has moves. Banga looks legit and has the body. The CAA, to me, has always been outscoring your opponent. There are no dominate defenses.

    Tyrrell Pigrome transfers to Towson

I agree with you Matt. RA is on a short leash which may lead to a gimmick squeak out as many wins season as you can with an easier schedule than we have had in a while. QB is just hard to recruit obviously, and RA is no exception. Athens was his best high school recruit and you could see it when he played as a freshman. That was a bad team but you could see that he was a really good athlete and he could throw. Enders was his best QB that just got ripped off by the NCAA with eligibility (especially when we see how many years some of these guys are around). Those two guys are worlds better than Piggy. I hope Smith lights it up this summer and RA gets a hunch that he is special and takes a chance. Put the ball in Piggy's hands out of the back field or other ways.

    Tyrrell Pigrome transfers to Towson

He can't throw. He is a terrible QB. What a waste and stop gap ploy. Start Smith and try and build a program. Piggy was awful at Maryland and no reasonable person watching Maryland football would think they were watching a division 1 QB. Maryland sucks. Stop fooling yourselves. You have to eventually throw to be a QB. He can't throw. Stop taking lame Maryland players. Maryland sucks. They get blown out for a reason. They never improve regardless of the coach for a reason. You are getting players no one wants.

2022 Post-Spring Depth Chart (all speculation)

Start Smith if he has talent. There are a lot things that are better about a program that can have a guy for an extended period of time. Athens is RA's only high school recruit. QB is the most sought after position throughout the country. If you are in the transfer portal it is usually not for a good reason. I would think for a starting QB to get to Towson from the portal we just have to get lucky or some type of irrational decision by the QB (family, local connection) that drives the player here. Absent that I just don't have confidence regardless of the resume.

    The Final Analysis

We were just fractions of 3 point shooting away from beating Delaware and Wake. Basketball is an imperfect game. You are going to have turn overs, sometimes more than other games, however we were a good 3 point shooting team. I don’t know if it is realistic to be a competitive mid-major and not shoot really good from 3 point range. On the nights that you shoot terrible from 3 point range you probable lose. Probably all mid-majors lose against a power 5 if they shoot terrible from long range. Power 5 teams land all the quack point guards that can drive to the basket with either hand. Power 5 teams land all the freshman big men with skills. Power 5 teams have many players with the size of CT and bigger. Mid-majors get late bloomers and now frustrated players off the transfer portal. You can barley squeak by Northeastern shooting terrible but not Delaware or Wake. We had a lot of good looks in both games, just missed bad, time and time again. I thought Nolan, in the Wake game, needed to give up the ball during the last 3 minutes. When it is not your night it is not your night. The last 3 games we shot 21 of 74 from 3 point range. If that just changes slightly we may pull off both loses. Regardless of what player we land or ad you cannot shoot that poorly against good competition and win.
  10. omniland

    Charles Thompson

I think it all changes if CT was healthy. Do we win? I think so. Just the difference between Delaware not having any worry in the paint on both offense and defense to making them account for it all night. We get more looks outside if this happens. They definitely do not score inside like they did. Just pains me to lose without everyone. CT was healthy all season then to have him nick his ankle the first round of the tournament is just such a letdown with this type of season.
  11. omniland

    Pain...

Painter played more minutes tonight than in a long time. Carr is a very good player even without painter. CT gave it a good try but no way those were quality minutes. Then when you don't have CT this is a totally different team. It is not an excuse it is just a fact. We are not the same team all year without CT. We basically did not have him. Delaware can live without painter with Carr but they did have to live without either of them tonight. They both played a lot and played well. They had an inside game all night. Every minute. We had nothing all night.
  12. omniland

    Pain...

Bad shooting night and not all CT but he was hurt from the beginning and it just made a dramatic impact. He wasn’t quick on defense and he is a key defender/shot blocker/ rebounds, you name it. None of that was there. We could have knocked down all kinds of 3’s however I just think we needed some type of inside game that Delaware was concerned about. Painter played a lot of minutes tonight. CT is a tough guy he is going to be there but when he is not, which hasn't happened we are a different team.
  13. omniland

    Pain...

Even with a bad game, we have enough of a tough game to just hang in and give hope but you need something. Just no 3’s really to speak of even with decent looks and what can I say about CT. I feel bad for him. He gave it his best but he missed so many points that he would probably make that it was everything. If he is healthy Delaware has to adjust and many things open up. Just unfortunate. We don’t have a back up big man game. It is him or not much else. I’m taking nothing away from Paar but he is not there yet. Can spell minutes but not ready to score like CT.
  14. You guys are just in denial if you think the mandatory mask policy and the fact that Towson security has a strong history of harassing enforcement of all rules, i.e. football tailgating. If Charleston or Wilmington have a mask policy obviously they did not enforce it. Towson is all about enforcing rules. I took my laptop over to a house yesterday and got the entire group interested in the game. No one at the house though wants any part of going to an arena and having to wear a mask. If Towson would be lenient about the masks no one experienced with going to Towson sporting events would believe it.
  15. You can't pack an arena when you still have a policy of wearing a mask at all times. Few want to watch a game wearing a mask

MBB upset by winless Northeastern 58-53

I don’t comment that much during basketball season but I do read the chats and I have watched the team forever. This one hurts because but for 1 – 15 we played well enough in every other area but 3 pt %. If we are that cold after 30 minutes maybe we try and go to Thompson the rest of the game. He has really worked on his game. Every time he shoots I’m not sure and yet he proves he has really worked on his ability to be a real threat offensively. We didn’t need much more to squeak this one out. He may have been able to deliver. Nevertheless, going 1 -15 is a crazy stat. We need Nolan back to try and get a better match up for Gibby. We are dangerous and can beat the really good teams when we have multiple threats from outside. Without Gibby taking hardly any shots game after game we are a different team.

    Elon rocks Football 37-14

Passing game is a joke but also, to just run for all 4 downs is just stupid. As stupid as the asinine 3 QB rotation (even though I think we only saw 2 QB's). You have to pass sometimes just to keep the defense honest. To drive deep into their territory just to run 4 times in a row, regardless of the down, distance and the fact that the field is shortening and regardless of how many defenders are in the box, is just stupid. And then to do this several times is beyond belief. Who would call a game like this. At least see if Amendola can make a play on one of those downs. JMU is a different story, however I like Amendola regardless of what happens in the next game. Sort of like I liked Athens in his Freshman year until he got hurt. I think he throws a good ball and he just needs to know he is the guy, get all the reps in practice and let him go. I don't know how many plays he can make because we had 4 running plays an out regardless of the distance. Never run a wide receiver on a 4th down. Just another stupid play. What are the odds of converting when running a wide receiver misdirection on 4th down?
  19. I think this actually is a pretty decent team this year but for the QB play. Yes start Amendola. I've seen enough of Ferguson. There are too many players, playing hard every week to just keep letting the entire team and coaching staff down by starting Ferguson. If you watched all of the games this year, you are taken back if we make a completion over 8 yards. That is like a huge play in the passing game for us. Just pathetic. Game after game, few, if any down field plays. His passes are also consistently a little off whereby the receivers have to constantly adjust awkwardly, fall down or reach back to make a catch. Very few passes, even simple short passes, are on the money. I can't say I understand it. A 6 year senior with tons of experience that struggled to make even the simplest of throws and right decisions. With this down year in the CAA, I think this is a playoff team with a little above average QB play. God forbid we have another aspect of our team that does not play well in a particular game. This pathetic passing game has no chance for a great come back. We can discuss other aspects of the team each week, but with this unproductive level of passing game I'm not sure how good or bad anything else is.

    Fire Rob

Look I agree that RA has a hard time consistently getting a quarterback (Flacco, Enders, Athens were good), but so do many coaches. Finding a QB is like finding gold. It is a common death sentence for head coaches careers in every division. The University of Maryland cannot find a QB. Their current QB is taking them nowhere. Kasim Hill was no division one QB when he was there. Hill is now bad at Rhode Island. As for RA and West, I understand West was hard to handle at times, but you have to be kidding to talk about West’s blocking. No one cares about West’s blocking. He was a dominate force and a once in a lifetime player and we had him. A player like West was worth more than 2 points against Lehigh in 2011. Towson doesn’t receive a lot of fanfare and absent 2011-2013 we have a poor 1-AA track record. Play someone like West hard in the Lehigh game and win that game and go on to the next round of the playoffs with a loaded team. It doesn’t seem RA realizes the scarcity of those types of games and how far and few opportunities you get like that at a program like TU. Win when you have the team. Don’t take things for granted. Was it all West that was hard to handle or could it have also been RA that was hard to handle?

    Fire Rob

West was everything. To save the program and his job make history play him against Lehigh and Old Diminion. Those games are once in a lifetime and west was a once in a life time player that RA did no realize. Games are memories. I am perplexed that RA could not come to the conclusion that he had a once in a lifetime player. He didn't play him in key games and he has paid the price in his career. He was the best running back in college football and he as at Towson and to think we lost a few games because RA sat him. These things cost jobs.

Football holds on to beat Stony Brook 21-14

Just silly for RA to think this team can consistently win with this nonexistent passing game. Everything suffers because we cannot pass.

Football gets routed at home by ND State 35-7

This has to be one of the worst passing offenses I have ever seen at Towson or anywhere. Just absolutely no ability to do anything through the air. Nothing. We don't know how any other phase of the game could be when you have such a non functioning aspect of your team. There is no momentum, the running game suffers substantially and the defense is always on the field when your passing game is this bad. Ferguson had plenty of time on many plays and we simply produced next to nothing. I did not see this coming this year. Don't get me wrong I didn't think we could win against NDST however to have no functioning passing game is remarkable as you watch. Mark Collins seems to be the best player we have so far. Seems like NDST knew this and intentionally stayed away from him but once. He covered like a blanket the one time they tried and had the pass been on the money he would have had an attempt on it. He also made nice tackles as well as a corner can make them. Unfortunately one corner cannot change a game. It is just hard to watch this team and I am a long time fan. How bad did they damage their reputation bringing that type of opponent into Johnny Unitas Stadium, with 9,000 fans and displaying that type of poor passing game. I'm sure plenty came out because it was NDST and they had to be disappointed with their impression of Towson and what the on field product was. I have a buddy that says we probably will not win another game and I'm starting to feel he may be correct. You will now see 8 in the box and man over our receivers and we will do nothing.
  24. I agree. A decent game by a QB and we win. No blow out but we win.

FBS Transfer QB’s in the Ambrose Era

QB is the most valuable position in all of team sports, hands down with not a close 2nd. The ability to acquire a productive talent has evaded the endless resource rich NFL Scouts and owners since the beginning of football. The number of number 1 draft picks that flop is so common that it is almost expected for any knowledgeable fan whose teams drafts a college all star QB. Tony Romo was undrafted. Missed by just about everyone. Shaun Hill is the last decent QB by far with not a close 2nd that the University of Maryland has had and that was forever ago. And he was not recruited by anyone but Fridge. In fact the Terps QB's after Hill just flat out SUCK. I wouldn't even consider them division 1 QB's. They just suck and they then drag down the entire team, regardless of a super talent like Diggs or Moore. At the NFL level, a really good QB doesn't come from Alabama or Clemson. They come from unusual places many times. It is just a difficult find. My point is, is that it is a daunting task to find a good productive QB so in this respect I give Ambrose some leeway. Yet at the FCS level, other schools in the CAA always seem to find someone pretty darn good when I watch the games season after season. It is very rare where I think the QB of the opposing CAA team just sucks. So in this respect Ambrose has failed miserably. He cannot field a high school recruit that can perform at QB on a consistent basis. Inconsistency gets you fired. A QB is everything to a coach's job
