Rhode Island is 2-0, both conference W’s. I’m glad we don’t play them this year. New Hampshire is 0-2, & staring down 0-3 once they presumably lose next week to Colorado. I texted my best friend, a CU grad & football fanatic, & urged the Buffs to drop half a hundred on UNH. None of that will matter though when UNH becomes the 1st team with a losing record to make the playoffs 😳

I didn’t see the entire game. Did we appear to suffer any injuries?
-
I’m concerned we could get sliced & diced by Villanova’s QB next week. Even though it’s an early season game, I see it as an important game nonetheless. If we can somehow pull out a W, on the road, vs a nationally ranked FCS squad, that would be huge. If we lose (especially if it’s a blowout) then we could be staring down another bad season
-
Season starts in earnest next week. Wish we weren’t opening conference play on the road, vs Nova. No pass rush, for 2nd straight week. Got away with it vs Morgan; not so much today. We’ve got a real QB, but the running game is a serious concern, by my way of thinking.

Wake’s starting left tackle is out for the year. Not sure what, if any, difference that’ll make this Saturday, but their fans are certainly bemoaning it as a big loss for them going forward

Hopefully, the WF team, in addition to there message board, will be looking past us. Realistically, we obviously have an uphill battle, but that’s why they play the game on the field, rather than on paper. I don’t know anything about there D; on O they have a freshman QB who put up big numbers vs Tulane, though they only scored 17 points in regulation (& he threw 2 picks in regulation-1 might have been a pick 6). We’ve got to force him into errors (or hope he makes some unforced errors). We better generate more of a pass rush than we did vs Morgan, otherwise WF’s QB will be confident & possibly slice & dice us. On O, we’ve got to be balanced to keep them honest & avoid costly TO’s. Keeping Flacco upright is key; he took too many hits vs Morgan. Hopefully our O line can open some holes & do a decent job on pass pro.

I volunteer to scout Italy, Spain & Greece. Where do I report to get my TU charge card?
-
the solution is obvious...stop watching!!!😊 It’s a cliche, but true that it all starts up front. The O has pretty good skill players, but none of that matters if the QB is running for his life & the RB’s have no holes to run through. Morgan’s D isn’t shabby, & Flacco was making his 1st career start. All in all, I would give the O a grade of C+/B-. Let’s see how they do against what I assume is a fair to middling FBS team in Wake. I thought the D showed good pursuit & speed, & aggressiveness, but Morgan’s passing game is virtually non-existent. The same won’t be true next week; Wake’s QB threw for 375 yards in there opener & also ran for over 60 yards. This game will likely be a more realistic barometer of what kind of team we are than last night was

I was interested to hear on the telecast that Morgan has struck a deal with WBAL to have all there home games televised on ME-TV. I wonder if we tried to negotiate such a deal.
-
Big improvement over the 10 point output vs Morgan last season, but you could make a good case we left at least 11 points on the field (I’m just counting settling for a FG on one of the drives we got stuffed near the goal line, & the end of 1st half where we got stopped on downs). Final score last night probably should have been in the neighborhood of 47-3. Next week will be a much sterner test, particularly for the D.
-
I agree. Leatherbury had that big 50+ yard play. He could be a productive slot guy. Richardson with some good catches last night too. Seems like we have more weapons than we’ve had in recent years
-
Clark looked pretty damn good for being limited physically. Glad to hear the injuries weren’t serious. Knudson was in a boot, which looked pretty serious. I’d like to see Greenwood, Allen, Dorsey & Clark all playing. The more potential playmakers the better
-
I’d like to think we kept it vanilla, particularly on D, so as not to tip our hand to Wake. I’m not sure that was the case-only the coaching staff knows whether that was the case or not. I’m still concerned about some of the dubious play calling on offense.
-
Mat, any idea when Greenwood (leading receiver from last year) is going to play? He didn’t catch a pass last night, so I’m assuming he was out with an injury. Also, what about Dorsey & Greaves? The latter was supposed to be a touted prospect, if I recall correctly.
-
2 games last night. Maine crushed New Hampshire 35-7. I’m sure UNH will still get their automatic playoff bid though 😒. And Rhode Island beat Delaware 21-19. Perhaps URI is no longer an automatic W (actually, they’ve only been an automatic W for other CAA teams, but not us).

I’ve already booked my flight & hotel, with ocean view!! Can’t wait. I hope there will be a few other TU fans down there with me & my guest. It’s before Thanksgiving, so it would make a nice pre-turkey day getaway. I don’t think we’ve ever played Pepperdine before (our 1st game in the tournament), but our next game is vs either Georgia Southern or FAU, both of whom we played last year in the Florida tournament. I’m thinking maybe Montana is the team to beat in the entire tournament.

Right on both counts. Mahalak got injured in early season games in both his seasons here. He got hit so hard vs St. Francis in his 1st year that I cringed all the way up in the gold seats at Johnny U. I think the dude who hit him played with the 49ers last year. A DB, last name Jerome, if I recall. Staley, the Morgan QB last year, transferred to some school in Georgia named Dalton college. Staley had transferred to Morgan from Mississippi State, where he was a 4 star recruit out of HS
-
Last year we only beat them (at home) 10-0. Of course, that was last year. They had a ballyhooed transfer QB from the SEC; we had a ballyhooed transfer QB from the PAC-12. Between the two of them, they threw 6 INT’s & collectively set the forward pass back by about 50 years
-
I liked what little I saw of Rose at QB at last Saturday’s scrimmage. Would like to keep him at QB with the hope they develop some packages for him to come in as a change of pace guy.
-
Tough break for the young man, but hopefully he’ll recuperate & come back better next season. Meanwhile, I think between Simpson, Young & the new kid (Yeedee?) we can get by ok
-
Just to clarify, I did read your initial practice recap post. I was trolling for any updated info you might have had. That’s all.
-
Any update on the QB battle? How are the 2 FBS transfers (Clark & DeBerry) looking? How are the O & D lines shaping up? Seems like we have a lot of depth at WR. Anybody separating themselves from the pack? Any off-the radar guys stepping up so far? 🤔 that should do for now
-
Any update on whether the transfer RB from Tenn Tech can play this year?
-
Are either a RB? I still would like to see a RB with bigger size than those currently on the roster
-
And just to clarify, “everybody says he is the real deal but I have to see him first.” Are you referring to Stover, Flacco or Miller?
