    Zane Martin asks for release

He did shoot 48% from the field as a sophomore. He was clearly the 6th man this past season. He was 6th in minutes, 6th in shots attempted & 6th in scoring. Isnt USD the school that the G on NE (European kid) transferred in from?

Played 20 minutes per game, off the bench

    6’8 190 lbs. Averaged 6 ppg & 3 rpg. Don’t know much PT he got to get to those numbers. He’s a sit 1 & play 2

I’d love to see one spot go to a big, like Niang or Zdor (both of whom we’ve offered).

I’m guessing a player wouldn’t commit sight unseen to a school? So who does that leave, Scott-Grayson & Timberlake? Unless other kids have visited, but usually that pops up online, or unless they’re still setting visits up.

Isn’t Scott-Grayson visiting? The JUCO from State Fair CC (love that name).

Can we recruit the dad & pass on the kid? Half the CAA was on this kid when he came out. Hofstra, JMU & Drexel, in addition to us. He’s also from the Philly Catholic League, where Skerry has had a pipeline, w/ JD, ZM & Betrand

FWIW, we’re on his “closed” list on verbal commits

Stiff competition, but never say never. I believe 1 of his HS teammates was our incoming freshman Dottin

True, that could be the case. I’m only guessing about the last minute offer theory because this kid recently participated in a couple of tournaments for unsigned players, called the Adidas gauntlet-one in Atl & the other in DC.

    Zane Martin asks for release

He’s got 11 other offers, per verbal commits, including Oregon State, just to name one. Obviously I don’t have any inside info, & maybe we’ve got a shot at this kid, but it seems like getting in on recruiting a kid this late in the game is generally not a recipe for success, especially when he has over 10 other offers. It would seem to me recruiting is about building a relationship over a period of time. That’s why some kids get offered a year or two before their senior year. Just feels like we’re johnny come latelys with some of these offers we’re now making. Of course, this last minute scramble has been necessitated by ZM & Gorham jumping ship.

As to Jones, just as I suspected, a false messiah 😆. As to this Wingett kid, hard to imagine he’s going to choose us over Auburn, but you never know. He also just got offered by Memphis. Meanwhile, I guess we’re still twisting in the wind on Timberlake. Signing deadline is just a little over 2 weeks away 5/16). Meanwhile, I see we’ve also made several offers for 2019.

I’m going to reserve judgment until I see who the 2 players are who we will presumably sign before 5/16, the end of the signing period. Presumably one of them should be a SG (ZM replacement) unless they’re going to go with Betrand & Fobbs. The other presumably a front court guy, to plug into Gorham’s spot. Bank the 3rd ship for a transfer who will sit out this coming season & play starting in the fall of 2019.

Whoever we get, I’m still holding out hope they show enough of a skill set, regardless of whether they’re a JUCO or HS, to supplant McNeill in the starting lineup.

He also has 3 years of eligibility remaining, rather than a normal JUCO who has 2. Averaged over 13ppg & shot over 50% from the field. Per verbal commits, he has 8 offers/schools interested. Maybe a Marcus Damas type?

    Grad transfer for next season?

Go to verbalcommits.com. If accurate, we’ve made multiple offers. Also, fwiw, one of our assistants is following & being followed on Twitter by a number of HS kids, JUCO’s & grad transfers. I’m skeptical about Timberlake, but who knows. What I’m pretty certain of is that the signing period for D1 ends 5/16, which is 3 weeks from today. Presumably, we have 3 open scholarships (ZM, Gorham & Prophete). No idea what’s going on with any of them, but I’m assuming ZM & Gorham are gone for good, but I guess never say never. I’m interested to see if we use all 3 scholarships for this upcoming season, or whether 1 of them gets used on a transfer who would have to sit out next season. Next 3 weeks should be interesting

Worst thing that can happen if you’re a low-to-mid major is for a freshman to have a good season. You can bet, someone will whisper in his ear he’s too good for whatever school he’s at, & he should transfer. OTOH, if a freshman doesn’t get the PT he believes he’s entitled to, he will also look to transfer. I think I heard there are something like 800 players who have announced they’re transferring from the school they were at least season. There are only like 330-350 D1 teams in the whole country. That means, on average over 2 kids are transferring from every D1 school in the country. You’re now seeing kids (Hawkins will probably be one; McGlynn & Astroth were others) playing for 3 different D1 schools. Ridiculous!! This grad transfer rule is a farce-while I don’t have the stats to back my theory up, I suspect very few of these kids are actually getting their masters degree. We all know it’s just a front for squeezing out another year to play ball at a different school. Part of the problem, IMHO, is this generation of kids-many are self-centered & have been pampered for years, due to their athletic skills. The second things don’t go the way they think it should, they’re going to sulk & pout & transfer. Or, if they excel on the court, many will dump the program that nurtured them for greener pastures. Call me a curmudgeon, but that’s how I see it. Now you kids get off my lawn!!!

    Spring Game comments

I tend to agree, though I did see some displays of enthusiasm by the players throughout the scrimmage. What irritates me is the sending out of an email that the “game” would start at 3:30. Based on that I got there 3:15 or so, only to find out they started at 3:00, without notifying what few fans the program has. My expectations for the season are very low. To make the FCS playoffs a team generally has to go at least 8-3, though some 7-4’s do sneak in. We open with an L vs Wake Forest, & at the end of the season we have what is almost assuredly a L vs JMU. That leaves our margin of error razor thin-we probably have to go 8-1 (maybe 7-2) in the remainder of our games, to make the playoffs. I hope I’m wrong, but that would appear to be a major stretch. Feels to me like the program is on a slow death march, waiting out the end of RA’s contract.

Did Ambrose address why Stover didn’t participate yesterday? Injury, discipline issue, he’s so good it would have been pointless...? Was he even on the sidelines yesterday?

    Grad transfer for next season?

Assuming the stats on njcaa.com are accurate, he came off the bench most of the time, only starting 7 games
  21. TSU88

    Grad transfer for next season?

Only averaged 9.7 ppg, but only played 14 mpg. Did shoot almost 48% from the field De-commit from Tennessee State following coaching change. Had some decent interest from D1 schools out of HS, including BYU & Colorado State

    Grad transfer for next season?

Imagine if we had Prophete & Messiah, & then played Loyola of Chicago in the Bahamas tournament, with Sister Jean in attendance

    Grad transfer for next season?

Well played. I see what you did there

    Grad transfer for next season?

Mat, I was checking out Corey Manigault online. Indian Hills CC is loaded. I think they lost 1 game all year & they have multiple kids who are matriculating to D1 schools. Manigualt didn’t score a ton, but he only took like 3 shots a game. With that loaded team, he probably just didn’t get much PT. But when he did shoot, he shot like 57% from the field. He was also heavily recruited out of HS. I actually hope we are looking at him

Sign him. We need a Messiah!!!
