Is he any good? Any idea if we’re interested?
-
Do you think he’ll use all 3 ships for this coming season? I’m thinking 1 of them for a sit this year & play next year transfer, in the tradition of Benimon, Moto, Morman
-
An expansion team could be the Las Vegas Golden Knights, who are about to advance to the 2nd round of the NHL playoffs, so the term isn’t per se synonymous with being lousy.
-
Well, Bay Area Tiger (may I call you “BAT”?) we’re going to be an expansion team next season. I wouldn’t be surprised if in all D1 no school will be returning less points per game than us. We’re returning about 10 ppg (McNeill, Thomas & Tunstall). That only leaves us needing to replace oh, about 65 ppg or so
-
Nice mid-major mix. What, if anything, are you hearing on the recruiting front, given our 3 open ships? I believe the last day for D1 players to sign is May 16, so there’s a month left.
-
Since we’re throwing out names, here’s another one-Everett Winchester, 6’6 guard who went to Gilman, is transferring out of Wright State, where, in his freshman year, he averaged 8ppg & 3.8 boards. He is following & is being followed on Twitter by one of our coaches
-
Love the twitter handle, “Jojo the show.” Is JoJo Hunter also available? (For those of you old enough to remember Mr Hunter).
-
Geez, we got Navy to open up SECU. I’m sure the Elon coach will point out that UNC is playing in their new building when Timberlake, who each school is recruiting, makes his visit their. It seems like while other schools host some pretty impressive opponents, we have a handful of low D1’s, a D3 or two, and a whole lot of excuses why we can’t step up our game.
-
One of Skerry’s former players here is a HC. Bilal Dixon is the HC at Middlesex County (NJ) Community College
-
Btw, Luke Murray is now an assistant At Louisville, having followed Chris Mack there from Xavier. I think he’ll be a good HC in the not too distant future
-
We’ve lost some good assistant’s along the way. Luke Murray (surprised he didn’t get the Loyola job), the guy who went to South Carolina (Skeeters?), & the guy who went to was it Indiana? Am I forgetting anyone? Not saying the current guys aren’t good. Frankly, I would have no way of assessing them as either recruiters or teachers of the game
-
I think JD would be a great addition to the staff, but that’s years off, given that he’s playing over in Australia, I believe. He’s someone who could relate to players, one would think, plus he’s a TU grad. Another irony of this mess (and it is a mess) is that Skerry’s rep is that he’s a good recruiter. Problem is now he can’t keep them, once he gets them.
-
I’d like to see us dip into the European talent pool & bring in a kid who can shoot. Look at the kid NE has, & Drexel has a kid from Turkey who looked good last season. What do we have to lose?
-
Let’s be honest-losing Prophete is the least of our problems. I hear he’s a nice kid, but he showed absolutely nothing on the court. He made ONE basket...not per game, but all year. Baffling, considering he averaged 30ppg in HS. Unless Drayton pans out, the 2017 incoming freshman class (Drayton, Ingram & Prophete) will be a complete bust. So, it would appear we now have 3 open scholarships for this coming season. I’m guessing a JUCO or two, unless we can get Timberlake, & maybe the 3rd used for a transfer who will sit out this year, a la Sanders, who sat out last year. Lets face it-we’re going to be an expansion team next season. Hopefully not the 62 Mets. Said it before & I’ll say it again...this raises serious questions about how this staff is assessing potential recruits. And if anyone doesn’t believe other schools are telling recruits that we’re in disarray, I have some lovely swamp property in Jersey I’d like to sell you. It seems somewhat ironic to me that this mass exodus will, in the minds of some, justify giving Skerry a free pass for another couple years, under the theory that he can’t be expected to take us dancing with all these players coming & going
-
Would that include Mongolian beef?
-
I suppose this is a rhetorical question, but what school is going to take ZM, knowing that he’s declared for the NBA draft, and thus might not even be around in the fall? Just because we know he ain’t getting drafted doesn’t necessarily mean he’s going to withdraw his name
-
So, in the stages of grief, I’m at acceptance. Good luck to those leaving, thanks for your contributions & time to look forward. With that in mind, once Prophete leaves (as seems to be the next defection) we’ll have 3 open ships. I wonder if we’ll use all of them for next season? Now, we have the luxury of bringing in 1 or 2 transfers who would have to sit out next season, but be eligible for the 2019-2020 season

Round up the usual suspects
-
There’s a whole other aspect of this that I’m not sure anyone has brought up-I wouldn’t be surprised if other schools are telling kids who are looking at us & other schools that there must be something wrong at TU, what with all these kids leaving
-
Tualum, I agree with you. In fact, on several occasions during the season I commented on the blatant bickering going on between certain players. That is exclusively up to the coach to stop that nonsense. When it’s allowed to continue, it becomes a cancer, in my opinion
-
Don’t get me wrong, I’d like to see ZM stay, but we can survive without him. A lot of turnovers & his scoring is at the expense of other guys not getting shots (though, last season there wasn’t anyone other than occasionally Morsell who really merited shooting more often). Needless to say, we have to replace his 20ppg, but I think we might be able to do that, albeit spread between 2 or more players. I’m more disappointed with JG leaving. He could have been a 12-14ppg & 7-8 boards a game guy next season. We would have had a really good front court with him, Sanders, Tunstall & Solomon. Now, that rotation is no more
-
More to what story? Gorham? ZM? Both? New player(s) coming in?
-
Inevitable or not, the bleeding needs to be stopped ASAP. Short term, this coming season is totally up in the air-no proven PG, lost the 20ppg SG, lost the best returning front court player. Freshman may have to assume a larger role. Long term, who knows? Hard to imagine we’re going dancing next season, which will be year 8 for Skerry. Some of this mess has to be attributed to him-the buck stops with him. What, if any, criteria is being used in recruiting, in terms of important tangibles like character, loyalty and leadership?
-
Would the last player jumping ship please turn the lights out in SECU. Look, even the most optimistic fan can’t put a positive spin on this. From the outside looking in, it appears to be a program that is reeling. In the last 6 months Ingram quit, Morman got booted, ZM & Gorham (the foundation for the next 2 years) have bolted, & Prophete possibly soon to follow (no loss with him, from a basketball perspective). It feels to me like the gains made under Skerry have faded with the passage of time and & it’s almost as if we’re regressing back to the dark days of the Pat Kennedy era
-
Skerry is going into his 8th year. How many HS kids that he’s brought in have stayed the whole 4 years? Parker-Rivera, Davis, EK & Morsell. Am I missing anyone? I guess McNeill & Alex Thomas can be added in. Meanwhile, how many kids have transferred out? It’s a bad look, & it does call into question the type of kids Skerry is recruiting. I get it-other programs have kids leave, but if ZM & Gorham leave, we’re in a different category, in a bad way. Meanwhile, if football & basketball both stink this fall (not unlikely IMHO) where does that leave the athletic director?
