    2018 CAA Recruiting Class Rankings

In a way, I hope he redshirts. Maybe that would mean Stover improved in the off-season. Give Miller a year to acclimate & then he still has 4 years of playing eligibility, starting in 2019.

    Feature on Solomon Uyaelunmo

So here’s an excerpt from a story about a recent game between Solomon U’s team vs the #3 HS team in the country. Solomon’s team lost 61-39, but he scored 17 points, including 2 3-pointers. The most interesting thing in the article to me was that his coach was having the 6’8 Solomon bring the ball upcourt, because apparently he had more confidence in Solomon handling the ball then the guards on the team.

    Feature on Solomon Uyaelunmo

Well, there you have it. I’m intrigued by Betrand too. It doesn’t look like he scores a lot, but I’m not sure that’s the role his HS team needs him to fill. He’s out of the Philly Catholic league, & the last two guys we got out of there turned out pretty good. Dottin is also intriguing. I think his HS team in Boston was quite successful, with him running the point. Now he’s doing a year of prep school in CT Lets face it, Skerry needs a bounce back recruiting class. This year’s incoming class consists of a kid who’s already left the program, a kid who redshirted, & a kid who has scored one basket all season.

Don’t feel bad, I had Prophete scoring 10-15 ppg this season. Was Solomon really offered by all those schools you mentioned, or were some of them just sniffing around/expressing interest? I do recall seeing confirmation of a Georgetown offer on his Twitter. Assuming some or all of those schools offered him, it’s quite a coup to have beat them out. IF, IF, IF he lives up to potential, this is why I believe with him & Sanders next season that next year’s squad will be better than this year’s team (assuming we get decent point guard play, which has been the bane of Skerry’s existence here).

That’s a nice story. Seems like a really good kid. 6’7-6’8 with athleticism. He’s only going to get better-lots of upside. I try not to look at things through Tiger colored glasses, but it’s hard not to be excited about this kid’s potential. Hopefully more productive in his freshman year than our last Fla recruit

    2018 CAA Recruiting Class Rankings

I’m just guessing, but perhaps he’s not terribly mobile, given his side. No-huddle, spread, run/pass option QB’s are the norm these days in college, it seems

    Grad transfer for next season?

The kid Scott-Grayson has 3 years of eligibility left (like Damas did, I think). Plus, you gotta love the name of the school he currently attends-State Fair Community College. That’s just a great name! Interesting side note-his school is in the same conference as the school J.J. Mathews transferred to, Moberly Area Community College. Matthews’ stats are meh-8 points & 8 boards a game, and he must be injured, because he hasn’t played in a month or so. Several of the outstanding offers appear to be for small forward types, though you’re right, the rest are for guys who are clones of each other-6’2 & 175

    Grad transfer for next season?

We’ve got a boatload of offers out. Has to be 10 or more.

MBB falls to JMU, 69-66 on Senior Night

I wonder if Prophete will be back. Not trying to start a rumor, not saying anything bad about the young man, but given that Skerry won’t play him, even after the departure of Ingram & Morman created a need, you really have to wonder what his future is here.

    CAA tournament seeding

We’re currently in 5th place. While I guess we could still finish as high as 3rd or 4th, I’m going to assume, based on our recent past performance, we lose our last 2 games (on the road, vs Hofstra & NE) and finish 8-10. If that happens, we don’t move up, regardless of what W&M does in its last 2 games, as the worst they can finish is 9-9. We also can’t mathematically drop below the 6 line. The team behind us is Elon, at 6-9. For Elon to pass us & move into 5th, they’d have to win 2 of their last 3 (assuming of course we lose our last 2). Elon still has to play C of C & NE (as well as JMU). My prediction is they will lose at least 2 of those games, & thus not overtake us for 5th place. So, assuming we stay in 5th place, we would play either W&M (currently in 4th) or Hofstra, if W&M overtakes them for 3rd. As it now stands, I think we’ll play W&M in the 1st round. I don’t feel super confident about this squad beating any team 3X in one season. If we do manage that feat, our “reward” is likely C of C (who’s won like 10 games in a row) on what is essentially their home court.

    CAA tournament seeding

Forgot to mention that Elon also finishes ahead of us if they win their last 3 games (leaving them 9-9 in conference) AND we lose both our last 2 games, to finish 8-10 in conference. If both teams win out the rest of the season (highly unlikely) we finish ahead of them, 10-8 in conference to 9-9 for them. If Elon goes 2-1, they finish 8-10. We would have to win 1 of our last 2 games in this scenario to stay ahead of them, as if we both finish 8-8, they have the tiebreaker by virtue of having swept us during the regular season. Sooo, to summarize, to pass us for 5th, Elon has to win 2 of their last 3, & have us lose our last 2, or win all 3 of their remaining games & have us lose 1 of our last two games

Good point. That would mean a whole new backcourt starting combo next season.

MBB falls to JMU, 69-66 on Senior Night

So that would mean either Betrand or McNeill, or someone else through one of the open ships. I wonder if they’d consider going big, with Sanders, Solomon U (assuming he’s ready) & Gorham starting up front, with ZM & whoever is going to play point. Of course with that lineup, there’s no 3 point shooter other than ZM

Mat, have you gotten any feel for what the coaching staff thinks of Drayton for next year? Wondering if he & Betrand could split time at the 3 next season, so that McNeill doesn’t have to start. Of course, they could always still bring in another guy with 1 of the 2 open ships

MBB falls to JMU, 69-66 on Senior Night

Starr averages 2.6 assists per game to 2 turnovers. We need better point guard play next year, but the bar is set fairly low given the production at that position this season. Unless the freshman Dottin comes in & wows Skerry, we’re probably back next season to a JUCO point guard again, or a grad transfer. I’ve all but given up on this season. Anything’s possible, but realistically it’s hard to imagine we win either of the last 2 regular season games, & 1 and done is a distinct possibility in the tournament. So, between Morsell’s 14 ppg, & the combined 24 ppg from Starr, EK & the departed Morman (each averaged about 8 ppg this season) we’re talking 38 ppg that have to be made up next season. That’s a lot. And ZM ain’t making them up all by himself. We’re also losing about 15 rebounds a game, though I think we can actually be a better rebounding team next season with Sanders, Solomon U. & a healthy Tunstall.

MBB falls to JMU, 69-66 on Senior Night

I’ve said it before & I’ll say it again-with this crop of seniors on the way out the door, it’s addition by subtraction as far as next year goes. Starr throws away the inbounds pass (is it just me, or do we struggle mightily every game to inbounds the ball) EK’s FT attempt at the end of the game was cringeworthy; a grade schooler would have more touch. Morsell scores 4 points in the 1st 30 seconds, & 6 points the rest of the game.
  18. I believe only us, Drexel & Elon have not made it to the conference championship game. Not sure Elon has even been in the CAA that entire time. We also haven’t won more than 1 game in any conference tournament in the Skerry era

    MBB edges Delaware, 67-65

Btw, sounds like Mother Nature is going to conspire against us Saturday night. We’re really going to need a good student turnout. JMU is absolutely a must win. Even more so given we finish on the road with NE & Hofstra. I’m hard pressed to see us beating NE. As for Hofstra, well, if we’re going to win either of the 2 final games, that’s the one where I at least give us a chance

Alex gets his fair share of bashing here, including by me, but he hustled tonight, grabbed boards & didn’t get in foul trouble. I hope next year that he’ll be a useful role player.

Can’t wait for the Bahamas ?? tournament. I went to the Florida tournaments this season, & can’t wait to go to the Bahamas. The A-10 & ACC sounds intriguing. Hope it comes to pass.

Important W, as I think the only team in the 7-10 positions that can possibly catch us is UNCW. OTOH, the W still gives us the possibility of moving up to as high as 3rd. Kudo’s to Alex Thomas for good D, with 9 boards, and to McNeill with 4 assists. EK made some big shots in the 2nd half. I didn’t get a great look at the block on the last play-was it a good non-call? Shockingly, in the 1st half EK was barking at a teammate (1st media timeout, he was bitching at Gorham). I blame the coaches for not putting a stop to this. Big games from Starr (nice to see on his birthday) & Morsell, despite the inconceivable fact they missed 4 FT’s at the end. ZM was awful. 3-16 with multiple turnovers. Always good to win when your best player has a bad game.

    CAA Tounrnament Games

Clinching 6th...how sad. Realistically, that’s about where we are, unless we win the last 4 conference games (exceedingly unlikely, since we’re 1-3 bs the remaining teams, & 2 of the games are on the road). Guess we can start talking soon about potential 1st round matchups

    Since Skerry became coach

When you’re playing 30+ games, including 2 vs DIII’s & others vs below average D I’s, I’d say winning 20 is better than average, but not great. This of course begs the question of whether we’ll get to 20 this year. I’m not looking askance at 20 W seasons, in the abstract. I think that that figure is not necessarily as magical as it once might have been, and I don’t want it to be a plateau that we don’t climb above. The end game (aside from graduating kids), the holy grail so to speak, is getting to the dance. At this point, I’d be content with the baby steps of starting by winning more than 1 game in the conference tournament.

    2014 Recruiting Class

Your post piqued my curiosity. Dontea Ayres wound up at Stevenson College, where he rushed for 322 yards in 2016. Greg White wound up at some point at Snow College in Utah. No idea what happened to James Hall.
