    New signing dates

Jeff Miller went off for 478 yards passing & 7 TD’s yesterday in his team’s quarterfinal playoff game. I can’t speak to the level of competition of the opponent, but even if he were playing in his backyard, those numbers would be impressive

    Can you elaborate?
  3. Disregard above post. Meant to post on different thread.

Tippett, Watson lead FB over W&M, 26-14

Actually it was my wish list. First, there is precious little difference between 4 or 5 CAA teams making the playoffs. If Delaware wins Saturday it will be 8-3, with a legit shot at the dance. Even arguendo if they don’t make it, the point of my missive is that we don’t have to finish 1st in the conference to make the playoffs. Now, as to my wishlist. I bet you lunch or dinner that there will be a new OC next season. Two, I didn’t specify 200 lb backs with NFL pedigrees. Surely you don’t suggest every 200 lb college RB is NFL bound. My point here was that our current RB’s are simply too small. Three, 20+ yard pass plays can be a function of good route running & crisp passing, in addition to speed. With the likes of Allen, Greenwood, Leatherbury, Dorsey & the kid who redshirted this year, we might not be Air Coryell but we should be able to stretch the field from time to time. I’m not quite sure how to reply to your wish vs poop analogy, other than to say it was, after all, a wish list. So, with that in mind, I’m still wishing that we’ll bring in 2 D-Line transfers who can actually see the field & be productive. You make it sound like that happening is akin to hitting the powerball jackpot. I respectfully dissent.

    MBB pounds Frostburg State, 89-45

Hard to take much away from this game, given the caliber of the opponent. The following are some random thoughts: ZM looks poised to become a real offensive force. Good chance he’ll lead the team in scoring this season; It is excruciating watching A Thomas miss so many bunny’s. Didn’t matter tonight, but very well could come back to bite us down the line; Nice to see Morman light up the scoreboard. After Morsell & ZM, it would be nice to have him & McNeill be alternative scorers; McNeill looked good, dropping 3 or 4 three point shots. We really need him to be a consistent outside threat on a squad generally challenged in its 3-point shooting; Ingram has serious upside. I was actually hoping he’d shoot a little more tonight; Prophete looks very tentative to shoot. When he did, his shot didn’t look good; Thoroughly unimpressed with Rolle tonight. He jacked up 3 bricks when he got in the game; The more I see Tunstall, the more I like him. He’s not going to score much, but he can rebound, block & alter shots, & can be used on D to press the other team. On to Loyola Friday night. It’ll be their home opener & they nearly upset Northwestern in their season opener.
  8. FWIW, Hawkins’ stat line vs Middle Tennessee State tonight was 1-5 from the field, 0 assists & 4 points.

    Frostburg Recap?

We won 89-45. Margin would have been higher, but Morsell & ZM sat most of the 2nd half

?. Bill Cousy, Tiny Archibald, Slick Watts? Just thought of him after seeing Travis Ingram wearing a headband. Should be interesting to see who it is.

Any idea if we’re going to get a LOI from a PG before the end of early signing period, which I think is Wednesday the 15th?

Tippett, Watson lead FB over W&M, 26-14

CAA will likely send 5 teams to the playoffs this year (JMU, Elon, Stony Brook, UNH & Delaware). So, we don’t have to run the table to get a playoff bid next year, but rather claw our way into a top 5 finish in the conference. IMHO, the recipe for accomplishing this goal is: (in no particular order) (1) A new offensive coordinator; (2) A tandem of 200+ pound RB’s who can move the pile & absorb the inherent punishment attendant to the position; (3) More explosive plays (20+ yards) from the passing game (4) An influx of talent on the D-Line. Well, now that I’ve fixed the football team, I can turn my attention to less pressing matters, like North Korea
  13. On a somewhat related topic, I’m fairly disinterested in our home opener vs Frostburg. (Though, as a season ticket holder, I will be in attendance). Presumably it will be a blowout W, which will tell us nothing about our squad, owing to the inferior quality of the opponent. Would much rather see us play a local D1 team, e.g., UMES, Mt. St. Mary’s, American, GW....
  14. I don’t wish him any bad luck, but he’s in the rear view mirror. Had some good games here, but other times I thought his shooting was erratic & I didn’t think he was great defensively. Perhaps he’s honed his skills during the year he sat out. Let’s see how he does against stiffer competition

A W is a W is a W. Too bad we didn’t pull out Elon so we would have had a chance at a winning season. If you think about it, we could have pitched a shutout-Fenner dropped an INT & they score a TD, & Tippett (I think) had an INT wiped out by a penalty & they go onto score a TD. Season finale next week against an improved URI.

    ODU Postgame

Glass half full=despite everything, we had a chance to win at the buzzer vs a quality team on the road. Glass half empty=absent ZM & Morsell, the rest of the team scored 17 points. That’s dismal. One thing this underscores is the problem at PG, both this year & maybe next. Starr is, well, no star, but it’s his job this year, for better or worse. Prophete didn’t even play last night, did he? Who then is the backup PG? If it’s Prophete, one would think he would have gotten in the game. As for next year, Starr will be gone. So, who’s the PG? A freshman? Prophete? A JUCO? Prophete was a prolific scorer in HS; did he even play PG? While it’s only one game, can we extrapolate that we’re going to struggle mightily against teams with good frontcourts? I don’t have a ton of confidence in Thomas, & Gorham is a forward, not a center. EK, as someone posted earlier, is a Swiss Army knife, not a power forward. I like Tunstall a lot, but we’re not likely to get any significant scoring out of him.

    The Redshirts

I’m going to choose to take the “glass half full” view at the moment (though I reserve the right to change that view after the W&M & Rhode Island games). After all, we beat UD, which will likely make the playoffs if they win their last 2 games, & we should have beat Elon, which is definitely going to the playoffs. We also could have beaten Stony Brook, another playoff team. Putting MD game aside, the only game we weren’t in was New Hampshire.

I know that’s what you said. I was simply attempting to confirm the accuracy of what you said. I had it in my mind he was a junior. Very well

Is Greenwood a sophomore or junior this year? In other words, is next year his last season of eligibility or not?

    New signing dates

Are you anticipating a 3rd basketball early signing, in addition to the kid from philly & the one from Fla?
  21. I will say this-at least the offense was fairly entertaining today. Obviously would have preferred a W, but we’ve had so many joyless performances by the offense this year, that scoring 30 points had me feeling giddy. Of course that’s tempered when I start thinking about how the coaching staff swung & missed on transfers Kilgore, Tsimis & CJ Williams
  22. I don’t want to be a complete gloomy Gus, so let me say I loved the trick play TD pass from J. Allen. I see some talent at WR, with Greenwood, Allen, Dorsey, Leatherbury & hopefully Greaves playing next year. I’m still on the fence as far as Stover-yes, he led the game winning drive last week, & yes he threw for over 300 yds & 2 TD’s today, but he only completed 50% of his passes today, & sometimes he’s so far off target it defies logic. I shake my head & wonder what it is he’s seeing, or thinks he sees, when he throws some of his head scratching passes.
  23. I realize I probably sound like a broken record, but the play calling sometimes is baffling. In the 1st half we ran for over 100 yards. Yet on the first several possessions of the 2nd half, the run was abandoned, the offense was ineffectual & Elon proceeded to built a 17 point lead.
  24. Elon had 2 100+ yard rushers. If the coaching staff doesn’t bring in a batch of DL (FBS transfers, JUCO, freshman, whatever) next season, something is very wrong. Btw, who is #86, Smith, who caught an 18 yard pass in the 1st half?
  25. Mixed feelings on this one. Great comeback from down 27-10, but we had multiple chances to win. Elon tried to hand us the game with that 19 yard punt late in the 4th Q, but Stover threw the INT. Then we had a chance to win in the 1st OT, after holding them to a FG. Also, with 3rd & 1, deep in their territory, with the clock winding down in the 4th Q, we inexplicably call a pass play (naturally incomplete) instead of running the ball. I contend if we had run & made the 1st down, we very well win the game in regulation. Egregiously bad play calling. That’s on the HC and/or OC.
