MBB beats Hofstra 76-65 to break their 8-game winning streak
TSU88 replied to mat1992's topic in Tiger Basketball
For those of us going to the game, who have to go to work Monday morning, the 2:30 start time is definitely better. I’m not getting home until around midnight if we’re the 8:30 game Not that many of our students are going to the game in any event, but an earlier start would be better for students with early classes on Monday morning -

As a 3 seed, we wouldn’t have to play C of C or Hofstra until the finals, assuming of course we made it that far. At least I think that’s the case As a 4 or 5 seed, I would think we’d to play Hofstra in the semis, if we win our 1st game Also makes a huge difference in what time we play on Sunday. 4/5 game is at 2:30; 3/6 game is at 8:30pm -

So, if we W tomorrow, we play NE in the 3-6 matchup. If we L tomorrow, we play DE in the 4-5 game, is that right? -

We should probably table this conversation until after the conference tournament. He has a good, not great, regular season conference record, since his 2nd season. He has a lousy conference tournament record. But, the whole narrative would change if we make a run in the tournament. Or, if we go one & done.... -
These plus/minus numbers from last night are eye-opening, Timberlake a +23, Thompson a +19 & Dottin a +17. I’m guessing Tunstall was one of the starters who was a -9

I was thinking of a tactful way to post the following observation last night, but I couldn’t come up with anything-we are a much better team on offense (at least we were last night) when Tunstall is on the bench. -

I see what you did there. -

I’ve noticed Skerry is not well thought of on message boards of other CAA teams -

That’s a funny quote, but insulting at the same time. There’s some truth to it, but it’s not like every basket last night was a put back after a missed shot -
NE PG, Tyson Walker, was quite good vs us last game. If I recall, he scored 17. If he doesn’t play Sunday that would be a plus for us

I went to the game we played there vs Liberty. It’s not a bad little venue. I think it might seat more than 3,600. It’s not in a good neighborhood, but DC police had a presence in the area when I went. I felt safe. I’m assuming they’ll have even a bigger presence for the tournament
-
All the more reason to try to get some of our students there. Attendance will probably be “meh,” but W&M & DE might have decent turnouts. Not sure about C of C or Hofstra
-
Our athletic department should look into chartering some buses to get some students down to DC.
-
I assume Murphy is redshirting. He’s only played 4 games all season
-
As soon as I saw “Max & Eddie” I immediately knew they’d be blatant homers & I hit the mute button
-
Lets win Sunday & get 3rd place. I think that would put us in a rematch with NE in round 1. Not the worst scenario, as hopefully NE will have only a small contingent of fans in DC. Then if we could get a W in round one, we would avoid Hofstra in the semi’s
-
So, help me out here. NE is crushing JMU tonight, & will go to 9-8. But we’re 11-6, so even if we lose to NE on Sunday, they can’t catch us. I know we can’t finish 1st, but I think we also can’t drop to 6th. If we win Sunday, & W&M loses at home to Elon (unlikely) where does that leave us? In that scenario, both W&M & us would be 12-6.

So, what happens if we beat NE on Sunday & somehow W&M loses at home Saturday to Elon? We’d both be 12-6 & split during the regular season. Who gets the tiebreaker & 2nd place? -
Watched it on FloSports (sound muted). Wow, just wow. Helluva team effort. Should be a big confidence boost going into NE on Sunday. Our big 2 got one big bucket after another, but I thought our bench was superb. Thompson with 7 boards and 6 points, Timberlake with 12 points & 6 boards and I think Dottin played his best game as a Tiger-6 points, 8 boards and 5 assists. Buie killed us earlier in the season; tonight our D forced him into a 2-14 shooting performance. We also dominated them on the boards. With DE’s L tonight, I believe we’re in sole possession of 3rd place. Let’s bottle tonight and we’ll be in great shape Sunday & in DC
-
I doubt NE is losing at home tonight vs JMU. A W & they go to 9-8 DE plays C of C tonight, so either DE drops to 10-7 or C of C drops to 9-8
-
I think Frying, er, I mean Flying, Dutchmen was a better nickname than Pride
-
You’re not saying Buie’s social security number is 000-00-0002, are you?😆

The improvement in foul shooting has been extremely impressive. Didn’t realize we were 15th in the nation. Credit to the players and the coaching staff

We’re 2-6 this year, going into these last 2 games, vs the other top 6 teams. TU2012’s statistical breakdown as to our record vs top 3 conference teams since 2014 is sobering (11W vs 31L). Objectively speaking, it’s hard to imagine we’re going to win 3 in a row in the conference tournament. Of course, you can’t win 3 in a row unless you win the 1st one, so I’ll see where we are after the 1st game of the tournament. Its amazing to me that since the 08-09 season, the lowest seeded team to make the conference final is a #4 seed. Law of averages being what it is, that’s got to give, eventually
