The lead post stole most of my thunder. Incredibly disappointing to see this kind of performance, in a critical game & in front of a decent crowd. We’re not beating Regent the way we shot tonight. 27% is just putrid. Frankly, I didn’t think W&M was that good tonight, we were just horrible. Now I’m going to go on a little rant. As lousy as we played, we had a chance to cut the lead to 4 points in the 2nd half, with plenty of time left in the game. But Timberlake tried a one hand slam, & naturally missed. He’s tried this showboat move at least 3X this season & it has never worked. If he catches the ball with two hands, he might have had a better chance to have scored tonight, & then the lead is down to 4, & we have momentum. Million dollar talent with a 10 cent basketball IQ. And I blame PS for not telling him to stop this move that he’s not capable of pulling off Drexel lost tonight, so I don’t think they can catch us. NE lost too, but they still have a chance to catch us. Elon game Saturday is huge. If we lose, they’re only 1 game behind us. However, after Saturday, Elon only has 1 game left-on the road vs W&M, so we might be able to fend them off. Bottom line, if we L Saturday, it is not out of the realm of possibility we drop into the PIG

I think it’s fair to say spring practice will be very important to at least 2 players-Stover & Miller. If one of them stands out in spring practice, I would think he would have a leg up on being the favorite going into summer camp. OTOH, if neither distinguishes themself, I would think that would increase the chances of the starter being someone not yet on the roster
-
Last year it looks like spring practice went from 2/19 to around 3/27. I’m assuming practice starts later this year?

I’d love to take you up on that. Would mean we got the W & off-the-chart attendance. The former is possible, but I think the latter is unlikely

I will give a free autographed copy of my biography to the 1st 3,000 fans in attendance Thursday

I wonder if Gorham had to do it over again if he would transfer to Houston, where he’s averaging 3.4 ppg. Anyway, water under the bridge. Martin is averaging 11ppg at New Mexico, but that needs to be put in context-he was coming off the bench until the Lobo’s lost 4 players to a combo of injuries & suspensions. It was only at that point that his minutes & scoring avg went up. None of the recent transfers are setting the world on fire. JJ Matthews’ numbers are meh-8.6 ppg & 4 rpg

Assuming the last ship goes to a JUCO or grad transfer (as opposed to a sit one transfer) that guy better have a scoring pedigree, regardless of what position he plays. We’re losing our leading scorer off this years team and, let’s face it, when it comes to scoring, we don’t know what we’re getting at the D1 level from any of the 5 newcomers next season (Biekeu, Barnes, Jones, Mims & Victor U). This also assumes no one transfers out after this season. In the last several years we’ve had 6 guys, for various reasons, transfer (ZM, Gorham, Matthews, Prophete, Drayton & Selcuk). That doesn’t count the kids who quit (Ingram) or were kicked off (Howard & Morman) or the guys who didn’t finish out the season due to basketball or non-basketball injuries (Davis, Solomon U and now possibly Gray)
-
FWIW, I’m not sure how accurate the Maxpreps website stats are on Barnes. They say he’s scored 177 points on the season, on 48 made 2’s (96 points); 2 made 3’s (6 points) and 30 made foul shots. That would only add up to 132 points, not 177 🤷♂️
-
Barnes is 2-15 on the season shooting 3’s, though he does shoot 60% (48-80) on 2-point shots. Would be nice to know Jones’ stats, but I can’t find them online.

Verbalcommits.com lists Biekeu as a HS senior. There is some difference between the Canadian & U.S. educational systems. I’m not saying you’re wrong, just wondering if he might have more than 2 years of eligibility.

I think the goal here is to hold serve at home in these last 2 conference games, which won’t be easy. Then, in the best of all possible worlds, steal a W on the road vs NE, & finish conference play at 12-6. A split of the last 4 wouldn’t be the worst thing to happen, which would leave us at 11-7. What we don’t want to happen is to lose either 3 of the last 4, or, even worse, all 4. It all starts on Thursday
-
It’s important to have that 3rd scoring option, especially if Fobbs or Betrand is having an off night. Would be great if Gibson had another big game vs W&M, but Sanders or Timberlake coming up big would do nicely to. This coming Thursday has to be one of the biggest home games in the PS era
-
The thing I’ll remember the most about Sanders, other than how he cocks the ball over his head when he shoots, is that it seems like every game he hits the floor so hard that I shudder. Looks like Thompson & Tunstall had good games, & Timberlake with 8 boards. I don’t think we’re going to hold W&M to 48 points, so we’ll need Fobbs & Betrand to light up the scoreboard
-
If NE beats DE Thursday, & we beat W&M, we’d be in 2nd place. Would be nice to have 3K in the building-athletic department needs to market the hell out of this game. Didn’t get to watch the game live. Did we get out unscathed from injuries?

We need Drexel to lose to Elon today
-
If we’re not in PIG, I’m going; if we’re in PIG, not so sure. Elon & Drexel lost last night, which helps us in terms of staying out of the PIG. NE won, which doesn’t help. JMU & UNCW can’t catch us; Elon probably can’t. Thus, it boils down to us having to stay ahead of either NE or Drexel (not both) to avoid PIG. Seeing as we have a 2 game lead on Drexel (and beat them 2X head-to-head) I’m cautiously optimistic we won’t finish lower than 6th. There, does that answer your question?😆
-
Gray’s absence is problematic. I’m concerned it could be especially problematic vs W&M’s twin towers next week.
-
I’ve never met Thompson, but he seems like a good kid. Did meet Dottin, before last season, and was very impressed by him. Would be nice to have Gray back come tournament time. Based on the people I spoke to it’s iffy.
-
This game was pointless. Win by 40 & people say “so what, you were supposed to.” Play like we did tonight and people say “uninspired and lackluster” (which it was). Put it in the rear view mirror and on to Harrisonburg
-
Uninspired and lackluster. Give credit to Regent-it was a big game for their kids. If we shoot 23% from 3 Saturday night, it’ll be a long night in Harrisonburg.
-
There is a history of guys making big improvement during the PS era, between their freshman & sophomore season (Morsell, ZM & Betrand come to mind). Let’s hope Gibson follows suit

Folks can agree or disagree with TUTigers2012, but even his most ardent critics have to acknowledge his passion for TU sports, demonstrated not just by the volume of his posts, but putting his $ where his mouth his and attending games. Instead of sniping at each other, let’s focus on what happens on the court the next month. Trust me, they’ll be plenty time for recriminations afterwards, including probably some by me. Maybe it’s just me, but I’m a little surprised some people don’t acknowledge that sports message boards are full of overly optimistic and overly pessimistic opinions, which change from game-to-game. I bet when W&M was 6-0 in conference that folks on their board had the team in the dance & the coach as COY. Now, fast forward to them having lost 5 of the last 7 & I guarantee some of the same posters who had them dancing are now posting that they’re in danger of dropping into the play-in games. We don’t have an over abundance of passionate posters, & I don’t want to lose the ones we do
-
I hope he makes it back. We need all hands on deck
-
Shhh FLX, don’t even think the thought that he’ll pull a Zane. It’s AB’s team next year, with Fobbs a senior this year
-
While it makes no real difference at the moment, aren’t we actually in 4th, not 5th place, currently? W&M lost again tonight, making them 8-5 in conference. We’re also 8-5, but we beat W&M earlier in the season. Stunning that Elon beat C of C. And C of C earlier this season lost to UNCW. JMU nearly beat DE on the road today. Talk about a wide open conference tournament.
