Just got home from the game. Not a bad venue; will go back for our 1st game of CAA tournament. As for the team, what is there to say. I’ve been to every home game, plus Morgan State & now tonight. I don’t think we’re very good, though maybe the quality of competition in conference play will be generally inferior to the OOC schedule we played. Was encouraged by Gibson’s play tonight, but there was no one else to be encouraged by. There will be the occasional outlier game, but, generally speaking, this team (as with many Skerry team’s) is going to struggle to score. I believe it will be the norm that this team, at least against good competition, will have 1-2 scoring deserts a night, where it will go 5-7 minutes without scoring. Other than when in transition, every position is a death struggle to score. Other than Fobbs, where are the points going to consistently come from? Betrand is struggling, Sanders will be a non-entity on nights like tonight, where he’s in early foul trouble, Gray might occasionally break double digits in a game, but I believe more times than not he’ll be a non-factor. Let’s see, who else? Dottin, Tunstall, Thompson? Maybe the 3 of them average 10-12 ppg. Timberlake? He can’t shoot (his foul shooting tonight was abysmal). Not being a good shooter is generally a liability for a shooting guard 😳. I’m not calling for the coach to be fired. He’s not going anywhere for years to come. His style of play/type of players he recruits speaks for itself. It is what it is. My prediction: ceiling is 5th place in conference, with real possibility of being in one of the play-in games, come conference tournament time.

FWIW, I thought it was a snide comment & completely unnecessary. Btw, I don’t know etiger, so I have no hidden agenda here.

Just two early signings? That’s it? Yeah, there better be a lot of signings on the next date, as well as a bunch of transfers.

Just bought my ticket off Groupon. Thanks for mentioning that. Sounds like it’s going to be lots of offensive fireworks 🧨, perhaps reminiscent of a game a few years ago we lost at home to C of C by something like 40-37

I noticed W&M isn’t on our football schedule next year, which struck me as odd.

Ok, I didn’t know. Now I know

Do the member teams not have any say in who their in-conference opponents are on a year-to-year basis?
-
2021 & 2024 would be good years to not schedule JMU. The week after we play NDSU in 2021, we travel 3,000 miles to play San Diego State the next week.

He’s the kind of young man you want to root for. Agree with TUTigers2012-regardless of what happens on the field, he’ll be a great success off the field. After all, that’s what’s more important anyway. Proud to have him at TU & wish him (and his prom date) great success

Awesome!!

After last night’s scintillating 38 point output vs Vermont, we are close to wrapping up our 9th season of out-of-conference games during the Skerry era, which begs the following question: what is our signature OOC W during these 9 years? 2012 vs Oregon State? The Beavers won 14 games that year. We actually did beat Vermont on the road 6 or so years ago. That Catamount team went to the NIT that year. Iona, a few years ago in Vegas? Temple, at home in 2013? I think Temple won 9 games that season. I can’t think of any other candidates off the top of my head. The choices are few & far between

It’s hard to take comments in a post seriously when it contains a belief that TU had some postseason success during Gary Neal’s playing days. In fact, we went a combined 27-33 in Neal’s two seasons, with no postseason appearances

So, our ceiling is a “solid defensive gameplay.” Oy vey

Look, let’s be honest-if Fobbs doesn’t go off last night, we lose at home to a team playing without their top scorer (were they missing another key player as well?) Point is, Fobbs ain’t going to score 30+ every game, which begs the bquestion of where are the points going to come from on those nights when he only scores 15 points? Based on how things are trending, it better be Betrand & Sanders because Gibson has gone 3 straight games without scoring a single point, Timberlake looks awful (sorry, but the numbers don’t lie), Thompson is probably good for 4ppg, Tunstall maybe 8 or so, Dottin maybe 5-6. That leaves Gray, who seems to run hot and cold. I doubt we can expect him to average more than 10ppg, at best.

Major props to Fobbs, who put the team on his back, which is a good thing, seeing as no one else, except Sanders, scored in double figures. For a big (6’8 or so), Gray is soft. But he will occasionally have good scoring numbers. Tonight was not one of those nights though. I will say this for our PG’s-I believe they combined for 6 assists with very few TO’s. Is it time to be concerned though about Gibson, who has now gone 3 straight games without scoring a single point. His shots aren’t even close. Add in Timberlake, who couldn’t throw a beach ball in the ocean right now. Kudo’s to Sanders. On offense, he’s taking the ball to the rim and finishing, and hitting the boards on D. Team is much better with him on the court. Keep in mind that UMBC was playing without its leading scorer tonight. They’ve got some nice pieces, including former W&M G LJ Owens & that kid Kennedy looked really good tonight; a slasher who got to the rim at will at times tonight, and finished.

Who is this a$$ clown 🤡, the janitor at UMBC?

It appears a number of CAA teams have hosted marquee teams. Since SECU opened, is Temple the biggest program we’ve hosted?

2012-13 season. Since then?

Does counseling center accept all major insurance?

My stats don’t include the 1st year (2011-12). While you raise valid points, it doesn’t change the fact we’re almost always scorer deprived and need better shooters/scorers
-
Ok, the numbers may be a little off, but, since 2012-13, we are 32W vs 78L when we score less than 70ppg. Conversely, during that same period of time, we are 94W vs 29L when we score 70 or more ppg. Moral to the story: recruit better scorers and less “try hard, bang the boards & play hard-nosed D” guys
-
While you’re in research mode, I’d be curious to know how many games we’ve won since 2011-12, where we have scored less than 70 points.

Who on this team do you have confidence in CONSISTENTLY hitting an open jump shot? 38% shooting Fobbs? 42% shooting Betrand? 30% shooting Gibson? 28% shooting Timberlake? Maybe 50% Gray is about it. Please don’t insult my intelligence by telling me we don’t need shooters, for that is a ridiculous assertion
-
Well, I’ll say it. WE NEED SHOOTERS
