So, if you had to pick 1 guy on this team to take & hit a 15-20 foot jump shot, who would it be? “Buehler, Buehler”? Maybe Gray, maybe Betrand, maybe Fobbs (as long as it’s not a 3-point shot). My point is that, as usual, we struggle mightily to shoot from the floor, especially in the half-court game. Will this ever change? I’ve been asking this question for years
-
I’d also be worried about Gibson (zero points in last 2 games) & Timberlake (shooting 28% from the field so far this season). The former is a freshman, so ups and downs are going to happen. As for the latter, perhaps he’ll come on and wind up a 15ppg scorer by the time he’s a senior. But, at least for now, I’m not seeing it. Instead, I’m seeing a kid who simply isn’t a good shooter. And not just from the field either. He’s 2-8 from the foul line. Small sample size, sure, but still 25% is atrocious, especially for a guard

Team shot 24.5% for the game, in 55-38 loss. With 11 minutes & 45 seconds left in the game, we trailed 33-32 & inexplicably made 2 baskets the rest of the game. For the season thus far, our 3 volume shooters (those who have taken the most number of shots) are: Fobbs-shooting 15% from 3, & 38% overall; Betrand, our “best” shooter, at 42% from the field, and Gibson, at 30% from the field, including 2 straight games with 0 points.

Is officially transferring, per verbalcommits.com

Well, we knew he wasn’t coming back, but it will be mildly interesting to see where, if anywhere, he lands, given that he was booted out here, and had already been to 2 schools (1 a JUCO) before he even got here. If he actually plays for another school, it’ll be his 4th team

I agree that it was a late arriving crowd. Maybe classes just got out 🤣 -

Attendance at Morgan last night was 3,789; capacity is 4,200. This on a Wednesday night, where the home team came in with a record of 3-6. SECU is in its 7th year. In the 1st season, 2013-14, we had 4 crowds that exceeded the attendance at Morgan last night. Since then, only 1 time, in 2/15, vs Delaware, have we had a home attendance higher than what Morgan had last night -

I thought Sanders was the key to the W; when he was on the floor, the offense was just better. Tunstall had a “quiet” 13 points & 10 boards, & Betrand continues to impress. Meanwhile, Fobbs had a highlight reel posterization dunk. On the other hand, for the 1st time, I thought Gibson looked a little overmatched. -

Was at the game. Great raucous crowd. Wish we could get our students to come out in the same numbers and intensity -
Any idea if they’ll play it tomorrow?

Not much to add to this thorough look back/look forward. Wholeheartedly agree that the 1 play that changed the trajectory of the season was the 4th & long vs Nova, when we couldn’t get off the field (I don’t have the stats to back this up, but, anecdotally, it seems to me we’ve been chronically awful for years on getting off the field on 3rd & 4th and long situations). Perhaps I’m one of those gloomy Gus folks who recently was excoriated on this board, but it seems we have an awful lot of holes to fill going forward (QB, RB, speed receiver, TE to replace Clark, CB, and an overall lack of a pass rush) to be overly optimistic about next season. Add in that after we likely lose the season opener vs MD (yes, I know, they stunk this year, but, realistically, I don’t see us beating them) we’re likely going to have to go 8-2 the remainder of the season to make the playoffs, since we only play 11 games next season. Stay tuned.

Well, at least we won’t have to deal with Matt Morgan, who lit us up for 38 points when we played Cornell. Morgan’s now with the Toronto Raptors G-League affiliate. Cornell’s best player this year is Jim Boehiem’s son, who’s averaging 18ppg. Cornell’s game vs us will be a continuation of its early season games against Maryland schools, having already played (and lost to) Coppin & Navy

Then there’s the curious case of Travis Ingram. He was the 3rd member of the Drayton, Prophete, Ingram recruiting class. He played in a handful of games as a freshman in 2017, before quitting the team, after which he announced he was transferring to Hampton. However, he never played a game for Hampton, as he quit school to play for something called the Chicago Ballers of something called the Junior Basketball League. My google search could not find any current information on Mr. Ingram’s whereabouts

ZM averaging 9ppg, after 8 games Gorham averaging 4.5 ppg (averaging 12 minutes playing time) after 4 games
-
Quick update on a few other ex-Tigers: Quinton Drayton is averaging 7ppg (39% shooting) for Moberly Community College (same CC JJ Matthews transferred to when he left here). Jeffrey Prophete is averaging 0.8 ppg at DII Catawba

If I’m not mistaken, I endeavored to agree that your insightful analysis that playoffs won’t be in the offing next season may very well be accurate, even though admittedly I’m not blessed with your insight into such matters. After all, I’m just a blue collar working stiff who talks these things over with the guys down at the plant, or while chugging some brewski’s down at the bowling alley

MBB finishes Charleston Classic with 76-64 win over St. Joe's

Not so sure the CAA is a weak league, but regardless, it’s still a 1-bid league. The loss to Buffalo was so brutal that if Tony Robbins were a TU fan, he would have been on this board bitching & moaning like many of us, including me. No apologies offered for that. It’s my inalienable right to be miserable after a loss like that. -
Remind me again how you lost that job in the diplomatic corps?🤣😆 You are however absolutely correct that no one is getting fired. Time will tell whether you’re correct about the football team next year, though if we could only go 14-10 with Flacco, it does beg the question of how can the team make the playoffs without him.

I shall climb off the ledge ... for now. Mat touched on much of what I was going to write, Huge game from the bench guys, most notably Gray, Gibson & Timberlake. Bench scored 33 points on 12-21 shooting, including 6-12 from 3. Dottin & Gibson combined to shoot a sizzling 8-12 from the field, including 4-5 from 3. They also combined for 6 assists (that’s good) & 6 TO’s (that’s bad). Got to admit, that so far, Dottin’s offensive game has improved from last year. Betrand continues to impress & even though Fobbs shot 4-13, he did contribute 7 boards & 4 assists. He, Sanders & Tunstall went 7-25 from the field and we still won. That’s what happens when you shoot 43% from 3. Nice to see Timberlake drain a couple 3’s. Him, Betrand, Gray, Gibson & hopefully Fobbs (heck, even Dottin & Tunstall on occasion) gives us the potential to knock down more 3’s than anytime in the past under Skerry that I can recall. A cautionary note-we struggled again vs the press. Fortunately we built up such a big lead tonight that it didn’t matter. I’m sure future opponents are taking note of this. This has to be priority #1 in terms of things that must be improved upon. -
I’ll match your 10K, but that would be a drop in the bucket

Disgraceful. Utterly unprepared for full court press. We’re incapable of winning a close game vs good competition. Totally yakked a 5-7 point lead in a matter of seconds. Coach should be embarrassed & so should the players. There’s no winner on this team-a guy who wants the ball at the end, instead of the game being too big for him. Came up small again. Same as always. It’ll never change under this coach. NEVER We’re just good enough to lose in a mind numbing manner. It’s so predictable. As soon as we had the big lead, I said to myself “we just lost.” And why? Because we ALWAYS lose in these circumstances. Players come & go & we ALWAYS lose like this.

It’s my fervent wish that there is a well heeled TU donor (or donors) out there, who is as fed up as I am, and buys him out. Now, back to reality-this ain’t LSU & he ain’t getting bought out. Belly up to the bar for another round (indefinitely) of the same mediocre, 7 win ceiling, dreck
-
In 6 seasons, 34-35, with ZERO playoff W’s (only 1 playoff appearance) and losses to powerhouses such as CCSU, Dartmouth (when they weren’t very good), Rhode Island & Elon (on multiple occasions, when Elon wasn’t good). Numbers don’t lie
-
Not according to some on here
-
I expect he will finagle a playoff bid next year or the year after (quite naturally, we will lose in the 1st round) & will remain the head coach in perpetuity. What do you expect?
