In 6 seasons, 34-35, with ZERO playoff W’s (only 1 playoff appearance) and losses to powerhouses such as CCSU, Dartmouth (when they weren’t very good), Rhode Island & Elon (on multiple occasions, when Elon wasn’t good). Numbers don’t lie
-
Not according to some on here
-
I expect he will finagle a playoff bid next year or the year after (quite naturally, we will lose in the 1st round) & will remain the head coach in perpetuity. What do you expect?
-
He’s living off 2013 accomplishments. It’s almost 2020
-
We are awash in a sea of mediocrity in both sports. Rarely bottom of the barrel awful; never A-listers; most often just meh/so-so
-
Mat, I assume I speak for the 10-20 of us on this board who really care (that number is kinda sad in and of itself) when I say I hope you keep doing what you’ve been doing all these years
-
Well, the Flacco era ended not with a bang, but a whimper. If we could only win 7 games per year with him, what does that mean with a new QB next year?
-
State of the football program is a ceiling of 7 W’s. State of the MBB program is maybe occasionally (if the OOC schedule is sufficiently weak) win at or near the 20-game level, but lose in the 1st round of conference tournament. Ceiling is losing in the 2nd round of conference tournament
-
Agree we likely would have lost in 1st round of playoffs. I will likely be excoriated for this, but if Flacco was so banged up/injured that it compromised his effectiveness, he should have been sat down, unless the backup QB is bereft of skill. And if that’s the case, why didn’t the coaching staff bring in a competent backup? Btw, this season’s backup might be next year’s starter. I will say 1 thing-this mess today makes the mess yesterday in basketball pale by comparison
-
I agree that RA needs to go. Today was unacceptable. As soon as Elon got the safety, I knew the game was over (and I suspect others did too). The reality is neither coach is going anywhere. We are on a path to irrelevance in both sports.

What is the statute of limitations on the “look where we were when we hired Skerry” argument?????????? He’s in his NINTH year. Enough with argument!!! And why can’t we have kids graduate AND success on the court? Are the two mutually exclusive? I think not. No regular season conference titles, no conference tournament titles, never won more than 1 game in the conference tournament, no NIT tournament, no dance appearances, no signature W, no ability to win close games vs good competition I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again...he’s taken us as far as he can. However, it’s pointless to call for his termination because he has 6 or more years left on his contract. So, those of us who believe we’d be better served by a parting of the ways will have to hope for the best, though I expect far less

MBB blows late lead against Buffalo, falls 76-73

The UM Moe Howard actually had a cup of coffee in the NBA, where he played 30 games, between Cleveland & the N.O. Jazz -

That was the John Lucas/Tom McMillan era. Alas, we’re definitely talking about different Moe Howard’s. -

Would have been better than the Moe Howard (of 3 Stooges fame) embarrassment of the last 90 seconds of last night’s game -
MBB being the best it’s been since the late 80’s simply isn’t good enough. All that really means is we were incredibly awful most of those years & now we’re mediocre. Whoopee!!! Now, if the barometer is making the dance, or at least the NIT, winning the regular season conference title, winning the conference tournament, or even winning more than 1 game in the conference tournament, then talk to me about how “successful” MBB is
-
If I were a degenerate gambler, than I would cry all the way to the bank. However, my measurement of success, on the court, is W’s. In that regard, last night’s fiasco in the last 90 seconds was an abject failure

We’ve yet to win 2 in a row in conference tournament play under the current regime. I’m hard pressed to see how anyone could realistically expect this squad, with its breathtaking ability to lose close games, to win 3 in a row -

Totally agree about would rather lose by 25+ than like we lost vs Kent, UF & Buffalo. These L’s are demoralizing, nothing more, nothing less -
Lousy lousy lousy lousy. Actually, the Buffalo coach wasn’t lousy. His decision to go full court press won the game

Another positive was the privilege of watching the brilliant tactical way we attacked the full court press and got off good shots coming out of TO’s at the end of the game -
I feel bad for Sanders, who played a helluva game. Still, I find no positives out of tonight’s exercise in futility. To take any positive out of a coaching staff & players who were thoroughly unprepared for a full court press is akin to telling Mrs. Lincoln that at least the play she & Abe went to at Ford’s Theatre was a good one.
-
I refuse to comment on the obvious-that this coach has taken us as far as he can-for it is pointless to do so, given the absurd contract extension he received 2 years ago. I will ponder this however...the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, & expecting a different result. As long as he continues to recruit the same guy (hard-nosed on D & pounds the glass), instead of high-IQ guys who can shoot, we will NEVER get to where we want to be. Having role players like Tunstall (missed a bunny tip-in, outmuscled on the boards, devastating turnover at the end) in at the end of close games vs good teams is exhibit A in my argument
-
Sorry, but there are no positives from tonight’s debacle. It merely cements in my mind the fact that we are inept & impotent in close games. As another poster succinctly put it, the coach & players took a feel-good win & turned it into a disgraceful L. This is how you lose some of the (few) supporters of the program. We choked; we came up small. Once again, the game was too big for our coach and players. Same as it ever was

Our record in 3-game tournaments (by that I mean where we did, or could have, played 3 games) since the one we won 2 years ago in Florida... 1 W & 7 L’s (w in 1st game of 2017 conference tournament; L in next game. Swept in 3 games in the Bahamas; L in 1st game of 2018 conference tournament; 2 L’s in Charleston.
-
These inexplicable, yet predictable, L’s will prepare us for the inexplicable, yet predictable L’s to come in conference play
