Might be a bloc of DE fans there too, especially if they have any players from the DMV
-
Yes, I heard Zorba the Greek & Aristotle Onasis will be there. Maybe even Socrates and the original Aristotle as well š

I like that weāve got commits from players from Florida and Alabama. Doesnāt mean theyāre all going to pan out, but Iāve always been a proponent of trying to poach a kid or two out of Fla every recruiting cycle. Thereās so much talent down there, itās impossible for the teams down there to keep everyone in-state. You can teach fundamentals and techniques & you can increase strength, but you canāt teach speed, and speed kills. Iām also cautiously optimistic about Danielās, the transfer RB from Syracuse. Could he be the bell cow this coming season?

What is our highest shooting percentage in any conference road game this season? It was dreadful vs Monmouth, NE & Hofstra (I think we scored something like a combined 158 points in those 3 games). I donāt think it was particularly good in the W vs DE (I doubt we shot above 40% in that game). That would leave C of C, which ironically was very likely our best shooting performance on the road. No matter how good we are in the friendly confines of TU Arena, we are eventually going to have to win 3 straight (hopefully only 3) away from campus, to grab that elusive brass ring
-
Doubt itāll be any more raucous than C of C. I mean, who knows? Weāve laid some eggs on the road, and weāve won at C of C and DE. This is hardly a revelation, but I think if we can weather the storm early and not fall behind big early, we might have a chance to steal a W

Do you mean itās no longer an auto NIT bid? I mean, the NIT could take the regular season champ (if that team doesnāt win the tournament, that is), right? Theyāre just longer required to? Frankly, I donāt really even want to discuss an NIT bid. Weāve already done that. The real goal is obvious, and need not be elaborated upon any further, after lo these many years

Notwithstanding his limited production on offense, heās a difference maker on D

Ok, if youāve never saw Kurk Lee play, you saw him tonight, in DWill. Heās not going to do this every night but damn, how refreshing is it to have a kid who can go 1-on-1 and take over a game? Big sky point to CT, whoās foul shooting down the stretch was sparkling. And did you notice he hit a shot tonight facing the basket!! So, I was very critical of Sulaiman in the chat room in the first half, but wow, he really stepped it up on D, and even on O, in the 2nd half. Kudos to Tarke who played under control and dished out 5 assists and what can you say about Loweryās D? I thought we were going to get blown out in the 1st half, but our D turned the game around in the 2nd half. And the FT was phenomenal. Actually, beyond phenomenal. Can we bottle it? What is this now, 18 straight home wins? I guess the irony is itāll probably now be tougher than ever to get teams to come play us at home. The size of the crowd was disappointing, but it was engaged right from the beginning of the game & was louder than larger crowds weāve had. I donāt know whatās going to happen in the conference tournament, but Iām going to enjoy this for now. This may be sacrilege, but , given what heās got to work with, Skerry may be doing his best coaching job since heās been here. The only real down note about tonight is Tejada is now officially in a funk, having scored I think a total of 8 points in the last three games. On to the Island of Long.
-
Letās not count our W just yet, but I like the fact that weāre playing them at home, having had a nice rest since Saturday, and if I were Skerry Iād be playing the revenge game angle, to get our guys extra motivated

Impressive research

Weād be 14-8; 7-2 in conference & our home winning streak would be up to 18, I believe. Not sure if all thatās enough, but the proposition isnāt laughable, as the one person previously replied suggests

I thought theyād have a strong student presence today, as I was thinking itās move in weekend. I hope we have a strong student turnout this Thursday, given how well weāre playing. You would think the incoming freshmen who live on campus will be interested in attending

Ok, so what if I told you CT would score 4 points (after being kicked out of the game, following a brutally bad technical foul call); Tarke (who I still love) would have a comically bad 2-17 shooting performance (howās that even possible); Tejada would continue his funk (3 total points in the last two games); and Sulaiman would score 2 points, and ā¦weād win by 11, on the road, on short rest. After May channeled his good Timberlake in the 1st half, you knew DE was going to take him away in the second half, and when they did, up stepped DWill, who was virtually unstoppable towards the end of the game. And kudos to Jones, with another solid 8 point effort, and to Lowery, for draining those two foul shots late in the game. I saved the best for the lastā¦what a clutch performance by Chase Paar. He chipped in a few points, but really played stellar D, after CT got the boot. Credit to Skerry for calling out the abomination that was the ejection of CT. As best I could see, he simply slapped the ball out of Davisās hands, which, in a big conference game, hardly seemed to have been deserving a technical foul. Having said that, CT needs to do a better job of maintaining his composure, and not giving bad refs like this an excuse to T him up. 6-2, with Wās vs DE & C of C (on the road) along with Wās vs Drexel & UNCW. I donāt know how long they can keep this up, given some of the inherent limitations they have, but for now, Iām just going to enjoy it. On to NE at home Thursday, in what should be a revenge game for us

(1) What, if any, role does the A.D. have in preemptively trying to avoid this before the schedule is made, or even bitching about it after itās disseminated to the schools (which I assume is before it goes public) in an effort to get it adjusted?
-
Wait, what? I didnāt know 2012 had that kind of coin
-
Moore is a really good PG. I thought Williams took some plays off in the first half and/or was injured. But when they got down by 14, with 11-12 minutes left, he turned it up a notch. And yes, considering most students arenāt yet on campus, and it was a dreary night & the game was on tv, the crowd was pretty good. I also donāt recall seeing many Drexel fans

I mentioned that to someone who I was sitting near at the game. It seemed like we slipped a few Xās on our end of the floor, in the 2nd half. All we need is for one of our key players to wrench a knee or something similar. Yet another facilities issue in a building that isnāt that old. I thought I heard someone near me say something about there having been an issue at a WBB home game recently?

If you told me before the game that Tejada would score 1 point, CT was going to foul out, and we were only going to hit 4 3ās, Iād have told you we were going to get blown out. Go figure. Before touching on the positives, the elephant š in the room is the atrocious foul shooting. I have no doubt they work on it in practice, but itās not translating to the games. Maybe they need a sports psychologist or hire a foul shooting savant to coach em up, I dunno. I love Tarke's game. When he drives to the basket, good things often happen. I thought CT was good on offense tonight, and even though he only had 4 boards, May & Suliaman combined for 18 rebounds. Kudos to Paar who chipped in with a couple nice baskets, and credit is due to my favorite whipping guy, Jones, who was 4-4 from the floor. And another nice game from Lowery, our Swiss Army knife, who had 5 assists. If you told me we'd be 5-2 in conference play, with 3 of those games against UNCW, C of C & Drexel, I'd have said sign me up for that, in a heartbeat. Make no mistake, this team has flaws, but they deserve credit for establishing themselves thus far as a legit candidate to finish in the top 4 in the conference. On to Delaware.

There wonāt be any students. Spring semester doesnāt start until the 29th of January

Comparing last season's squad with the 2023-24 version
TSU88 replied to mat1992's topic in Tiger Basketball
The great imponderable is what might have been with Watson. I wonder if thereās any chance he plays this season? Even if he does, heād have a lot of rust to knock off & Iām assuming heād be on a pitch count. Also, what of continuity on the court with his teammates? Heās only 5 months removed from surgery, so I still donāt know how realistic him playing this season really is -
Heās joining us just in time, as St. Maria Goretti is shutting down at the end of this school year
-
Not a bad crowd, under the circumstances. I love Tarkeās game. He can hit just enough set shot 3ās to be an outside threat, can drive the lane and get fouled or dish it off. Tejada is just a scorer. He bullied the Camels on the board as well. We didnāt need CT to score today, but he did have 9 boards. I loved that inbounds play where Lowery got the flush. I remember when we used to run that for Timberlake and he would always try to dunk it one-handed and he always missed. Lowery had 7 boards, 1 steal, a couple of assists and 4 blocks. More than makes up for his offensive game, which is unrefined at this point. Chase Paar is uncoordinated at times, but he did have a beautiful pass to Jones for a dunk. And what about the other Paar? I realize it was garbage time, but he hit a nice looking shot & threw down a dunk. Unlike his brother, he seems to have some athleticism. DWill with 7 assists, and Sulaiman & Jones combined for around 10 points and 10 boards, which is probably the best we can hope for from that tandem. I get it, Campbell is who we thought they were, but it was encouraging not to have a letdown after C of C. This sets up a big game this Thursday at home vs Drexel. Win and we knock them from the ranks of the undefeated and go a long way towards establishing ourselves as a legitimate contender for a top four conference finish
-
No such announcement was made last season with Gibson. I wouldnāt have any problem with Hicks coming back. Heās clearly been supplanted as the PG, by both DWill and Tarke, but he would have some utility coming off the bench to play maybe 10 minutes a game. That being said, he suffered this concussion over 2 months ago. I think anyone anticipating him returning has to reconcile that itās highly unlikely, to put it charitably
-
I see your point. Well, itās certainly going to be a drag on attendance, between folks who have tickets to the Ravens, but others who will simply choose to watch the Ravens at home, bars, partiesā¦.

I hear they make a tasty soup. Some would say mm mm good!!
