  1. Always satisfying to beat Delaware. Also an important W, in that it staved off playoff elimination and sets up another elimination game next week vs Stony Brook. Great coming out party for Caleb Smith. Glad he’s only a junior. Flacco was outstanding. 3 fumbles was bad, fortunately didn’t cost us the game (I’m thinking Delaware only turned 1 of the 3 into points). There QB is dynamic; he almost made a phenomenal play at the end, but fortunately started his slide a bit too soon. Our D struggles mightily with getting off the field on 3rd & 4th down, especially when it’s 3rd & long. Attendance was awful-little over 5K on a glorious fall day.

ANOTHER FALL BARBECUE -- TOWSON 31, CHICKENS 24

It would be inconceivable that we wouldn’t make playoffs at 8-4, assuming we get to 8-4. I haven’t done the research, but I’m highly skeptical there’s any precedent for an 8-win team not getting in. The problem with Richmond & UNH winning is that it might eliminate any remote chance we have of getting in at 7-5. Much as today’s game was a playoff elimination game, so too will be next Saturday’s game vs Stony Brook.

Another perspective on TF at the next level

About Flacco, not Moon I repeat, I’m not denigrating TF. In fact, I hope he makes it in the NFL. Would be great for him & possibly our program. Totally agree QB’s in the NFL don’t have to be 6’4 with a cannon arm. I already acknowledged TF will go to camp with a team. Just curious why you can’t acknowledge in turn that his skill set might play well in the CFL

We’ll have to agree to disagree. ”Doug Flutie, please report to the white courtesy phone.”

Another perspective on TF at the next level

Saying he might be suited to the CFL isn’t denigrating his game. It’s simply a recognition that his running abilities, on a wider field, might be an attractive commodity. Several former CFL QB’s have migrated south an found success in the NFL. “Warren Moon, please report to the White courtesy phone.”

Another perspective on TF at the next level

He’ll definitely go to camp with a team, it’s more a question of will he be drafted or go as an UDFA? If I had to guess, I’d guess the latter. Analytics would suggest that an FCS QB who isn’t very tall and doesn’t have a cannon for an arm is more likely to be an UDFA. Of course, it only takes 1 team to take a late round flier on him. I wonder if his game might be better suited to the CFL?

No. 2 JMU rolls over No. 17 Towson, 27-10

Agree that at 8-4, we’re a lock for the playoffs. 7-5, iffy, at best. This Saturday is essentially a playoff elimination game, as the loser will have 5 losses. Hoping for a W. Even with a win though, the road to 8-4 would still have to go through a trip to Stony Brook & a home game vs Elon (and a road game vs W&M). Have we beaten these teams in previous seasons, yes. Will we beat all 3 this season...🤷‍♂️

    Scrimmage update

Hope these 4 players (the 2 who didn’t play + the 2 with “minor” concussions) are ready to go in a week and a half

    Towson @ JMU

Flacco held the ball waaaaay too long today. If no one is open, get outside the box & throw the damn thing away.

    Scrimmage update

Time will tell. You may wind up being right, though I think it’s a bit premature to extrapolate such a conclusion based on the fact we lost a preseason scrimmage to a Big10 team, especially without knowing the details of the scrimmage, like who played, how many minutes they played and the final score

    Marketing

The intangible benefit is I enjoy it. The university isn’t going to continue or discontinue the program because of my personal enjoyment. If this answer isn’t good enough for you, alas
  12. Nice stat stuffer W. 6 TD passes in 1 half, regardless of who the opponent is, is impressive. Same for Leatherbury catching 5 TD’s in 1 half. He was only 2 away from tying the all-time NCAA record for 1 game. Flacco otoh, wasn’t even close, as the record is 11 TD passes in 1 game!!!

    Bucknell Preview

Speak on it, because I agree 100% Beating those raga muffins today does nothing to change the fact that there needs to be a sea change in the program, starting with the HC. When your combined attendance in 2 weeks (with glorious weather) is 11K, the program is generating no buzz. If we lose next week, I believe we have to run the table (Delaware, Elon, Stony Brook & W&M) to make playoffs. Does anyone not wearing black & gold glasses honestly think that’s realistic to expect?

    Marketing

I agree with sr16. Not everything is susceptible to analysis merely by a ledger sheet. There can be intangible benefits to having a football team. I’m probably not going to weigh in on this topic any further, as I prefer to save my expertise and wisdom for matters pertaining to on-field issues 😆

Justin Covington out for the season

I assume Shane’s tweet means he’s planning on pursuing a medical redshirt & playing next season?
  16. https://towsontigers.com/news/2019/10/12/football-9-towson-downed-on-saturday-night-vs-ualbany.aspx What a farce. Albany’s WR’s, Jerry Rice & Terrell Owens, with 300 yards receiving. Albany QB Tom Brady with 4 TD’s. Albany’s RB, Jim Brown, with 120 yards. Our D stinks. Our O had 1 real TD drive today. Flacco was under constant pressure, we have no running game, and I can only assume our receivers were getting no separation while Flacco was running for his life. 4,800 attendance. Who wants to watch this dreck? Maybe we beat Bucknell next week, though I wouldn’t assume anything at this point. After that, it is entirely realistic we don’t win another game. I defy anyone to tell me there are any automatic W’s, beyond maybe next week. This coach has taken us as far as he can. It is time for a change. I’d love to hear his explanation why he didn’t bring in 1 RB in the last recruiting class. And the D coordinator seems to be working wonders 🙄 What a joke

    Towson embarrassed 38-21 to Albany

I predict the recent passage of the law in California, regarding payment of college athletes, will be the beginning of the end of the NCAA as we know it

    CAA Basketball preview

With all the defections from the conference after last season, you might as well throw darts at a dartboard, in terms of preseason rankings. My guess, and it’s strictly a guess, is we finish around 6th. Truthfully, it all comes down to the conference tournament anyway.

    Towson embarrassed 38-21 to Albany

There are lies, damn lies & statistics. Point is, he’s a .500 coach, who’s had 5 losing seasons out of 10 (may or may not be 6 out of 11 by end of November). He’s only made playoffs 3X & has only won a playoff game in one of those 3 appearances, and in the other two appearances he lost at home to teams from the Patriot League & Pioneer League (I think that’s Duquesne’s conference).
  20. TSU88

    Towson embarrassed 38-21 to Albany

By my count, he’s 62-62 (including playoffs) in his tenure, which began in 2009. No playoffs W’s since 2013 season. In fact, all his playoff W’s (3) were that season. Has made the playoffs 3 out of 11 seasons (I’m counting this season as not making the playoffs. That could change, but I doubt it). Yes, I know he took over a program that was at the bottom, so you needn’t remind me of that.

    Towson embarrassed 38-21 to Albany

Attendance Saturday, or lack thereof, was shocking. No O’s, Ravens, Terps or Navy games competing with us, and a nice weather day with us ranked #9 (even though that, in retrospect was vastly inflated) in the country. Student attendance was sparse. There was, or is, a school of thought that there will be a correlation between the increase in students living on campus and student attendance. I’ve never subscribed to this theory. I don’t know if it’s poor marketing or just plain old apathy (probably a combo of the two) but I don’t think student attendance will ever be consistently strong. As for paying customers, you would think that in a fairly large metro area, where you can’t swing a stick without hitting a TU alum, and with no real competition for the hearts & minds of local college football fans, that attendance would be better. You would think that, and you’d be wrong. FBS is a pipe dream, which is fine as far as I’m concerned. Is anything more irrelevant in FBS football than the UMass or ODU’s of the world? I just hope we stay in FCS & get a new coach to start the 2022 season. Of course, that would mean not making the playoffs this season or the next two, since it appears he automatically gets a one year extension for making the playoffs

    Third commitment

Mat, you sure we have 2 ships left? Tunstall, Howard, Sanders & Fobbs are seniors. Am I forgetting someone? Of course it’s possible a player who isn’t a senior will leave in the off-season

    Any video on this guy?

    Towson embarrassed 38-21 to Albany

Tualum, this is not a criticism of you, but if what you say is true, that the bar for the football program is set at “somewhat relevant,” that is disheartening, at least to me.

    Towson embarrassed 38-21 to Albany

Sad, but true. This is why playing a Florida-type game every year is essential. That $500K (I’m guessing, but doubt I’m far off) check from that game probably subsidizes the football program to a large degree
