Surprised to see UNH at 7 & Nova at 9 in the preseason poll. Is Richmond at 10? Also a bit surprised to see Rhode Island, which was pretty decent last year, at 8. I also wonder if Maine is sustainable as a top tier team now that their coach bolted for JMU. Maybe there’s enough leftover talent for now, but will that talent pipeline dry up?

That’s a lot of offensive linemen. Any idea if any more additions are forthcoming? Summer camp must start fairly soon.

Who?? Kidding, I know who he is. Dude could never stay out of the cold tub & on the field. Wish him the best at Bowie

Just saw that we’re playing U of Florida, in Gainesville, on Thursday November 14th. So, both football & basketball going to Gainesville this coming season

Mat, I looked this kid up online. The only stats I could find show him averaging 5ppg, 41% from the field (only 28% from 3) for Seward County CC in Kansas. He apparently transferred to Pratt CC in Kansas, but I’m not sure he’s ever played for them. Gotta admit I’m puzzled by this offer, but I guess we’ve scouted him & saw something we liked 🤷♂️

Personally, I don’t think the OOC slate is bad; Florida, Vermont, Kent State, Cornell, UMBC, GW, the tournament in Charleston & the one in DC. I have no problem with us playing Morgan State & while I would prefer not to play a D3, I seem to recall that last year just about every other team in the CAA (if not every other team) played a D3. Heck, hasn’t MD played Bowie & Catholic U recently? I do agree that, compared to other CAA teams, our home OOC schedule is lackluster. I don’t know what the remedy for that is

Can’t have enough O-Line depth, although if Gilmore is really 390 I would think he needs to lose some serious poundage. I still think we need help on the D-Line
-
I’m not sure how objective “Big Shots Nation” is, since it’s a recruiting service, but I like their description of Barnes as a “strong scoring guard with a deadly mid range game” (is that another way of saying he can’t shoot the 3?) His stats at the 2018 Governor’s Challenge (16 ppg & 4.7 boards & 4.3 apg) are impressive. Hopefully it was against good competition

Just was reading some stuff about him on a Nebraska message board. He didn’t get on the field in his 3 years there, 1 of which I think was lost to injury. When a player transfers out of a program, I suppose you need to take some of the message board comments with a grain of salt. Some questioned his work ethic & one comment was to the effect he’s more interested in being a WWF wrestler than a football player (apparently he wrestled in HS). In any event, he appears to have the physical tools & hopefully is motivated to make the most of his remaining eligibility. I say welcome aboard & give him a clean slate to start with here.

OLB transfer from Nebraska. Nice

Interesting that we would sign a PG, with Gibson & Dottin already in the fold. I couldn’t find any video on this kid. What’s the scouting report on him? Still have 3 open ships for incoming 2020 class (might be more if anyone transfers out after this upcoming season). With Fobbs, Sanders & Tunstall graduating after this upcoming season, I would like to see 2 of the remaining ships used on a shooting guard & a big.

Danian Swoope (8ppg) & Nathan Priddy (7ppg) are transferring out of Elon. Santa Ana & Seibring have graduated. They might be epically bad next season.

Kids with character flaws (e.g., overinflated egos) do stuff like this. What Horton did is even more reprehensible than what Zane did. At least Zane bolted in time to give Skerry a chance to backfill his position (see Brian Fobbs). It’ll be much harder at this late stage for UD to bring in a quality replacement. Bringing in legit talent as a low-to-mid major is becoming increasingly pointless, as there’s a good chance the kids people are going to tell him he’s too good to stay at (fill in the blank) & should transfer to (fill in the name of a bigger school).
-
My fondest wish would be that his leaving have a huge negative impact on UD. Putting that aside, it seems to me there ought to be a deadline for entering the portal. Most teams end their season in early-mid-March. It’s now late June & kids are still entering the portal.
-
Players can still enter the portal at this juncture? On paper, this might appear to be a significant loss for UD, but they have 3 transfers who sat out last season, plus Ryan Allen returning

I was actually going to post something, but about how cool Jett is as his 1st name. Sorta sounds like something out of the 80’s flick, “Top Gun.” Anyway, I’ll have to look at his highlights online. I assume he’s a 3-point sharpshooter. It’s well established on here that I’m forever pleading for Skerry to recruit better shooters, so I’d love to this kid commit to us

I’m going to reserve judgment until I see our OOC schedule. But, Wofford, UVA, Oklahoma State, VCU & UNC are some impressive home games for some of our conference brethren. JMU gets UVA to open their new arena & we got Navy 👿😡
-
Thanks. If my memory serves me, we usually open conference play on the road. It’ll be nice to start at home vs NE, who lost a bunch of players & Hofstra, who I think will still be pretty good, even without JWF
-
Is the conference schedule out?

Loyola LAX star Pat Spencer will play basketball for Northwestern this fall as a grad transfer
-
Sad commentary about the dearth of HOF candidates from MBB. When the time comes, Morsell has got be in, IMHO.
-
I’m not sure I would take it. We’ve played ODU at home. Harvard playing at NE is nothing more than a crosstown game; not dissimilar from us vs UMBC. I would like to play Davidson at home. The rest of NE’s home schedule...meh

The NCAA has announced that starting this season the 3-point line will be moved back to a distance of 22 feet, 1 3/4 inches, the same distance used in international play. Since the 2008-09 season, the college 3-point line has been 20 feet, 9 inches. Prior to that, it was 19 feet, 9 inches. By comparison, the NBA 3-point line ranges from 22 feet in the corners, out to 23 feet, 9 inches.

Thanks for the updates. Always nice to read new posts during this slow time of the year. Its a Captain Obvious statement, but we’ve got to be able to win in the trenches. I don’t care how many skilled players we have, if we’re deficient on the O-Line and/or D-Line, we’re sunk. The best pass defense isn’t good secondary players (though it’s nice when you have them) but rather it’s the other teams QB running for his life and hopefully noticing how pretty the sky is as he looks up after getting knocked on his ass. Really hoping for good news on the transfer front before summer camp
