I’m still baffled how Prophete could avg 30ppg in HS & not make a single basket in his freshman year here. I can see some drop off between HS & D1, but he went off a cliff

His HS coach stated that when coach’s would inquire about Gibson, they always asked, “what about his frame”? So, it’s fair to suggest his slight build might have put some schools off. But, his tangible numbers are impressive, he’s a winner & I would assume he’s smart, having gone to Sidwell Friends. Is he the savior of TU basketball? Probably not. Does he have potential to be a good player? Sure. Time will tell. Perhaps the biggest takeaway is that by signing him, perhaps PS has demonstrated he’s willing to bring in kids who are fundamentally sound, even if they can’t bench press a school bus. Let’s wish the kid the best & hope that we got a steal.

    D1 Transfers from Verbal Commits

Isaiah White not all that appealing. Poor shooting percentages; scores 13.5 by virtue of taking a ton of shots.

As bleak as it looks for W&M, I suspect some of these guys will be sweet talked into staying once they hire a new coach. I still say the biggest danger for them is Knight putting his name in the NBA draft & getting good feedback, at which point he bolts

Zion is transferring here?!!!😆 I’d like us to use 1 of the remaining ships on a big, but not a bruiser; more like a finesse type who can shoot from the outside-kind of in the euro mold

I’m one of the people who’s been clamoring for a PG with high basketball IQ, who can shoot the 3. I’m not saying this kid is the 2nd coming of Nate Archibald (when he lead the NBA in scoring & assists in the same season), but I’m optimistic about his addition. At least he possibly breaks the mold, in terms of other Skerry PG’s, who have been limited, to put it charitably, in terms of their shooting & passing. So, we don’t have to be polyanas, but a little more optimism & a little less pessimism would be nice

Averaged 19ppg & hit 70 3’s. Lead his team to DC HS championship. Maybe, just maybe, PS finally got a good PG.

    D1 Transfers from Verbal Commits

One of our coaches is following 10 or more transfers on his Twitter. I guess when a kid announces he’s transferring, assistant coaches from other schools reach out & start following them. If we can land a good sit out transfer, I’m all for it. We’d still have 1 open ship to use for a kid who would play next year

I know you didn’t say Brown was coming. I simply pointed out that even though the coach at W&M who recruited him is gone, the kid still has strong family ties to the school. Do you see anyone else possibly bolting from our squad?

Encouraged by this signing. Does this mean the Phillips kid (from N. Carolina) is off the table? He had a visit here this past weekend. Wouldn’t mind having them both. Mat, I don’t know about Cameron Brown, unless he’s de-committed from W&M. I read somewhere his mother is a W&M graduate. So, 2 ships left to fill. Let’s get a guard who can shoot & the last one either a grad transfer or maybe a transfer who has to sit out next season.

W&M PG L.J. Owens is transferring. Will the last player leaving Kaplan Hall please turn out the lights.

    2019 Basketball Offers

Ok, so I found his stats online. Leading scorer on his team at 14ppg. Shot 57% on 2’s (90-159); shot 46% on 3’s (40-87). So he shot 53% overall. Also shot 77% from the foul line. Team went 22-9. No idea what the caliber of competition was like.

I agree that there’s not much film on him. And yes, the 3-point shooting % sounds good, though I’d like to see more video & see specific stats.

    2019 Basketball Offers

This reads we offered him last summer. His twitter claims he also has an offer from Canisus. Us & Canisus appear to be his only D1 offers. Interesting trivia note-he’s the son of former MLB outfielder Mike Cameron

So. I don’t know how to post this clip of Gibson being interviewed by a DC tv station. While it doesn’t outright say he’s coming here, it certainly sounds that way.

    2019 Basketball Offers

Ok, maybe, but I’m still not crazy about the idea. If it did happen, he & Solomon would both be juniors after older brother sat out next year. One question I would have is whether there is anyone on our staff capable of coaching up a big like this kid, during the year he would sit out? If not, I say pass & go after a 6’8 or 6’9 kid with a bit more polish on offense. I just don’t want another kid who can’t throw a beach ball in the ocean.

    2019 Basketball Offers

He’s very limited on offense. Averaged 6mpg & 0.8 ppg. I could see him as a useful role player on a team that needs a big to come in for a few minutes & grab a few boards and block a shot or two. But we need shooters, not another athlete who can’t shoot.

I’m all about analytics. Give me a guy who shoots 40% from 3 over a guy who shoots 50% from 2. The former scores 12 points on 10 shots; the latter scores 10 points on 10 shots. I’m curious to see how things play out for W&M. Much more concerned however about what happens with our 3 open scholarships.

Just went on the W&M board. Pierce & Audige have both left open the door for possibly returning to W&M, once it names a new coach. But why post that you’re “exploring options” if you’re not really leaving? Pierce can pick his P5 school & he already has his undergrad degree. Hard to imagine he comes back. Audige was very impressive as a freshman (more so than our ZM). So, if he’s willing to sit a year, he can go to a bigger program. Also, who knows if he wants to deal with the academic rigors at W&M? Milon probably has his degree too. At 13ppg, he might be a P5 grad transfer too. You can bet Knight is exploring his options. He’d be foolish not to. Whether it’s grad transfer (assuming he graduates before the fall) or NBA draft. Its too soon right now to know for sure, but W&M might go from preseason favorite for next season to fighting Elon to stay out of last place
