If that’s the case, we should move our tipoff to either noon or 2pm

At the end of the day, there’s only so many chess ♟️ pieces to move. I put this question out-who on this team would be a starter on another mid-major? CT would certainly start on some other teams, but I highly doubt the offense would run through him. May? Meh. He had a 4-game stretch where he averaged like 16ppg, but other than that he’s shown himself to be a guy who’s going to score about 8ppg, with a subpar shooting percentage. DWill? Probably not. He’s not really a PG, and small for a 2 guard. A nice guy to come off the bench, for an offensive jolt, but probably not a starter. Sulaiman? That’s a hard no. Tejada? Probably notwithstanding any defensive liabilities. Tarke? Absolutely. So, CT, Tarke, and perhaps Tejada. And even these guys, on a good, or better than good, mid-major, probably would be complimentary guys, not A-listers. X’s and O’s are important, but we need more Jimmy’s and Joe’s

Not saying you’re wrong, but I think there’s also a talent deficiency, which is also on the coaches. Would have been interesting to see if Watson would have appreciably moved the needle, but I’m not sure

You’re not alone in your frustration. Disclaimer: I didn’t watch the game today, as I knew it would be another depressing outcome. I did glance at the score occasionally online, and wasn’t surprised to see we had 17 points at the end of the first half. Two conference road games & 2 losses, with 102 points scored (for an average of 51 points per game). Needless to say, conference road wins will be at a premium. And you’re right, the ceiling for this team is around 16 wins, a middle of the pack finish in the conference, and a quick exit from the conference tournament. I wish I could say there’s light at the end of the tunnel, but sadly I don’t think there is. No matter how many potentially promising freshmen and/or portal players he brings in, history has shown something will go off the rails. This may be harsh, but he’s not a winner. 3 more years of this (at least). The thought of this unentertaining and unsuccessful brand of ball 🏀 is tough to fathom, but that’s the reality. Sad that I’ve reconciled myself to this. I guess it’s one of the stages of grief

Seems to me that our mind numbingly slow pace helps other teams stay close in games, since we rarely, if ever, take advantage of opportunities to build a lead by pushing the ball. We’ve got guys who can run the court, but Skerry is never going to change. If he had the Showtime Lakers, he would rein them in. Imagine what the scores of our games would be if there were no shot clock, like in the old Phil Ford, 4 corners era
  7. Yeah, I neglected to mention in my previous post about the ridiculous 30-minute delay. Not acceptable & makes us look like a Mickey Mouse outfit. Also agree that CT has no business handling the ball like he did tonight at the end of the game. And May disappointed again on offense, though he gets credit for his D tonight. Last thing is an observation I made tonight. Early in the first half DWill did (or failed to do) something that pissed Skerry off. Then on the defensive end, Tarke picked up a foul. Skerry immediately yanked both from the game. Just seems to me that he’s putting unnecessary pressure on some of these guys to basically play perfect or be benched. I wonder if that doesn’t tend to make guys tentative, for fear of making a mistake and being benched
  8. Not pretty, but mission accomplished, in terms of holding serve at home. I mean, 2-1 after 3 conference games is not bad. DWill was the go-to guy in the 1st half, then more so Tejada, Tarke and CT there after. CT again with the type of game we need from him-12 points, I think 8 boards and 4 assists. I really like Tarke’s game. I also noticed he played some PG tonight, & I thought quite effectively. So, at least we do have 2 PG’s, since I assume Hicks isn’t coming back. This probably means less minutes for Lowery. I like Lowery’s D, but let’s face it, his offensive game is a work in progress. What can you say about Tejada? The kid’s a scorer and seems to possess that quality we’ve yearned for for years-the ability to hit a big shot in the clutch. I didn’t like the end of regulation, especially the terrible shot DWill took at the buzzer. But at least we didn’t yak in OT. Ok, on to Boston. Not optimistic about that game, on short turnaround time, but hopefully we can eke out another rock fight.

    2023 General Football News

Too bad, with a 12-game season, we only have 5 home games. You would think we’ll have to go 8-4 to make the playoffs. While you still have to play the games between the lines, it’s not far fetched to suggest Cincy, Nova and NDSU are all L’s. If that turns out to be true, we’d probably have to go 8-1 in the other 9 games to make the playoffs

The prudent thing for him to have done would have been to have done nothing. It’s doubtful we were in jeopardy of Skerry leaving for another job. He was coming off yet another conference tournament where he failed to win more than one game (coming close vs C of C was still a fail; a close fail, but a fail nonetheless). He should have simply tabled any talk of an extension until after this season. And I don’t buy any argument that an extension was necessary to avoid Skerry being labeled a lame duck coach during recruiting. Maybe that’s an issue with high school recruits, but it doesn’t hold water when it comes to guys in the portal, who are short term rentals

Why do you conflate two issues? Not a single, solitary post on this board has even remotely tried to rationalize the ridiculous extension he got. That being said, is it the player’s fault that he got it? Should we take no pleasure in beating UNCW? Nobody, I repeat nobody, has any false allusions about this team. I grudgingly defend your right to express your opinions, but you really do at times sap the energy from this forum and I suspect you’ve so worn down some folks that they no longer post, or worse, no longer even read posts on here. We get it, Skerry can’t win close games; can’t win in the conference tournament; can’t recruit a PG; plays a desultory style of basketball and certainly didn’t deserve the 8-year extension, or the last secretive one. I mean, nobody’s disputing any of these things-you’re arguing with phantoms. You’ve made your points, ad nauseum. ENOUGH!!!

  15. As I have been dubbed a “self indulgent wordsmith” by one of my colleagues (a badge I wear with honor 😆). I love your usage of “persnickety.” I dare say we are probably the only D1 message board where that word has been used, expect maybe for one of those highfalutin Ivy League schools
  16. Let’s just enjoy today’s win, and take it a day at a time. I’m sure there’s things we’d all like to see improve and change, and no one has a monopoly on the suffering that has been TU basketball for the last 30+ years. I guess what people perceive as the negativity in your posts is born of your frustration, but this is a forum for the sharing of thoughts and ideas, so you do you. As for me, I just think it’s okay sometimes to acknowledge something good (like today) without minimizing it or tearing it down.
  17. So, since UNCW beat Kentucky, does this mean we’re better than UK?🤔😆 Realistically, I think most would have been satisfied with a 1-1 split to start conference play. Of course, I don’t think many would have predicted the W would be over UNCW. Their guy White was a scoring machine today, but I found his continual exaggerated body flailing on offense, anytime one of our guys breathed on him, really annoying and worthy of a call against him for flopping. After the uber depressing Monmouth game, this was a pleasant surprise. (And no, it doesn’t mean he should get another extension. He should have never gotten the last one). This was the kind of game we need from CT. Tarke too. Obvious kudos to Tejada, who, after a miserable game vs Monmouth, drained 3 3 balls today, including the game winner. I also liked how Williamson was able to break their D down on a couple of occasions, and drive for baskets. How refreshing was it to actually win a game at the buzzer, rather than throwing up a ridiculous shot, or not getting a shot off at all. Now, OTOH, why can’t May shoot foul shots anymore? He literally almost shot an air ball today. Also, Jones needs to be taken out of the rotation. I’m sorry but he’s inept at every facet of the game. He’s so bad, I’d rather see Coleman play over him.

C’mon man. Stop. There’s a time and place for everything & this ain’t the time and place to be bitching about that. We just won a thrilling buzzer beater vs a team that beat UK.

He isn’t interested? I’m sure he’s not. But what about the fanbase (all 15 of us 😆) and the faculty & students. The optics on this are bad. Even if it’s not the case, it comes off as a back room deal, designed to keep the extension hush hush

    General MBB 2023-24 thread

Well, I strenuously disagree about moving down divisions. But I do agree that early returns on his decisions regarding MBB, WBB & football should be scrutinized closely. I’ll defer on the WBB hire as, quite candidly, I do not follow that program. But his football hire disappointed me. I think he squandered an opportunity to bring in a young coach with DMV recruiting ties, who hopefully would have used as a lily pad by building up the program and then moving on to greener pastures. Now, it is entirely possible I’ll be proven wrong on Shinnick, and all the better if so. But extending Skerry is indefensible. Was he not aware of Skerry’s dismal postseason record? If he wasn’t, shame on him. If he was, why in the hell extend him? I doubt other schools were beating down Skerry’s door. I only wish that had been the case. Giving him an extension was completely tone deaf and a major fail

I hate to say I told you so, but …. We’re never going to be rid of him. I’ll bet you anything he’ll get another extension before this contract expires, for some nonsense like having the team that reads the most bedtime stories to local urchins

Fun fact: Youppi was once ejected from a game because Dodger’s manager Tommy Lasorda got so annoyed with his zany antics around the Dodgers dugout that he whined to the umpires until they finally relented and gave poor Youppi the heave ho
