    2019 Basketball Offers

It’s very prestigious to get offered by the University of Towson. Who is he, btw?

Just summing up my own views: Skerry deserves credit for a number of things, such as rescuing the program from the PK abyss; having a number of successful regular seasons; graduating players; and having players engage in community service. OTOH, I believe Skerry deserves scrutiny for the following reasons: inability to win in conference tournament play; inability to win the regular season conference title (with the NIT bid that goes with winning the regular season title); an unwillingness and/or inability to adapt his style by bringing in kids who have better offensive skill sets; & a trend (last 5 years) where the average conference record is 8-10. I have repeatedly stated that this year was doomed before it ever began, by virtue of the ZM & Gorham transfers, COMBINED with the failure to backfill those vacancies with skilled offensive players (instead of the likes of Dottin, Betrand, Sanders, Howard & the kid from Turkey). I am taking a wait & see approach, given that we still have at least 2 open scholarships to fill. Do I believe this coach has plateaued here? Yes I do. Do I think we’re trending in the right direction? No, I don’t. Could that all turn around next season? Of course it could. Is PS going anywhere anytime soon? With the contract extension he got, almost certainly not. So, I hope for the best & expect the worst.

You can’t just blithely wipe away the 26-8 conference record during Benimon’s 2 years here. Unfortunately, because of the mess PK left behind, we weren’t eligible for the conference tournament in the 2012-13 season, which might have been our best chance to go dancing. The next season, we could only manage 1 W in the conference tournament, even with Benimon, & the tournament being played in Baltimore. But, Tigers2012 has a point; in the 5 post-Benimon seasons, our conference record is 41-49, which comes out to an average of 8-10 per season. 5 years is not a small sample size, but rather suggests a pattern.

YES. I’ll drive down to DC & bring him to Towson if need be

I am waiting for the weekend

Keep the faith bruh. As for me, I’ll take it 1 game at a time. If we make it past JMU (IF) we’ll live to fight another day.

    2019 Basketball Offers

I just watched a 10 minute clip of this kid hitting like a zillion 3’s & some drives to the basket. Clearly, he can shoot; safe to assume he has a high basketball IQ; and he’s played against some good competition & just lead his team to a championship. I suppose the question is whether he can hold up his end on D. He strikes me as the type of player W&M would go after, or maybe Patriot, or Ivy League

I don’t know how to post a link to an article, but you may want to read this NYT piece from last year, about how Sidwell has begun producing D1 players like Josh Hart (Villanova), a kid named Bey at NC State, & a kid currently at Penn

If he can shoot & be a floor general, I don’t care if he went to Sidwell or the school of hard knocks.

Tiger93, that is a lucid, intelligent, well-thought out analysis. I tend to vent when I’m still in the emotional throes of the most recent loss, but I’m willing to concede that this year was a lost season before it even started, with the transfer of ZM & Gorham. I will have no such patience if PS doesn’t bring in impact recruits this off-season, but the immutable reality is PS isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, which ties into your point about we would even want the current AD to be charged with choosing a new coach

    Today was rock bottom

8 more years of this crap. 8 more years of airballs, bricks clanking of the rim & scrub opponents raining 3’s on us with impunity. 8 more years of assinine turnovers. Santa Ana just hit another 3 from the team bus

Hang in there, we need you!! Things have got to get better, I think 🤔

I’ll extend it out farther...what did the coaches see in him that they valued him as a recruit? Presumably, his outside shooting fundamentals were there for the world to see. Was it because he got away with his bulling his way into the lane in prep school against 6’4” centers? Shouldn’t it have been apparent that wouldn’t work at this level?

It’s all about winning...consistently. If, as you say, UMBC is starting to draw 2K+ a game, no reason we can’t. Right now though, our product is not entertaining and not winning. I’m a broken record, I get it, but it’s on this coach to recruit better players. As a season ticket holder, it’s depressing to watch a team struggle to score 25 points in a half, & 60 points in a game. Who wants to spend hard earned $ to watch Dottin & Betrand throw up bricks, Howard miss almost 7 out of 10 shots, Sanders to foul out, Solomon to miss bunnies...?

It’s depressing to me that we have SEVEN more years of this; after 8 years of not winning a regular season conference title & having yet to win more than 1 game in any conference tournament during that same time. Why, why, why???

The extension of that argument is to eliminate football & basketball at TU. I would prefer to develop consistent (not once a generation) winners in those sports & vastly improve marketing. While I’m probably naive in this regard, I’d like to think it’s possible that marrying those 2 things together would increase interest & revenues

And why we’re talking about recruiting, now that McNeil is graduating, it appears we won’t have anyone on the team from Baltimore next season. We’ll also have no DC kids (Drayton is PG County, so I guess that’s sort of close to DC) & 1 Virginia kid (Thompson, the incoming freshman). Just wondering if a local assistant with ties to the DMV would help us do a better job of recruiting what is supposed to be a fertile recruiting ground

The way. I look at it, with the players we return next season, having an impact freshman isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity. History has proven this coach isn’t going to bring in a good JUCO PG & he rarely brings in a grad transfer (Bilal Dixon & the big guy from Dayton. Am I forgetting anyone?) Otherwise, unless Dottin suddenly learns to shoot (it’s still shocking to me that a D1 PG is such a fundamentally poor shooter) we’ll start next season without a quality PG

Played for the title?!!! Whatchu talkin bout Willis? We’ve only made it to the 2nd round of the tournament 2X under PS that I can recall; once at the Civic Center when we lost to W&M (Benimon team); once when we lost in the 2nd round after beating NE (ZM freshman year).

I disagree that impact freshman in the CAA are few & far between. Just this year alone you had Toews, Wynters & Audige (who scored in the teens against us the other night). I’m skeptical PS is going to land any this off-season. I hope he proves me wrong. And after Ivory, Starr & Howard, please, please no JUCO PG!!!
  22. Interesting that he said “we still have a couple of ships. At least.” Also interesting when he said, “I’m going to be in the mindset of playing guys I’m going to bring back....” (when talking about the conference tournament, I suppose).

I’ll be saying “wait’ll next year” until I’m on social security. By the time this coach gets us back to the dance, we’ll all be wearing silver jumpsuits & getting around in hovercrafts
  24. I’ll give credit where credit is due; Santa Ana had a game for the ages. But, how many times has that happened to us this season? The kid from Cornell also almost scored 40. Hell, a D3 kid dropped 30 on us this season. Aside from that, Elon had other guys who torched us today. If this game doesn’t prove my point about how we’re in the Stone Age, when it comes to not recruiting 3-point shooters, nothing ever will. And I don’t want to hear how we can’t have a team of slow guys who can shoot, but can’t play D. The 2 don’t have to be mutually exclusive; there are actually kids out there who can do both. Aside from the humiliation of getting run by Elon at home on senior day, I’m not sure we got a single 50-50 ball today. Completely outhustled, outplayed & outcoached. Does anyone REALISTICALLY have any optimism about this program going forward? What have we got? Fobbs? He’s gone after next season anyway. Solomon? He has potential. Timberlake? Maybe. After that, who else is there? Christ, did anyone see Dottin try to shoot a 3-pointer today? It’s awful. Betrand isn’t much better. Sanders has 2 fouls before the opening tip. Howard is nothing more than a backup. Maybe we’ll have an impact freshman next year, you know, like other programs in the conference do. Maybe Gray will be an impact player, but he only averaged 6-7 ppg at USD. 14-22 the last 2 years in conference play. 8 years without winning more than 1 game in the conference tournament. And we’ve got 8 more years of this. Meanwhile, UMBC is looking like they’re going dancing for the 2nd straight year, even after losing their 2 top players from last season

He lost the team last year. Today would suggest he’s lost this team too. He ought to be fired
