Let’s start by beating them next Thursday
-
I actually can’t stand their coach. He just always looks so smug to me. I’d say I’m envious though of how he seems to always get skilled offensive players. Of course, it hasn’t gotten them to the promised land, but I still believe that with Knight, they are capable of winning 3 straight in the conference tournament. As an aside, I’m impressed that they have a kid on their team, Pierce, who graduated in 3 years, with a double major, & is already in law school. That’s pretty damn impressive & what being a student-athlete is all about. With all that being said, I hope we beat the hell out of them next Thursday
-
Btw, don’t look now Delaware, but W&M is only 1 game behind you for 4th place, after beating C of C tonight. Nathan Knight with his 3rd straight 30 point game. We need Delaware to beat Drexel Saturday.
-
Btw, we may not be in 6th place. We now have the same record as Drexel, so it’s possible they have some tiebreaker over us & have dropped us for the present to 7th place
-
What’s really puzzling to me is not just his dreadful shooting from the field, but Dottin is one of the worst foul shooters, especially considering he’s a guard, I’ve ever seen. When he shoots a foul shot it’s like he’s angry at the ball-he literally just flicks it at the basket. How were the coaches not aware of this when recruiting him? I’ll say this much-Sanders has dramatically improved his foul shooting & so has Tunstall. I’d make Dottin shoot a couple hundred foul shots a day, every day, this off-season
-
I knew we were toast when Dottin took the last shot in regulation. Really?? Can’t be too hard on the kid though; as you pointed out he had 7 assists & played some good D. Still, watching him & Howard shoot a combined 3-20 was hard to watch. I’m not into moral victories. However, there were some positives. Sanders with another double/double (could this be a harbinger of things to come next season) & Solomon U with 14 points on 7-9 shooting. Of course, Fobbs with another game of near 30 points. Well, at least JMU & UNCW lost. Drexel was off tonight. We’re clinging to 6th place at the moment.

Well, me too. So, if we run the table, I’ll be over Mars, Venus or Jupiter -

From your lips to the basketball gods ears. I’d be over the moon 🌙 if we won every remaining regular season game, but tonight is a tough task-on the road vs the best team in the conference (who beat us by 23 in our house). Hofstra coming off an L means it’s unlikely they’re going to overlook us. JFW is a scoring machine-I believe we “held” him to 25 last time, & Pemberton is pretty damn good too. But you play the game on the court, not on paper, so let’s see where things stand at 9pm tonight when the final seconds tick off the clock ⏰ -
It’s all semantics. What’s not debatable is that it was a terrible L, & it would have been terrible regardless of TOP, crowd size, & how we did the year prior.
-
Ah, right. I have tried to erase that from my memory. We lost 31-27. Not an ass beating, but a hugely disappointing L to what was thought to be an inferior opponent that would be a shakedown cruise for us, before playing UWV

Final CAA MBB Power Rankings (before CAA Tournament)

I stand corrected. They both did play in the CAA, even though they finished their college careers in the A-10 -
Wasn’t that our 1st post-T. West game?

As far as current CAA players in the NBA, should the 2 VCU guys even count? -

I like Pemberton more than Riller. Seems like Riller’s been around forever; I wonder if he’ll do a Canyon Barry and go the grad transfer route, especially with Brantley not being back -

Who’s the best junior in the conference? I do agree that if Knight stays they could finally make it to the NCAA’s next year. With their talent on offense, I have them as a sleeper in this year’s CAA Tournament -

As a TU fan, I hope he leaves 😆 Last couple of games, he’s been on a different level than the opposition...scoring 30+, with double digit boards. Granted, the competition isn’t the best, but I would think there might be an NBA team willing to spend a late 1st round or 2nd round pick on a guy with his size and shooting touch. It would be nice next year if he were gone, along with Brantley & Cacok, who I think are both seniors. Not much question they are the 3 best bigs in the conference -

So, I have a question for the WM sports blog folks, if any of them read this...what are the chances Nathan Knight turns pro after this season? I’m not sure what else he has to prove at this level, & he risks injury if he comes back next season. You can’t teach size, & he also has a nice offensive repertoire to go with his size. I would love to see him go up against MD’s Bruno Fernando, but the 2 teams didn’t play each other this season. -
Ok. I mistakenly listed UF as 2018 in my post, when obviously that’s 2019.
-
So, Florida is 2018 WVU is 2022 What year is San Diego State, 2020 or 2021? Can’t wait to go on that trip Also, don’t we have MD one of these years?
-
Like having another freshman next year. Would have loved to have seen if his game would have progressed during conference play, but now he gets a do-over. Risk is that if he turns out to be a gem, he could do the grad transfer thing on the back end, but let’s cross that bridge if/when we get to it.
-
We got no help today from Hofstra & Delaware, who respectively lost to UNCW & JMU, both of whom are right on our heels in the race to avoid the tournament play-in games
-
I think PS should yank Caliguiran’s scholarship for getting schooled by their walk-on😆. But he did partially redeem himself with the blocked shot😆. We really should have gotten Caliguiran a shot at the end of the game. btw, speaking of shots, Tunstall drained another 3 today. I believe he’s perfect (2-2) on the season. Obviously a small sample size, but I really would like him to look for his jump shot more often

It’s going to come down to those home games, as we’re not beating Hofstra on the road, & unlikely we’ll beat NE on the road. That would mean we’d have to beat W&M & Elon at home to finish 8-10 in conference. Drexel finishes with Delaware, Hofstra & NE, so good chance they lose all 3, to finish 6-12 Elon & W&M play tonight. Not sure who I want to win, like that matters anyway. JMU, Elon & UNCW all only have 4 conference W’s. JMU still has to play Delaware, NE & Hofstra, amongst others, so it wouldn’t appear they’ll climb out of the bottom 4 Elon has W&M, UNCW, C of C, JMU & us. If they beat W&M tonight, they actually have a chance to climb out of the bottom 4 UNCW has Hofstra, Elon, W&M & C of C, so there chances of clawing out of the bottom 4 don’t seem great. And I will gladly put up more posts about our shortcomings on O if it results in 90+ point efforts like today!!!😆
-
If things continue as they are, UNCW, JMU & Elon will be 3 of the 4 teams in the play-in. That would mean the 4th team is going to be Drexel, W&M or us.
-
Granted it was Drexel, but our 1st half was a thing of beauty on both ends. I care not that Drexel outscored us by 12 in the 2nd half-a desperate team, down by 27 at the half, is going to make a run. I suppose there’s also a natural tendency for a team up by 27 to get a bit complacent. Besides, we win by 20+ if their scrub walk-on doesn’t drain 2 3’s in garbage time. This was the #20 that PS was hoping for when he transferred in. 17 points & 10 boards. Howard had a career game with 26-when he’s on, he can be a productive scorer. What can you say about Fobbs? Personally, I think he’s better than ZM was last year-he’s a better foul shooter, better rebounder, scoring is about equal, and on the intangible side, my sense is he’s a better teammate. Betrand , Dottin & Solomon U also had their moments today. W was all the more impressive, given that we basically played with a 2-man bench, with McNeil & Thomas out. Drayton played a bit, so at least that allowed some other guys to get a little breather. Thought the crowd, by our standards, was good today as well. Line of the day on the postgame show was Skerry’s comment that they must have gotten a couple of the refs from today’s game out of the witness protection program. I wonder if the CAA can fine a coach for comments like that? Though he was right. Some of the calls today were horrid.
